Ulrich hardly realized the Hariyama was waiting, or really payed it any mind at all. It was only when his cohort pointed the oddity out that he even noticed the other giant wasn't spacing out. When he did finally see the traces of civilization (with more help from their walking arsenal than he would admit or acknowledge) it wasn't without a moment of appreciation.
But Ulrich had just left from something arguable much more impressive than a rudimentary assembly of trees. It was fascinating, but not overwhelming. So, after that moment was up, he replied, "Yes, impressive. Maybe one of your friends can give us all a tour. After we reconvene with our f-... With the Dunsparce."

"Oh yes! Little sparce friend!" Hughshow replied, closing his eyes and imagining Threevan's adorably small face in his mind. So throwable! So huggable! Both Evan and the little one! Hugh felt a momentary pang of disgust. Wait. Hug? Evan? No! That would never do. He would certainly shatter him. And men do not give hugs! They give manly handshakes! Bone-breaking handshakes! The kind that shatter normal human hands! True power! True friendship! True hand clasping!
Oh! He was letting himself get carried away again. He turned back to Ulrich and grinned. "Do you think we should go look for him? I can't imagine that the little one has gotten himself into too much trouble. He's too small and squishy to be considered a threat!"

"G-G-Get him!" The female rockruff stammers out, but trails along behind her siblings howling and shivering a little. It's clear she's trying to work herself up for a fight but her heart isn't as in it as it could've been after the glare from Three. Clearly none can meet those eyes and ever be the same again. Her two siblings contentedly bound after the Dunsparce, lobbing stones at it by tossing their little manes about. "Don't you know how this works Mister? This is how you grow big and strong in the wild!" "Yeah! How could you get so fat and not know that?" They giggle, and continue to close the distance. (All Three Rockruff are now at 3m from Three. Rockruff 1 is paralyzed and simply follows. Rockruff's 2 and 3 use Rock Throw for 32 and 35 Rock Physical respectively.)
"The safest place you'll find in this place, it's not without it's own troubles of course." Kiai commented during a break in Hugh and Ulrich's conversation. "A few selfless Pokemon make them possible, as a place where predator and prey may come together on even grounds. They've been known to dissolve when food becomes scarce, but we are much blessed." The Hariyama thumped his belly with a big hand. "Testament to the strength, beauty, and intelligence of our grand people." He grunted.
"A Dunsparce you say? I saw a winged serpent going into one of the barrows in the screefield a day or two ago, can't say I saw it venture out since then though. Outside of the borders of the sanctuary the hunt begins, if your friend was strong, he will be fine."

"Excuse me if I only eat plants," he retorts. "And I'm not fat. I'm well-proportioned. There's a difference..." Anything further that he might want to say is cut off, as the rocks slam into him. Ow, ow ow... That really hurts, and it triggers within him some instincts that he hadn't realized. It wasn't really obvious on Gol, since there wasn't really the opportunity... but what this body did best was dig... And, with that, he acquiesces to the instincts of the body, and retreats momentarily underground, to clear his head. Evan switches his Tag to one of the non-Paralyzed Rockruff, and uses Dig, to nyoom 25m underground.

Oh, right. Hugh- Gunshow had made some friends. As creatures with actual physical needs, or measurable ones, anyways, safety no doubt became quite a concern... Mmm, well, such data would surely be very well received back on Gol. So it was good that the Gunshow had befriended such a powerful local, very good indeed.
First, though, came their errant cohort. 'If he was strong...' The vessels were somewhat too valuable to let that one test his mettle. So to Kiai, he asked, "That sounds like him; I presume those wings were completely useless?"
Then to Hugh the Yamask rotated, "If it is, then we should start there, yes. Better to explore your friend's sanctuary with the 'little one'." Never mind that the Dunsparce' body was significantly larger than his own, Hugh would know what he meant. Probably. "While its true he might pose a serious threat to a mirror, or perhaps a glossy plant, I don't imagine he would handle himself particularly well if trouble sought him out."
Whether he had confidence in Threevan's survival instincts or not, Ulrich was in no particular rush... Nor did he know where the barrows were, or where the sanctuary ended...

"I like it here." Gunshow comments, smiling at Kiai. "It is a place where one can become strong in safety. Protection when necessary, but the chance to excel is ever present. Is that not what any mon might want?"
Then, he turned his gaze back to the Yamask and- Oh? Goodness! Ulrich was right! Threesparce wouldn't stand a chance if he were to get into any kind of serious trouble! Possibly even minor trouble! The Hughshow slapped his hands together forcefully and smiled. "You are right! We should find him, just in case. I wouldn't want him being hurt due to my neglect!"
Saying this, the Hughshow turned to his two othercompanions whom he had been neglecting and smiled. "I shall see you both another time! I must go hunt down snake friend with ghost friend. Then we shall train! Become strong! You become strong too! Then, we'll push the metal drop box around for more training!"
Saying this, the Hughshow smiled and tore off into a random direction. Sometimes that's just how you find the things you want. You just have to go!

"Call it whatever you want Mister, you look delicious!" The three pups viciously dive onto the Dunsparce, biting at it's wings, tail, and face with excited yaps and barks in between the gnashings of teeth and playful growls. Nothing about this is pleasant or nice, they're aiming for a kill but are too weak as individuals to secure it quickly.
(Bite x3, 3 Flinches, Three's Init is now 0, 27, 27, 31 Dark Physical)
As three escapes into the soil there's a surprised outcry from above, the serpent bursting through earth and stone downward as though it were water.
Kiai watched Gunshow depart down the mountain with all due bluster and excitement, his companions dispersing save the Yamask. With a chuckle and a laugh, he sat heavily. "To be young again!" He jubilated, before slowly turning his attention to the ghost. "You are a long way from home, dead one. Does your keeper know?" There was a sadness about his tone.

That was a lot of pain. It all hurt. So, escaping it into the warm embraces of the earth is comforting. There's still panic in his brain, but, it's not as much. After taking a moment to focus and breathe, he realises that, even if he wanted to go, he has no idea which way is 'home', or food, or anything. At the very least, he needs to make another foray to the surface. Considering his tail... it might as well be right under them. Maybe then they'll back off if that happens. Commander's Voice to use Focussed Training as a Swift. Evan uses Dig, spending an AP. 22/18 vs AC 2 (22 vs Tagged Rockruff, 18 against the others) for 37 Physical Ground damage. Evan gains 2 Momentum, and a tick of temp HP.
Momentum: 6 (Remember, this does give him +3 Evasion [so, 6] against that particular foe, and, since a turn's passed, he's no longer Vulnerable.)

The Hughshow smiles as he barrels down the cliff side with reckless abandonment, using all the beautiful running to let the air run through his hair combs. "What a wonderful world this is!" He remarks to no one in particular.
Truly, the green, vibrancy surrounding was nothing like he had seen before. Hugh in particular, couldn't even identify such beauty. Were there words for such things? Tree was it? There were only synthetic trees on the ship and strange, sick little berry things! Perhaps one of these trees could be containing recipe for delicious protein slop? No, that would be silly. But maybe if he punched a tree hard enough, something would come out. Or maybe if he head butted one... Such a tantalizing prospect! Perhaps if he lowered his head and-
No Hughshow! Now is not the time to use your head! Little Three was out there somewhere, cold and alone! The Hughshow resolves himself. First he will find the little one! Then he will grapple him, into a hug! Then he will say, loudly, manfully, so that all may hear, "The professor says HELLO!"

For such a heavy-set figure, that Machoke was quite fast... Well, seeing as it had been his idea in the first place, he had an obligation to at least rein that one in. So, with all the enthusiasm and energy Hugh had left behind, Ulrich-
Wait, what did the fat one say?
Slowly pivoting, giving a precious few moments to think, Ulrich was conflicted. Writing him off would be trivial, but this Hariyama seemed to know what he was talking about, and more importantly, had the faculties to explain himself... But so would this vessel. Plowing past far too many unknowns on his haphazard plan, Ulrich answered, "I would assume so, I haven't seen my keeper in over five years; they would be most irresponsible to have not noticed."
He could catch up with Hugh in a moment... More or less. It was practically his responsibility to capitalize on this opportunity as best he could. Without, of course, revealing his own ignorance...

Many Pokemon are capable of incredible speeds while digging through solid earth and stone, Three being no exception. Bursting free of the surface, a plume of dirt and stone rocketed skyward, catching all three of the aggressive pups in the fount. Their small bodies sprawled about the little passageway, only the eldest female clinging to consciousness after the onslaught. "Guess you get to eat us instead..." She growled weakly, an eye shut as she struggles to gain footing once more.
A sheer drop rushed up to meet Gunshow as he vaulted over rise and rock, the very mountain giving way with the thunderous berth of his steps! It would not have snuck up on him so, had an explosion not issued forth at the edge of the vision and distracted him! Curse this mountain and it's sneaky tricks, it must be punished into submission, for he is HUGH!
(Acrobatics, Athletics, or a Move with Damage please, at your option.)
Kiai turned slowly towards the Yamask, the fighting type's ever fierce expression filled with a gauging curiosity. There was a break in the conversation, a stillness in the air broken only by the soft passing of the wind. His eyes flickered towards the metal pod that only moments before he had helped the Machoke wrest from gravity and the crushing strength of the mountain itself. They held there, then returned to the ghost. "Be wary of your own kind friend. I have not heard tale of Ghost-Types wandering too far or too long from a Distortion, without the Lord of the Dead seeking them."
(Guile please)

"Why would I do that?" Evan asks, with confusion. "If I ate meat, I wouldn't be in this situation in the first place. I was going to get some berries. I didn't want to hurt any of you." He flutters his wings as he stretches, feeling much better now that he isn't being nibbled on and has time to rest. "If you'd like," he offers, "I can try and bring you back some berries, if you'll eat those. I'd just appreciate if you dropped the whole 'trying to eat me' thing, okay?"Evan uses Roost. Conveniently that brings him up to exactly his injured Max HP. Charm: 24

Bwahahaaha! Tricksy mountain! Trying to sneak upon him will it? Well, Hughshow was wise! Wiser than mountain! Stronger than mountain! Hughshow put his hands to his belt and- WAIT. Nope! Not doing that. The great and mighty Gunshow quickly realizes the folly of such a ridiculous action as unleashing it's full power to try to punish the mountain. Even if he could toss it, it certainly wouldn't be helpful to himself or anyone else living on it! For now, he ducked low to the ground to thrust his hands into the earth. Enough running! Hughshow was not made to fly! Athletics Roll to stop the madness! 19!

Not much registering Kiai's pensive silence, except perhaps as an annoyance and a waste of time, Ulrich parroted when the big one finally spoke, "My own kind..." and brushed aside rather hurriedly any memories he might possess of the Yamask, the ghost's kind. Which left the confusion as to the rest of Kiai's message in its wake. 'Lord of the dead'? Given the ghost's apparent lack of need for the basic requirements of life, having a top predator seemed unlikely. Hmm, something else to tell Hugh to ask about when they returned. Now, one thing he, Ulrich, could inquire without arousing suspicion had presented itself. "Right, noted. Since returning, I haven't met many of my kin... Fortunately, I suppose. But more importantly, I'm not familiar with this area. Nor, I suspect, was my gung ho associate. Where might I find the nearest Distortion?" Come to think of it, that wasn't the only location they needed... "And you mentioned some barrows. Did he actually leave for them, or has he just run off on some foolish errand, again?" Guile (AP spent) 10

The female Rockruff tilted her head to one side, gingerly getting to her feet and regarded Three with more confusion then suspicion or hunger now. "That's not how it works though... you fight and win... you kill and eat to grow stronger. Survival of the fittest in the wilds! The best live on, and the weak are weeded out..." She plops down on her behind, clearly flabbergasted with all of this, then added in a meek voice. "Some berries would be nice."
It was a simple enough feat, even without removing the belt for one as great as the Gunshow! The machoke's muscles rippled and bulged, plunging his fist through stone as easily as another Pokemon might water with a mighty but thunderous crack. The mountain roared in pain with the strike! It writhed at the edge of the cliff as Hugh got his footing, a towering stone serpent ripping itself free of the earth, a proud horn set above it's eyes. It glowered down at the would be climber.
"Distortions come and go with time, most frequently in places where there has been much death. You will find the nearest outside of this valley. Death finds it's way to us only in the day to day huntings, blessedly. I had last heard word of one to the west, where a desert lay. As to your big friend." And at this Kiai chuckled. "He took the path to circle the top of the mount, the barrows themselves are that way." He gestured down the face of the mountain.

"Well, I don't have to eat you to live," Evan says, gently, "So, why would I do it?" He gives as much of a smile as he can manage in this body. "And if you're not trying to eat me, I have no reason to fight. Those who work together are stronger than the sum of their parts. That's why you hunt in packs, right? And the same can be said for other things, too."
He turns to head towards where Sheila had indicated the berries would be before glancing back, "Oh, by the way, do you have a name that I can call you?"

"Ohohoho! You're a big one!" Exclaims the Hughshow as he draws himself up from the earth. And goodness indeed! Hugh had never known that a Pokémon could get so large and powerful! Truly, this one was a terrifying sight. Never could he have dreamed such magnificent creatures could be living down here!
However, it was he who trespassed against it, and not the other way around. Honor dictates reparation! The Gunshow in the Hugh crossed his hand across his chest in a consolatory manner and smiled. "My apologies friend, if I have harmed you with my monliness! I did not mean to harm you, but rather stop myself in my careless run towards the cliff."
Wait. Big, long. Skinny? Perhaps this one was a serpent? No! Certainly not. Serpents were all small, fat and pudgy like little Three! How silly! This one probably didn't have a clue where the nest was. Besides, the creature looked quite cross. Hohoho! Perhaps a good old fashioned fight was about to brew...

While by no means an expert on Pokemon biological needs, five years spent monitoring the diets of their specimens led the researcher to conclude that these Distortions took a rather steep price. Well, that, or the more boring option that this ecosystem simply couldn't reasonable cause one. It would be worth looking into later... Somehow.
Equally disappointing but no less expected, it seemed Hugh had gotten ahead of himself. Would he climb all the way to the summit? The idea that his associate might reach Architect's grand creation without him there was an unpleasant one... But he'd probably set himself right soon enough. More importantly, he had to confirm and convene with the last of their pilots...
And on that note, Ulrich informed his massive conversation partner: "I see. Well, I can't say I'm surprised. I will have to excuse myself now, though. Its rather important that we find our missing member, preferably before he joins the day-to-day hunted." Deeming his explanation suitable, the Yamask began the slow drift down the mountain.

The little would-be predator genuinely seemed abashed at Three's breakdown of the situation, but then this was a rattling experience for the both of them. "I'm Mica, my brothers are Shale and Jasper." She slowly turns, and starts tugging her brothers into more comfortable positions using her teeth, occasionally casting glances over her shoulder as though she isn't certain she can trust you just yet. "You're really strange, but thank you. I'll try to talk to Mom when she wakes up tonight, hopefully she isn't too mad..."
"You who test your strength against the stones!" It slurrs in a dialect that is difficult but not impossible for Gunshow to make out, hard sounds where there shouldn't be, and a certain timbre to the message as a whole. "Offers only words it does!" This was punctuated by a bellow that rolled across the mountainside and into the valley below like thunder.
Ulrich is treated to wide eyed stares, and more then once something bigger then he makes for cover on his approach. Without concern for long falls, or having to pick his way along a path the descent is surprisingly quick and smooth. On an outcropping, slowly coming into view in the distance, is a round, flat looking blob of orange with some blue markings. Subtle movements would indicate he may be doing something, but the brown on gray of the rest of the landscape doesn't lend itself well to discerning -what-.

"Mica," Evan repeats, nodding. "That's a nice name. You can call me," he pauses. What should he go by here? Not Evan. And Three was the appellation they'd given to the Dunsparce up there. It probably wasn't his real name. "Uh, anything you want, really," he finishes, before adding, with a joking tone, "Barring something like 'dinner', of course."
He begins to head towards the direction where Sheila had said the berries would be, before turning back. "Make sure to stay safe, okay, Mica? I'll try and be back as soon as I can. And, if I don't manage to make it back for some reason, I hope this doesn't cause you too much trouble with your mom..."
With that, he actually does set off, in search of the berries. He feels a little pang of emotion as he leaves. Despite only knowing them for a little bit - and the whole 'eating him' thing - those Pokémon were more honest and open (and open minded) than most of the people that he'd ever encountered. Given Mica and Rosebud, he wonders if most of the Pokémon here are like that...
