Amber steps out after Kat, cheerfully leading the way with quick, careful glances backwards--both at the tiny girl following her, and at the darker shape lurking in the vents. She murmers soft reassurances to the spidergirl as she steps out and draws close, squeezing her hand reassuringly where they're clasped. "This is Christine," She says, taking a slow, careful step towards the medic if the spider will let her. "She's a healer. I...don't know who this is, but I think we found her?"
She stares at the new girl curiously, then goes around and does a quick introduction for the rest of the people...and then, thoughtfully, introduces the pokemon as she's able to name them, going slowly.
"Do you have a name?" She'll finally ask, rubbing her thumb in calming circles on the back of the girl's hand.

The spider-girl chitters for a moment at Amber's question, before managing a word through her semi-hidden chelicerae. " Petaran?" ƿǫǠǣǰƞǟǬǢƞljǟDzƞǠǭDzǦƞǦǣǟǰƞDZǭǫǣDzǦǧǬǥƞǧǬƞDzǦǣƞǴǣǬDzDZƪƞǧDzƞDZǣǣǫDZƞDzǭƞǠǣƞǫǭǴǧǬǥƞǭǤǤƞǤdzǰDzǦǣǰƞǟǵǟǷƬƞƞǗǭdzƞDzǦǧǬǩƞǧDzƞǫǧǥǦDzƞǠǣƞƠǎǣDzǟǰǟǬƥDZƠƞǫǭDzǦǣǰƞǭǰƞǮǟǰǣǬDzǟǪƞǤǧǥdzǰǣƽé ƋơƴŠƹƯƵŠơƬƳƯŠƨƥơƲŠƷƨơƴŠƳƯƵƮƤƳŠƬƩƫƥŠơŠƳơƴƩƳƦƩƥƤŠƣƨƵƣƫƬƥŠơƳŠƴƨƥŠƬơƲƧƥƲŠƭƯƮŠƹƯƵŧƤŠƨƥơƲƤŠƭƯƶƥƳŠƦƵƲƴƨƥƲŠơƷơƹŮØ The rescued woman manages to sit up slightly now with Christine's help. "My name is Jo- uh, Joyce. And no, I don't live down here. I was... um I was following a trail left by some old holotapes. I'd heard that there might be a valuable cache in the area, and was searching for it!" She nods brightly, before groaning slightly and clutching at her head. "Ugh... the last thing I remember clearly was the elevator ride down, and that video talking about taking some deep calming breaths. After that it's a blur. I remember screeching, hands... I think? Maybe claws? There was some kind of slurping sound too, possibly the sounds of fighting. Lots of movement and I think I was being pulled in a few different directions at some points. Then I felt pressure around me, and I remember an awful taste before I blacked out fully once more." At Medical Bay 1, Cecil's light touch has once again given him access to hidden secrets. The door's lock disengages with a light screech and some flakes of rust trickle from the keyhole. Inside though, is... unpleasent, to say the least. This seems less a medical bay and more a mad scientist's lab. There is a large table with the desiccated remnants of a humanoid form strapped down to it. A tray of medical tools lies on a rolling cart, still pristine within their plastic wrappings. It seems whatever was going to happen here was forestalled by the breakout. Several packets of chemicals and IV bags are also set up. The chemicals look intact for the most part, though some of the IV bags have dried out. There are also a few cupboards set into the floor and ceiling that may hold potential goodies. The poor figure on the table appears to have been female, the faded hair on the scalp a bright green with some kind of crystalline protrusion from her sternum that glints a dull ruby red in the light of the Skrubbing. The arms and legs are unnaturally thin and fragile-looking, especially in contrast to the heavy restraints that are on them. A vicious-looking metal band circles the head as well, with two points protruding from it and resting on the temples of the corpse.

Christine wonders who Amber's introducing her to, and flinches slightly upon the arachnoidish form in front of her. Not what she had been expecting. But, since it seems like it hasn't done anything to Amber - yet - she forces herself to relax - or at least try to appear that way - and say, "Uh, hello." before turning back to her patient. It doesn't feel good to turn her back on the creature, and she half expects to feel something stabbing her in the back at any moment.
Listening to Joyce's story, Christine nods, though she winces about assuming that the other was another Vault-dweller. That was stupid, and probably gave away more than was wise. "I remember Amber doing something to the elevator before we came down, and the logs mentioned the passengers came down asleep." She thinks. "Well, so far we've encountered bats, including an ultrasonic one, so that might be the source of the screeching. I don't know about anything else, though. Probably... things like Amber's... friend, there, ended up winning, since we found you here. There's something missing from this puzzle, though." She's really just musing aloud at this point. "It seemed like you'd taken some capsules that would have medicine in them. If those were administered down here... that would mean that there's something with both the ability and the knowledge to use those capsules."
She frowns, briefly. "Well, if you can't remember any more, that's probably going to remain unanswered for now." After a moment's thought, though, she continues, "I'd almost think that's for the better, though. Since I'd rather just find the parts we need, fix the power, and get out of here as quickly as possible." She gives another smile. "But, don't worry, I'm going to make sure you get out, too. Even if that means having to slow down a bit."
Something occurs to her. "Hold on, to get in here, you must have had to have a card, or something, right? Where did you find it? Because we just found ours right above." And I doubt that they would have scattered those things far and wide... so I wonder if all the Vaults have the same card system? And if they do... well, that means home just got a lot less secure.

Cecil makes his way into the room slowly, being mindful of the ceiling. The vents seemed to be everywhere in this place, and a favored ambush point of whatever hunted and lurked this underground. As Hilow's light bathes the corpse he takes a long, steadying drag on his smoke and lets the twin streams billow out of his nostrils. "Christ, what a waste. You just don't do that to a woman. She was probably a looker too, before she was left to starve." He mumbles quietly to no one in particular.
Standing over the body, he curiously gives that odd, vibrant red shard a prod. The fuck even drives people to do something like this to their own kind? I get wanting to get ahead in a war, but the war had already ended when the vaults filled up. There was a twist of sadness in his gut, but the greaser forced himself back to the here and now and the tasks at hand. He'd never been the sentimental type, so he told himself, and she was long dead. Better to focus on the living and what could be done. Taking his time, he began to comb the room for anything that might be of use.

"Petaran," Amber says, trying the word out. She mutters it a few times, then nods. "I like it!" She says cheerfully, smiling widely at the pokemon girl. She only glances at the vent once, a quick flick of the eyes. She hopes that Peta's mother figure, or what she's assuming that creature was, is as friendly as she is. Especially with Cecil...being...missing.
She turns to Kat. "Was the tunnel okay? I could go check it out now," She says, then glances at Peta. "You can come with if you want, Petaran."

"Hold up chicka, they weren't quite as dandy as I'd like 'em to be for you to crawl through there alone. Roz got a whiff of somethin' he didn't like, but couldn't see it-- didn't seem to wanna proceed. If you're determined I ain't gonna stop ya, but keep that in mind-- I'd rather us here this here lady's opinions and consult with the crew before you scurry into that disaster beyond the pile." She glances at the woman--'Joyce'--as she says it, then once again takes tally of her companions. "Cec?" she calls out, pacing past Joyce et al and veering for the now-open first medical bay. She stopped at the doorway, relieved to see him there, which immediately turned to disgust at the sight of the disfigured woman on the table. "Ugh," she said, letting her arms drop to her side. "And I thought the chick in the cocoon was a bad omen. Was comin' to grab you to talk about Amber going into the utility area, but uh. Hmm."Frowning all the way, she sidles up alongside him and stares the body over, wondering what could have been going on here... t6y9lq5|4d6+2 Survival to determine... whatever she possibly can about this situation? "This place is a fuckin' slaughterhouse Kat." Cecil replied quietly. "I was a rotten little shit back home and I loved it, but this..." He gestures to the body. "I don't even got the words for this. It makes me really want to body the person responsible. The group heading into utilities should be small. Vents or through that tunnel, you can only really have one person defending each direction. Three's ideal cause Amber is the only way we get out of here, gotta keep her from harm." Turning towards Kat slowly, that bright red stone at the edge of his vision had begun to roll from the body, and the greaser lunged for it.

"I like Cecil's idea, personally. A small group would be best, that way no one has to worry about tripping over one another if things go sour. That and I'd feel at least a little bit better knowing that our only way out of here is secure."
Bunnie nods her head towards the Joyce.
"Plus she isn't exactly in the best shape. Running her around this vault probably wouldn't be good. At least for a little bit."

Kat rubs her cheek, and calls back, "Ain't so much a 'small group' thing if we're talkin' humans, though. I tried t'make that pile budge, but it's sat there for too long. Out of us, only Amber's gonna make it through, and even then it might be a squeeze... and as willin' as I am to put my mon under her orders to send 'em with her, that's not a whole lot of coord'nated help on that side of the pile should things fuck up real bad, real fast."
Then, considering what she'd just said and all it implied, she groaned. "Augh. But. What choice d'we have, I s'pose? Damnit. I wanna get outta here."

Joyce frowns slightly in confusion as she listens to Christine, eyes narrowing slightly when the other girl mentions "parts" that they needed, before gasping in shock when the card is mentioned. She begins to pat herself down anxiously. "Nononononono, I can't have lost it! The Mothers will be furious! I can't have failed already!" She seems to be getting very upset, before whirling towards Christine. "How did you know I had an access card?! Where is it?!" When Bunnie speaks up, she finally sees the star-stamped access card in the young woman's hands. Taking a deep breathe, she manages to calm herself. "Please, give that back. I need it, and it's... it's something of a family heirloom." When Amber mentions a tunnel, the Petaran's head tilts in confusion, until she sees the direction that Amber is indicating, towards the collapsed tunnel. The spider-girl immediately shakes her head violently, chittering in fear and gripping Amber about the waist as if to stop her from moving. In the med bay, Kat's examination of the body determines that this poor soul has likely been here for the better part of two centuries. This med bay doesn't have the same size vent access as the others, so it looks like no predators were able to get at the body to consume it, and in the relatively dry air it had desiccated and mummified. Probably starved to death, there's no indication of any type of injection or other foul play, aside from the freaky headband that's resting on its skull. Cecil, seeing the crystal beginning to totter from its apparently precarious perch, lunges forward, managing to snatch it out of the air before it can hit the ground or the metal table. It's warm in his hands, strangely so. ȏȶȳȫȰȵȮǧȰȻǧȺȬȬȴȺǧȻȶǧȮȰȽȬǧȨǧȭȬȬȳȰȵȮǧȶȭǵǵǵǧȹȬȳȰȬȭȆǧǧȐȻȺǧȭȨȰȵȻǧȩȼȻǧȻȯȬȹȬǮȺǧȨǧȫȬȭȰȵȰȻȬǧȬȴȶȻȰȶȵǧȪȶȴȰȵȮǧȶȭȭǧȻȯȬǧȪȹɀȺȻȨȳǵǭȵȩȺȷȂǧȊȬȪȰȳǧȯȬȨȹȺǧȨǧȻȰȵɀǧȽȶȰȪȬdzǧȩȨȹȬȳɀǧȨǧȾȯȰȺȷȬȹǧȶȭǧȨȵǧȬȪȯȶǵǭȵȩȺȷȂǧǩțȯȨȵȲǧȻȯȬǧȔȨȲȬȹǵǵǵǩǧȩȬȭȶȹȬǧȰȻǧȭȨȫȬȺǵȃȩȹȅè As Cecil and Kat examine the area, they find a number of medicinal bottles, many of them rendered to dust by time, but also some sealed ones that are probably still viable. Including some sealed ampules of a cool blue liquid. The small box marks them as "Anti-viral agent MK I". Kat and Cecil together found: 2 Super Potions 330 Medical Scrap 10 doses of Anti-Viral agent (must be analyzed by Medicine check to determine what it does) Sealed medical instruments (worth 500 Poke) Strange Crystal

"Joyce, please... try and calm down, take a deep breath," Christine says, "Don't try and push yourself too much. You've been through a lot, recently." She's a little taken aback at the accusations. "I knew you had to have a card, because this place was sealed. We needed one to get in, too. I don't have any idea where yours is." When the girl turns to Bunnie, Christine asks. "Oh. Where'd you find that, Bunnie?" She turns back to Joyce, asking "Did you have anything else? Because, if, so, wherever she found that would probably be a good place to look."
"So, who are the Mothers?" she asks, intrigued. "And what are you looking for? Since we need to head towards Utilities anyways, we might be able to help you find what you're looking for, if it'd be around there. Probably better than you wandering off alone, especially while you're recovering." Something occurs to her. "Did you come in here alone?"

Kat doesn't say much more as they gather up the goods; she examines the "anti-viral" stuff, but knows it would be better off being studied by Christine... when they were in a safer location, perhaps. Nodding to Cecil--and giving that shard a confused look--she pockets the super potions and anti-virals, making a note to show them to the good doc as soon as they had proper breathing time.
Emerging back into the main room, she takes note of the pink-haired lady's agitated state. "We ain't here to steal from or jeopardize ya, lady, calm it. We're all gonna get outta here together. Somehow. Any chance you lot wanna watch this holotape I found yet? It might have somethin' of note on it, and the more help we can get to figure out what went on here and what that means for us, the better."

Cecil holds the bright red crystal in his hand for a moment, expression surprised then giving way to sadness as he examines it, gathering up the medical tools, the surgical instruments along with bits of bandages and a package of salve. "I think I got a better idea Kitty-Kat. Won't have to be any crawling in tight spaces Roz doesn't care for, might take a bit longer. I've got a few smokes left if you need one to calm your nerves. Ain't old world tobacco like the first one we shared, but it's something." The greaser offered, again considering the body on the table. Shaking his head, he works his thumbs over the clamps holding the wicked looking headband in place and removes it. "Most freedom I can give her now I guess... Christ."
Leaving the first medbay, the greaser makes his way back to the others and clears his throat in the doorway. "Alright, so here's how it's going to be. I got a moment to think in the quiet, and it helped a bit. I know we're all a bit on edge because the power's out, but we saved a life today and I ain't about to squander that. Sending everyone that can fit through that hole into utilities ain't smart, and I'm not going to be the fuckup this go. Heading there through the vents we'll be lost for hours, even days. Amber knows I'm right, she practically lived in the ones back home."
Cecil paused briefly to flick his cigarette onto the floor and snuff it out with the toe of his boot. "There'll be maps of all the major corridors, labs, vents, you name it. If any of it survived, it'll be in the barracks or the armory. I know backtracking means we gotta muck through more bodies, and more weirdness, but once we've got a map, we can navigate the vents and get the power back on. It'll make scavenging this place a hell of a lot safer, and we can hunt for a water purifier chip or food processor thing in the mess. You know, why we came down here in the first place."
As an afterthought he adds. "Yeah, sorry Kat, go ahead and fire it up."

"Alternatively," Christine says, after listening to Cecil, "Rather than going all the way across the facility, we could check out Medical while we're here. At the very least, it might give us supplies, or let us know what we might be up against. Who knows, there might be another way through to Utilities in there. I highly doubt that they've only left a single corridor to that place... right?"

"I found this card in the room you were looking in before helping Cecil a bit ago. It was the only obvious thing I saw that could be helpful, but there wasn't a whole lot of light, so I might have missed something."
Bunnie considers giving the card to Joyce, but thinks better of it. She files Joyce's reference to something called "The Mothers" away in the back of her mind though.
"I'd rather hold on to it, for the time being. Not to say I don't trust you, but I'd rather someone I know hold on to it in case things go to hell. Better safe than sorry, you know? I'm incredibly interested in Kat's holotape though."

Amber blinks down at the spider girl before nodding. "Um...on second thought...maybe going off on my own isn't the best idea..." She says, somewhat sheepishly. She listens as Cecil reappears, tilting her head curiously and adding only, "I wouldn't suggest going through the vents anyway," in a soft, somewhat fond undertone punctuated by her grinning at Petaran.
"I'd vote we look through medical--maybe some of us can watch the holotape while you escort Christine around Medical, Cecil?" She says, bowing to Kat's wisdom. She'd barely noticed the tape, in all the confusion. "But Christine is right--there's going to be other routes to utilities. There have to be, fail safes for tunnel collapse are built into vault floor plans."
Still, as she waits for their defacto group leaders to settle, she peers at Cecil in pleased surprise--she hadn't known the older man had known she'd even existed, prior to their outing, let alone known her well enough to know her habit of lurking the vents between work shifts.

Joyce looks incensed by Bunnie's refusal to give up the card, but manages to regain her composure. However everything else Christine has said finally catches up to her, and she begins frantically patting herself down (grimacing at the occasional squelching noise) before letting out a sigh of relief and pulling out a... you all are pretty sure it's a pokeball, but it's of a type you've never seen before, and looks like it's been kludged together from a number of pieces, with the shell sporting numerous seams and spot welds. When Christine asks about "the Mothers" though, she freezes up, cursing to herself. "The Mothers are... they're the ones in charge in my home. And um, no, I didn't exactly come in here alone." She brandishes the pokeball, but doesn't open it. "As for what I'm looking for..." she trails off. "Look, I'm really grateful for the rescue, but I don't really know any of you. And not to sound ungrateful, but I'd like to have a little time to make sure this isn't some elaborate long con after you all saw me head down here. But, I'll come with you guys, and help if I can."
Seems that Joyce has some steel in her after all, now that she's had some time to process everything. "I guess listening to the holotape might help make some sense of what happened in here af- I mean yeah, let's listen to it."
Popping in the Holotape as everyone gathers around, Kat hits play. The voice that comes through is phlegmy and hoarse. It almost sounds like whoever's talking has a tongue that's too big for their mouth...
"Shitshitshitshit. Containment breached in multiple areas. The damn waste unit never got properly repaired, and we'd been stashing the byproducts in some spare storage rooms. The tape cuts as there's a wet series of coughs and the sound of something moist hitting the floor. "Thanks to Hopkins' bleeding heart the subjects that haven't been properly conditioned with the mini-unit are rampaging. I just hope I can get to subject F. She's my best ticket out of this hellhole, damn the anti-psychic regulations. Stashed some anti-virals in the exam room too. Might reverse the contamination, or at least put it on hold. Security is useless, been fucking more than training, out of shape and practice. They're getting massacred. There's a scraping sound, and a muttered curse.
"Damnit, the chitin's spreading. Need the antivirals fast. A new noise comes to the fore, sounding like wet, labored breathing underscored by a manic, inhuman giggling. "No. NO! DAMNIT LAURA NO! STAY! GET OUT OF HERE YOU CRAZY SLUT!" The giggling gets louder, and there's the sound of something wet rapidly slapping on the floor, before a lot of crashing. The last things the tape has on it is a weird humming that's quickly growing in pitch, whoever was recording the holotape shouting "no" frantically... and a single insane word in a sing-song voice. "Miiiiiiii-iiiiine!" The tape cuts off at the sound of some kind of blast going off and a cut-off pair of screams, one terrified, the other passionate.

"Okay," Christine nods as the unusual Pokéball is brandished, "but there's no other people who accompanied you, that we might want to keep an eye out for? That was more my worry."
As Joyce finishes speaking, she says, "Don't worry. I understand that you might not trust us, and I'm sorry if I went prying. I was just curious, and it's my natural tendency to talk with, and ask questions of, patients. I'm... not quite used to dealing with people who don't really know or trust me. So, if you don't want to tell me anything, that's fine. I'll try not to ask for anything more than you go volunteering, okay? Just, please, let me know if you start feeling worse. I have no idea what all they were doing down here, so I don't know if purging the detectable Pokérus solved all the problems."
Her worries are compounded after hearing the tape. Who knows if the rate of 'spreading' they were talking about was just due to high concentrations, prolonged exposure, or... something even worse. Hopefully, she'd not have to find out. "So, uh, where do you suppose that 'waste unit' might be?" Christine asks, a little nervously, after a moment of silence. "Any ideas, Amber? I'd like to avoid that, if possible, and, you're probably the best one to have any clue." She really doesn't have any more to say at the time, still mulling over the implications of the tape. None of them are good.

"After the people that raised you escaped?" Cecil finishes for Joyce. "Little more trust would be good if you aren't used to hiding things. Long cons require a known mark, and we had nothing to gain and everything to lose trying to bring you around." Cecil explained quietly while Kat fiddled with her VaultDex. "Cost a few thousand caps worth of purgative when we already had hands on the only thing we might've wanted from you, even if we don't know what it's for. I won't badger you about it, but relax. Can't watch someone's back if they don't trust you to, and ain't none of us getting out of here safe without trust."
Quieting as the audio began, Cecil was visibly sweating by the end of it. Utilities was not a good place, that was becoming more and more clear, he lit another cigarette with shaky hands despite the rationing behavior he'd taken to them lately and shook his head after checking his VaultDex. "It's a little past five, we're wasting time... The first room in the entryway to medical is the exam room he mentioned... we found the stashed antibiotics and a few other things we can go over later, as well as Subject F. Unless you're keen on seeing what it looks like to starve, probably leave it... I'll... go get the next room open. Come on you floating cabbage..."

Kat turned away from Joyce and rolled her eyes as the woman talked, choosing to tune most of what the lady was saying out in favour of figuring out the holotape. No doubt if there was something important buried in all that whining and secrecy, her companions would ferret it out-- that kinda thing wasn't her style unless there was a bit of pain involved.
When the holotape began to play, she wasn't sure what to make of it. The sounds were unfamiliar, and the information... not much better. The mention of the conditioning unit got her nerves on end, though, and she flashed a brief glance around at the others before the tape devolved into unintelligible noises and shouts of terror.
She was quiet for a few moments afterwards, and was glad when others spoke up first. "No idea. But Cecil's right. I can't tell day from night down here, but don't wanna be out and about wanderin' these wretched halls if somethin a bit more nocturnal is hangin about. Might be safer to find a good defensible room, clear it out, and get prepared for a long goddamn night." She pats one of her numerous bags of spikes as she speaks, reassured at least in part by her ability to set up a trap if needed.
