Jack turned to face Dave, feet a little more than shoulder width apart, Bolt perched on his shoulder. Jack dug his heels in as he sixed up Dave...and Hal. I can't depend on Bolt alone for this battle...Hal's tough, and that conversion could be a real problem...and he'd be expecting Bolt...alright...I'll just have to stick to my plan, like I practiced with Bolt and the others."Dave," Jack said loudly across the battlefield. "Let's have a good, fun match. Try and smile a little!," Jack said with a big, exaggerated smile as if to show him how. "Alright then, I choose you...Tye!," Jack said, tossing out a pokeball from his belt instead of sending out Bolt in a move he guessed...and hoped...might surprise a few people. The Mankey took up position in the center of the battlefield. Sending out Tye! Initiative 16, will be Initiative 20 at the top of the Round thanks to Agility Training.

"Oh, I can smile," Dave says, indeed having a small half-smile. "Just make sure that you can follow your own advice at the end." In the meantime, Dave sizes up his foe. Not the best. Especially not as a Normal Type. I can't let him land the first blow. While his opponent tosses his Pokémon front and center, Dave releases Hal off to his left. No sense in letting the monkey hit first... Releasing Hal to A2. Using Focused Training on Hal and Tagging the Mankey.

"You're really confident," Jack said very matter-of-factly. "Well, I guess if you're gonna go high, me and Tye will just have to go low, as in Low Kick!," Jack said excitedly.
"Alright Tye, just like we practiced this morning! Move in fast and Low Kick!," Jack said. The Mankey sped across the battlefield at full tilt, landing a powerful kick to Hal's lower body.

Well. That was... unexpected. It was faster than he'd thought. He tries not to let any of that show on his face, though. If he was lucky, he might be able to pull something out of this. It wasn't looking terribly good, though. But, nothing ventured... "Hal, Ghost again. We'll see how effective you are if you can't hit me."Focused training. Hal uses Conversion2 to change type to Ghost. Hal gains 1 Momentum.

Yes!"I was expecting that!," Jack said confidently. "Alright Tye, hold! Just like we planned!," he said. The Mankey appeared to brace itself as Jack looked on with anticipation. Jack issues Focused Training, Tye is delaying until after Hal this round.

Well, it looked like they had a plan, especially judging by the last battle. But, there wasn't much he could do at this point, besides strike. "Try and take it out, Hal. Psybeam." It was a good strike, but didn't seem to be enough. Dave uses Focused training. Hal uses Psybeam, hitting for 38 Psychic Damage. Hal gains 2 momentum.

Tye stood fast and weathered the attack, snorting at Hal as the last of the Psybeam's energies dissipated. Then the Mankey began to glow red and returned to his pokeball of his own accord.
"Alright, great work Tye! Bolt, it's your turn! You know what to do! Quick, get close and Thunder Shock!," Jack said, sending out Bolt. Bolt leapt forward, scurrying along the ground to get close and firing off a large bolt of electricity! It did a lot of damage...but not enough, as Hal was still barely hanging in there.
Alright, Jack thought to himself. I had thought that would be enough...but since Hal evolved, he got a lot tougher...but he's only barely hanging in there.
"Alright Bolt, be ready for whatever Hal tries to pull! Stay alert!," he said in a serious tone. This fight wasn't over just yet.

That's too close for comfort, Dave thinks, as Hal just barely holds on. But, as long as there was defiance, there was hope. "Alright, Hal. Same as before. Let's shut it down. Ground Conversion."Focused training, Ground Conversion, Momentum. The usual.
Momentum: 4

Just like I thought.
"Alright Bolt, get in close and finish the fight!," Jack said excitedly, especially since Hal seemed particularly vulnerable.
Bolt rushed forward, jumping into a headbutt against the Porygon, sparks jumping from his fur as they collided. Bolt landed on his feet, shaking his head, his fur returning to its normal appearance. Hal, however, was down for the count.
Jack waited, his heart racing, to see if the Porygon would get up...when it didn't, his face lit up. "Alright Bolt, we won!," he shouted triumphantly, running into the arena as Bolt ran back toward him and hugging the pokemon fiercely. "We did it! Great job!," he said, giving the Pichu a noogie and Bolt nuzzled against him. "And we couldn't have done it without Tye, too!," he said, releasing the Mankey that had started the fight and hugging him, too...though a bit more gently because of his injuries.
Jack then realized he should probably contain himself...at least for a minute. He walked over to Dave.
"Hey, that was a great match Dave," he said, extending his hand. "You and Hal were super tough. I was worried our plan wouldn't work," he said with a grin. "And having him evolve overnight...that sure was a shock!"

When the sparks cleared, Dave's heart sank. Well, that was too bad. And that last battle seemed promising, too. Next time, he thinks, definitely-not-at-all-bitterly, as he wordlessly recalls Hal, I imagine it will go better if they actually bother to tell the rules before the round starts, instead of assuming everyone has everything required.
"Just you wait," he replies to Jack, shaking the proffered hand once. "When it's actually an equal fight, things will be different."

"I'm looking forward to it," Jack said with a grin, shaking Dave's hand, "but don't expect me to wait, I plan on getting a lot stronger too," he said confidently. "Me and Bolt can't just stand still. There's still a whole League worth of gyms to challenge and trainers to battle!"

"The fifth annual Tournament of Heroes has drawn to a close! Our winner is Jack Roberts from right here in Nuvema Town!" The crowd roared as the Announcer continued "This is actually the first time a local has won the Tournament, and with his bravery earlier, he might just turn out to be another Hero yet! Well, in addition to the prestige that comes with winning the Tournament, Jack has won a Pokemon Egg!" The announcer said as he walked out to shake Jacks hand and offer him the Egg, which was a warm orange colour.
And with that, the Tournament was over until the next year.
Jack and Dave
As Bolt climbed back on Jacks shoulder, he began to spark once more, the frequency growing until eventually the little Pichu was no longer visible, though the sparks didn't seem to hurt Jack at all. As the sparks came to a finish, Bolt rested on Jacks shoulder once more, though he sat a bit heavier, his frame having changed, his body growing more proportionate and his tail increasing in size. Bolt was no longer a Pichu, and he turned to Jack with a quizzical look "Pika?"
Luke
As the fight came to a close, and the crowd began to thin out, a small figure approached Luke, hands on her hips "I thought I told you to win?" she said sternly, before walking up and putting her hand on Lukes shoulder with a smile "You did really good though! That guy was on a different wavelength and Porygon are really tough especially evolved ones. I would have lost even quicker. I'm sure you'll beat him next time though..." She trails off for a moment before realizing her hand was still on his shoulder and blushing as she quickly pulled it away "A-a-anyways....Where do you plan on going next?"

"Oh wow, a Pokemon Egg! So cool...it reminds me of when I got your egg, Bolt," Jack said, turning to look at his partner. "Bolt?"
Jack watched on as Bolt sparked and glowed. When Bolt looked over at him and spoke, Jack's face lit up. "Bolt! You-you evolved! This is so wonderful, you're a Pikachu!" Jack said excitedly. He grabbed the pokemon under the arms, holding Bolt high above his head and dancing a circular jig. "Ha-ha! Evolved! Evolved! This is so awesome!," he said exuberant lyrics. He settled down, slightly embarrassed that he let himself get carried away. He shook the announcer's hand with a grin and accepted the egg, holding it carefully.
"Wow, we won the tournament, you evolved, and we have a new pokemon egg to take care of! Could this day get any better?," he asked Bolt, an excited grin on his face.

After the other boy gets the egg, and the announcer finishes up, Dave makes his way off the arena, angling towards the exit that would get him near the Pokémon Center. As he leaves, he hears some excitement behind him, but he doesn't care enough to check it out. Besides, if it was anything that would affect him, chances are that he'd learn about it soon enough. They were tied together from that accursed contract, after all.
In his head, as walks, he replays the last battle, trying to think of what he could have done differently. But, he comes up with nothing, not that he could tell. That makes it worse. A loss because of an error on his part, he has something concrete to improve upon. But, just being outmatched in strength... there was very little that could be learned from that, battle-wise. Besides that he had to get stronger. And that he knew already. He had quite enough one-sided battles with his sisters to get that drilled into him... and he doesn't need to be reminded of them. Not now.
Pushing away that train of thought, he just continues heading for the exit.

Luke looks on morosely as Catelynn approaches him, sure he'd get scolded into next tuesday for not even reaching the finals proper. He looks downcast as she plants herself in front of him, a muttered apology already on his lips. As such, he's rather surprised that she gives up the stern act after only a few moments and places her hands on his shoulder. Blushing slightly, he looks up and gives a small, sad smile to mirror her brighter one. Upon hearing her words, he shakes his head morosely. "I know we could have won... in the end, it was really just.... Anyone could have won at that point, we were both so close to defeat and Hal just... was luckier than we, I guess... But I keep repeating that fight over and over again in my head. What If Maia had been faster? Hal wouldn't have been able to strave us as much. What if Gawain had been a bit sturdier or..." he lets out a small frustrated cry, before flipping his hood on and pulling it over his eyes, shrinking into himself and looking down.
He's silently for a few moments, before saying, in a small voice. "It's all my fault... They were relying on me... to be their trainer, their teacher, their... mentor. I failed them, and because of me we lost. I ... I wasn't good enough... Maybe my brothers were right... maybe I will amount to nothing, always average at best..." He sniffles a bit, and a few teardrops hit the ground.

Dave
Dave makes it most of the way to the exit unscathed, before a a boy a little younger then him approached, a scowl on his face "So, you lost to that kid too" he says, looking at Jack in the distance
"Looks like coming from the Battle Tower didn't help you too much, now did it?" He sneered while shaking his head "It makes me sick, a kid like that beating people who have actually been training for years at this. Almost makes you wanna do something to get back at him, doesn't it" He says, raising an eyebrow at Dave
Jack
"Pi-pika chuuu!" Bolt responds to Jack as they work their way through the crowd with most of them congratulating him on his win and Bolt continually staring at the Egg with a look of wonder. Eventually he felt a firm hand on his shoulder and looked behind him to see his parents. His father removed his hand and proudly looked at his son "I know it took a lot for you to convince us this would be a good idea, but you and Bolt were great out there"
His mother stepped forward with a smile "We just wanted to see you off before you got swarmed by everyone congratulating you. Be sure to write us at least once a week, or call! And keep out of trouble. I don't want to hear about you fighting off Team Plasma again, leave that to the Police" She said sternly
Luke
As the first of Lukes tears hit the ground, Catelynns eyes grew wide "Nonono. Don't cry or I'll start to cry..." She says softly before moving in and gripping Luke around the middle, the top of her head coming to his chin. As she squeezed him, she kept talking "You're wrong. You're so much more than average. You made it all the way to the semi finals, you stood up to Team Plasma, you beat me"
She sighed, before looking up at Luke "Luke, you're so much better then you give yourself credit for! Look at Gawain." She says, gesturing to the little Eevee, who had a look of concern on his face "You see that. He isn't blaming you for losing. He doesn't think you're a bad trainer. He's just worried because you're sad. He doesn't want to see you like this, and neither do I" she says softly

Oh, good, more people who want to talk to me, Dave thinks. Don't people in Unova ever shut up?
"Well, at least in the Battle Tower, they always told you the rules before you got to your match," he retorts. "He won't win again, when all things are fair. That's more than you can say, no?" He doesn't actually remember whether the boy in front of him had faced that particular matchup, but he figures, just from the context of the conversation.

Dave
The boy chuckles "Back in Kanto they would have kept the rules the same, not changed it to grab peoples attention. That's funny though, 'fair'" he says with air quotes "Fighting isn't fair. You just have to make sure that YOU are the one who has the advantage. I may have lost to him once, but I swear to Arceus that's the only time I'm losing in this forsaken region."
The boy takes a few steps forward "You sound cocky for someone who just lost though. Especially for someone who spent half of his first fight running around in circles. I bet I could take you down with a single Pokemon. Too bad we can't find out since you don't have any" He snickers as he looks at Hals ball

"Oh, well then," Dave snipes back, sarcastically, "Such a big man challenging someone that you're aware has no Pokémon. But, of course, I see how it is. You need to make sure that you don't have to break your vow less than five minutes after you make it. Let's see if you feel the same way once Hal's back in fighting shape." Dave keeps an unblinking gaze locked on the other boy, a half-smile on his face.

Dave
A cruel grin spread across the boys face "Alright then, you think you're so skilled, meet me back here tonight. We can see if you have what it takes to beat me. And if you don't show up then obviously you're admitting defeat."
He spins his Pokeball on his finger before pocketing it once more "We'll meet back here at midnight. One on one, so you can't claim it was 'unfair'" he says with a chuckle.
