Mentor smiles his long stare smile. Neither of the Pokemon appreciate being spat on by a sea potato. There is a moment of indignance and they both pounce on Quip. To their consternation and surprise neither can connect with the small, slippery creature as it playfully squishes about. (Blaze Kick and Darkest Lariat Miss. Each takes a tick from poison.)

The bouncy sea potato flexes, armed with glory in his single... Arm. The effect is both off-putting and kind of fascinating. Muku and Mentor however are acting on their own plans. "Ok. Remember, we're fighting to capture, alright? Go! Launch the Future Sight!" Mentor of course, was already one step ahead. The Future Sight arrow has already been unleashed. He flicks his right wing. A flurry of tiny ghost orbs coalesce around his body and fling themselves at the wrastle cat. As Muku is about to complain about this, a secondary beam of blinding energy emerges out of the woods as he flicks his left wing, catching the Blaziken unawares as it nails it across the chest. Mentor is left t-posing for dominance as Muku watches on in awe. Muku gives Mentor Brutal Orders as he fires off Shadow Barrage(Shadow Ball with Smite) and unleashes the Future Sight. Quip Taunts both opponents, for he is a terrible bouncy boy.

Shadow Ball Crit - 3d8+10
Shadow Ball... Crits, dealing a horrifying 105 Ghost Special Damage. Future Sight hits automatically and deals 96 Psychic Damage. Quip rolled a 19 for Taunt, which probably means that both targets are enraged... Providing either of them survived that onslaught.

The Blaziken is taken clean off of its feet, landing in a heap amongst the deadfall. The Incineroar is forced to a knee, and considers the mooch bird with resignation and contempt. No more attacks come from the enemy side, only labored breathing, or in the case of the fighting chicken, a pained crow.

"Mentor, really? You didn't see that one coming?" Muku chided as she looks cross at the elder bird. She considers saying more but decides against it. This was a day of learning after all. Mooch birds seemed rather docile. They WERE rather docile. But, inside every moochbird, there was the power to just absolutely obliterate your average Pokémon. If his death hadn't been so pre-ordained, who knew what kind of power he could have unleashed upon the waking world.
Or... No. That wasn't right either. No ordinary Pokémon could have taken her across creation the way that Mentor did. All Xatus were tough. Mentor was something else.
Regardless. She pauses to give Quip a loving pat before putting the grandstanding Pokémon back into her coat pocket. Reaching around her back, she flings her bag foward to reveal four lonely jars of what is most certainly just Moomoo cheese and not absolutely rancid Moomoo milk that had met its expiration date with kicking and screaming. This was not the kind of milk that was more cultured than a Goldenrod charity auction, most certainly not no. There were no colors here besides the pure yellow of goodness, not an aging brown with flecks of blue fir. As she opened the bottle, it was not the wretched scent of decay, but cheese.
Just. Cheese.
Cheese, that she moved to proffer to both combatants equally. "Ok. Sorry. That wasn't much of a fair fight. But I hope it serves to prove that I'm packing heat and going places. This'll get you healed up and..." She stops. Hesitates for a moment. "Wait. I... I don't think you're just familiar looking. We... Have we battled before, tiger cat thing?"

"I mentioned before the sight becomes strange when my own death is involved. It is nice to act without concern for the butterflies it might unleash.". Mentor sniffs indignantly.
The cat sits up and warily sniffs the cheese, then Muku. The fur markings definitely remind Muku of the smaller cat she dealt with before. With its mother. This one is clearly male, however. How Muku knows that, she has no idea.

A broad grin crosses Muku's face as she recognizes an old foe. "Hey. I think I got it figured out now. You were beating up on a Staravia, right? It's good to see you again. You look like you've gotten a lot stronger since then. The dream world must really have a lot of high hopes for you, huh?"
Her body leans forward, legs arching inward as the young trainer squats at eye level. "I did have a lot of hopes for you know. Beating up Starly and eating them wasn't a thing I could allow on principle, but I don't really have a grudge or anything like that. Survival of the fittest, right?"
"We live, we die. We all end up on the food chain eventually. Like Mentor here; he's dead, but we're gonna find him a good home before I go back home. He may not look it, but you probably felt how strong he... Was." Her voice cuts off and falters. Head cocked; she gives a brief moment of greater consideration to this conversation she was having. If the Pokémon that were all here were dead, then that would mean...
Oh. Oh no.
Her stomach drops. It takes all of her will power to stay steady in her crouched position as she closes her eyes. "It... It was that bug thing. Wasn't it? You don't have to tell me. I know. It was that thing. I knew it, I knew it, I KNEW IT. That stupid thing. It doesn't belong on this earth. That Nurse should have just let me hunt it, kill it, and then none of this would have happened!"
She bites her tongue. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry I didn't act fast enough. It's my job to keep Pokémon safe from things like that. And obviously, I failed pretty hard if you're... Ya know... Here."

The large cat gets progressively more confused as Muku speaks and starts shaking his head no and waving her off. He takes a moment to pinch the bridge of his nose.
Gesturing to himself, he pantomimes out a figure the same size and shape as him, and a much smaller one.

Muku presses on, oblivious to the truth in front of her. "It's ok. I get it. That bug thing is awful. The sooner the world is rid of it's presence the better. We shall lay it low. As low as you were when you were that size."
She nods, misguided determination filling her breast. "Come with me, and I'll make sure that thing doesn't threaten you or any other Pokémon of this world. I just need a bit of extra help to reach this world's end; then, then I can leave here to do what I should have done as soon as I had heard there was a problem. No waiting. No rest. Just extermi-"
"...nation?" Her head hurts a little bit. Yes that thing didn't belong to this world, but did she really have to kill it? There are other ways of dealing with problems other than straight up murder. Sometimes a happy border with Pidgeys simply means making clear that there is a place for Starly and a place for Pidgey. But there were no places for Pidgey. There was only Starly place as far as the eye could see. Right? No, because that's a stupid thought. There are some places where Starly don't want to be like here and-
She zones out. Thinking. Furiously.
...Thoughts. Thoughts were weird. Right?

The cat slouches forward, shoulders hunched, looking thoroughly unimpressed but makes a gesture that is probably as good as a go ahead. The bird, pulling itself out of splintered logs, brushes wood from her plumeage.

"Hey. You. I got cheese for you too." Muku says, lobbing the wretched canister of disgust and horror block of solid cheese towards the prone bird before her. "I've seen the tiger fight. I've yet to see you fight. You're like a bird. But a flightless bird. However. You do seem a fight-full bird, and that's good enough for me if you want to face some real challenges."
She cocks head to the side, her hat comb exuding an aura of power and glory. "I am the one they call Muku. You are bird that is not a Starly and I am inclined to hate you for it. But if I can align myself with this moochbird over here, then I can ally myself with you."

The fightbird caught the cheese briskly and gave it the sort of look that staraptor had. If looks could maim. It smelled the culinary monstrosity, then consumed it while making eye contact with Muku.
Fightbird's crest was long and hung down its back out of the way. It considered her comb, moving to stand before her without looking away from it. It was truly glorious.
Fightbird offered a bow of the head to Mentor, then a nod of assent to Muku, never breaking eye contact with the human.

"Ok. So that's settled. Next ring, we'll take a moment and I'll sync you guys up with how I like to fight. Unlike working with the sea potato, I think you guys will take to it quite nicely." She smirks. To each Pokémon, she offers a Pokéball. Sign of the contract. If they were all well and truly done here... Then perhaps it was time to leave this zone of blasted dirt.

(Blaziken, Female Level 60, Rash Nature. Blaze, Speed Boost, Moxie. Focus Energy, Brave Bird, Flare Blitz, Blaze Kick, Bulk Up, Sky Uppercut. Incineroar, Male Level 60, Lax Nature. Blaze, Intimidate, Defiant. Darkest Lariat, Flare Blitz, Outrage, Roar, Thrash, Swagger.)
Muku makes her pair of new friends, the Incineroar still struggling to make it clear that he is a father of one and not a child murdered by a superbug. It is really hard to dissuade Muku when she gets an idea into her mind however. Pressing onwards, and through the next wall, it again exacts its price.
So many lay dead, on every side. All it had taken was a single razor wing arriving in the neighborhood, and no one was safe. It hadn't spared the blackbirds. Not the stupid pidgeys. Not the starleys. Not even the owls, though more than a few were thankful to see even a single owl removed from the equation. During a time of The Great Rain and The Baking Sun, and The Storm Without Equal, the Grand Migration began. The Bird War took its toll as avians fought, island to island. The fiercest kicks from Muku's talons, and blows from her wings had only angered it. Bloodied, she came across the little tinderbirds. They were lazy, and cooked things instead of pecking them, but razor wings hated fire, and everyone knew it.

"You must join us in our fight." She says. It is not a request, but a demand. Even bowed in battle, her pride would not allow her to bend before a lesser. "The razor wing troubles all flocks. If we cannot together drive it off, it will eventually come to trouble you as well. Today it is one. Tomorow it may be a family of them. Not even you can fight them then."
Except... Was that right? It couldn't be right. These terms unfamiliar. The Baking Sun, the Great Rain, the Storm Without Equal: these were all events, but they were not her events. Not in this way. In this life? Except she had only had this life. So why would she?
Her attention snaps back to the scene before her. These were silly thoughts. Time was wasted on such idle philosophy. What mattered was the answer. The call to action. A call that she would not allow the tinder birds to reject.

"Razorwings do not bother us." The tinderbird declared with a peep. "How is it any different from how Starly pecks Pidgey, and Spearow pecks Pidove, and Murkrow steals nests?" The bird with its fire red and ash grey plumes answered with disgust.
"Rockbugs are of bigger concern. Delicious on the inside, pointy and unforgiving at ten wingspans. What will you give us, if we drive away the razor wing?"

"I'll give you a swift death." Muku thought undiplomatically. Muku often thought undiplomatically. Still. She knew better than that, however. Her feathers ruffle mightily, and she closes her eyes as she intones, "These are trying times and they are changing times. The razor wing takes too many and none among our number can stand against their sharp metal hide. So. In order to overcome, we must learn to adapt."
The bird-bird cocks her head and considers it for a moment. "I propose that our flock shall fly along yours for the next migration. If it is rock bugs you desire, then we can handle them. In addition, our own flock shall watch over your eggs as if they were our own, so as to keep them safe from thieving rats and malicious Mukrow."
"Though, we won't handle the rock-bugs much better than you however. She thought. Rock anything was trying for Star-kind. But they had long learned a secret that many birds didn't know. The secret of bird-fu, an art learnt only by the strongest of Staraptor. She puffs her chest out with pride at the thought.
...Except. She was Starly. She didn't know bird-fu. Or, no. Wasn't she human? She could be-
Her eye twitches softly. Such strange thoughts. Perhaps these days were more trying than she thought, if this was some strange result of stress...

The offer seems to surprise the tinderbird. "I would suspect such an offer from a blackbird, and all the duplicitousness that would come from it. Never a warrior-invader." Sitting back, they considered. "Eggs are valuable, to be protected. All of birdkind accepts this. It is true, too, that Razorwings can shoot rocks. Should it begin breeding, it would eventually become a problem to us."
Scratching at the branches with his talons, he chirped irritably. "You would swear your services before the bird that stares at time?"

"I would offer my services, and yet you would have me swear before a pitiful moochbird?" Her eye twitches. Such annoyances. Once more she was forced to constrain her talons as they grip oh so tight, oh so red as she loooonged to rip into this insolent creature. To be laid so low as to swear bargains with a tinderbird. What times these were. She takes in a deep breath.
"Fine. I swear upon the unblinking. If one of my number should trouble yours, I will bring them to heel. My range will be your range, my trees, your trees. Where roost, mine shall roost."
She huffs, puffing out her breast mightily before. "Granted. This is for a single passing. One wintering. One spring. One migration. After that, I cannot make such guarantees. I do have to look out for my own flock first, as you must understand. But it will be a good time to lay many eggs, should you wish to take advantage of that."

"Very well. One migration for one Razorwing..."
The Staring was where it always was, had always been. Old, by it's kinds standards, green feathers giving way to gray. It looked on their request, gave favorable answer to both parties in their arrangement. Then, as they moved to leave, the creature stiffened with a shudder.
"Warrior. I will know you someday, when feathers give way to flesh and a thousand beeps yield to the shouts of man. You will find yourself in the place beyond the end, though you will not know it. If you choose to free them, to save them, you must hold to what you have become."

Muku turns with a cocked head. Bowing slightly. She chitters almost tenderly in return, "Forgive me Mentor Farseer, but I am but a humble bird. Your words are simply too confusing for a human like me."
Wait. No. That couldn't be right. A human? But they weren't-
"But I am." Muku understands. This wasn't her. No. Maybe not quite right? A could have been, a would have been, a should have been. A possibility or an echo; nothing more and yet the girl within the bird grips the memory in her talon so tightly as to not let it go. Maybe, maybe even as a Starly, she had the potential to be a great Starly. Something a little more than just a beep among many. The thought brought waves of comfort that washed over her and stripped her of some of the pain and trauma. Not everything of course. But enough for now.
"I think I get it now." She whispers into the void. "May I continue? There is still much journeying to be done."
