"I see..." he says, nodding. "That makes sense. I'm just used to everything being so orderly, I guess, and Hope and Serenity got along so well that I expected that all to stay the same. But, I guess everyone's different, and neither Bliss or Patience had the best upbringing. Bliss being caught just to be sold, and Patience... all of that. I should try and give them all some more one-on-one time, help them work it out."
"Thank you for the advice. It helps, because I second-guess myself a lot. Hopefully I'm able to fix that... does the school help with that at all?"

His Pokémon weren’t the only ones giving Chuck the stink eye. “If you’re here to crush rocks and bones, why are sitting under a waterfall?” Muku asks, voice barely piercing the cascade of water that was coursing in from the ceiling.
Her ears twitch. She liked loud things, but consistent loud things were a nuisance. How could her beeping be heard over this much water? How could anyone communicate under so much water? Wasn’t he a Fighting Type kind of guy?
She cringes. This place was weird and she didn’t like it.

"Charm school is more for things like proper manners and etiquette, but it might help you learn more about yourself and be more assertive. It didn't do all that much for me, didn't really agree with the whole ideal 'lady' presentation they pushed, but if it is your thing maybe you will take to it.". Whitney shrugged, slinging her arms behind her head as they walked.
"It builds core, back, and leg strength. The water has weight, and focuses your body and mind into one!" With that he hammered a fist onto the stone before him, crushing it effortlessly.

"I see..." he repeats. "So, it might help, it might not, and I'll not know until I try it." He gives a bit of a laugh. "Sounds about exactly like the rest of life so far."
Thel's lost in thought for a bit, before realizing, "We're going... to have to go through Ecruteak, right?" His face falls. "Em's there. I told her that I'd see her when I went back there. But also I promised I'd keep the others safe..."

Muku swoons. Briefly. Terrifiying displays of destruction were slightly attractive. Her mind flashes back to an aerial fight, wing on wings, talon to talon. Knives out, beaks red like vultures. Birds were breakable. Stones weren't. If nothing else, she could admire a person who smash a rock
She shakes her head. This was all a weird tangent to be taking right now. Folding her arms, she calls out of the falling waters, "That's really cool, but we also do need to talk. We're not really people and we're really not supposed to be here."

The atmosphere of the gym was a bit interesting, as well as the openness of place. Terra's eyes would swipe along the walls and waterfalls. A look that was easy to make out that she wasn't pleased at the amount of water around her. She had to be in agreement with Muku's feelings about the sound being almost overbearing.
At being told that being under the water built strength she seemed skeptical, that was until her eyes widened in awe at the stone breaking under just his fist. Humans were not known for strength like that! At least as far as she had been aware. It reminded her of back home with the boulders being broken by herself and the other pokemon. Hands closing into fists. She wanted to do that.
Oh right, talking, that's what they were here to do first. "Yeah. There's also people attacking and kidnapping," Terra added now that she recovered her voice.

"You didn't have any control over what happened to them Thel, you can't expect to be able to do everything on your own." Whitney chastised a bit sharply before wincing, and reigning in her tone a little. "If you can't look her in the eyes after that, it's fine, but like... Yank the bandaid off? Babying a topic like that is just going to make it worse for you when you -do- see her. Besides, maybe there's something she can do to help?" The girl's eyes wandered awkwardly away from him, surveying the woods.
Chuck gives his middle a slap and laughs heartily at Muku's statement, then his joviality gives way to confusion with Terra's followup. "Uh... Sorry what? I spend most of my time here, did I miss something?" He moves out of the shallow water and towels off, his Pokemon following suit as he pulls on an orange gi with a black belt wrapped around the middle. It is quite slimming. "There've been kidnappings? And... you're actually not human?"

Thel looks at Whitney, blankly. "I know that. Well, not the 'yank the bandaid' part. But, I wouldn't keep something like that from her. And I would not break both of my promises. Well... all three, I guess. Because I also said I'd return only once I found my place. But, especially breaking one willingly and knowingly. That would not be right of me." He sighs. "It was just occurring to me that I really would have to tell her. I don't look forwards to it. She already put herself through hardship for the rest of us. But, it can't be avoided. I'd just rather meet her again under better scenarios..."

Muku’s eye twitches. What wasn’t there understand?
“This is easy, and a short story ok? Ok, so. Muku, I, was a bird and I had a flock full of other birds, which were Starly and Starly adjacent evolutions called Staravia, and we were having s real good beeping time when bad people in red swooped in, broke up the flock, shoved me in a cage where they zapped us and other bad things that Muku couldn’t have possibly understood because Muku is a bird and although I am smart now, Muku was not.”
“So anyways, they did us a zap one too many and somehow Muku wasn’t a Starly, and I wasn’t a human, which is still really bad, but I am coping by not thinking about it because I have an off-on relationship that can only be described as rocky because Starly are not equipped with the same brainpower that a human is and sometimes that gives me headaches, but ANYWAYS the plock that I have now has been traveling for a few days, but after we did a shopping trip in Goldenrod, we got attacked and Terra, this is Terra, say hello to Terra, got kidnapped on a boat so I swam out to the boat in spite of having been attacked by a separate, but still evil woman with a shock-shock thing who choked out my Quagsire, whom I love and adore because she is good, and that’s a tangent because the real story is that we stole a bobber from the bobber and did an escape, which went real good until a sharp fin fish blew up the engine and then the boat, which was terrifying, and then I woke up to the sound of sea Pidgeys and I haven’t mentioned this yet, but it’s important that you know that I hate Pidgeys because they are awful.”
Lurching forward, she sucks in a merciful breath of air. “Does that sum it up?” She asks shakily, Muku herself shaken by such a merciless beep storm.

So many words, Terra would end up rubbing at her ears about half way through. It was still surprising when the other went into her storm of beeps. However Muku did get a majority of the situation covered. "Like she said. We were turned into humans by other humans. So we are people, but also not," she states in agreement of what had been told so far.
"The people that kidnapped me was Team Aqua, they dress in blue and white a lot. And we think that the woman that attacked Muku was... Team Magma, I think he said," Terra added after a moment of remembering her conversation with Archie. "But the ones that took me, wanted to bring me here. I don't know why though." Her eyes stayed focused on Chuck, watching for his reaction to this information.

Whitney half frowned as she considered Thel for a moment, then moved in front of him to block his way forward. "Hold up." She straightened the shoulders of his dress and smoothed the fabric against his middle, brushing at a bit of dirt from his scuffle the day prior. "It's pretty clear that this girl is really important to you, and you've decided you want to be the standard for a Lady... so, maybe a lesson right here will make starting school a little easier. There's some basic things people do to look more presentable, and that is a big thing."
Chuck listened through Muku's cascade with a mildly clueless, befuddled look on his face as she went on her rambling tirade, at the end of it all, he gave his Pokemon a sidelong glance and the Poliwrath shrugged, closing its eyes. Terra's followup seemed a lot easier to follow. "Turning Pokemon into people now? That's a new one. Used to be that the nefarious sorts kept to organized crime to make money or amass rare Pokemon. Seems like word goes round about some world ending crisis or another across the regions every few years. I've heard of yer Aqua and Magma, one of our distant water-neighbors had an issue with two fellers taking conservation a bit too seriously and waking a pair of legends that duked it out and some hard. Last I heard one was in jail and the other had gone missing, off to a life of piracy. Weird they'd be here in Johto."
Scratching at the lower curve of his paunch, he considered the gym entrance for a moment. "Come to think of it, when we were out training in the caves, we did see a good sized boat settled there once or twice. Never thought too much of it, and they don't bother nobody here on the island."

He's not sure how those two things go together, Em and school, but he's all ears. "Uh, okay. We can do that now. I'm happy to learn new things. Because even the simplest of human behaviour is completely alien to me... and I want to fit in here. What's looking presentable, and why is it important? Is that something I should be doing for Em? Or is it for school? I'm a little confused."

Well at least Chuck seemed to understand her when she simplified things. A slight sigh leaving her as her hand would run through her hair. She still was a bit uneasy knowing that they were where Aqua wanted her. The expression that appeared as he explained about knowing about them, it didn't make much sense or seem to matter to her. "Well, they are here. Hurt her pokemon, and took us away from our friend in Goldenrod," Terra stated in a frustrated tone.
"That could be them, they had a big sized boat. And Joy said that we would be safe while we are here. Is that true?" the question is simple.

Muku lets her eyes close as she recalls the incident in question, Goldsire being lowed in a single blow. She had lost to the dancers, but this was the first time she felt outmatched in a rather fantastic fashion. Escape wasn’t even a possibility, and she STILL didn’t know what she had been attacked for! Thinking back further to the blur that was their escape, she could recall one of Magma’s leader fighting that great Dragon Man with the cape.
The notion is uncomfortable. “If Aqua is like Magma then... They really are strong. They made the boat go boom, and that was with a shark. So is that like, two rocks?”
Muku shifts uncomfortably, cradling her right arm with her left. This could be a bit more dangerous than she had imagined.

"It's a little of both." Whitney explained, helping Thel get settled on a stump and moving around behind him, producing a brush from her bag. "Making yourself look nice is a sign that you are proud of your appearance, and that how other people see you is important to you. In the case of more intimate relationships, it shows them that they are important to you too. You want this Em to like the way you look right?" Whitney asked as she set about trying to tame Thel's hair. "You will get a lot more respect from the girls at school if you go into it exuding an air of success. They can be brutal to people that don't meet their standards."
Chuck jerked a thumb at his chest and grinned a beardy grin. "Nobody starts trouble in my town. Cianwood isn't the easiest place to live but it's one of the best. Met my wife here, plenty to explore inland, good enough fishing. I'll look into your Team Aqua Boat, you kinds just find something to get up to in the meanwhile! If you want, I can even leave one of my Pokemon to look after you while you poke around the island, and I'll give you the all clear when this is sorted."

"Oh, I see," Thel starts to nod, but then thinks better of it. "This is a whole new world of things that I've not even thought about before... it's not really something a Salandit needs to worry about. 'Presentability' doesn't really matter. Not in the way you're putting it, at least."
"I don't exactly have success, though," he admits. "The only real things I've successfully done over the last little while have been the two badges. And I guess learning how to put food together without it tasting awful. I don't think I really meet anyone's standards for even being human."

A strong show of confidence is all that Muku needed to perk up. "Ok, ok. If you're careful, then we'll be careful." However, she wasn't completely sold on being tailed by one of Chuck's Pokémon and it showed in her face as she looked across the field of burly Pokémon. "Not sure if I really want... Hrmm."
She thought about it. Then she stopped thinking about it. Thinking was bad. Nope!
"Terra, what do you think?" She asks, delegating the upsetting task to her teammate expertly. "Muku- I don't mind doing what you want to do here. Beaches are weird and maybe it might be good to have burly strong mon to join us but also that could be annoying, but maybe annoying isn't bad when there are bad men waiting to do bad things on the bad boat in the bad ocean hiding by the bad caves surrounded by the ocean in the bad."
She sits in place, crouching and staring at the ground with a huff. This was a stressful line of thought for Muku.

Terra didn't look too thrilled about being stuck here while Chuck would be investigating the situation with Aqua and the boat. Shifting in place and glancing between the pokemon that had been out training with the gym leader.
They didn't need to be watched like some pokemon hatchlings. However, there was merit in having extra backup, while they were here. Muku's Quagsire was taken out by the Magma pokemon in one blow, that's what she had said anyway.
At being told she could make the decision, the green haired girl took a minute to debate it in her head. "Fine. Would be good to have another mon in case there's another attack or something," Terra makes the choice known.
Now that was settled, she watched Chuck, to see what pokemon he would send with them. Or if there was anything else he might have to inform them about the area. Clearly the two of them were out of their elements, quite literally in that sense.

"That's not really a Pokemon I'm familiar with, so I can't put it into terms you might understand. A human is considered successful when they are independent, learned, skilled, wealthy, or influential. A lot of those things are human concepts, but, I imagine you have something like growing up and leaving your nest right?" The slow tugs of the brush continued, Whitney moving his hair this way and that to find a good angle to braid it at. "What is being an adult for a Salandit?"
"Gunshow?" Hugh called loudly into the gym, a well muscled, blue skinned humanoid with four arms and a duck like face appeared from one of the side doors peered into the gym proper with a questioning 'Macha?' The fighting leader beckoned the Pokemon over. "This is Terra, and Muku." Hugh gestured to each girl in turn. "You'll be keeping them company, and if they need your assistance, giving whoever's the troublemaker all the power of Cianwood! Whooah!" He Kiai'd, the Machamp following suit. "The island is home to a lot of rock, water, flying, and fighting types. We see the odd dragon now and then too, I'll try to be quick about this, just give me a day to get my affairs in order."

"For the ladies... uh, I don't really know. When some of them grew big enough, there were bits of tussles, and they either died or left the nest with some of those that they managed to keep under their influence more than the Lady's. Either that, or they just... stayed and do whatever it was the ladies did to keep themselves occupied. I don't really know." He shrugs. "For males like me... as far as I know, it was basically just do the same thing forever. I don't really think there were any of us that were that old. Mostly died when out hunting dangerous prey when their reflexes weren't fast enough or something..."
"So... I guess, yeah, there was growing up and nest-leaving, but it was always something violent, that meant that the den was weaker for a time, and everyone had to work harder. Certainly nothing to look forwards to. ...independence isn';t really a very... Salandit concept. You belong to the den, and the den belongs to the Lady. There is a strict hierarchy, and you're punished for even thinking about going outside it. Until eventually you don't even think about it."
