The trek from Dewford is long. A ferry to Slateport, then walking up back to Mauville - though it's at least new sights - then another short ferry to cross over the river bisecting Hoenn. It's uneventful. Thankfully so after the last little while, though part of that is on the part of the group.
The girls, certainly, are loathe to split up, or venture far from the path. Evelyn and Ayah, especially, given that they're as yet the only ones who've not had anything happen to them. The uneventfulness doesn't really seem to raise spirits, though. The days blend. So too does the road, as the week goes on. The tall, tall overgrown grass in the north doesn't help, either. It's hard to see each other, or even the path.
And then it starts to rain. All of a sudden, really, though there was barely a cloud in the sky prior. Thick, heavy drops. Not so much refreshing as... torrential. Moving for the cover of the nearest trees, though, it sounds like coming from deeper within the woods is... a rhythmic eerie sound. And motion. Something's going on within.

"What do ya figure it is Kai?" Theodore asked as he moved slowly through the trees, aiming to get a better look at the source of the noise. "Haven't seen rain quite like this in some long while, s'like Spring after a long, dry winter or something."

Kai noticeably flinched when the water first struck him, though he went back to relaxed after a moment of the rain falling. He bothered zipping up his jacket once they got under cove. When he heard Theo's question, he tapped his chin in thought for a second. "I.. guess it could be a Pokemon's fault, or a storm came in from the sea. If it's a Pokemon though, willing to bet it has something to do with that sound we're hearing"
He looks around, trying to see if he can get a look at whatever is causing it as he moves closer to what's causing it. Whatever it is can't be as bad as anything else he's dealt with.. probably.

"I don't like it..." Ayah says, doing her best to hug close to the tree trunk. "When something happens out of the blue, that seems to be a bad sign..."
"Well," Evelyn says, confidently, "there's a group of us. I'm sure it'll be fine. Uh... maybe we should let it be, though."
Approaching the noise, Theo, still keeping close to the group, is able to get things to be a little clearer. While the brush is too high to get much distinct, it very much seems like there are Pokémon there. No humans, unless they're sitting on the ground or anything of the sort.
What seem like green blobs of motion move beyond the brush, where it seems like a clearing might be. There could be a half dozen or more, possibly. But one thing that is clear is what looks like a tiny cloud with a raindrop on it happily floating around through the air.

"Some kinda weather-mon, feel like I shoulda known this from Grandpa, but let's see what the ol' red box has to say..." He points his 'Dex at it through the tall grass, the loud registering ding announcing him as the device follows up with the description as it does.

"Hey, that's pretty cool. Wonder if it just does rain or if it does others?" The islander visibly relaxes now that he saw a Pokemon, he reaches up and turns his hat around so that it actually covers his face from the rain a bit, though it was certainly getting damp.
He waits to hear what the Dex has to say about the Pokemon, plus he was still unsure about the things hiding in the grass.

"Castform," the Dex reads. "The Weather Pokémon. Although its form changes with the weather, that is apparently the result of a chemical reaction and not the result of its own free will. Recently, its molecules were found to be just like water."
It doesn't seem like the Castform's making the noise, though it does float over towards the Trainers with some curiosity, hanging back out of arms reach.

"Well, nothin' ventured..." Theodore comments and starts pushing through the massive fronds to get a better look into the clearing, a hand moving to one of the balls at his belt. "Seems friendly enough, hard to say 'bout its friends though."

"Well, the little guy at least is cute, hopefully those are it's friends and not a predator or something" Kai lingers for a moment before heading over to the approaching raincloud, one of his hands in his jacket pocket just in case.

Pushing through, the rain still pouring, the two Trainers get a better look at what's within, the girls hanging back a little. What greets them isn't particularly threatening, though... it seems to be three green frogs, and an equal number of green and yellowish plant-ducks.
The frogs don't really look up at the interruption, and they seem to be the source of the noise, croaking and hopping rhythmically in a circle in front of an empty depression in the ground that looks to be filling up with water. The ducks seem to have been dancing around in... a more haphazard manner, rain filling up the dishes on their heads, but look to pause more at the Trainers' approach, a little warily.
It almost seems like the rain lightens a little bit.

"Ohhh, it's so intense because they're all using Rain Dance!" Kai looks pleased at having figured that out, but made sure to stop moving towards them when they looked over. No reason to startle them further, even if he was a little tempted to try and dance with them... just a little bit.

Theodore similarly takes a step back, curious about this behavior and the bowl they have surrounded. He's no intention to disturb further, but paused to look back where they left the girls. They were in a group, it would be okay, he reassured himself.

The ducks, after seeing the Trainers pause and not do anything untoward, seem to ease up and go back to dancing... which once more causes the rain to get even harder. The earthen depression continues filling... but so too does cracks and dips in the grassland and forest floor. It seems like the ground is not prepared for the sudden rains, and there's probably going to be some localized flooding if this keeps up. Or, at the very least, a lot of mud everywhere.
"Uh... should we stop them?" Ayah asks, looking around at the pooling water, moving towards an area that's not puddling as much. "This... seems a little worrying."
"Eh, it's just natural," Evelyn says, dismissively. "this place has been fine for years, hasn't been destroyed or anything. Why would now be any different?"
The Castform cries out happily, and it feels like the rain gets even worse.

"I mean, Nature does destroy stuff sometimes. Though if this place is known for lots of water that might not be a big issue... is it known for lots of water?" As much as Kai liked their dancing, if it was bad for the environment they should probably do something... but he definitely didn't know the environment like the rest of the people here. He looked on over hoping someone would answer the question for him.

Ruby pulls out her C-Gear, skimming through things, muttering to herself as she does her best to shield it from the water.. "Hmmm... periodic rainfall from Pokémon...not unexpected...usually fairly light. Travellers may want to pack umbrellas during peak gathering periods, usually approaching the full moon. River not expected to rise."
She looks at the others. "It seems... a little unusual. Most of what I see mentions light showers," she glances at the pooling puddles, "not galosh flooding."

"That's all I really needed to hear." Theodore released Six and raised his voice over the powerful rattling of the rain. "AIGHT FELLERS, THAT'S PLENTY 'NOUGH. GIT ON BACK TO YORE NESTS FORE WE HAVE TO THROW HANDS!"

Kai flinches at the shouting, not being prepared for it despite the sign of Six showing up. He shakes his head for a moment, pulling out Coronet's ball and letting the Ninetales burst into the fray. Said fox just looks around, a bit confused about the sudden deluge it was in, giving a glare at Kai for a moment before he pointed over at the dancing ones. "There's the ones making it rain, if they don't step down stay ready."
Kai glanced back at Theo, not really enjoying the sudden provocation they were going for, but hey. It had been a bit since they had a less serious fight... He just chuckled as he went back to staring at the dancers, wondering what they were gonna do.

Theo's ultimatum is met with... none of the Pokémon caring. There's a brief pause at the loud noise, but other than that there's not really even a reaction. They just seem happy to keep on dancing, even with a new, more angry, tree looming above them. Map

Kai sighed, extending his arm and lazily pointing at the nearest dancing duck. "Freeze them solid, Coronet"Said Ninetales gives a small smirk at that, giving a yip before opening it's mouth wide as it's tails flare up, before a bolt of instant freezing energy streaks towards it's target. Coronet's freezing air causes the dancing duck to quack in pain, running off into the bushes in fear. It looks like that, while they're willing to fight to keep dancing, enough dissuading will get them to leave. But, they'll have to get to that point, first. Several of the ducks move to unleash (fairly ineffectual) bubbles of water on Six, while two of the frogs move to slam into him, causing a surprising amount of damage to something so big. The Castform fires off a ball of water at Coronet, but the frog near him's attempt to lull him to sleep with a gentle light doesn't quite work. Ludicolo takes 2 injuries from Freeze Dry. It's super effective! Six takes 6 damage from Bubblebeam, and -1 Speed CS. Ludicolo misses with Bubble Beam. Six takes 31 damage and is Paralyzed from Body Slam. Six takes 33 damage and an injury from Body Slam. Coronet takes 24 damage from Weather Ball.
