Kane looks in awe at the coolest pawniard in the history of everything. He waves at the pawniard.
"Thank you for your help great warrior!"

Ira narrows his eyes. Either this Pawniard is also antagonistic towards the drone's controller or its some sort of double bluff. Either way, he keeps an eye on it as he and Chase slip through the cleft, tensing themselves for a fight.

Beyond the initial crack is a winding path, going deeper in. As Ira enters the cleft, the drone rounds a corner, out of sight, its buzzing fading. Within, the cleft is full of litter- candy wrappers, fast food containers, and crushed cans that appear to have been nibbled on by metal-eating Pokemon. The Pawniard scuttles along a series of handholds for a moment before ducking into a small cave about three feet over Ira's head. A closer look at the cans reveals that most of them were cans for foods like bean soup, canned peaches, ramen noodles, and similar foods. Whatever crushed these cans is likely very strong, physically. Only a handful of cans were for sodas and soft drinks.

Ira sighs, wrinkling his nose at the smell of all the discarded junk food. Shaking his head, he fights hoists Chase up into the cave before attempting to climb into the cave himself. Athletics check: eD_im9Ee3d6 3d6

Kane chases the pawniard back to its cave, and also attempts to climb into it, using Ira's head as footing and support

The cave is sized for a Pawniard, so it's really small. You have to crawl on your hands and knees to squeeze through (though Chase doesn't seem to have a problem.) The cave opens into a larger interior space, with no other way out beyond the entrance you squeezed through. Within the interior cavern is a little pile of grass serving as Pawniard's bed, and a small Nio shrine built against the far wall out of various Nio paraphernalia. Pawniard, which has just pulled out a volume of Nio manga and appears to be about to peruse it, seems surprised at your presence. Ira Pawniard doesn't seem to be in cahoots with the fat man on the drone, which is nice. Though he is a Nio fanatic. Like everyone else on this island, apparently. Elise You remember from science class that Pokemon are highly adaptable, and can change in response to their environment. For example, if a Golem a Rock/Ground type, spent its time in the heart of a volcano, over time it might change into a Rock/Fire type, with new abilities and possibly new moves to boot. Pawniard clearly retains one of its types, but which one? And what is the new type it has? You'll need to examine closer to know. But you do know that the move with the dagger was Pin Missile. Kane Much of the Nio objects here were made from whatever Pawniard could drag into the cave, so they're all a bit on the small side. That being said, you recognize plastic toys, pages from magazines, manga, a cassette tape or two- all lovingly cleaned and kept in pristine condition. The manga Pawniard is perusing now tells of how one of Nio's friends was kidnapped and taken into a mountain fortress. It ends on a cliffhanger note, without telling how Nio bravely assaults the fort to get them back.

Ira gives a slightly embarrassed wave before backing slowly out of the cave.
He descends and then helps Chase down, before continuing along. However, as they do, he keeps looking over his shoulder, watching their backs. The Nio thing was probably a coincidence, but her didn't want to take the chance of Pawniard coming up behind them.

"Interesting." She'd seen a few weird things lately. But a pokémon hoarding such a collection was unheard off. It's typing intrigued Elise as well.

As Ira makes his way down the gully, there's a loud roar from somewhere deeper within, and the ground shakes- either from the moves Earthquake or Magnitude, or because something big and heavy is thrashing around. Up ahead, two grown men- both of whom are dressed like hikers, unlike the fatso on the screen- come barrelling towards you, and appear to be in the middle of an argument. "But I had to piddle!" one whines in protest. "On its face?!" "I didn't even finish!" The second one sees Ira up ahead. "Run for your life, kiddo! That thing's angry!" They push past Ira and continue out of the gully, while the massive thing they angered comes closer and closer...
Within the coolest cave in the history of coolest caves, Kane and Elise hear the roar, and the shaking ground causes dust to fall from the ceiling. Pawniard looks up in concern, and then at the entrance. Putting away the manga, it attempts to squeeze out past Kane and Elise.

Crap, that'll get Drone Kid running, too! Ira thinks as he and Chase take a ready stance, waiting for the thing to show itself.

The crashing gets louder, and around the corner comes an Onix. Blind rage shines in its eyes, and its thrashing body grinds and crushes the dirt and rocks around it; a suspicious-looking puddle adorns its forehead. Behind it, frolicking in the mess it's making, is a trio of odd, brown, equine Pokemon you've never seen before. They look like dirty, not-fire-type Ponyta. You'd ask Rotom about them... if Rotom wasn't busy in the cave, geeking out over the Nio shrine. GM's note: I'll be a bit busy this week, but I should have the map ready by this weekend!

Rotom quickly scans the new Pokemon. " Mudbray, the Donkey Pokemon. They are a very muddy species who eat mud and bathe in it; they become disobedient when they're not allowed to be muddy. Due to it being hunted to extinction almost all over the world, it can only be found in the wild in Alola. They're also extremely strong for their small size- they can pull a tractor trailer on their own!" Onix roars angrily and swipes at the rocky sides of the gully, throwing a hail of rocks at Chase. However, the suspicious puddle gets into its eyes, throwing its aim off, and the rocks crash near Chase instead. It gives another roar when it realizes it missed. You have a map now! The words/numbers are markers indicating how high each section of the gully wall is. This is not only for the purposes of fall damage, but also so you can calculate whether or not you can climb up. To climb the wall, it'll cost you 1+the wall's height (so if the wall is 2 meters up, it'll cost 3 meters of movement.) You also need to make a DC 10 athletics checks to climb (though if you have Naturewalk (Mountain), you won't need to), and you can end your turn clinging to the wall; if you fail, you simply don't climb any further. However, if you don't have Naturewalk (Mountain), if you're hit while clinging to a wall you'll need to make an athletics check or fall. Onix missed Chase with Rock Throw. It is now Chase's turn.

Chase growls, about to charge the Onix before Ira shakes his head and indicates towards the cliff face. Understanding that he's probably better suited against the Mudbray, Chase hurries over, letting loose a powerful howl in anticipation. Meanwhile, Ira steps forward, locking eyes with the gigantic rock snake. Despite the almost ridiculous size difference, it's still a look that would make even an Onix hesitate - a look that says, without ambiguity: "I am not afraid of you." He knows it will only slow the creature down and set it off balance a little, but it'll hopefully give his siblings time to bring in their more type-appropriate Pokemon. Chase: Standard: Uses Howl
Ira: Standard: Use Mean Look on Onix Swift: Spend 1 AP to use Roughneck, lowering Onix's SpDef by 1 CS

Onix rears back a moment from Ira's glare, before roaring defiantly at the boy, shaking the ground with its thrashing body. It is now Kane's turn, if he wishes to take an action. Elise can join whenever she is ready.

As Kane and Elise rush out to join in the fight, the Mudbray, seeing the newcomers, spray mud all over themselves. Meanwhile,Onix, in its confusion, begins smashing its head against a nearby wall. As Kane sends out Takumi, you notice the Pawniard standing heroically- but instead of facing the Onix, it's facing Kane and Takumi. Kane You realize what this Pawniard is now. It's not merely a massive Nio fan- it's a ronin, a masterless warrior seeking someone worthy of serving. If you can best this might warrior in a trial of combat, you might prove yourself worthy of its service! OOC Onix hurt itself in its confusion, and the Mudbray used Mud Sport. It's now Chase's turn. Also, I don't have a Pawniard token (yet); I should have one by tomorrow. For now, I'm using a placebo.
