For those opening the boxes, you find handheld rectangular devices with red plastic casing and screens that completely cover the front. The only visible buttons on them are for "volume" and "power". Jason, you smell the stinging scent of alcohol and medicine coming from the pray bottle. Keno, you can recognize these as a new line of potions that were released by the Sylph Co., called "Potion +". Under normal circumstances, these behave like regular potions, but they have been mixed with other medicines to be used in other occasions. John, after looking over your device, a circular piece, where the glyph is pops up and a clear disk emerges with green lights shining through it. Different words and polygons fly across it as it seems to be a type of holographic display. You see the name, "Arachnut", fly across along with different colored sections that list stats, nature, abilities, and moves.
Izzy, the taillow stare back at you, but they appear to be uneasy, as if something is keeping them from moving from their nests to attack you.

After reading what the glyph's had to say about Arachnut John put the device in his pocket and looked at the other items. When he got to the rectangular device he pressed the power button just to see what happens.

Keno places the lid back on his pot and zips up his pack. He is curious if Jakar has followed this path already, so he makes a lap around the room, lifiting lids and peering in each one. He assumes each will hold similar contents, but if what the message said was true, one would be empty, a clear sign Jakar has been here. He skips the two infront of John and Jason for obrious reasons. As he searches he notes the glyphs on each and is activly not reaching in or taking anything. Keno believed that each trainer was meant to have one pot, and had a fear that greed would be their undoing in the trial.
"Izzy, you sould pick one and take the contents, i think it's our next step. It's got potions, a phone and other stuff that was clearly placed here, even if the pots themselves are older. There are still plenty to choose from."

John, when your smart phone turns on, it lets out a jingle as a spinning pokeball logo appears with a red background. A voice says, "Hello, new trainer, I am Dexter, your personal assistant! I was programmed by Professor Oak and mass produced by the Sylph Company to meet all your needs on your journey. I currently have several apps installed that may be of use to you. I have a Pokedex, Town Map, browsing capabilities, text messages, video phone, and voicemail. If you want to add more to my programming, please access the app store!"
Keno, you find one pot out of place. In fact, it's been smashed. Shards of clay litter the floor.

From the breif he had to Jakar, keno thinks, 'well, that seems typical, Turos in a china shop.'
Keno squats down and gets to work puzzle piecing the glyph back together.

Izzy frowns at Keno's "command" and points out the Taillow who are now starting to be visible at the mouths to their nests. "I figured one of us might want to not be distracted if we got attacked from all sides," she counters drily, still not moving towards the pots, but pointing at the one with the Bulbasaur. "I'll be selecting that one before we leave. Bulbasaur have dual-Types, and so more weaknesses than most other Starters, but they learn a few useful Moves to help in recruiting more Pokémon." She shrugs, "Plus, we might still be able to return to try for a Poliwag or Squirtle. Not much a Fire Type's good against that a Grass, Fighting or Flying Type can't deal with."

Jason watches in awe as John's device comes alive with flashes of lights and photos when he pushed the center button. Jason eagerly pushes down on his, hoping that it would do something similar. If what they were thinking was true, that insides the pots where their very own starter Pokemon then Jason couldn't wait to see what this little guy was all about.

Keno, you quickly put the glyph back together and see something strange about it. It looked like a crudely drawn skull with one eye socket. For some reason, it didn't seem to fit the theme of the rest of the glyphs in this entire cave. Jason, the same thing happens to your device without you having to press anything. This one had red lights flashing in the disk and the name, "Smink", scrolled across along with its information. John, as you approach the door, you hear a lout "SNAP" before the wooden door slams shut in front of your face. The room becomes alive as a swarm of taillow fly out of their nests and fly in a chattering circle above all of you.
The pokemon certainly looked a little diffrent from their other regional counterparts. Their plumage had gray-blue upperparts, brown-tangerine cheeks and throats, and pure white bellies. The tail feathers were completely short, void of the familiar twin points of regular ones.

Upon hearing the door slam, and seeing the display of the birds, Keno retreats to the slammed door, placing his back against the wall next to it.
"Could be another display of nature," he said, despite retrieving a second pester ball and holding one in each hand. If the birds were in fact peaceful he would wait and watch, if they were angry and tried an assault, they would get a blast of pester ball.

Izzy watches with an utter lack of surprise as the flock swarms upward as one of the Applicants tries to leave without checking with anyone else. She does blink when she spots the culprit at the door. "I would have pegged that sort of thing as 'Keno-esque'," she offers in a dry done before stepping forward to crouch beside her chosen pot. She moves carefully, ignoring all but the Urn and opening that swiftly, holding it between herself and the thickest part of the flock. "Sorry..." she whispers to the creature she hopes might appear, "I know you're not the strongest against the Flying Types."

"No time to be pointin' any blame," Jason says to Izzy in John's defense before turning back to the device in his hand. He quickly monkeys with it further hoping the Smink would emerge-- they could use all the extra help quieting down this swarm of birds. He didn't think the four of them had enough pester balls between them.
Focus check to work the device under the threat of Tailows.

Izzy, you find your device has green tourmaline with darker spots that look like those of a bulbasaur as you pull it out of the pot. Jason, you play with the device to the point to where you accidentally twist the circular panel with the glyph and the device seems to split open at the seams, revealing flashing red lights. The word, "READY!", scrolled across the disk. Keno, you can't seem to read the actions of the taillow very well. When one takes you by surprise and flies toward you, you press the central button on the pester ball and its clear chambers fill with blue fluid. In your haste, you try to throw it, only to have it slip out of your grip and landing in front of your feet. A thick blue cloud puffs in your face.

After a brief pause, out of shock from the door slamming on him John pulled out the strange device and the electronic box. And looked both items over to see if there was a way to activate them or if he missed anything.

Keno is about to find out if pester balls work on humans. He slides down the wall to sit, if he was going to fall asleep, he wanted to midigate fall damage, especialy to the face. He covered his mouth with one arm and coughed, while swatting at the blue smoke with the other. He waited for his vision to clear or go black.

Izzy does spare a glance in Keno's direction at the puff of blue smoke, but considering how he reacted to any of her attempts to assist him so far, she feels it's best to ignore it. They're not Poisoning Balls, after all.
Instead, she looks at the item before her and tries to figure out how exactly she's supposed to summon the Bulbasaur which might be contained within. "One has to wonder exactly what was wrong with PokéBalls..." she mutters, hunching her shoulders and trying not to attract the attention of the mutated Taillow flock.

Keno, your eyes grow heavy as you pass out into a deep sleep. Izzy while under stress from the actions of the others, you find that remembering anything about this device has been made more difficult for you. Meanwhile the taillow attempt to spot your hiding place

John, you get as far as twisting the glyph on your device to get it ready, but can't figure out what it wants you to do next.

John, not knowing what to do begins mashing buttons. "Come on Arachnut I need your help!" he stated in frustration as he watch one of his newly found friends crumple from a pester ball.

John, you play with the device until you feel the raised circular piece click in your hands and it bursts into a pile of green leaves. Under it, you find yourself holding a green apricorn.
