Oh so skitty did want the delicious berry? Hmm. Guess it could have it since Jane was such a nice and generous person! But it would have to come over here to get it so she could pet it in exchange. (Hopefully this one didn't have fleas!) Come kitty come!

Skitty is still playing it safe, but...that berry is sorely tempting. It slowly saunters over, making sure to move agonizingly slow. As soon as it's in range, and Jane sets down the berry, it grabs said berry in its mouth and scampers out of reach! It doesn't quite run away, but it definitely is teasing Jane by sitting just out of reach of pets.

Hmh! Tricksy cat? Well Jane knows one or two of those herself...
First she reached out as far as she could just to try an pet the cat, falling short of course. Oh no! She flailed a bit but she was just so hopelessly out if reach.
She continued to desperately try but she just couldn't!
However! Sneaky as she were she was stealthily inching closer and at the same time pulled her arm back a little, pretending to not move at all. Then - suddenly - she would reach out and pet the skitty! Hopefully.

A worthy adversary! Jane squinted at the skitty to see if she can't spot a weakness in its defence. One she could exploit to get some petting in!

At this point, the leisurely consumption of the Bluk berry is about halfway done. Once it has finished, it will likely end its little game of "cat and Jane".

She released Ana the Serperior on a safe distance from the Skitty and petted the leaf snake instead. She appreciates it at least! See how comfy and happy she looks? With her morning having been pretty uneventful, Maeve had allowed herself to indulge in some childish glee at her success the previous night; after a difficult fight, the young woman had earned her third badge in the Kanto region, bringing herself another step forward. Alas, she still hadn't been able to register a flight license, so her trip continued on foot. It was ironic really, a dragon tamer being grounded despite having a fully flight-capable dragon, but there was nothing she could do for the time being. Without even realizing it, her legs had carried her all the way to Saffron City's southern gates in only half a day. Pretty good time considering she hadn't been rushing. Perhaps after a stop at the Pokémon Center...
Out of the corner of her eye, Maeve caught a peculiar sight: a trainer who appeared to be trying to convince a Skitty that it wanted to be petted by the trainer by petting another pokémon. "Excuse me miss," Maeve began, "but what are you doing?"

Hmm... Jane thought to herself as she observed the Skittys last move. I don't think liking Ana would help ... But what's next instead? she pondered. Well, it didn't look like it would be a Skitty.
"Oh? Hmm -" Jane looked up at the newcomer. Ana the Serperiour did too, if only to see why the petting had faltered. With a rapidly crumpling façade of a straight face Jane replied. "Well, I'm cat-fishing obviously! ... Trying at least! Only problem is I forgot the line and the hook doesn't work. But other then that it's all great!"

Skitty's fur bristles suddenly as something touches on its mind/spirit. Is it a Psychic Pokemon?! No, wait... a human? Skitty stops grooming itself and peers suspiciously at this human. As far as it knows, humans can't do what she's doing? Is she a Lucario in disguise or something?!

This is only temporary," she says softly before motioning towards the girl who'd given the Skitty the berry. "I think she wants to talk to you about something. I'll tell her what you say and explain anything she says that you don't understand. That way there's no misunderstandings. Is that okay?"

"Hmh." Jane bit her lip to contain a laugh. She should probably have expected this, especially from a cat. Probably. She hadn't expected someone to actually talk to the pkmn and ask though! "Well, does the 'Skitty God' want to be groomed or is feeding it enough of a tribute?"
"And what about you? What are you doing out here, besides being a vessel of the divine?" That talent certainly wasn't something one would see often, though Jane wasn't sure if the other girl/woman was bulkshitting or not. Regardless it was entertaining!

The Almighty Skitty God considers for a moment. Perhaps these humans can be useful after all. There is the one that is somehow able to talk to it (Skitty is still not convinced it isn't a Lucario in disguise), and the other one that seeks its blessing. Yes, yes, this could be good. It wouldn't have to work as hard to stay clean or collect food. Not that charming humans out of their berries is difficult, the silly humans are practically begging her to take the berries off their hands. Finally, it actually responds by saying that it will allow the other human (Jane) to groom it; though she'd best do a satisfactory job lest she be smote by the Almighty Skitty God.

Maeve chuckles softly for a moment before informing Jane that she has been granted permission to groom the Skitty, but also "warns" her that if she doesn't do a good enough job, the Skitty will "smite" her.
