"See you there! I'll PM Riley and see if she want to come along too!"
---
Jane looked at the time. 15:59:50. Still a liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiitle bit time left! She had just thought that she ought to stop by the pokécenter before she went exploring. And the mart. And ... She could see the entrance in the distance! Yeah!
At about five minutes late Jane arrived, panting heavily. It takes her another minute or so to compose herself before she is ready to talk. "Sorry sorry!" She starts and looks around, realizing that Riley hasn't showed up yet. Weird. Maybe she didn't want to come? She hadn't replied either ... Maybe she was just busy. Yeah. "So! Should we start and head straight for level two?"

"Absolutely!" Selena proclaims with a smile. "I think this time, we're going to go all the way in! So let's hit the road!"

"One down!" Salena proclaims with a smile. "OH! Before I forget though, Jane. Would you like to hold onto the stone for the next few days? I just realized I'll be working with Nakelya the next few days, so I wouldn't be able to bring it up to Pewter."
Saying this, she drags out the stone and prepares to offer it towards Jane. But that's when she notices something. Her eyes grow wide.
Oh no. Oh no.

Raven looks over at Salena holding the Odd Keystone. "Why do you still have that thing with you? I thought we had just established that it was a dangerous, soul-stealing item? What in the hell possessed you to just carry it along, even knowing that?"

"W-well I just can't leave it hanging around just anywhere either!" Salena retorts. "That's just as dangerous! If anyone else were to find it, who knows how much damage could be caused!"
She drops the stone onto the ground beside her in a light panic. Walking up to one of the downed Wigglytuff's, she places a pair of fingers on the neck of a nearby Wigglytuff. Oh no. Oooh nooo.

"Granted, but are you going to tell me there was absolutely nobody you could trust it with while we go spelunking in Rock Tunnel? Like, I don't know, your parents? A Gym Leader? Somebody?! I'm glad I didn't let Natalie faint, else that thing might have stolen her soul as well."
Raven sighs.
"I'm sorry, Salena, that's unfair of me. Let's go back up to the surface and see if we can't find somebody in town who can help us. If not, we can take it to the Saffron Gym Leader, since they're the closest, and they can use their resources to deal with it."

"The tags aren't working?" Jane notes sheepishly. Damn. She had really counted on those and sent the whole issue to the back of her mind. Clearly that would have been too easy. Sitting down she considers their options. "Yeah, if the seals aren't working, I don't think we'd want to carry it everywhere." But on the other hand just giving it away seemed like giving up. And Jane didn't want to give up! "Hmm. What if we placed it in a bank vault or something? I'd be hesitant to bring it around any gym - you know fainting pokémon and all. Maybe ... When we found it I was thinking of going on a trawler or something. That way it would fill up - and wouldn't be dangerous anymore. But I'm not even sure about imprisoning fish-souls ..."

Salena's face falls ashen she removes her finger from the Wigglytuff's neck.
Yep. Dead. Stone cold, dead.
The fact that it was dead surprisingly didn't bother her that much. When she thought about it, that kind of made sense. Most of her Pokémon, for all intents and purposes, were already dead. Ghosts were like that. Then there was another fact. When most wild Pokémon goes into a battle, some part of them has to accept the eventuality that their actions may lead to their death. The circle of life- eventually, they were destined to die. Everyone was. Of course, you do avoid wanting to kill someone's trusted partner. But no one bats an eye at Magikarp on the dinner table or Tauros steak.
But imprisoning a soul, even on accident, drew up a great stone and thrust it on Salena's stomach. It denied them the right of passage to the world beyond and trapped them here on earth. Mr. Fuji, Ms. Christie, Mr. Verne; they were all here because they wanted to remain. The Pokémon they killed weren't given that choice.
"No. Y-you're not wrong. I didn't realize that the stone was this powerful. I thought that I had sealed it well enough; that it had gained souls because we were in Lavender Town. I didn't know that... The seal wasn't strong enough. That it could take a soul from a Pokémon that isn't even dead."
She rises up shakily. The truth made her sick. But she couldn't run away from it either. It only be used to break her spirit or galvanize her resolve. She decided then to choose the latter. "But... I can't just it let it be like this. That would be... Unforgiveable."
"There's got to be another way to make use of the stone. Something that doesn't result in so many souls being trapped for no reason. Something that... Provides a choice, rather than an inevitability."

"... oh." Well that wasn't good. With a frown Jane concluded. "Well we can't really continue on with this. Let's head outside before we run into more pokémon ...

The group quickly heads back up to the surface, encountering no resistance on the way out. Once outside, Raven turns to the others.
"Alright, so now that we're out, what exactly is the plan? Are we taking it to Saffron's Gym Leader? Somebody else? Dumping it in the deepest, darkest hole we can find and calling it done?"

"I think... I think you have the right idea." Salena admits finally. "I think, the only person truly qualified to hold onto such a dangerous thing would be a Gym Leader. It doesn't mean that I want to give up on helping the souls trapped inside... But it's better this way. That way, there are no more accidents. When we're ready to do... Something to it, we can always ask to have it back. Because when we do ask for it back, we're gonna have a plan. A-and it's going to be a good one!"

"Right. We'll travel to Saffron tonight so as not to waste any time, and speak with the Leader in the morning. If you left anything in your room at the Center, go get it now if you don't want to leave it behind."
After everyone has acquired any remaining belongings from the Pokemon Center, Raven meets them just outside of Lavender Town on Route 8. Then she leads the way back to Saffron City and heads right to bed when they reach Saffron's Pokemon Center.

During their hurried travel to Saffron Jane wondered what they really should be doing with the stone on a long-term basis. It was a bit tempting to hide it somewhere remote, but there was always that risk that someone clueless would find it purely by chance. We wouldn't want that would we. she thought sarcastically to herself. That could have really bad consequences and end up with more souls being imprisoned in the rock! Bleh. Wonder how many time that cycle had repeated itself?
When they get to Saffron Jane makes a quick detour to see if the dep.store is open and have any Bulk berries laying around. Then she too heads towards the center and a bed!

Salena is only willing to sleep in the Pokémon Center with great reluctance. Gah! Everything would have been much safer to keep it in Lavender Town for just one more night. But she did need sleep, so she horked the stone into the farthest corner of the room and practically smothered it in cleanse tags. There! Cleanse tags didn't stack of course and they weren't working anyways, but any port in a storm.
Since Mrs. Christie had been awake with her all day, she releases Mr. Fuji from his ball and asks him to keep a vigil on the stone. If something did happen, she wanted to know immediately. Mr. Fuji nodded solemnly. Yep.
He got this.

The next morning, Salena wakes up. At least, she thinks she does. It's very dark, and she has this weird feeling that there is something else in the room with her. Strangely, she can't see her hands in front of her face. Or anything at all. Wait.. that's not right. It's then that Salena notices the other 'voices' all around her, and the fact that not only can she not see anything, she can't feel anything either! Oh no... did the stone somehow steal her soul as well?! AHHHHHH!!!
Suddenly, Salena sits bolt upright in bed, practically screaming in mortal terror. A concerned Mr. Fuji is floating nearby, looking at her. Phew.. just a terrifying nightmare. That's all.

Waking up after a surprisingly blissful sleep, probably due to exhaustion, Jane yawns and then slowly gets dressed. After a generous helping of the complimentary breakfast (that didn't seem to serve any Bluk Berries - shame! That could have saved her a bit of money) she heads outside so she can train her team and some future substitutes. Augmented by bribes for the Hoothoot the session goes well. Hopefully Raven and Lavenders mornings would also be this peaceful and they would soon show up to join her!

Her fingers shake, clutching the rim of her sheets with ice-cold knuckles. This. This was far worse than the birds. She sits there for a long while, just staring at the walls. Then she gets up.
Ok. It was just a dream. She was alive. Mr. Fuji was alive. Everyone was alive.
She gets up to greet the morning sun after affirming that the stone was inactive for the night. Good. Skipping breakfast, she made her way outside and did some light training alongside of her Pokémon and to seek food elsewhere. After a while, she spots Jane outside and goes to greet her. "H-hey. Morning. Everything good last night?"

"Mm, I slept like a stone." Jane confirms with a grin and turns to Lavender. "Yesterday was exhausting, so I don't think I had any energy left to dream."
Hmm? Jane started to notice that Lavender didn't look exactly bright and full of energy. Almost like she had seen a ghost - though actually that was probably a really poor comparison considering the pokémon Lavender seemed to love ... Anyhow!
"Are you okay? You look a bit pale..." Her tone rapidly transition firmly into 'worried'. "Did something happen?"

Raven and her team jog over to the others, having just finished a circuit around Saffron that started in the pre-dawn hours. Not wanting to interrupt the conversation, she just quietly recalls everyone and heads inside the Center to get cleaned up.

"Oh, it's nothing!" Lies Salena brazenly."No need to get worried or stoned or anything else like that. I just a had a little trouble sleeping. That's all!"
