"Ugh. Freaking birds." Salena casts one more side long glare at the birds. They were... One of the reasons Salena didn't like staying here too long. Volunteering and having fun was all fine and dandy, but sometimes she just couldn't help but feel uncomfortable. Gah! Never mind that. There was nostalgia to be had! The door to the Ghost Enclosure still had the funny little sign reading 'Please close me!!' that she had written up years ago. Ghosts were crafty. The room had been sealed by one of the employees, but every once and a while, someone would carelessly let the door just hang on open and let the Ghosts do as they please. Usually, that meant scaring the Normal or the Fairy Types. They were the easiest targets after all.~
But since Salena knew better, she closes the door and makes certain that it is closed.
As a full disclosure, she wasn't really planning on taking any home. But, maybe it would be nice to have an older Pokémon visit to sort of coach or inspire some of the younglings. That was her goal for today. So, without further ado...
"Come on out guys, I know you're there! I'm going to teach you guys a few things!"

Dunsparce slowly comes back out and looks up at Jane.
"Sparce?" it queries, likely curious if she wants to spend time with it (or take it home).
~~~
As expected for the middle of the day, most of the Ghosts are asleep. A few do become visible, if only to see what's going on.
Carefully Jane tries to pet the Dunsparce. It didn't seem overly shy, just a bit careful. But that was okay. She wasn't in a hurry. And this was certainly better then getting quacked at by a gaggle of ducks! (Though she had to admit the Suicune sighting had probably been more exciting - but she wasn't really sure if she could handle more of that excitement today.) "I'm Jane." she introduced herself as she continued to try and pet the weird pokémon. "What are you doing down here on the floor?"
"Dun!" it proclaims, enjoying the attention quite a bit. As a "not-so-attractive" Pokemon, Dunsparce often aren't even captured in the Wild, let alone kept as pets. Seems like it will happily let you keep on petting it. That being said, Dunsparce are burrowers, usually living in places like Dark Cave in Johto, so on the ground is likely where it enjoys being.
"Well I think you are cute!" Jane confesses as she continues to pet the weird snake, thinking about her options. It *was* cute. And she *could* probably find a spot on her team for it occasionally. Besides - one could have a pokémon just for petting right? Right! she decided. Slowly and carefully, on the lookout for any signs of discomfort, she tried to lift the Dunsparce so she could carry it around. "I hope you are not afraid of a little height..."
Then, regardless if she managed to lift the little snake or not, she looked around to see if there were any pokémon that seemed bothered by this process. She certainly wouldn't want to take away someones friend! (At least not when she could use that as an excuse to adopt two cute pokémon ...) Oh and I should say hi to that Hoothoot too! I hope it is friendly ... and that Lavender doesn't mind!
The nearly 5ft long "snake" proves about as heavy as expected. Nothing too troublesome, but still more than one would like to carry constantly. No other Pokemon seem especially bothered by you giving it attention.
"Erp. You looked so much smaller under the chair!" Jane chuckled and tried to figure out to hold the Dunsparce in a good way. Eventually she settled for wrapped over her shoulders and into her arms. Sorta. Luckily she asn't expecting any hard physical activity.
Content that she had at least found one cool pokémon to adopt Jane wandered over to the Hoothoot to say hi. But just before that - take a look to see if the owl pokémon was even awake!
The hoothoot is, in fact, awake. It looks at you questioningly.
"Hi there!" she said to the Hoothoot. It seemed unlikely that it would respond, but why stop talking to pokémon now? Carefully she untangled one of her arms from the Dunsparce and slowly reached out to the Hoothoot. She would like to pet this one too - but since it hadn't initiated contact she was careful. "Let's see if you are friendly as well..."
Hoothoot puffs itself up and screeches at you. Apparently it doesn't want to be touched.
Jane retracts her arm and apologizes. "Sorry if I startled you! Just wanted to say hi. I'm Jane and I'm looking around for a pokémon or two to adopt." She waits around a little to see if the bird calms down a bit now when she didn't touch it. Maybe it would be curious? Or simply ignore her ... At the very least how it acted "normally" might give her a hint or two if adoption would be a good fit!
...
After spending ten minutes or so with the Hoothoot to try and figure out if they were a good fit (or shorter, if the bird made it clear that it was a poor idea!) Jane heads towards the desk to inquire a bit on the whole adoption thing general and about the two pokémon that caught her eye as well. "So I'm thinking of adopting this adorable Dunsparce and maybe that Hoothoot. How would the process work? And can you tell me a bit about them?"
Hoothoot does calm down when you stop trying to touch it. Beyond that, it acts like you'd imagine a lot of owl Pokemon would act: aloof and possibly haughty (traits which are also characteristic of psychics, darks, and cats).
The guy at the desk is happy to see that Sparce-acus is getting adopted. Most people dislike Dunsparce, preferring cute cats or other, smaller Pokemon. Melincamp, the Hoothoot, needs to be bribed for its affections. Unfortunately, they are out of its favorite treat right now: Bluk Berries. You could probably buy a package of them in Saffron or Celadon's department store.
To adopt, all you need do is fill out some paperwork (including, but not limited to: full legal name, place of residence (or mark 'wandering trainer'), etc) and pay a small fee. The total fee for both of them (including 25% discount for multi-adoption) is 1901 PYen.
"Uhum mhm." Jane mumbles to herself as she reads trough the paperwork, trying not to choke when she sees the wicked word "fee". Luckily it wasn't much. Still more then what she had right now though! "All right!" She excused herself. "I'll just head over to the pokécenter real quick and make some space in my team, then I'll come back and complete this. See ya in a moment!"
Then she shoots a brief message to Lavender (and Raven - if she had her nr yet ...) and hurries away to the pokémon center, with a little detour to the mart. She returns quickly, with a somewhat ragged breath (maybe she should join Raven on those jogging tours?) and completes the form and presents the fee. Hopefully no-one would have stolen her two marks away from her in this short moment!
Jane finds that both of her adoptions have been placed in poke balls, and are waiting for her.
Hoothoot is level 20, Female, Desperate, with Keen Eye and Insomnia.
Dunsparce is level 19, Male, Hasty, with Run Away.
"Oh geeze.... How am I an Ace again?" Salena mutters quietly to herself. Gah! She had gotten so used to her Pokémon adjusting to her schedule that she completely forgot that normal ghosts are sleeping right about now. Well, no matter!
"You guys are good, just get some rest. Sorry for waking you up." She says quietly. Salena makes her way to the door, and if not stopped, will slip back out into the House proper.
The ghosts seem content to go back to sleep. The house is just the same as you left it, save for Jane filling out adoption paperwork for a Dunsparce and a... BIRD! EVIL, NASTY BIRDS! A CURSE ON THEIR KIND! *cough*
"Oh hi there!" Jane cheered when she saw Lavender emerging from the ghost-room. "I'm adopting these two; the Hoothoot seems a bit on the edge but the Dunsparce is really sweet. Want to say hi?" She lifts up the head end of the Dunsparce so that he can see Lavender. "I'm thinking that I should get some training matches in, but should we meet up later today - hopefully Riley will come around - and talk about our next move?"
"Nyaaaah, of course you got an owl." Salena says absent mindedly. She stands now a good five feet away from the odious creature. "They aren't bad, as far as birds go, but you did a lot better with the Dunsparce. Nobody seems to want to train those little guys. I mean, I'm one of those kind of people too but..."
She shakes her head. No matter!
"Anyways. You feel free to have some battles. I'm still hoping to get one last dive into Rock Tunnel before work begins with Nakelya later tonight. Hopefully, Riley comes back by then." Indeed. That was a pretty big hopefully. Salena felt like she had seen her earlier, but now that part of her memory was becoming just a bit hazy. Ah well. It was probably nothing major if she couldn't remember it!
"Yeah ..." Jane considered their plans. Dungeoning late in the evening sounded a bit sketchy. On the other hand - the sun wouldn't really matter down in a cave. "Sure! Why not? See you around four outside the tunnel?"
"Sounds good to me!"
---
At three forty-five in the evening, Salena woke up from her nap and rushed back out the door to Rock Tunnel. Can't be late, can't be late, ah! There we are! She meets at the appointed spot on time and waits for her other companions to show up.
