Salena answered the best that she could; giving an almost itemized account of her belongings, but what was also admittedly sketchy, portrait of the thief involved. She was... Bad at names and faces and this was hardly an ideal situation. The situation had shot her nerves considerably, and at this point she was would be mostly just be happy to see her bag back at all. Luckily, unless the thief was stupid enough to return to the scene of the crime, she'd at least have that. Eventually...

Salena's bag is, in fact, right where she left it. The thief only took stuff out of it. The officer definitely helps her to stay calm, despite her frazzled nerves. They escort her to the precinct long enough for her to give a rough description of the thief before letting her go with the promise that someone will look into it, and she'll be informed if they manage to get her stuff back.

"I kind of doubt that..." Salena mutters, once she's safely outside of the doors of the precinct's lobby. These had not been a good couple of days. She could count her good luck that she didn't lose either the key stone or any of her battling items. But that knowledge did little to blunt the violation she felt; of someone holding a knife to her throat, of having her things stolen.
Of her not being able to do a dang thing about it.
She pulls her hands through her hair, sits down on bench, and sobs relentlessly. It was going to be a bit before she was ready to do much else.

It had been a while later. As she wipes the last tears from her face, a certain feeling of determination entered her heart. Something like this wasn't going to happen again. Ever. She flipped open the Pokédex, checked the time, and grimaced. It was nearly past the appointed time of meeting, so it was unlikely that she was going to be able to make it. Then again, she was hardly in the mood anyways. She types out a quick message. Hey. Sorry, something came up. Feel free to still head towards Lavender Town after the ranch. I just got a bit of business to take care of. The Pokédex case claps shut with a clink. Her finger presses down upon it's volume; knocking it all the way down to zero. They were probably going to text back. She was probably going to respond. But right now, her mind was set with a single purpose. Salena got up and she walked to the Celadon City Gym.

The Gym is as 'inviting' as ever, with whatever system they have in place alerting them to the identity of anyone approaching (so they know whether or not to haze them). Entering the Gym, Salena sees a few semi-familiar faces milling about. Leader Nalkeya is the only one whose name she actually knows, however, as Atropa seems to not be present.

Salena didn't waste much time. If she hesitated now, she sincerely that she had either the will or the strength to go through this. Do, she stepped try through the door, past the faces of trainers known and unknown and stopped before their leader.
Salena bows politely, and then says "Miss Gym Leader Nalkeya, do you have a second? I want to ask you something."

Nalkeya turns when she hears her name. "Oh hey, it's the Wick-e Witch! Just call me 'Nalkeya', no need for shmancy titles or formalities. What's up?"

Salena allows herself to smile. In spite of her reservations, Nalkeya's lackadaisical manner was doing wonders for her mood. "I'll try to remember that in the future. It would be rather Wicke'd if I didn't." She says, brushing away a few idle hairs with her hand in an attempt to look cool. She failed of course and broke into snickers instead. She smiles and adds, "My mom always said I was a bit too polite sometimes."
She shakes the cobwebs from her head. "A-anyways. I didn't come here to talk about that. I was wondering if... If there was there was an opening, that I might..."
She closes her eyes. Big breath. "Would it be ok if I joined your Gym? At least, for a little while."

"Hmm. Well now, I'm not opposed to the idea or anything, but I gotta ask: why the sudden interest?"

Jane looked at the latest message. Oh I hope she wasn't taken by the police again ... But it didn't seem overly stressed, so she figured it was probably fine. She frowned. Though she had wanted to have both her new friends with her in the Rock Tunnel - just because. Ah well the best laid plans and all that! With a small shrug she typed a reply and then glanced at the time, figuring she'd have time to swing by the pokémart before meeting at least Riley at the Ranch. Okey-dokie! Smell ya later then. We'll make sure to save some Zubats for you : )

Salena considers the idea for a moment, then answers."Well... For one, I like the theme of the Gym. Tricks, deception, the only thing you guys are short on is smoke and mirrors! Then, I also think you are kind of nice. A bit weird, maybe, but weird isn't a bad thing. And, nobody has ever shown me a hot tub before, so that's a thing."
She bit her lip. "But, if I'm being fully honest, it's because I got robbed this morning."

"Ahh, I see. You figured you'd just pop in, get a temp job to earn some cash, then quit, right?" At first, Nalkeya's tone implies that she doesn't appreciate this "I'm just going to use you and lose you" attitude, then she cracks a smile and whaps you on the back.
"My kinda girl! See? I knew you'd see the appeal soon enough. Well, let's get you all signed up and legal then, eh? Serious question first though: You gonna quit seeking the League for a steady job, or are you still planning to try and push your way to the top? I wouldn't blame you for the former, ya know."

Ow. Backwhaps... Hurt.
"I'm not quitting the League." She says quickly. "And, I'm not much of a mercenary... It's more like... Atropa fights really well. So, if you're stronger than Atropa, I was hoping you might be able to work with me to find a method of self-defense that works. If I can find a way to actually fight instead of just flailing Pester Balls around, then I want to stop flailing with pester balls and put the next red-headed stepchild who pulls a knife on me in the gutter."
She claps a hand to her mouth, appalled at her self. "Ah! Sorry! Don't tell my mom I said that... Ok?

"Hmmm. Well, I don't think Atropa could help you on that front anyway. Our styles are almost opposites. You're much closer to me anyway, so it works out. We'll make a ninja out of you yet, girl."
As she leads you to the office for 'boring papework', she makes sure you know that even as a part timer, you're (legally) required to work at least three days a week. Now, how one defines 'work' is up to Nalkeya as Gym Leader, but since you've expressed an interest in learning self-defense, ninja-style, she figures it will be less about taking on challengers and more personal training under Nalkeya. Which days you come in are up to you, so long as you come in at least three out of seven.

Riley checks her dex. Hmm, so Lavender isn't coming? No problem! We'll let you know how the meeting with the tutor goes. Hope everything's alright! ~R "EXCUSE ME-" someone suddenly shoves rudely past Riley and boards the bus. Deeply irritated and perturbed, Riley realizes that she's been holding up the line. She takes a deep breath and steps onto the bus that'll take her to her pokemon ranch, seething. After a subsequently easy bus ride, Riley arrives at her ranch. The breeze whips at her hair and she just basks in the sun and the waving-grassy hills. Something moves out of the corner of her eye- it's a ponyta running around! Riley runs after it, laughing, and spends the next few minutes playing with the pokemon there. She releases all of her team to play as well, stopping to introduce Buddy the Pichu to Drake so he can begin his warrior training. Apparently, Drake believes that the most important starting point is a good stick, so they wander off in search of a suitable weapon for the pichu. Now it's almost the appointed time to meet the tutor. Riley shoots a message to Jane. Hey Jane, the tutor's almost here! Where are ya? ~R

Oh I'll be riiiiiight there! She wasn't of course. She had wandered into the local pokémart, hypnotized by the possibilities afforded by her recent lucky streak. And now she was going to be late! She showed up at the ranch some twenty minutes later, obviously short on breath. "Ah-ah-ah ..." Jane panted and waved at Riley. "Hi Riley! I ah I hope I didn't miss the meeting?" She quickly looked around at the ranch, but could only see Riley and her pokémon.

Riley waves to Jane. "Hey! Good to see you. For now, it's just us- the tutor's still got a few minutes to show. Hold on, let me check." She reaches into her pocket, glancing at Drake and Buddy, who apparently has found a stick! They're swinging their weapons in "repeat after me" fashion, and Buddy looks like he's taking this very seriously. Grinning, she checks her messages from the tutor. No messages?? Now frowning, Riley sends a message to the tutor to make sure everything's going as planned. Hello,
We're here to meet you at the ranch. Have you arrived yet?
-Riley

A few seconds later, Riley receives a weird auto-message in response, saying that the address isn't valid. "What the heck?" she says, checking the website to see if she'd gotten the number wrong. "Ooooh. Apparently I was wrong about how this works. We just order the service online, nobody's actually meeting up with us. Dammit!" she laughs and thinks for a moment. "Well, I'll just order it now, then." She proceeds to pay 1000 poke for Riot to be trained in the move Ancientpower (she's read in an online pokeblog about swinub, "Quit Your Swining," that this does wonders for piloswine development). After the order is put through, Riley turns to Jane. "Oookay so I guess we kind of came here for nothing but whatevs! Anything else you wanna do?"

Dash, dash, dash, JUMP. Dash, dash, dash, JUMP.
"WHEEEEHeeeeheheeehahahaaaaaaaaaa! WHEEEEEEE!!!"
Salena sprints down the Route 7, hopping to nearly obscene heights every time she does so. Was this some kind of training? Maybe. But really she was just having fun. About her waist and upper arms, Mr. Verne has a tight, clothy grip. The balloon's expression was as dour as ever, but he was slowly starting to warm up to his trainer. Not that he'd ever admit it of course.
The meeting with Nalkeya went well! After a little bit of paperwork, Salena was all signed up and ready to go. After explaining her meeting situation with Riley and Jane, she was allowed to take off for two days. After that of course, she'd have to book it back to Celadon City for training. Which, was a good thing! She couldn't say for certain how well the training would go, but at the very least it was going to hopefully result in her having a sharper and astute mind for battling and the ninja arts.
It was not her... Expected course of action, but at the same time, she could see how someone like her could benefit from said training. Most her Pokémon levitated anyways, so they didn't exactly fear spikes being littered all over the battle field. In the meantime, one of the girls said that she could use some better looking legs. So, yes! Training! Wheeeeeeee!
After a bit, the pair arrive at the ol' Underground Path. Apparently, it used to be a good way of getting to Route 8 quickly! Hopefully it was still open.

"Oh ..." Jane deflated a bit. She really had expected to meet some sort of Mentor - this ranch meeting was turning out a lot less crowded then she had thought! Maybe she wouldn't have needed to stuffed her pockets quite so full of pilfered sandwiches? Ah hindsight twenty twenty and so on!
"I might as well get some tutoring done as well!" Jane releases her newly evolved Diggersby and then takes her turn ordering some services after Riley. Something that might help her deal with the upcoming poison gym she hoped! And then ...
"What about lunch?" she offered as a suggestion as to what to do. She sets down her pack and reveals that it seems to be filled with remnants of the complimentary pokécenter breakfast. With an "oh and!" Jane starts to dig trough the food until she reaches the small box that contained her completed and work-in-progress projects. There's a lot of junk in there but also a pair of shiny gems that seems to reflect all the colours of the rainbow. She picks up one of them and hands Riley. "It's a Rainbow Gem! I made one for you and Lavender ... I guess I'll have to give it to her later. Oh anyhow! It's like a Focus but you can change the type really easy! Hang on and I'll show you ..."
Jane shows off a quick invocation and realignment of the gem's faces that seemingly slightly alter the sheen, though only someone with a bit of familiarity with occult stuff (need Expert Occult Edu to change it!) would pick up how to actually tell the various modes apart. Then she hands it over to Riley. "Take good care of it! Oh and I have a Sp.Atk Booster too if you want!"
