Then after eating some sandwiches (her Flareon Teus seemed more then happy to help!) and letting her pokémon, both those in her team and on the ranch, play a bit Jane felt ready to move on. "Let's head to the Rock Tunnel! We might not want to explore it fully without Lavender, but we can still look around a bit while we are heading to the Lavender Town!"

After thanking Jane heartily for the gifts, Riley requests her new rainbow gem to be tuned for helping her focus on (physically) attacking. When the girls are finished eating, Riley helps pack up the picnic things and then takes a moment to look down at the breathtaking gem hanging around her neck. It's scintillates brilliantly in the sun, and Riley can't help but wonder if it'll distract passers-by on the street. "Hmmm. Better keep a low profile..." she mutters as she tucks the gem under her shirt, just in case.
Then, after saying goodbye to all her friends at the ranch (including a swift peck on Buddy's forehead, dodging the pichu's earnest sword exercises), our heroes Riley and Jane take the bus back to Cerulean to visit the Rock Tunnel!

Having found the entrance to the Underground Tunnel, and finding it closed, Lavender huffs and realizes that this was getting nowhere. According to the GPS, she was closer to Saffron City so... Well! It wouldn't take her too long to reach it.
The young witch continues along in the same manner as usual, until she finally reaches the city. She catches the first bus going to 'Rock Tunnel', presuming that this would mean that quite handily, she would end up by the Lavender Town entrance. Fate of course had other ideas...

Arriving at the Saffron Bus Stop, Salena/Lavender searches the bus schedule for 'Rock Tunnel'. Apparently she was muttering aloud about it as a voice from behind responds.
"There is no bus to Rock Tunnel, you know. If you want to go there, you'll have to walk. Lavender Town itself doesn't even have a stop because its so small still."
Turning around, Salena sees a girl about her age with long, black hair and sharp features. There is a Pikachu riding atop her shoulder, and she is carrying a large book bag.

"There isn't?!? Oh no!" Salena says, scanning the schedule with a panic. Gah! How could she forget that!?
"If I can't reach Lavender Town for Rock Tunnel quickly, what's the other way to get there?" She asks, flipping the schedule sideways as if this might actually help somehow.

"... By walking, of course. That's part of a Trainer's Journey: walking the Routes and seeing the sights. How do you think people got around before mass transit?"
Seeing you flipping the schedule this way and that, the other girl sighs. "You're dressed like you're from or have at least been to Lavender Town, surely you know it's only a few hours away on foot, right?"

"Of course I do!" Salena lies. I mean, she sort of knew but, not really. She sighed and folded up the schedule. "And yeah. It is home, but I haven't really walked out of it before."
She frowns. Well. No, that wasn't true. She had spent a decent amount of time out on the other routes after she had first caught Mr. Fuji. If it wasn't for those explorations, she wouldn't have been able to track, then capture Mr. Verne. But all the way to Saffron? Certainly not! That was too far. It seemed a bit far today too but...
"Well ok. Yeah, that sounds like the only option." Salena sighs. She finally turns to face this newcomer and- OOOOH! "Ah~! A Pikachu! It's soooo cute!!!"

"Heh. Yeah, this is Natalie. She's usually the first thing people notice. She and I have been together since the start of our Journey."
The girl rubs her Pikachu's head affectionately, earning a squeal of delight from the electric mouse.
"So..heading for Lavender Town and Rock Tunnel then, huh? I was thinking of heading there myself to train for my Gym Battle in Fuschia. Mind if I tag along? Talking with Natalie is nice and all, but as I'm not a telepath, I can't fully understand what she says back, despite how close we are."

"I think you'd be surprised! I was able to carry on a pretty intelligent conversation with my Ditto lately. But he's a bit of jerk so... Sure! I'd like the company. It would be cool to get to know each other." Salena replies. "The name is Lavender by the way! It's nice to meet you!"

"Mm. Well, Ditto are a bit of an exception anyway, what with the ability to transform almost flawlessly into anything they can see. Name's Raven. Lets get going then, burning daylight here."

"Right, sure. But along the way, you're going to have to tell me all about yourself, got it?" Salena says.
The pair (hopefully) manage to walk the entire route without any real complications to arrive in Lavender Town that evening. There wasn't a whole lot of daylight left, but perhaps that wouldn't stop them from exploring Rock Tunnel a little bit anyways!~

Raven does answer some questions about herself, but expertly deflects any that pertain to family. Seems she's not too keen to talk about them. Once in Lavender Town, the pair are free to explore wherever they wish. Raven even allows a few of her other Pokemon to come out and walk around with them.

Salena is mostly free to talk about whatever she likes. She avoids telling strange stories that not make sense, but she does recount her journeys thus far and about all of the strange things she had encountered. Only a few subjects are avoided, such as her recent encounter with the police, the robbery, and her own mysterious backstory. But besides that? Well.~
"And that's why I think that it's silly for people don't try to make their own Repels. It's so easy to do, I just don't get why people just don't get it!" She says finally, ending a nearly thirty minute lecture on the need for creating your own self-defense. "Speaking of repels, I think I should probably make up a can or two just in case we need to keep Pokémon from bothering us on the way out. Would you like to meet in front of the Tunnel in about... Thirty minutes?"

"You do realize that not everyone has the know-how to perform chemistry in the first place, let alone craft a safe repel? For most people, it's much easier to simply purchase the supplies from their local Poke Mart."

"Bah! It's all easy enough once you stop burning yourself." Salena jokes half-heartedly. It was a joke... right? At any rate, she pulls out her makeshift cauldron, throws on a gas mask and starts prepping for repels.

Riley and Jane steadily make their way to Lavender Town (and Lavender person). In the Rock Tunnel, Riley can't help but gawk at the extensive network of subterranean caverns, some of which seem to go even deeper into the earth, making her shiver. She absentmindedly clutches Jane's arm (almost painfully). Riley wouldn't easily admit it, but she's terrified of being underground, especially since that incident when she was a little girl and she accidentally phased into a basement wall...it took forever (10 min in actuality) to find her way back through the darkness and the dirt and the worms, finally collapsing in a weeping mess back onto the basement floor. This might be related to why Riley elected not to go to Digglett's Cave a few days ago. Needless to say, she tries her best to hurry Jane out of there as fast as possible.

"There... All done!" Salena proclaims. She pours the resulting liquid into two canisters, seals the lid, and then proudly holds her specimens in the air in triumph. "Ok! These guys worked fantastic for keeping Zubats off me at Mt. Moon, so I'm certain they'll work here too. Let's get a move on!"
Salena then practically drags poor Raven to the caves and enters it's confines. It was going to be a bit of a late night, so the faster they got to exploring, the better!

Hahahahaa! Yes now the cave and- Oh no! No! Noooooo!
"Oh my heart! The explorations have been done without us! Blast it all!" Salena cries. Such great... DESPAIR!

Maybe this wasn't the best idea... Jane worried a bit about Riley. She didn't seem too happy about everything. Ah well! Eventually she managed to slip her Cottonee Nie into Riley's arms instead - the pokémon was much fluffier to hug (not to mention more durable!). Also Nie would "help" distract Riley by tying her hair together in knots and then batting them around for fun. Passed time at least!
"Oh look! There's Lavender!" Jane pointed at the silhouette by the cavern entrance and waved. "Heya!" she called out and as she came a bit closer, and noticed that their friend wasn't alone, she continued. "Oh no worries! We just hurried trough. Who's this?"
