It was hard to get a good read on Pokémon when they were confined to glyphs and you were on a very tight schedule. Most of what she got is the twitchiness of the amphibian, which could mean a lot of things, few of them boding well for it getting along with Arwain. She considered the Pokémon she did recognize - a Magby would be useful for dealing with Pokémon Arwain would have trouble with. So would Woobat, plus it was cute. And Seedot were quite sturdy but they took a lot of babying until they evolved... The spider she had no idea about, but it intrigued her a little.
After a moment longer to deliberate with herself, she stopped in front of the Woobat's glyph. "I think I'll pick this one." Though she made a mental note to inquire at some point where the spider came from. She'd never come across its like before but it made her curious.

At the choice, Adalind made a flourish with her hand and the other four Pokemon were quickly de-summoned. She pulled one bead from the string and handed it to an attendant who then passed it to Maela. It was a simple, basic bead, a bit less kept than those that you were given as part of the standard squire package.

O. stands up and walks forward to examine five pokemon before him trying to determine which pokemon they were because he hadn't seen them before. The greenish turtle could be grass, which would help cover Bryn's weaknesses. On the other hand he really wanted something as fast as him and Bryn so that they could easily scout ahead. The snake's clearly visible fangs remind O. of something, but he can't quite recall what. The turtle is definitely a grass-type, and his best guess is that the cloud creature is an Electric-type. He thinks he's seen the rodent before too... it's either electric or normal but he's not completely certain which.

As O. walks between the five pokemon trying to place them with pokemon he had gotten glimpses of in the past. He was feeling that the turtle might be a bit slow even if it would cover Bryn's weaknesses. The snake looked like it could provide some heavy offense and help in battle. However between the two possible electric types that seemed to call to him he had a tough decision. Rodents were usually very fast, and one of them looked like a cloud which are fast in and of themselves.
O. finally stopped in front of the cloud before speaking up. "I think I'll be choosing this one."

Adalind smiled and recalled the other pokemon.
"That choice is a bit special, for we know very little about its breed" she said. "An experienced tracker only just barely caught sight of it zooming through the clouds and managed to capture it. We very much insist you document as much as possible about the breed's behavior and preferences during your travels"
She then handed O. his bead and motioned for Nolana to approach. |

Lana bites her lip then quickly releases it as her name's called-- no showing her nerves! She practically skips forward, taking a long and hard look at each of the pokemon in turn. Neither the bug, bird, or cat look all that sturdy, to her-- and she wanted to make sure she could keep protecting her friends in combat for as long as possible. The tadpole was... cute, but her attention catches on the little brown pig.
She tilts her head to the side for a moment, studying it, trying to get a feel for what types it might be. Realistically, she has no clue. But something about it interests her far more than the others. "This one please, if that's alright," she says to Adalind with a wide grin.

The rest of the Pokemon vanished when Nolana received the Swinub's summoning bead. She then turned to the other two and seemed to pause for a moment to play with the two remaining bead strings as if pondering who she'd call next.
"We'll now go with you, Amelia darling. Please step up to the glyphs"

Amelia watched the others choose their pokemon, bubbling over with excitement at their choices. All these pokemon were just so CUTE! O chose an adorable little cloud, Lana had a little wiggly piggy, and Maela got the super-fluffy heart bat! She couldn't WAIT to see what partners they chose for her! When her name was FINALLY called, Amy clasped her hands together in excitement, watching Adalind summon... ...A BUNCH OF ABSOLUTE SWEETHEARTS! The mage just wanted to snuggle all the cutie-pies out here! Well, except the bubbling slug, because it looked really, REALLY hot. Poor slug! As for the others...Well, the seedlike pokemon might be grass? And the crocodile was probably water. The floating ice shard was both likely ice and not entirely fun to snuggle, either. The little round, pink thing was snuggly! But Peaches was pink and she was Fairy-type, and if that pokemon was Fairy-typed, too, then there'd be too much overlap...It was so hard! Amy examined each pokemon as quickly as she could, knowing that Morgan was probably even MORE antsy than she was, but kept going between the crocodile and the seed. They were both adorable in their own ways! The crocodile was more of the scary-adorable like Peaches, while the seed was more of a universal adorable. So...hard...to choose! Maybe she could focus more on what the pokemon actually WERE instead of their snuggleability? Pokemon Ed: 9

The seed is flying, quite evidently. It looks super excited and is zooming inside the glyph and making little noises as it goes. The floating icicle seems to be missing a tip and is smiling a bit bashfully, its breath creating small plumes of mist. The croc is waddling around, almost in dance-like fashion, clearly also bursting with excitement. The pink blob is swaying rhythmically side to side, hiding its eyes behind its ears and apparently rather afraid of all the bright colors. The slug is visibly warm and lazing in its place, one eye closed and the other directed at Amelia.

...Amelia really wished she could just ask for the whole bracelet so that she could take all these cuties home, but alas, she had the hardest choice of all! They were all so adorable and deserving of a good home! She hoped the ones she didn't choose got to go to good homes, at least. She wasn't sure who would be able to snuggle the lava slug, though. Adalind could worry about those details later.
The cute little seed was so happy and eager, and so was the cute little croc! But she also wanted to snuggle the little pink pokemon and let it know everything was all right...And the little icicle looked hurt and needed love and affection! All of them were great! Amy paused in front of the crocodile, then nodded.
"All right, I think I'll choose this one." Amy confirmed with a wide smile. "Oh, but the others are going to good homes, right?" She asked, wanting to make sure the other pokemon would be taken care of properly.

Adalind shook her head as if in disbelief at the question, and many of those observing the ceremony seemed to chuckle. King Urien also had a smile on his face, clearly amused by Amelia's lighthearted antics.
"These are combat-trained Pokemon destined to be partnered with either the squires or the soldiers of Leora, Amelia" answered Adalind. "They'll go back to their ranches to await some young warrior to partner with them. It's the same as when you picked your Snubbull"
She handed the croc's bead and adjusted her glasses before returning the other four pokemon.
"And finally, we reach Morgan" |

Morgan watched his compatriots in arms choose their partner with exquisite pain. Oh! It was simply no fair making him wait like this. Now after seeing all the other partners his friends had picked, it place a most disturbing pressure upon him to choose something good as well! Bats, fluffy clouds, little pig thing. With the sole exception of Amelia, they had all chosen the fluffiest of creatures! Perhaps that's what he do too. Something fluffy. I mean if they're going to be on the road for so long, one may as well find a partner that they can sleep on.
Except, the only thing remotely fluffy was a literal mass of vines. The young squire frowns. A creature like that would probably just choke him in his sleep, whether intentionally or unintentionally. Morgan frowns. Using any of these creatures as a pillow was out of the question. But, at least the small one was cute. Aha! Indeed it was just adorable with it's little flower. A petit friend! A clandestine beauty!
Morgan steps forward. Well this decision was ea-
No. No it wasn't that easy at all. All at once, Morgan once more realized that he was not alone in this room. Choosing such a small, tiny creature in front of all these great people would surely look bad. What kind of knight would take such a small, adorable thing into the field? Why, it was just plain unthinkable! His heart sank. No. Clearly he could not choose this one.
He folded his hands across his breast and breathed deep. Ok. He was taking too long. How long had he been standing here like this, like a silly fool with his mouth open? No. His mouth wasn't open at all, what was he thinking? No! Unimportant! He needed to choose. Now! His heart skips a beat and his lips stall for dear life.
"Most amiable Lady Adalind, servant of our great king, if you were to perhaps allow it in your magnanimous grace, I would like to adopt ah... That one!" Morgan suddenly proclaims, jabbing his finger towards the reptilian one in a fit of snap judgement.
Wait? Why the reptile? Bah! It was too late to put his hand down now and lose face with the court. His choice was made!

Adalind stifled a giggle into her hand, clearly amused at Morgan's antics
"Well, you certainly have a... most amusing personality, Morgan. Your choice should complement you well. She's also quite the character" she said, plucking the corresponding bead from the string and handing it to the attendant as she desummoned the other four pokemon.
She then turned around, her face sober and stern.
"You five have been entrusted with more resources than any Squire in the history of our proud kingdom. Use them wisely, for the quest we send you on is not to be taken lightly. The Crown of Lions will patiently await news of your success"
Her eyes ran over the group.
"Any further questions will be answered by your instructors. May your walk be short and your enemies falter as you strike, Squires" |

Excited to meet her new partner in person, Lana was practically bouncing on her heels by the time Morgan chose. Adalind's farewell made her grin wider than ever, and with a deep breath she pressed away her insecurities about being chosen for such an honor.
"I'm confident we will do you all proud," she said, bowing once again. And may the songs of the divines please guide us safely to Gwenhael, and bring us home again in no worse condition!

Maela's fingers curled around the bead linked to the fluffy Woobat as she watched the others make their choices. She was running through names for the bat in her head idly, but mostly she was too excited to keep her mind on anything but the mission ahead. The Midvall Crescent, the deep, fey-haunted forest - meeting one of the Dawn Riders! It was all she could do to keep a straight face while Adalind wound up her closing remarks, especially when she acknowledged Morgan's rather... unique mode of address.
She bowed deeply, a couple of blonde curls falling over her temples where they'd worked their way loose. "It is our honor to serve the kingdom. You may depend on us!"

Morgan was far too bereft of words say anything in the matter, and bowed lowly in great respect. S-senpai The wondrous Lady Adelind has noticed him! Oh such joys! Such divine pleasure! It was enough to make his heart forget his foolish self and begin to dance! Or at least, that's what he felt like doing, but Morgan retained enough composure so as to not make an utter fool out of himself by exposing such lofty emotions to everyone around him. Bowing his head, to allow himself a small, toothy white smile was enough.
Besides.
Like it or not, he had chosen yet another lizard. Morgan rolled the bead in his hand. This choice was most definitely a mistake. Not because it was a bad Pokémon, oh no. The sweet, kind, and beautiful Lady Adalind had clearly acknowledged his choice to be the best of the group! But Fleur, little Fleur would undoubtedly be irreconcilably cross with him. These next few days on the road were bound to be a little uncomfortable...

Holding the unknown breed of pokemon in one hand as he ones again bows to the King, and all the Lords, Ladies, and Knights in the room. He had known getting one pokemon before becoming a knight was unusual, but getting a second made them even more indebted to the kingdom for trusting them so much. He also really wanted to figure out all that the little cloud could do, so that he could help the kingdom understand it better.
"I promise that we will make you proud." O. says after Maela; and that your trust will have not been misplaced.

Amy got recognition from the King! Good recognition! Yay! Adalind had seemed less than amused, but even she could surely see that Amelia's heart was in the right place with her question. As Morgan chose his pokemon, Amelia turned the new bead over in her hand, the reality of the situation settling in. She had not one pokemon, but TWO, gifted by the kingdom! Such an honor! Oh, and she would certainly need a good name for her new pokemon as well...Ah, well, it would come to her later.
With Morgan's choice finalized, and Adalind giving them some final words, Amelia joined the others and gave a low bow. Everyone else had basically said what she was going to, but it felt weird not talking...But now with the pause between her bow and the others talking, her saying anything would be awkwardly placed! Maybe she could try to establish herself to the King and these nobles as the strong, kind, beautiful quiet mage of the squire group? She was already the strong, kind, beautiful mage of the group, so adding some silence to that would be a piece of cake! Hopefully.

King Urien nodded and the party was given permission to leave. They moved through the marble halls, their trainers marking a hefty pace and the youths deep in discussion about their new Pokemon. Once they were outside of the castle proper and into the gardens, the instructors stopped and Cledwyn Rydderch, Grandmaster of the Tyrshall and thus the highest authority at said military academy, turned and crouched down in front of the five of you.

Ice-grey eyes rested on every single one of you for a couple seconds, a worried crease forming over the scar that ran across his brow. He shook his head, clearly conflicted.
"An' then there's ya five. Bes' group I've had ta pleasure of trainin', an' I have been doin' this for maney years. Bright futures, certainley, I thought. Then this thrice-damned war cropped up"
Cledwyn scoffed.
