The old man would laugh, goodheartedly, sitting forward with a grunt as he arthritic-ly digs through his tacklebox, pulling out an old rod, some bait attached to the end of it. "Tell you what, lassie, if you can catch a fish right here, I'll let you keep that rod. I don't need it anymore, and it's always good to foster the next generation of the craft!"

That was very kind of this man to offer up the fishing rod. "Sounds like a challenge, you think you've got what it takes?" he smirks, "or are you scared?"
Orin found growing up, calling someones courage into question was a pretty good way of getting them to do something; at least, it had always worked on him. He felt comfortable being playful and goading Jamie.

Jamie lets loose a loud snort at Orin's question. "Me? Scared of fishing? Get real. Make yourself useful and watch my net, wouldya?" Without waiting for an answer, she sticks the pole into the dirt and takes the fishing pole, before giving it a quick inspection. Pleased with the rod, she winds back and casts it into the stream, the bobber landing with a satisfying *plop*, a determined look on her face.

The water would froth a bit, soundwaves traveling through the water. When the mon was above the surrface, the sound would be very disorentating, the distraught Tympole letting out a Supersonic to the rude fisher who just yanked it from the water! DyW6qPa_1d20 AC 6 if hits, confusion. The old man wincing, and covering his ears as the offending noise rings out.1d20

Jamie covered the ear closest to the Tympole with her hand, using the other to point at the offending Pokemon before. "Spike, shut it up before it does that again! Please!" Spike is of a similar mindset, shooting off a Poison Sting towards the Tympole.

Spike's spike would hit the tympole, disorentating it enough that it was in no position to evade the pokeball. Not that it had much of a chance, Jamie's impeccable form denying any chance of escape from the capture. The ball would wriggle, once, and clicking almost immediately, the pokemon captured. You gain one Dex exp! Spike gains 11 exp!

Jamie picks up the Pokeball and pockets it, smirking at Orin. "A challenge, huh? Not quite what you made it sound like, there." Turning to the old man, Jamie comments, "It's a good rod, alright. Nice sturdy build, bet it's seen a lot of use. I'll be sure to use it well!"

infomantisThe old man would right himself, cleaning out his ear, giving her a broad smile. "A competent rod, handed to a competent trainer." He'd say, pride in his words. "We've hauled a Gyrados out of the water in our prime, that rod and I. Treat it well, and your hauls will be plentiful." He'd say, streaching, yawning softly, and settling into his spot. "Now... I think it's time for this old man to have his afternoon nap. I look forward to seeing your sucess in the news, youngun..." and with that, he'd tip his hat down, over his eyes.

"Not bad at all, you caught an eel-tadpole. Don't get the idea I'd enjoy that in my sleeping bag though," hopefully a prank like that is no longer cleaver if you don't think of it first.
Glad to see that Jamie was getting on well, "today has sure been a day of making new friends, I need to head back to the tall grass, Rook needs a new hat."
Orin would stick around for a few moments if Jamie wished to engage in conversation, otherwise he would make his way to the outskirts of town. He wanted some of those particularly tall reeds of grass to weave into a new hat. The hat might be green at first but, so long as it didn't get eaten again, it would turn yellow in time. One he made it to the grass he began to hum to himself as he selected and gathered the choicest blades of grass.

"Well, if you want to hug it at night instead of your sharper companions, just ask. I'm gonna head back to the center and make sure my team's done healing up. We can plan what's next from there." Waving goodbye to the old man and Orin, Jamie makes her way back to the Pokecenter.

infomantisThe pokemon wouldn't take very long past when Jamie returned before she would have her pokemon again. TazukieThis close to town, the agressive pokemon where naught to be found, even if the forest loomed ominously overhead.

The gereral stirring peaked Orin's interest. He called out Rook, showing off the gathered supplies, "got what I need to replace your hat."
Stuffing the finest blades of grass into his bag, Orin ventured forward into the outer edges of the forest. He was curious enough to at least take a peak.

TazukieA short ways away, standing on it's tail, a Sentreet would curiously peak back at him.

As Jamie picked up her Pokemon from the desk, she focused her thoughts on the upcoming gym. It was going to be focused around water types, more than likely, so that meant her new tympole might have a bit of an edge in that environment. She'd also need to get her bugs into a bit more fighting form, though... speaking of which. "Say, nurse, is there someone that could help teach Pokemon moves in this town? Or anywhere near?"

Orin wanted to impulsively pounce not the creature, but his cooler head prevailed. No one knew he was in the forest, so this could go bad quickly. He also wanted to be in tip top shape, when checking out the sand pit this evening. Rook tugged slightly on the backback, indicating 'it's hat making time.'
"Alright, let's head back the the poke center."
Tugging his pack stars, he retreated from the forest and headed back to town, Rook in toe. Bandit was lazing atop the poke center, and orin gave him a quick wave. Orin was pleased to know he wasn't getting into trouble and he was close by. Upon entering, he saw Jamie checking in with the nurse, then eyes a couch and plopped down. His body let him know how grateful it was for the rest. Breaking out the grass, he began to weave.

infomantisThe nurse would shake her head. "There's the gym leader, but she doesn't teach trainers. The closest bet would be Port Adept, about a hour down the road to the east. There might be a tutor from overseas come in one one of the ships. Beyond that? Progression City for sure would have some, but that's on the other side of the mountain range, maybe two-three hours away."

With the exception of a paper cut, Orin was able to make the hat with a fair amount of ease. He had a lot of practice making small trinkets like this. The had was far from waterproof, but it would go a long ways to keep away light and the heat it produced; and it looked pretty rad too. Rook seemed nonplused when Orin tried to hand him the hat.
"Here you go," seeing Rook's expression, "I know it's green, but it will turn yellow just like your old one soon enough."
Letting Orin place the hat on his head, and fit it to his blade, Rook was pleased with the fit; but he wouldn't let of to Orin about that, after all he was still mad about the color being off. "Why don't we head outside and give or new friend a workout, maybe bandit will come down too."
With a bit of convincing Bandit came down from the roof, then Orin called out Bindi the Trubbish. When Bindi emerged she let out a high pitched burp, 'clearly still digesting the snacks from before, and my pokeball' Orin thought.
Orin wanted to show them how he unlocked a modicum of hitting power with Brutal Training, Sparring Trubbish against Aipom. Bandit seemed unimpressed with Bindi, and it was much of him trying to avoid Bindi's attacks. All the while, Rook seemed more concerned with his new hat, tossing it up and catching it, or going to retrieve it when it caught a bit of wind. Proud of his growing team, his admiration was interrupted but a tummy rumble. 'I hope it's almost time to eat.'

"Me too, I'm famished. Can't remember the last time I missed lunch, and I had an early breakfast to top it off." Jamie moaned from under a tree. She had started running (well, crawling and slithering for her team) around with Spike, the Ekans, and the newly christened Shapiro the Caterpie for some Agility Training while Orin was working on the hat and the Tympole was in the pokecenter, but she'd dropped out before her Pokemon had due to having already run a lot today, not to mention the hunger. "You find out anything interesting while we were split up? Most of what I found out was the gym's probably water-themed, and you were there for the fishing."

"Actually, yeah, the sand pit arena has some sort of activity come evening time, which I'm antsy to check out. The man at merchant at the mart said it strikes up right around the dinner bell. I was going to grab food quick and check it out. By the way, I traded those mushrooms we found for a pokeball."

"Really? That's good to know, especially since I'm starting to run low on balls. Sandpit after dinner sounds like a good plan, I was thinking of checking out those old mines up north but those aren't going anywhere, I'd hope."
