"I saw! I saw!" Elise laughed with her brother. "I don't know is something wrong with it?" She said as the girl and her pokémon approached to rock as well to take a look at it. 5UhTBdb81-6 - Elises Perception 1-61-61-6 -Daisy's Perception

Ira looks down at the rock, then squats down and taps it with his hands. "Not sure. Sounded almost like metal."Next to him, Chase comes up, still a little agitated after the fight. He sniffs around the base of the rock, trying to figure out what's up with it. Ira's perception: R|xMN5492d6 Chase's Perception: 2d6+1 2d6·2d6+1

Ira is the only one perceptive enough to notice the secret hatch built into the metal rock- merely pressing it is enough to cause it to pop open. Upon opening it, a cloud of dust bursts out causing Ira to cough. When the dust clears, amid the cobwebs Ira notices a thick book, covered in dust, leaning against the wall.

Kane looks over Ira's shoulder as the dust settles. (He obviously couldn't get his awesome hero outfit dirty)
"Ira, what is that?"

Ira raises an eyebrow, puzzled at this turn of events.
"Not sure. Looks like a book, but..." He reaches for it for a moment before shaking his head and withdrawing his hand, just in case. "Can't think of a reason an ordinary book'd be in a rock. Might be something weird about it."
He thinks for a moment before an idea comes to him. "Hey, Elise? Could you ask your little friend if she sense anything weird about that book?"
He looks down at the little Ralts. In all honesty, he's always been a bit wary of the little psychic-type, but has learned that she can be trusted, both in general and with keeping his little sister safe.

"I don't know... Well only one way to find out!" She said as she picked up Daisy gently and brought her closer to the book.
"Daisy, my brothers think something is weird about this book, could you take a look at it?" Elise asked her pokémon while letting it glance over the book. She herself doubted the book was dangerous, but there probably was a reason for why it was there.

Daisy investigates the only way she knows how: she uses her telekinetic power to bring the book into her stubby little hands. Heaving with all her might, the tiny Ralts pulls the book out before she loses her grip and drops the book onto the sand with a thud. It is a large, thick book, one that could easily be mistaken for a dictionary. It looks old, and has a thick clasp locking it shut; however, you could easily undo the clasp with little effort. What stands out to you is that there is a golden number "4" on the cover- embossed, glued, taped, or stapled there, you can't tell. It looks a little like this:

Chase scampers up to the book, sniffing it intently and growling a little, suspicious of this rock-book.
Sharing those suspicions, Ira squats down next to it.
"Hmm... doesn't seem like there's anything special about the book itself. Might be something wrong with what's written, though."
He looks up at his siblings. It occurs to him that he's probably the best person to look first. If nothing happens, nothing happens. If something bad happens and it's resistable, he's the best equipped to defend against it. If something happens and it isn't resistable, then at least it'll be him and not them that suffers.
"Okay, I'm going to look inside. If anything bad happens, get as far away from here as possible and get help."
Gingerly, he opens the front cover.

Wow, it's a lot heavier than it looks. No wonder Daisy dropped it. The inside of the front cover has nothing on the inside. No writing, no "Property of So-and-so," nothing. The first page, however, has something written there. The scribbled handwriting indicates that whoever wrote this was in a big hurry. It's barely legible: "It has been seven long years since we arrived in Alola, and this is the first time I'm seeing such things. They tell me I'm only hallucinating, that I may be starting to lose my grip. Can they see? They have to, otherwise there's no way they'd let those things ride around on their heads. "But our research shows that people could be controlled by them. Are they being controlled? And if so, why are these things controlling them? Do they suspect me? Likely. Who knows who else is being controlled by these monsters? What will they do to me if- or more likely when- they catch me? "I don't know, and I'm not sure I want to Therefore, as a precaution, I will be encoding the rest of this journal so that only I am able to read it. Extreme? Perhaps. But in Alola, there is no one I can trust. Me, if you're reading this and forgot how to read the code, remember this above all else: TRUST NO ONE!"

Ira raises an eyebrow at the words on the page.
"Well, it doesn't seem like anything dangerous to read, but..."
He turns the book around to let his siblings take a look at it.
"Might just be delusion, but... let's just keep this between us three for now."

"That's ominous. Shouldn't we tell Hau about it though? If it's about someone who was in this region, he might know more than us. Plus, I'd trust him over some adult any day"

"I agree with Kane. We should let him know we found it, but first I think we should see if anything else is written on any other pages." Personally Elise thought the person who wrote this was either crazy or possibly drunk when he wrote this.

Hau was watching you battle, apparently ready to hop in if things got crazy. Looking up, you see he's negotiating with a bored stall owner for some ice cream- possibly for each of you. He hasn't seen you with the book.

Ira hums. "Well, don't think we could exactly hide something this big from him, so I agree we should tell him we found it, but... I dunno. It's probably just nonsense. And if it isn't, it's probably not as bad as the writer thinks it is. And if it is, Hau's probably not been affected by it."
He puts a hand on the book, tracing around the words TRUST NO ONE! "But you never know what probably's going to fail you."
Closing his eyes for a moment, he comes to a decision. "We'll tell him what we found - a weird book full of crazy rambling. If he recognizes it, we might tell him more. But otherwise, I think we should keep exactly what's inside to ourselves, at least until we can crack the code and learn a bit more."

Hau takes the book from Kane, looking at it. "Huh. Odd. I've never seen this book before." He opens it up, flipping through it. Inside, you see what appears to be gibberish, but must, in fact, be the code mentioned on page 1; between some of the paragraphs, you notice drawings of bizarre creatures- the likes of which you've never seen before. The drawings seem less like cartoons and more like anatomical drawings. You all also notice that the writing stops about halfway through, as though the author mysteriously vanished... or had nothing more to write. Hau closes the book, looks at the cover again, and hands it back to you. "I don't know what this book is," Hau admits, "only that, judging by the drawings, it has something to do with what happened last year. Maybe it's the journal of someone affected by the incident, but I dunno." He taps the number four on the cover. "One thing I can say for sure is that there are at least three more books, probably with one hidden on each of the islands."

Ira puts his face in his hand, suppressing a groan.
Well, that didn't last long. Still, at least we've got someone who knows the area. Should still keep an eye on him, though.
He looks at Hau closely, looking for any of the telltale signs of mental influence. Of course, anything as widespread as the book suggests would probably be better at hiding than most, but it was always worth checking.
"That's a possibility." He says, still a little cagey. "Trouble is, we only found this one by a coincidence, so chances are we won't be able to find the others without some kinda clue. So, probably best to decipher this one first, might give us a hint before we go searching the region."
He pauses, thinks for a momet, then adds "Also, Ice Cream is acceptable."

"Well, if you're going to be going all cloak-and-dagger looking for the rest of these books, why not take the Island Challenge?" Hau suggests. "It'll give you a good excuse to travel around Alola." He hesitates a moment. "Also, not to make you even more paranoid, but what if someone on another island found another of these journals?"
