The bored shopkeeper purchases Shoko's Speed booster for 3000P and returns his thoughts. (Is Karla looking for anything in particular?)
Before the kid can answer Evie, a woman's shrill voice cuts him of. "Sylvester! Get away from that beast now!"An older woman crosses over to Paon and the kid, clearly intending to grab her child and pull him away.

Evie's fingers curl in Paon's feathers for a moment to keep him from startling at the sudden noise, and she hisses "Au pied, Paon." The physical grip is more reinforcement for the command to heel than anything. Paon's crests still flare upward for a moment, and he clacks the beak farthest away from the kid shut quietly.
Evie doesn't physically move to block the woman's way, but she does give her a rather fixed look that comes off more glower-like than she probably intended. "Is there a problem here?" At a glance she's assuming this is the kid's mom, but the lady is definitely not making a very good first impression.

Karla is interested if there are any Ice Plates, but with her current funds isn't going to buy any, and moves to leave when Shoko finishes her trade.

When the two of them finish browsing the market, Shoko turns to Karla. "Would you find it beneficial to practice simultaneous battling? I feel that we might benefit from better understanding our relative rolls and strengths in battle. We might find some strategies to benefit us in our future encounters."

Karla is slightly surprised by the idea and takes a moment to consider. "Yeah it would probably be good if we knew how to cover each other. Lets do it. Will we grab the others or will we start with just the two of us."

"Multiple partners will cause confusion until we are able to study each other and coordinate at least pairwise. I suggest we introduce our pokemon to each other and discuss our battle style with each. We can then attempt to formulate pairwise strategies. The logical conclusion would then be to attempt a double battle if we can find opponents." Shoko ponders for a moment before continuing, "We needn't rush through any of it though, and might have to go through several iterations of strategy before we find one that works. If we find decent enough strategies, we can then exchange battling partners."
"Do you believe this is a reasonable course of action? Or have I placed too much thought into this, as I have been told I tend to do?"

Karla nods along to Shoko's suggestions "You've definitely got some good points, and I'm all for it. Lets maybe find somewhere less busy for the training and strategy meeting though." Karla looks across to the beach and the water. "Preferably not the beach though. My primadonna of a Meowstic hates water."

Shoko leads the way to a reasonably open area that she saw a bit after departing from Evie. She prompts Karla to sit and releases all of her pokemon except Tilda. "Snack time," Shoko declares pulling out a few treats for them. She turns to Karla and preemptively answers, "Tilda might fight them for the food. Not from hunger; just to get them to fight her. Too.... willing to show off superiority by most means."

Karla lets out her own Pokémon, with Diz dancing away and Sparkles finding her own spot. "Yeah I'm pretty familiar with show offs", she says, patting Diz's head. Buggaboo is floating around near Shoko's Pokémon curiously.

Shoko lures Mirk closer to Karla with a snack in hand. "Mirk is a rather odd dragonair. He tires easily, but is an otherwise very strong defensive battler. As you've seen, he tends to focus on incapacitating enemies; though it mainly stems from his obsession with hugging. The possibilities when battling together there are quite obvious. His hugs are mostly inescapable, but they alone do not prevent foes from fighting back, so do be wary even if Mirk manages to ensnare someone." Shoko gently patted Mirk's head and transitioned into rubbing behind his wing-ears.
She focuses Karla as if prompting her to introduce one of her pokemon next.
Mirk meanwhile taps shoko's chin with his head then points to Karla by stretching his head towards her. He repeats this action a few times while squeezing shoko's leg with the tail he just wrapped around it.
"He wishes for you to experience one such hug so that you might find comfort in his ability to restrain foes," shoko pauses while Mirk gives her two more squeezes. "It appears he insists; although it is more likely that he just wants to hug someone new, relatively new."

"Kelpie and Buggaboo I'm kind of only getting used to myself. Sparkles is a ranged attacker who prefers not to get herself dirty. Diz here loves to get tight into enemies faces and show off there. Oh but here could be something really useful for tag teams." She shoots a beam of ice into the ground "Diz, Copycat!" Diz's happy dancing becomes a little more focused, and after a few steps he mimics Karlas stance and shoots a beam of ice into the ground. "That's my guys. Oh. Ok he can hug me as long as he's not too tight I guess."

Upon hearing her acceptance, Mirk dashes towards Karla and wraps all 13 feet of himself across various limbs and her torso (27 roll to contest it). He gives Karla a gentle but firm squeeze each time she twitches a muscle to emphasize his hold on her. While he's busy hugging her Shoko introduces her octillery.
"This one is a recent addition during our beach adventures when we originally arrived here. I've yet to name him, but he will likely earn his nickname as we continue to battle. I tend to find inspiration for their names when we do so." Shoko prods Octillery's head as she continues, "He specializes in long range battles and prides himself on his ability to hit small weak spots in opponents."
"That one is Tempest. While he mostly battles on the offensive, he is able to create opening for others to deal more damage. He is quite sturdy while still being strong so he is very useful when facing quick hitting opponents. Something Tilda might struggle with."
Tilda recalls the two of them and eventually calls Mirk back to her side. She preps some food for Tilda before she releases her.
"Any questions so far?"

(Karla's max roll is 20 so grappled)
"Oh that's a tight squeeze. Very good hugger", Karla laughs once she's released. "I follow so far... what kind of openings does Tempest create? What should we be looking to take advantage of?"

"He uses Metal Sound to great effect. Though I must admit it is rather unpleasant to hear even when not directed at oneself. It isn't usually needed except for the most defensive of pokemon though."
Shoko finally releases Tilda, "Tilda, have some food." Tilda quickly goes after her snack, quite happily eating it.
"Tilda on the other hand is fairly straight forward. She prides herself in her strong attacks. She is capable of slowing or confusion enemies on occasion. Also, although she tends to be a bit... frail I suppose is the right word, she has ways to heal herself. But she needs to find cover to do so due to that frailness. She tends to be quite accurate as well, so if we're able to keep attention off of her, she usually has no trouble in any battle. Once opponents realize this though, they tend to focus on her of course."
"I believe that's all. The creation of ice to slip opponents can prove quite useful for making openings for Tilda. Mirk on the other hand can create openings for your Sparkles. Though I suppose we could always try dual long range tactics on any opponents too dangerous to approach. Do you have any other ideas?"

The woman gives Evie a stern look. "Yes there is. I'm sorry my son was harassing you and your pokemon." She says curtly, pulling her son several meters away from Paon. "I won't be losing track of him again, I can promise you that."

"Diz and Buggaboo should also both be fairly capable of acting in defense to keep foes off Tilda as she does what she does best." Karla looks over the combined Pokémon of the two trainers with a smile. "I'd say those combinations should be a nice touch for future battles." Diz took this to be a good time to come over and start doing a complex dance for Shoko.

That's really not a sorry look at all. "He wasn't harassing us at all. He was very polite. I don't mind, and this great peacock likes the attention. Debout."
Paon rises into a standing position slowly as Evie crosses her arms. She isn't sure whether the woman legitimately thinks her son was being a bother, or whether she's just taking the excuse to pull him away for some other reason. She wonders distantly whether Paon frightens her... goodness knows what she'd make of Noxra, then. Even people who aren't normally afraid of bugs usually look a little askance at a Wurmple the size of a Rhyhorn.

The woman tries to hold Evie's gaze, but her eyes flicker down to Paon as the bird moves, her expression briefly becoming just a little bit fearful, before she gets herself under control. Her son tries to pull away from her grip as she does.
"Muuum. I just wanted to see the Dodrio up close, 'cause its not from Sinnoh." He complains as he ineffectually struggles.

Evie frowns slightly when she takes in the woman's expression. It's not that being wary of Paon's long beaks and heavy talons is unreasonable, in itself, but being afraid of a Pokémon whose trainer is right there is honestly a little insulting - as if she can't keep even as pushy a Pokémon as Paon under control enough not to hurt someone who isn't aggravating him. Maybe she can't help it.
"That part's true. This one's parents came all the way from Kanto. Won his egg in a race." She smiles a little at the memory. "He was born to run... and never let me forget it from the moment he hatched, either."
She's... not really sure what the polite thing to do is when the woman's trying to drag poor Sylvester off, since he's clearly her son. It's not like she can accuse her of kidnapping him.

With some new knowledge in mind, Shoko muses over the battle combos they could test. She begins in her usual monotone voice, "Shall we find ourselves someone to test these strategies on, or would you prefer to regroup first? I would not mind either scenario." She glances curiously at Diz before rhythmically clapping to his dance, though expression unchanged.
