Karla follows after, idly wondering if she'll have to punch something next... "I guess there's only one way to go... lets go."She follows after Evie, trying to peer into the dark. Karla Loran made a Perception Check! | 8K22Ck5K2d6 |

Shoko smiles as she makes her way towards the now open door and holds out palm to high five her new colleague of the scientific shoko method. Much like the others she peers towards the darkness, the flashlights providing a mild bit of aid, but still finding herself squinting a bit. Shokomade a Perception Check! | _1TpzenU5d6 |
Thankfully she's always had great eyesight. "A shard researcher and hunter can't let themselves be slowed by a bit of darkness," she thought to herself. Feeling a bit more refreshed thanks to Mirk's mild massage she proudly steps forward despite not having contributed this time around ( "I'd like to think I inspired this solution though.") As she steps inside, she began to look around for anything of interest. "Hopefully some more stones are in here... stones... I want shards... I wonder if whatever's sealed in here is entertaining?"5d6

The dark hallway is 20 metres long, with a recessed statue every 4 meters. The air is stale and damp, but breathable. At the end of a hallway is a large room with no other entries or exits. At the centre is a raised dais, roughly 3 metres across. Several clay spheres lie half buried in the sand and the walls are covered in carvings both familiar and new.The statues seem utterly inanimate despite looking extremely similar to the pokemon Golett.

Evie runs her flashlight over the statues cautiously. If this was an adventure movie, those things would be coming to life pretty much immediately - or maybe after they passed them, to cut off their escape. She can only assume an actual hidden ancient ruin might have similar security. Her sixth sense isn't always as inerrant as some, but it's definitely nudging her now. "These things are making me nervous. Might want to keep an eye on them."
After a moment's thought she calls out Noxra, the mutant Wurmple she'd caught a few days ago. She's more likely than most of Evie's other Pokémon to be comfortable underground, and doesn't take up as much room in the corridor as Ale or Cara would. Of course, that's a relative statement - a Wurmple the size of a Rhyhorn still takes up a good chunk of floor, but she's easier to fire off an attack over the top of than one of the others.
With Noxra crawling along at her side, Evie advances into the room cautiously, though she stops short of stepping onto the dais. Looking at the wall carvings again, she mutters, "These guys were very into skulls."

They have good taste, for ruin-making people, Shoko thinks to herself. Her inner monologue continued, huh. That's exactly four and half sizes too big. I wonder if the red chains did that too. Probably. Ooooo ideas. Experiment. Results? Various images of random pokemon being comically blended with a red glowing shard and resulting in various weird mutations popped through her head as she distractedly followed Evie and her monstrosity of a Wurmple.
It was only when Mirk started nibbling on her neck, aka ticklish point #267, that she angrily stiffled a giggle before shooting Mirk a death glare. Opportunistic as always, he bopped her nose with his face before pointing his head at the various statues, trying to get her to pay attention. "Mirk, rest for now. I'll need you later." Mirk nodded and rubbed the top of his head on her cheek before going limp on her shoulder. Shoko's step became noticeably less smooth and she just realized exactly what she asked him to do. Nevertheless, she carried on while rubbing her hand soothingly along dragonair just below it's head.
"You there, um Evie, I've meant to ask... and it may come up, but what role do you take in battle?"

Cassandra ignores the varied conversations, choosing instead to keep an eye on their surroundings. "Occult nonsense." she scoffs silently. Never has she understood people's fascination with the unknown. Unknown things tend to be dangerous. Especially to your average person ('dabblers' as she calls them).
All Cassandra needs to know about this place is 1) it was sealed, probably for good reason, and 2) it clearly must have something to do with the 'red chains', else those mutated pokemon she heard about that were digging up the place wouldn't be here. While she obviously would have preferred to leave the place sealed (or better yet, seal it in a more permanent fashion somehow), now that someone thought it was a great idea to smash the seal, she may as well do her job and make sure nothing ambushes her easily distracted allies.

Horace immediately walks towards the closest clay sphere with a small smirk on his face, "The find of a lifetime." He whispers to himself although it is quite audible to the others which is followed by, "And soon the fight of a lifetime. That bastard Inkay will get whats coming to him." His purple aura begins to light up once again before quickly disappearing after he began to investigate the room. He Instructs Gulliver to watch the hallways while he inspects the room. "We wouldn't want anybody to interrupt my fun." He yells over to the ghoulish specter who nods and gestures a cracking of knuckles before disappearing from view. Horace then gets to work with the occasional gleeful gasp or giggle whenever he finds something interesting. 16 Perception focused on the Clay spheres/circular indents in the floor or wall. 17 Occult Education for the Room, Clay Spheres, or new Sigilyph-like designs.

Karla advances up the corridor with the others. Statue shaped Pokémon present an annoying challenge: Which ones are real? crossed through her mind. At Horace's mutterings she realises it's quite likely there'll be a fight in here. She releases Buggaboo "Hey Bugs, disappear and stay close. There might be a fight soon." The pumpkin disappears from sight. She can't even tell if it's following her order, but she knows it will.

"Me? I'm a racer." She shoots a cocky, crooked smirk Shoko's direction. "My team hits fast and hard, especially when I'm right in there with them. Noxra here is new, but she's already picked up a few tricks. And I can take a punch myself when I need to... or throw one." And between the tiny scientist and the skinny fashion model, she's starting to think that might be a talent she needs to exercise, even if Shoko seems to be awfully good at blowing things up.
The giant Wurmple looks up at Evie when she hears her name, and Evie strokes her head lightly - though very carefully between the spines. They're rather intimidating when scaled up to several times normal size. Noxra's body is thick enough that Evie can even ride on her, though she'd have to pull her legs up to do it, and she has the proverbial lean and hungry look. Though Wurmple are usually pretty hungry even at their normal size.
Evie looks from the spheres Horace is examining to the broad dais in front of her. "The bad guy you're expecting's probably more likely to show up here." Though she's still being very careful not to step on or touch the dais herself, not wanting to provoke the speculative bad guy into putting in an appearance before they're ready for it.

Horace is fairly certain the Sigilyph like icons are meant to represent Sigilyph and other guardians watching over this place. Guardians like the clay spheres buried in the sand. Looking closely Horace notices they're made to resemble a Koffing, with sand replacing the gas. But these guardians are either dead or were never animated in the first place.
Now that you're all in the room you can make out a diamond shaped hollow in the centre of the dais, apparently where something used to be. Scattered around the room, buried in the sand are tiny slivers of red glass.

"Hey, wait, are those shards... like of the chain? Inside this place that was sealed during whatever cataclysm happened here a few months ago?" Karla is right - the gem slivers do resemble the shards of the Red Chain. But something about them seems different.

Shoko, noticing the shard like objects currently in Karla's hand, moves to peek at the shards. She closes the gap between them calmly and simply coughs before adding, "May I?" Her much more serious tone now kicking in, she sets to searching for some of her tools for handling and analyzing shards. First and foremost, she pulls out her dowsing rods to see if they react at all to these slivers. "I wonder..."

"Really?" Evie crowds in, maybe just a little too eagerly, to peer at the red fragment in Karla's hand. She's never seen one of the shards in person before, and frankly has very little idea how they operate; she's distantly aware of the possibility that she might wind up getting herself mutated by accident just from getting too close. She may not have entirely settled on regarding that as a bad thing.

"You really shouldn't be touching that. Especially if it is a Chain fragment. Then again, when has anything I've said stopped you before?" Cassandra sighs, rolling her eyes before deciding she needs to keep an eye on both the exit and the "touch everything" crowd. Under her breath she mutters "By Arceus, it's like working with children!"

"Chill out." Karla says, blowing a little snow onto the floor near Cassandra. "Unless you have a time machine it's a little late to be telling me that." she gives Cassandra a smile to show she is only joking... mostly, but she does try to keep the others from touching it. "Though these seem slightly different... Hey Shoko, that stuff giving you any ideas?"

"Ohh don't worry about the Red Chain fragments. I've outright injected them into my body and I'm still alive." Horace says with a non-nonchalant tone. "I mean you might become slightly mutated, but even that has its perks. If you don't mind I'm going to bring a couple with me for research purposes." Horace takes a handful of the shards he finds and put's them in his collection jar.
"Hmm... I wonder if..." Horace says inquisitively to himself although it is audible to the rest of the group. He then quickly goes over to one of the clay spheres and attempts to place it in the dais along with one of the red chain shards inside of it. "Never hurts to try."

Evie's attention is drawn away from the shards by Horace's activity - not that she was doing a whole lot of good inspecting them anyway, apart from her own wishful thinking. She tenses up visibly and moves over toward Noxra again.
"Warn us when you're going to do something like that!" she snaps, entirely regardless of whether his action has any real result; she's still running on adventure-movie logic, that being the only kind she's got to account for their situation, and is frankly expecting something threatening to materialize quickly, most likely right where Horace is messing about.

Looking closely at the shard, Shoko is certain that its made of the same material as the red chain was, but is utterly inert. The dowsing rods completely fail to react.
Looking around you guys notice that most of the red gem shards are on the raised dais.

" Hmm, these are definitely like the red chain. But they don't seem to be functional. It's possible that these are fragments that have lost their power... or ... this could easily be shards that weren't yet made into the chain. They should be safe." She eyes Horace pocketing a few of the inert shards and decides to join him, " I'll be holding onto a few of these as well. They might prove useful in understanding the... shall we say active? shards." Shoko approaches the raised dais, releasing her Archen. It lands on the ground next to her, preferring to walk. " Stay close, and be ready." Shoko, then reaches for the shard on the raised dais, carefully making sure to not disturb anything as she pockets the red gem shards. Shoko began to think to herself as she surveyed the dais: This dais looks interesting at least. I wonder what they did here....Shokomade a Perception Check! | f1hu3v745d6 |
