Goggles recoils as it bites down, and flinches even more at the leeching tendrils. Mahjong similarly doesn't seem to care for the noise in the slightest. "Well, that's not bad, not at all," admits Wilson, appraising the field. Meanwhile, Lynne seems to take a less subtle approach. "Hey, Sparky, are you ever going to get your lizard to move?" This causes Amprex to jerk his head up to look at her, distracting him slightly. Goggles leaps forwards, but, still apparently suffering from the poison, he goes wide, missing the Budew by a wide margin. Mahjong, on the other hand, has no such problems, lunging directly on top of Amprex, clinging onto the Helioptile and biting it until it stops moving. Even Wilson seems shocked at the display. Seemingly emboldened by the elimination of the electric threat, Siren bounces closer back to Ollie, unleashing another surge of power. The bug seems to be barely holding on. Goggles is poisoned. Goggles takes 2 injuries from Absorb. Mahjong is hit by Screech.

Ollie shuddered as his chitin felt stiff, unable to focus on the fish flopping just out of her range. He was almost at his end, so in small effort he managed to flick a sting at the other bug. Poison Sting - Phys Poison - AC2

Donovan frowns as Amprex goes down " Your bug must doesn't know the definition of restraint it seems" He calls out before turning his head towards Desiree " Well, it looks like it's up to Rose and Ollie to avenge Amprex" His voice seems calmer than normal " Rose, Get back and repeat what you did before. Take down the Croc" Rose follows the command flawlessly, jumping back once more while firing off another volley of tendrils, drawing more energy to himself Donovan is using Focused Training

Desiree looked at Lynne in some confusion, mirroring Amprex. She was going to retort, when the unthinkable happened. In a display of savage strength, Mahjong took Amprex out of the fight. Desiree is honestly speechless for a second. "What?" Is all she can get out, before the reality of what happened hits her and she quickly recalls Amprex. Looking rather disappointed in herself, Desiree stares down at Amprex' Pokeball. After a few moments, she looks up at Wilson. "Haha," she laughs sheepishly, "I guess you weren't being completely arrogant when you said there'd be no contest. Mahjong is pretty strong." Desiree's eyes suddenly grow incredibly intense as she stares at Wilson, "But make no mistake, Amprex and I will get you next time!"
She then turns to her teammates. "Sorry I kinda let you down a bit. Don't get disheartened though, with some luck and skill we could still win this!" She grins at the two cheerfully, apparently having completely recovered from her earlier bout of disappointment in herself.

The attack from Rose swiftly takes care of Goggles, Jenna looking crestfallen as she recalls her Pokémon. Ollie's attack is, unfortunately, relatively ineffective. Siren's retaliation, however, is not. It unleashes a gush of water from its mouth, hammering into Ollie, and causing the poor bug to curl up into a ball and stay down. Mahjong runs over towards Rose, but stops at the thorns on the ground. It seems to gingerly reach out towards one, before thinking better of it, and instead engaging in a staring contest. Goggles faints from absorb. Jenna chronicles Absorb Ollie hits Mahjong with Poison sting. It's not very effective.

Avani gave a sigh, a pained look across her face as she recalled Ollie back into his ball. Her gaze remained upon it, sullen as she shook her head a bit. "...I'm sorry..." she muttered, slipping the ball back into it's place before her gaze shifted to watch the rest of the battle in silence. A smile forced it's way back upon her face, more practiced than one would probably suspect of the cheerful girl. "You can do it Rose!" she called out, trying to keep a cheerful demeanor about herself.
...You should have done more...You failed him...

A disastified grunt is the first sound Donovan made as he watched his team go down " It's alright, Rose can do this. He takes after the person who gave him to me" With a slight exhale, Donovan calls out once more " Rose, fall back and shed some more thorns, we need to stay safely out of reach" Rose proceeded to just do that, falling back a little ways, scattering thorns all along the way Rose falls back and uses Spikes

Donovan raised an eyebrow as both of the remaining Pokemon began to come towards him " Rose, Blossom!" As if on queue, Rose released multiple yellow blossoms into the air around Mahjong. Unfortunately, when they burst into powder, they missed the bug entirely Donovan is using Focused Training

With the powder dissipating into the air, Wilson gives a bit of a smile, before saying "Yank it over, Mahj!"With a tremendous tug, Mahjong pulls Rose over its own Spikes, right into its awaiting maw, where it nibbles around the poisonous thorns, until Rose stops struggling. With that, the battle's over. Rose misses with Stun Spore.

Lynne uses Decisive Director on Mahjong. Wilson uses Focused Training. Mahjong Threaded shifts, pulling Rose over the Spikes. Rose takes a tick of damage, and is Slowed for 1 round. Rose takes 33 damage, 2 injuries, and Faints from Bug Bite. Everyone take 30 EXP for their starter, and a TXP. "Well, that was certainly exciting!" The aide says, breaking the silence. "Everyone fought very well. You said that this was your first battle, dear?" she asks, looking at Avani. "Well, don't get discouraged. All it takes is practice, and bonding with your partner. You'll work it out, in time. In the meantime, Andrea should have everything ready. I...hope."Heading back the way you came, you re-enter the atrium area to see a woman standing in front of the reception counter, with a half-dozen backpacks on the desk behind her. The most notable feature about her is that her long hair has been dyed in several rainbow stripes... it looks like it would be fairly difficult to maintain. Seeing you, she waves everyone over. "Oh, I'm sorry that I lost track of the days. I'm Professor Maple, the... well, closest thing to a chief researcher here at this lab. Everyone sort of does their own thing. But, I digress. You're all here because we saw potential in you, potential to rise to the supreme challenge of- she suddenly stops and turns to her aide. "Do I really have to go through that whole garbage League thing every time?" "Yes." "Well, it's stupid. And they won't know if I say it or not." She turns back. "To be honest, you're probably here because the League wants to draw in people, and they think you'll provide a good show. The only reason you got the invite from me is because it's tradition, apparently. It keeps the funding rolling in, though." Her aide is sighing behind her back. "That's no reason to not follow your dreams, though. If you want to be the best, head to the top, then go for it. Even if you don't make it, you'll make something of yourself. That's how I got to be where I am, today. Anyways," she begins handing out the backpacks, "In here are several supplies helpful for a beginning trainer, a PokéDex registered to you, and your League ID card. Any questions, so far?" "Oh, uh, regarding the League cards," the aide interjects, "you might want to be careful where you go about flashing those... There's a small amount of unrest going on here in Vesperia. Mainly concerning the presence of the League. Some people can get rather... vehement, or even violent, when confronted with something that they think is destroying their way of life. You should be fine, I just thought I'd give a warning."

Avani listened to the aide before her smile softened into a more natural feeling one. "Yes, I suppose that's true! We'll just have to work on it," she replied before following the group back with a bounce returned to her step. She blinked a few times at the Professors appearance, listening intently nonetheless though she was almost scattered in her thoughts as she shifted between them and the aide.
When handed her backpack she slung it over her shoulders, opening her mouth to ask a question before the aide piped up. The news seemed a little worrying, though she let the thoughts push away for the time being. "Ah, were can we heal our Pokemon?"

Desiree's first reaction to Professor Maple was amusement. She seemed to fit the scatterbrained professor stereotype to a T. Her amusement waned to be replaced by rapt attention, which was then lost as the Professor promptly revealed she was basically reading off a script and wanted to stop. Desiree couldn't decide which of those two aspects was funnier, but a clearly amused expression graced her face. She decided she liked Professor Maple. She seemed like a very practical person in her own way. Desiree stood a little taller when the Professor talked about dreams and thought about her own. She'd always wanted to be 'someone' in the Pokemon League. At first she'd only wanted to be a Gym Leader, because she was competitive and her role model remained a Gym Trainer. Now though, she had the chance to go for more than that. She was going to do everything in her power, and within her pride, that she could do in order to reach the position of Champion. Desiree wondered what the Avani and Donovan and Jenna's dreams and goals were.
The city girl took her backpack with a grateful smile, and took note of the warning with a serious nod. She had a question to ask though- ah it seemed like Avani was a little quicker than her. "Ah good question Avani." She had another, less important question too though. "So I was wondering, Professor Maple, if you don't mind me asking, what exactly do you study?"

Donovan winced as Rose went down, though he quickly recalled the small Grass type without a word. Though he took solace in the fact that it took three of them to take him down, with a bit of training, Rose would be able to handle that fight no problem.
Upon receiving the supplies, Donovan shouldered the backpack, and thought a bit on what the professor said. What exactly did he want to do, what were his dreams? He shook the thought from his head. That's why he was doing this, to find out just that.

"There's a Pokémon Center just past here, a little ways," the Professor says, gesturing in a direction. "It shouldn't be too much of a hassle to find it, even for someone unfamiliar with the area. Thankfully, red roofs aren't in style for most people here."
"As for what I do?" She opens her mouth to say something, closes it again, then goes back to speaking. "...I'll just keep it the short version to start with, otherwise we might be here a bit. My primary field of study is that of Pokémon Synthesis. Essentially, trying to figure out how Pokémon biologically do what they do, and replicate that with technology. For example, more efficient batteries and generators, based on Elekid. Unfortunately, in order to get transferred here, and have actual funding, they wanted me to take part in the research on the Temples. It hasn't turned out to be too bad, though. I haven't had as much time as I've wanted to work on my projects, but it's actually been rather enjoyable. Hopefully I should be able to get back to work on Synthetics, soon, though."
"Speaking of getting back to work, don't forget you have to get ready to leave for that conference."
"Yes, Lana, I know. What do you think I was doing earlier?"
"Forgetting you had a meeting with these kids."
"..." That makes the professor be quiet for a moment. "Point taken."
"Speaking of which..." Lana says, looking over the six of you, "I don't suppose any of you were planning on going up to Kanadario?"
"I was planning on boating over to Turngate while I was here," Wilson says, "I don't know about you two," he turns to Lynne and Jenna, "but training up against some ghosts that aren't in some cemetery sounds fun. Plus there's a gym there. What do you guys say?"
"As long as you're paying for the ferry," Lynne replies, with a smirk, while Jenna just shrugs, quiet again.
"Oh. Uh, well what about you three?" she asks. "I'd rather hope to have someone to accompany the professor along the way. I'm sure you could ask some battling tips, too."
"I don't battle much anymore, Lana," Professor Maple sighs, "And I don't need a chaperone. I can take care of myself. I haven't not made it back, yet."
"Yes, but you do need a timekeeper. Can you stop yourself getting lost? Or distracted? Seriously, every time, you see something in the forest, or this, or that. I swear," she gives a sarcastic smile, "the day you're on time, you'll give everyone a heart attack."

Donovan stroked his chin for a moment before speaking, quite a bit more quietly then he had during the battle "I uhh..I mean, I had planned on stopping back in Kanadario to see my parents again when I got the chance, since I wasn't sure how long I was going to be gone. So really, I wouldn't be accompanying you Professor, but rather the other way around."
He looked down at the Pokeball in his hand "See Rose got really hurt in that last battle, so it would be nice to have someone around who knows a bit more about battling"
He turns to the two girls, his cheeks flushed slightly red for a moment "That is, if you both don't mind"

Avani nodded as her question was answered before listening to the others as well. She smiled as the aide had asked them to go with the professor, only for it to shift into a slight awkward expression as the Professor began to dismiss the idea. Her eyes flicked between the pair as they bantered, almost giving a sight of relief as Donovan spoke up.
As he turned to them her face lit up, smiling as the arguing was done and over as she gave a nod. "I don't mind at all, as long as we could get to that Pokemon Center first. I still have a lot to learn when it comes to battling after all, so any chance to understand it better would be helpful!"

Desiree looked interested in Professor Maple's research. "So I should come to you if I ever wanted solar panels that are as efficient at absorbing sunlight as Helioptile are, right?" Desiree grins. "Your research sounds fascinating, Professor!"
A few moments later, Desiree smiled at Donovan, her grin having lost some intensity and grown more soft. "I also wanted to make a stop in Kanadario to visit my parents. I have no problem at all with adding another person to our number."

"Well, I'm not going to be leaving until after lunch, so you'll have plenty of time to heal up," the professor says. "Less food I have to carry. Although, they really do need to get to working on a portable PC system, so I only have to carry around one thing."
"And... no, you shouldn't come to me," she jokes to Desiree, "because I don't have those. Things are mostly still in the preliminary research phase. Even with what other people have found out over the years, there is still so much that we don't know about Pokémon."
"Anyways, I think if we're all done with questions, then it's time for you all to set out on your journeys. There's a whole region for you to explore out there, and we probably haven't even scratched its surface. Just make sure to never lose sight of what's important to you. Oh, and if you come up with any more questions on your journeys, you can always contact the lab via the PC system."

Desiree smiles at Professor Maple and nods. She turns to Avani and Donovan. "Let's head out guys. Amprex is in dire need of some healing." She turns once again towards the exit of the lab and starts walking towards it.

Avani smiled to Desiree, nodding a bit as she followed. She only paused for a moment with a wince in pain as her body caught the edge of the door frame, rubbing her arm as she scurried to catch up. Her gaze turned to the area, looking over everything as she followed Desiree. Surely she would find the center faster than Avani herself ever could. "So.. All that talk about dreams... What if your dreams just sound silly?" she finally piped up, looking to her two companions.
