Victor's teeth flashed again as the moon flitted between the high clouds. "That moment when your train of thought just breaks up like piss in the wind, eh?" He rumbled out a deep chuckle, and joins Ezra in the quiet appreciation of the patter of Gladius' relief on the ocean, nodding slowly to himself as that moment seems to drag on and on. "Were you on the bottle all afternoon? G'Lord man." He shoots Gladius a playfully concerned look, before returning his attention to Ezra. "Ain't nobody dying, but if you figure it out I'll do what I can to set you on yer way. You're alright Ezra."

Ezra nodded, mirroring the sentiment. "Same to you Stone." This had been a nice change of pace, he hadn't had anyone to talk to like this for years, hell before that night he hadn't really had cares to dump on anyone. Not like he had now. He smiled in the dark, maybe things could turn around.

Gladis's stream came to the end with a last few spurts and trickles. "Eh, maybe I had a little too much to drink," he said, flashing a return smile, the moonlight illuminating his teeth against his darkened face. Gladius adjusted his shorts and turned back to the others. "Sorry 'bout that, was I interrupting something?," he asked curiously, walking toward the mast and leaning up against it.

"Nothin' that really bears repeatin'." Victor gave a heavy stretch. "Been at the helm most of the day, figure I'll get some shuteye if you're settled Gladdy. 'Nother long day of open ocean tomorrow, plenty of time to share woes then. Was just checkin' if Ezra planned to scoot when we made landfall or not. Hard to tell what's happenin' here on out."

"Is it that early already? I thought I had a few more hours left...," he said in a disappointed tone. He sighed. "I guess I can take over...let me go get my gear."
On his way to get his things, he paused to look at Ezra. "For what it's worth, I hope you decide to stick around. I like ya. I think you'd make a great addition to my pirate crew," he said with a grin. With that said, he headed back into the deck house. From inside there could be heard the occasional clatter of metal, followed by an "Ouch" every so often as Gladius got dressed properly.

It seemed like things were looking up, this group didn't seem so bad. Walking over to stand next to the two sleeping Pokemon curled together on the deck. He again looked out over the lapping waves. Letting everything out had been nice, it was the first time he'd had a conversation like that in years, time had taught him that it usually turned out badly. Maybe this time it might be different. He listened to the rattling of Gladius gearing up. They really did need a better ship if they were going to actually become a crew, they couldn't use this thing forever. Maybe he could convince Gladius to invest his new fortune in one? Ezra decided that he would see when they reached the next island with a decent port.

Shortly thereafter, Gladius walked back outside to relieve Victor's watch, fully clad in his armor, and with sword and shield.
"Alright, I'll take over. You can go ahead and turned in," he said, shaking his head vigorously to throw off the last vestiges of sleep.

As the crew returned to their commandeered ship and sailed away from Old Man Wu's trade ship, Gladius fidgeted uncomfortably on the deck. Eventually, after clearing his throat a few times, he spoke up.
"Alright, so...there's somethin' I feel like you guys should know, seeing as how we'really gonna be a crew together," he started awkwardly.
"It's...my name ain't Gladius," he said, "not really. It's a nickname I got from an old man when I was little, just before...well...," he trailed off. It took him a short while to pick up his train of thought.
"Anyway, my name's really Yoss. Glay D. Yoss," he said, waiting to see how they reacted.

Gina had slipped below deck to set up the egg warmer and get her egg taken care of, Dolly remaining there to protect the eggs, and was back topside as Gladius began to speak. He seemed uncomfortable, to say the least, and as he announced his true name, Gina simply blinked...Was his nickname really just a slight tweak on his actual name? Was his name a pun given to him by his parents who saw the chance and took it? Did he actually notice the fact his name was a pun?
"So, do you want us to call you Yoss or stick with Gladius, then?" Gina asked, not seeming phased by the D he revealed. The poor girl didn't know better.
...Speaking of which, if they were revealing things, it might be a good time to tell everyone about the letter...She was originally just going to talk to Victor about it in private, but the others had a right to know as well. With that in mind, she began digging around in her boobs to find out where the heck that letter went.

As he stepped onto the deck Ezra saw how stiff Gladius was being, the mark obviously shook him quite a bit. Ezra knew what it was like to have to keep secrets all the time. He rubbed the back of his neck and stretched it, he really wasn't used to all this. He walked over to the place where Ann and the Skelp were sitting together, they seemed slightly concerned but he patted them to reassure and comfort them. He stood up when Gladius spoke up again and turned to face him. He listened intently, but from what he understood people went by nicknames all the time. It seemed like not only was his life steeped in secrecy, Gladius really just wanted to get them all off his chest. Ezra felt a pang shoot through him at that thought but it quickly passed. Ezra blinked after Gladius and Gina finished. "So, you're nickname is from mashing your full name together? I don't see why that's a problem. What does the D. Stand for?" After thinking for a moment he added. "Not that it really matters all that much."

"Probably best you just stick to Gladius when we take to port." Victor commented knowingly and folded his arms across his broad chest as he took to leaning against the wheelhouse. "The 'D' is taken as an omen on the seas, draws attention to a person. Lot of powerful individuals have shared that middle initial over the years. Good bit of it is probably heresay, but I seen what Gladdy can do. That n'with your mark, I feel like your name spells trouble." Giving a languid stretch, he rubbed his chin. "Sizable risk in owning up to that initial. Might be to your benefit to bring it up sometime, if sparingly."

(Later that night after everyone had finished talking Ezra sat on the side of the ship watching the ocean with Ann and their new friend.) The events of the last day and a half ran through Ezra's head as he watched the ship bob up and down slowly as it cut through the water. He looked over at the small pair of Pokemon sitting by his side, Ann sat there content and the Skrelp seemed to still be a bit wary. After a moment of thought, he made up his mind. "Hey, I know you've kind of been torn out of your home. But you're here now with us, so why don't we make the best of it? I feel like we could turn this around and make something good out of it. What do you say? So, what do you say? Would you be willing to join us?" Ezra pulled out a Pokeball and gave the Skrelp a friendly smile. 16 Charm

The Skrelp considers the pokeball for a long moment, before turning half-lidded eyes towards Ann inquisitively. At her bobbing nod and happy grin, the small creature nods, pressing its snout to the pokeball, and allowing itself to be captured. "You're probably right...I'll keep using 'Gladius'," he said, deferring to Victor. For now, at least, he thought to himself. "I don't really know what it means, or what the 'D' stands for, only that my dad had it in his name too, and that the old guy told me to keep it a secret," he said, scratching his head.
"I was a little kid, and this old guy gave me one that would be easy for me to remember at the place where I was...," he said, trailing off as he responded to Ezra. Then he looked over at Gina.
"I guess we'll just stick with Gladius. That would probably be best," he said.

Gina nodded and paused, taking out one of the more important letters from before, which was remarkably dry for being jammed in her cleavage. She made a note to remember the D, just in case, and to try not to ask too much about Gladius's past. Maybe in time, but it wasn't particularly important to where they were now.
This, however...
"Oh, so you all remember there was some paperwork inside that chest Gladius took, right? Well, I looked over the letters, and we may have a slight problem..." Gina started, handing the letter to Gladius first, which had..Well, exactly what Gina was about to talk about on it. Presumably, it would be passed around to the others as well so they can see for themselves. "It seems the Captain was talking with some guy called The Gentleman about, well, me, going by the description. Red hair, purple eyes, weird powers; seems to line up. I could write off the hair and eyes as a coincidence, but not really the powers. And either way, if I am this girl this Gentleman guy is looking for or not, the Marines - or at least Damien - seems to think I am, which doesn't look good for me." She explained, crossing her arms.
"...I don't really know who would be looking for me, or why, since I've just grown up on Shimotsuki all my life. Mom once mentioned my dad was a womanizing pirate, but you'd think a pirate would just try and come after me himself, especially since home's normally been pretty lax with pirates as long as they don't cause trouble. And I don't know why he'd show up NOW, so long after he and Mom split. So, hell, maybe it's just some creep who saw me in the bar and didn't like me turning him down or whatever. Don't like my chances after getting captured no matter WHO this guy really is, though." She sighed, shaking her head before looking around at her new crew. "So, I guess until this is all figured out, I'm stuck here with you all. Sorry."

Victor grunts an approval to Gladius' decision to keep his true name a secret for now. Those sorts of things carry power and weight in the wrong hands, he'd begun straightening himself up to depart from their meeting. It had been a long and tiring day, and as Gina began speaking of her own concerns it would prove to be longer still. "Weird powers draw attention. If this 'Gentleman' isn't a figure of power or import already, he'll use you as a gateway to it. Parent or not. It's in the nature of the more ruthless pirates."
They were all hunted for one reason or another, wasn't that just a pain? At least Ezra's concerns were a little more mundane, unless there was more to it that he hadn't said yet. "Nobody got anything to apologize for today. Just keep yer wits about you, and you'll do fine Gina."

"Yeah, that's nothing to apologize for," Gladius said, echoing Victor. He read the letter and passed it on to the others. "So what if some 'Gentleman' guy is coming after you? If he tries to take you away and you don't want to go, then he's gonna have to go through me first," Gladius said, flexing his right arm. "Nobody messes with my friends...or with my crew," he said with a confident, reassuring smile.

"I mean, it really doesn't matter why he's chasing us. We'd still have someone on our heels for taking that chest anyway." Ezra leaned back against the ship's railing, only minor beads of sweat forming at the thought of even more reasons for people to chase them. "Either way it's not your fault that people are after you, you can't help who you are and who your parents were." After a short while of mulling over the issue, Ezra finished. "I'll help where I can as well."

At the reassurances of her newfound friends, Gina seemed to relax, though dark thoughts still haunted her. Who in the world was actually after her, and why couldn't they have just come and spoken with her earlier peacefully? Why did they get the Marines involved? What would've happened to her had the others NOT been imprisoned that same night? So many questions, so few answers...Though on the bright side, the bard may yet get her chance to perform in far-off lands.
Gina nodded and gave a smile to the group, hiding her own worry. "Thanks; can't do much to help out, but I'll do what I can." She vowed, scanning over her other three crewmates. The others were capable enough to handle themselves both on and off the ship; Victor had the most seafaring experience and could hold his own in a fight, Gladius was certainly a tough fighter and seemed to know his way around a ship pretty well, and Ezra seemed to be some sort of well-traveled medical professional. Meanwhile, Gina had a guitar. Maybe she could pick up cooking to try and help out on the ship, learn a bit more about whatever her powers were, or at least get them a discount or two like she did before...Whatever she could to repay these weird, friendly men she was now stuck with for the foreseeable future.
Speaking of being stuck with them..."Oh, who's taking first watch tonight?"
