Good Evening, ladies and gentlemen, my name is Rob Swanton, and these are the news for tonight.
Scientists have found a mysterious cave, leading into the very depth of the world, north of Hoenn's Rustboro City, deep in the Jungle of the mainland. Scientists have stated that they found various Pokemon living nearby that are reported to originally not live in this region. First Expeditions have shown that this Subterranean world is a melting pool for Pokemon and that the diversity there is higher than in any other recorded place upon the world. Worldwide has a call gone out to explore these cave systems, we have spoken with some of the champs, to see their opinion. For example Mr. Gary "Blue" Oak. Mr. Oak, thank you for your time to air with us tonight, what do you think is happening down there."
"Oh, it's pretty clear that some time ago all kinds of Pokemon must have sought refuge from a disaster, and found it there. A very large disaster. In fact, my Grandfather Professor Oak, has recently found evidence that some 150 - 200 thousand years ago a dramatic cataclysm must have happened, and his investigations show that the signs of that cataclysm can be found up to a distance of 30 miles from that cave. At that point they stop, which means this cave was an easy safe haven for Pokemon back then, and they have since then increased in population free of predation from certain scrubs. Hehe. But what we will find there, no idea other than that it's going to be untouched nature."
"Are you planning on joining the first wave of explorers sir?"
"Heaven's no. I leave that to the scrubs, I have a gym to lead and my own studies to complete."
"We thank you kindly, that was Gary Oak, Gym Leader of Viridian.
The news have of course sparked the hearts of many young explorers and researchers, but also voices of protest can be heard throughout the land, as Activists rally against public access to the caves. I will switch to Sonnya Hart. Sonnya, what are the activists demanding? Why are they protesting?"
"Rob, these activist are on the edge. They are angry, angry about a government granting access to such a Pokemon sanctuary. They demand controlled and Limited access at the VERY least, claiming that such a sanctuary needs to be protected from human incursion. As you can hear, the group of 700 people of all ages have gathered here by Rustboro's parliament, protesting, urging Chancellor Roy Merrik to pass a law to stop needless incursion. So far the Chancellor has not moved, but I found the organizer of the protest, a man calling himself *M*. Mr. M, you say we need to shut the hole up and limit access to it?"
"Correct, It can not be allowed that we humans defile another sanctuary for Pokemon. Just think back what happened with Mt.Silver? Or the various safari zones with the reports of Pokemon Abuse. These are commonplace occurrences across the country, and such a society can not be allowed entry. We will for now try to urge the Chancellor to pass restricting laws, but should he fail then we are ready to restrict access with sheer man power."
"So your are threatening to camp out there and stop people?"
"If that's what it takes to preserve another sanctuary, Yes."

Reports like these have shown up quite a lot after the discovery. A huge hype has erupted, and thrill hounds as well as glory seekers flock to the cave, lovingly called the "Pit". The chancellor did pass minor restricting laws, a requirement for a background check and a short evaluation, to enter, but still many have flocked there it seems. All was well until the first returned. They were shaken to the bones, wounded, and returned with stories of powerful pokemon teeming within the bowels of the world. The world below was not a kind world welcoming new comers, it was a savage world, rife with the instinct to survive. Many have died, or have gone lost, and the sheer stream of explorers has dwindled to only those most daring or most fit for such a world.

You have made it this far, Donzoko Gate, the last checkpoint before the "Pit", entrance to the subterranean world that was recently discovered. You made the trek to this remote location, there are no real streets yet leading there, but a PokeCenter and Inn have been built next to it. You sometimes wonder how quickly these things get built up.
You go straight to the checkpoint, eager to finish the Evaluation and get down there ASAP. The checkpoint is clean, almost sterile, the white walls almost blinding all those that enter, a small reception desk is set up in the middle, a barrier barring entry left and right to it. An enchantingly adorable young lady is at the desk, a bodyguard of sorts sitting behind her, flipping pages of some magazine listlessly. She greets you, the little plaque states her name as Cassandra :"Welcome to Donzoko Gate, and congratulation making it this far. I am sure you will have no issue passing the evaluation. If the ladies could step to the right of this desk and the gentlemen to the left to have their physical examination please."
She hands each a little brochure, in it are just general information about Donzoko Gate, the Pit, how it was found and so on. Also a short explanation why a physical examination is required, to prevent the entry of foreign pathogens, virus or harmful parasites into the enclosed ecosystem present in the depths. The members of the corresponding gender move to the assigned sides, through a small door way and find themselves in a changing room.
"Please strip to your underwear and have a seat until it's your turn.", is the greeting you receive from a doctor, diplomas and awards line the wall above his/her desk. After you strip, you are checked for external signs, reflexes, a blood sample is taken and checked with a large machine, looks like it's state of the art, then a short check for muscular and joint function, and you are told to get dressed again.
Back in the reception hall you are given each a pack of contracts, the usual "You can't sue us if it goes bad" clause things, several signatures are required, you also have to specify a person to be informed, if you should pass away, and who is to be responsible to manage your remaining possessions. After that is done you are asked to stay at the Inn for the remainder of the day, it has gotten quite late now. And the tests weren't done yet, they would be informed the next morning.
The Inn part of the building is a warmly decorated room, a bar in the far corner and many tables in the middle, seems like the rooms will be on the top floor. Several other trainers have gathered here, eating and drinking, exchanging news and stuff. The things trainers do when among themselves.
