"You live in a world free of magic but have the imagination to talk about this whole situation like it's a game?" Freya, who'd mostly been quiet since their journey towards the mountain began, stared at Frank in disbelief.
His tumble just made her shake her head at the other two, and glance at the wings that were carrying her at the time. She'd gotten used to them well enough at point that casual flight wasn't troublesome any more, but anything beyond that, this early...
"It might not serve you well, laughing at the creature strong enough to eat the monster you'd manage to mildly annoy earlier," Freya suggested, her comment aimed at Hura in particular. "No one's in their element, just yet. Not until we learn more about the kind of situation we're waist deep in."
She shook her head at his later question. "Not in particular. I'm more of a soldier than a..." Freya broke off when the light up ahead caught her eye. She clung to a tree and lowered her tone. "That could be more company...."

Chell merely smirks slightly as Frank goes on his ass, content in having Hura draw most of his ire. She tilts her head thoughtfully at the bug's further rambling. "You don't need magic to crush someone... or burn them... or send them into outer space..." Yeah, you only need a psycho AI in charge of a Aperture Science facility and a Portal Gun...
Chell shakes her head at Frank's question. "Nah, I was no leader. Did overthrow a tyrant though... twice... the same tyrant... then helped put said yrant back in poewr when her replacement made a mess of the place... the replacement I had helped put in power... shutting up now..."
Chell frowns slightly at the sudden change in scenery, shrugging at Frank's question before jumping up in the trees, jumping from branch to branch towards the clearing.

Midna doesn't clarify her statement to Frank. They didn't need to here the full details. She instead tries to relay Chells ramblings,"Chell makes a fair point that magic isn't needed for all kinds of destructive things. You've found plenty of ways to kill each other," and response to the question, "Apparently our bunny friend is a rebel, though of a confused one. She's instated a queen and tore her down before setting her up again. Bit of an odd way to do it," faithfully.
In the rush to get Chell's point across Midna almost didn't notice the sudden change in the forest. At least until everyone else pointed it out and the rabbit had leaped away. "It could be. Or it could be abandoned like that flying thing." She shrugs and glances towards the trees, We won't know until we check it out. Best stick close to our rabbit friend this time. She reaches out to Chell's mind and lingers, how else are they gonna know if she's in trouble.

Chell - You leap to a higher position to take note of the clearing. You see that it's not just a single small clearing but the edge of a LONG one. It seems cutting has just begun in this area, creeping in from the east (Keeping in mind you've all come from the south), where there's just nothing but ditches and stumps. Whoever is cutting seems to be doing so in a line, which is very odd in itself.

Chell frowns a bit at the remarkably unnatural sight before her. Seems like someone has been doing a lot of lumbering... in a rather strange way... Relaying what she has seen to Midna, who she can feel still lingers in her mind, she jumps down from the tree and walks to one of the stumps to inspect it, see if she can find anything odd about it. Not much concerned with the state of the trees, or at least, not yet, Hura begins his latest babbling session. "Haha, and why's that, bat? Don't you believe in laughing with your friends? Why, if we can't laugh at this predicament, how will we ever get over it?"
Ignoring the rather peculiar issues of succession their bunny had witnessed (how does one dispose of a ruler, and then put them back in charge? Well, and survive, but a dead monarch isn't all that dangerous...), he instead commented on his own status. "Important, me...? Hmm~ I guess you could say I'm an important diplomat, right now!" A pause, and he added, "...well. I would have been. Unless this was the right place after all? I'd have something to say about their welcoming parties, that's for sure!"
During his animated talk, Hura had approached closer to the clearing. They had said to follow the bunny, but it wasn't like he could leap through the trees right now. Or even knock them over. Stupid, weak little prison-body. After she jumped down, though, he determined that the risk of a watching bird was too great for someone like him to risk venturing into the clearing alone (Or something... Maybe I should find a better excuse?), and stayed at the treeline, watching their forward-most and silent-most companion.

Chell - Other than what's noted, you dont finding anything else off about it. There are no lumberers currently, but considering they probably need to haul wood back and take breaks, it's not that odd.

After conferring with the group, Frank says, "Well, why don't we follow the line to its ending point? Perhaps we'll find some source of intelligent life that can tell us what in the world is going on?"

"It could take us away from the mountain... but that could be for the better if we find civilization first. Or at least someone or something civilized." Freya nodded. "I for one don't fancy climbing it without any idea of what's waiting for us, there."

Midna yawns as Hura makes a joke about a party, "You're right, this wouldn't be the best of parties. Of course, it could be a lot worse." Fortunately she is saved from having to explain how exactly by Chell's descent. "If she's hopped down the clearing ought to be pretty safe. Whatever felled this lot must be out. Or finished."
Midna limps along towards the rabbit. Although this time she isn't really paying attention. Chell hadn't seen anything before, it was probably safe.

You all head into the clearing and find that the 'line' you are in extends FAR to the east, and seems to go all the way to the ocean. It'll take a few hours at least to make it there, if not the better part of your day to make it to the end, if you all resolve to keep that up.
Setting off, there's a quiet hour as you trek through the thin clearing, wondering at why they chose a 'line' of all things, when you all hear something in the distance. They haven't seemed to notice you, but you found the harvesters! A group of metal ants are dragging the wood toward the ocean, being directed by what look like teal stone golems. One of the ants is struggling with one of the logs and falls on its back, which earns it a whack from one of the smaller ones.

"Logging's a complicated enterprise for a bunch of mindless monsters..." Freya whispered. She'd made it a point to perch on a branch as close to the bugs and their... overlords? Bosses?
If those oversize saucers on her head were enough to hear the heart beat in a spider's ass, maybe she could overhear them if they were talking amongst themselves.

You don't seem to have a full grasp on your bat-like abilities yet, and your ears pop a little. Doesn't look like they are saying anything anyway. Oh well. Next time.

Watching the 'harvesters' at work, Hura comments, "Hee hee, isn't this a familiar sight! I wonder where they're taking all this wood?" A pause and then he continues, "And why they're coming so far for it? Maybe the one in charge is just a dummy! Say! We all arrived at the same time, right? None of you just camped out in that clearing where we met, and woke up surrounded by a bunch of lu-... Us?"
Not really fancying an introduction, especially if it could lead to hard physical labor, Hura was just fine staying with the others. The non-fliers, anyways; this insect body was really underwhelming... Could I even move something that heavy anymore?

Midna waves off Freya's question, "You'd be surprised what 'mindless' monsters can do. It's all a matter of perspective. Besides those round guys don't exactly look like animals."
The social dynamic of the logging party aside, Midna too is left wondering their purpose. The other beings didn't seem big enough to need all that wood. Unless there were a lot more of them... "Unless one of us took a nap, it would seem we arrived at the same time. That would be devious," she mocks concern. The look lingers but a moment before she moves on, "As far as these loggers are concerned, best we avoid them. They might have something to do with us being here."

"You think so? I'd like to walk up and introduce ourselves, and see what happens. If worse comes to worst, we can fight them or run. This could be our chance to get off this island. At the very least they more than we do. If you four don't want to, I at least intend to talk to them. You can come with me or wait in the shadows."

Chell frowns as she sees the signs of abuse and slavery, though that frowns quickly disappears and is replaced by an uncaring shrug as she realises the creatures are obviously robots. "Why bother talking to them? They're just robots." She isn't a huge fan of automatons of any sort.

"The insects' handlers don't seem all that concerned with their welfare..." she shook her head at the way the fallen one in particular had been treated, "but they're as close to anything civilized as we've seen so far. I agree we should try treat with them at first... but if we all go out at once and they aren't so inclined to speak on friendly terms, that's the whole party compromised. Perhaps it might be wise to send two mediators while the rest watch over them in case things turn hostile?"

"Are you volunteering to accompany me then?" Frank smiles at Freya. "So be it!"
Frank strides out into the worksite, headed directly towards the golems with purpose.

"I was going to suggest...!" he was already moving before she could say any more, mouth agape, blinking rapidly at his recklessness.
But she flew out to join him anyway, whispering in a hurried voice as she beat her wings, "Keep on the look out. Don't be seen unless we're sure they're not looking for slaves or worse."
