Cecil remains at the door for a moment, examining the latching mechanism, the knob, and the door itself. From there he inspects the walls where the tables had been mounted before, and the floor around the barricade. "Considering the door still locks, I don't think it was forced. Would've been shut if they setup a barricade to keep something from coming in. Glass doesn't look roughed up. Guessing whatever it was let itself in nice and polite like." lW8rJjrI4d6 Intuition. 3d6 Perception. Cecil, as you look at the area, you notice that there's a strange discolored patch on the floor around the remains. You almost missed it if not for feeling the slight difference in your shoe's grip on the floor when you stepped forward to take a closer look. You also notice fine cracks in the skulls where they meet the floor. It almost looks like they were borne down by something heavy enough to smash their heads against the floor. Adding in the discoloration and changed texture of the floor, and you're thinking that whatever did this was spread out over both of them, and was probably acidic to at least some degree. Bunnie, as you look around, you spot that there's a vent above the spot where the skeletons are positioned, with discolored and slightly melted plastic edges. Presumably what's left of the grate that used to cover it. ǬȂȈƳȇǻǼȁǾƳȌȂȈƳǴǿȆȂƳǻǸǴȅǷƳȆȂȀǸȇǻǼȁǺƳǼȁƳȇǻǸƳȉǸȁȇƿƳǴƳȆȇȅǴȁǺǸƳȆǿȈȅȃǼȁǺƳȆȂȈȁǷƿƳǹȂǿǿȂȊǸǷƳǵȌƳǴƳȇǸȅȅǼǹȌǼȁǺǿȌƳǻȈȀǴȁƳǺǼǺǺǿǼȁǺƳȀȂǴȁǁƹȁǵȆȃǎƳǪǻǴȇǸȉǸȅƳǼȇƳȊǴȆƿƳǼȇƺȆƳȁȂȇƳǶǿȂȆǸǁǁǁƳȌǸȇǁǏǵȅǑè Christine, the corpses have been stripped of every possible scrap of soft tissue. There's not even pieces of ligament, which in this environment would have mummified rather than rotting away entirely. You see that there's some definite etching on the bones as if they were dunked in an acid wash, while the flanges of the fingers and toes are nearly completely dissolved, indicating that whatever this was, it remained parked on the two unfortunates for a while. However you don't think that they were killed by whatever stripped them of their flesh. Rather the cause of death looks like it was probably their heavily fractured skulls, the backs of which are completely flat to the floor when you take a close inspection. Kat, while the others play detective, your own investigations have turned up something interesting as well. When you put your hand on the cabinet, you find to your surprise that it's cold. Not just cool metal, but actually chilled! It takes a few tries to wrench it open, but inside you find a strange sight. The entire interior of the cabinet is coated in a thin layer of frost. The source of it seems to be some kind of broken weapon, a pistol-shaped thing that's had the barrel snapped in half. A piece of ice, cool and crystalline, pokes out of the barrel, and the frost buildup is highest around it. You find some helmets and armored jumpsuits as well; and under them, another clip of syringer darts. Kat has found 1 Broken Cryolator Pistol 1 Piece of Nevermeltice - Ice Type Booster 3 Vault 116 Security Helmets - acts as Helmet 3 Vault 116 Security Armored Jumpsuits - acts as Light Armor (+5 Physical DR) 5 sleep Syringer Darts Amber, with some focus and a little bit of guesswork, the security encryption falls before you. It's definitely starting to look like Gene-Tek's computer systems were intentionally integrated into the Vault makeup. Perhaps a partnership when they were built? Either way, you find a number of entries, including a security log and several general announcements. Security Mission Vault 116 is designed to explore the possibility and results of genetic enhancement and integration on unaware, human subjects. Security staff are responsible for maintaining installation integrity, maintaining containment of all subjects, and monitoring science staff activity. Any and all infractions are to be reported to the Overseer for deliberation and sentencing. Personnel Intake instructions Phase 1 intake is the intake of all essential personnel. Any pokemon carried are to be turned over to the Security division, and from there to be transported to the Genetic Assay Lab. After samples have been taken and catalogued, any pokemon in the approved list (see pamphlet 31b) may be retained for use by science personnel, maintenance, or security forces. All others are to be kept in the Lab for experimentation purposes.
Phase 2 intake involves all non-residential experimental subjects. These individuals are to be moved to Holding Block A for females, and Block B for males. Contianment is to be maintained at all times. Remember, these are dissidents and prisoners, people determined to undermine the authority and well-being of the nation. Anyone caught fraternizing with these prisoners will be held responsible by the Overseer and punished accordingly, with up to lethal action authorized.
Phase 3 intake is for all non-prisoner personnel that will enter the Vault in the occurrence of an actual major biological attack. These individuals will be transported down from the secure room in groups of five, and gassed before reaching the entry atrium. Security personnel will have five minutes to seperate males from females, search them for any weapons or pokemon, and secure them for transport to their designated holding area. Children are to be separated and moved to the "Nursery Wing", aka Block C. Any pokemon are to be turned over to the Genetic Assay Lab, and any weapons are to be logged in the armory. All other possessions are to be incinerated. 10/23/2077
Well, it happened. Not sure what "it" was, but we all got our asses down here pronto. Luckily no one was left out in the cold, but it was a close thing. Those already down here on guard duty thought we were pulling their legs at first. Poor Randy broke down bawlin' when he realized we were dead serious. Guy had a wife and kid left up top.
Intake went smoothly, all these poor saps were sleeping like babies when they came out of the elevator. Not that many kids, and the few that we got are babies. Kind of better and worse at the same time... Either way, gonna get them situated, then see what Overseer Kirkwell wants my boys to do. I figure we're gonna be down here a looong time. 1/14/2078Been down here in this rathole for the better part of three months. The Docs are having a blast, if the sounds coming from the labs are any indication. Poor bastards. But I've noticed something weird going on. Well maybe not too weird. Kirkwell's starting to loosen up some. Guess being stuck down here all the time, she realized that if she didn't remove the stick it'd start making things difficult for her. She and Doc Sampson seem to have hit it off. Guess it takes all kinds. Hopkins is still angry over how we're handling things, and he's pretty much turned himself into a freaking nanny, taking care of those babies. I really don't think he knew what he was getting into. 4/7/2078Goddamn it. Kirkwell wasn't loosening up, the dumb bitch had decided that she should start experimenting on herself apparently! Walked into the mess this morning with frakking pink hair! Didn't even seem to think anything was wrong. Sampson took charge, guided her to the labs, and they did some tests. No idea what's going to happen now. Hopkins looks worried. Can't blame him, if she was experimenting on herself, who knows what she was slipping the rest of us... 5/17/2078
Gotta say, with Smapson as the new Overseer, the atmosphere here has taken on more of a party vibe. The poor shits in Block B have pretty much all been "morphed" like the earlier test subjects; but they're pretty tractable and a great help in keeping some of the more squeamish eggheads in line. Sampson's taking the Vault's directive in a whole new direction; and overall I can't say I can complain too much. Turned out that Kirkwell was also experimenting on one of my own fragging people. Jennifer's hair turned a deep blue color, and her eyes changed color too. Of course we immediately packed her off to the labs, who knows if that shit's contagious. And even if it isn't, what happened to Kirkwell... well she doesn't even respond to the name anymore. Keeps on insisting her name is "Joy" and offering "physicals". Sampson's had to put a frakking collar on her to keep her under control. ()&^&*%(*%^$(*&^[Data Corrupted]11/28/2080
That son of a bitch. I thought Hopkins was just squeamish... turns out he's a fuckin' traitor. There'd been a bunch more Joys and Jennies popping up in the subjects in Block A. Some of em are still able to talk and even act like they're still human. Hopkins was using them as nannies, including the original. Bastard tampered with the lockdown on the Freak tubes, and then while we were all occupied with that, broke open Block B and A, and staged a breakout. Right now me and Atkinson are holed up in the security office while we wait for backup. Hopefully we can get these slimy freaks back into their tubes before something irreplaceable is broken. Wait, hearing a noise. Fuck, the vents!

Amber makes a humming noise of glee at the soft chime of the decryption and cracks her knuckles as the others examine the room. She peers at the available files, noting the corruption ruining a significant chunk of information, and sets out to read.
As she reads, her face grows paler, her knuckles turning white where they grasp the edge of the table and the mouse respectively. She licks her lips nervously, and finally turns to glance over at Kat and Cecil.
"Hey, um...so...Kat. Have you heard of a pokemon called Joy or Jenny?" She glances back at the open file on the desktop.

Hmmm... Christine thinks back to when Kat showed her that table. "It seems that we're dealing with... something with a toxic base. I wonder if it's something along the lines of the blob weapon given to..." she trails off, and doesn't actually say 'Joe'. "So, you'd know better than I, and - correct me if I'm wrong, Kat - if you've got any earth based Pokémon, that should help. I think Clement's our only psychic one, though."
Backing away from the body, she instead goes over to Amber, trying to lose the unsettling feeling she's picked up. "Have you found anything interesting? Any hints as to what we've found in here? What might've happened?"

Bunnie backs away from the vent, pointing it out for everyone.
"There's something in there. It.. Giggled. It doesn't sound close, but it creeps me right the hell out."

Kat pockets the block of ice but hesitates at the other items when the question is posed. "Joy and Jenny? Nah, I mean, those just sound like regular people names to me, y'know? You sure you didn' just misread or some shit? Ah, and c'mere when you get a chance. A broken thingy for you to tinker with to your heart's content when we got better time. Also... armored suits. Kind ugly, but that's Vault clothing for ye... anyone want one? There's three. And more of those darts for your little gun, Christine."
She gathers the gear in her arms and brings them to the others, offering them up. "I'd by lyin' if I said I didn't want one of these outfits just to survive on the front line, but y'all get first dibs. I can take a few hits when necessary."

Amber frowns, glancing over at Bunnie's comment and paling further. "G-get away from the vent," She stutters out, glancing at the computer and back. "There's something--like that girl at the bar, the pokerus victim. They make them here, but it sounds like they're...different. More human--they travel in the vents."

"What? Giggling?" Christine asks, looking askance at Bunnie. "Like... people giggling?"
"Oh, thanks, Kat," she says, pocketing the darts. "And I don't need one of those. If I'm the one getting hit... well, there's a bigger problem than armour will solve. I'd rather not have to do my job, in the first place, so probably better that you take it."
"What.. what's that, Amber?" she asks, heading back to the computer the girl's sitting at, "They use the vents? That's... not a good thing. But, good to know. And... more human? Well... that's not a good thing. Hopefully we can tell them apart from regular humans. Anything else on them - and this place - in there that I can look at?" She leans over to scroll through the files, assuming the girl sitting at the console doesn't stop her.

Christ this place gave him the willies. After his initial pass of the room Cecil settled in behind Amber after her small but triumphant sound at having accessed the system. Blotches of read started to spread across his otherwise pale cheeks and forehead, and his jaw tightened as he read on, only looking up when Bunnie mentioned hearing noise from the vents. "Might want to take the armor Christine. I don't think our boys here had a chance to react, kinda hard when you're living in a bees nest. I'm going to go check our corners from the main lobby, make sure we're still clear. I'll stay in sight of the station."Slipping back out of the station with a shake of his head, he made a 'stay' motion at the Aron which still sat by the door, and started a round of the room to make sure the adjoining hallways and doorways were still clear, moving slow and silent as always. aE6ekYZK4d6+4 Stealth 3d6 Perception

Cecil slips away from the others as they debate how to use the materials Kat has found, and grapple with the horrific implications that Amber has turned up. Creeping about on cat's feet, the teen makes his way to the wrenched open doors under the balcony. The doors are a wreck, sitting tilted in their tracks, there's no way they can be repaired without dismantling the whole assembly, leaving a gap easily wide enough for a person (or two of Amber) to slip past without any problem. Running his hands along the ruined metal, Cecil finds five slender indentations on both sides of the central seam. As if dainty hands had sunk into the metal... and pulled. Beyond it lies a corridor stretching lengthwise, with signs pointing to the left reading "Block A", "Barracks", "Armory" and "Mess Hall" while those pointing to the right read "Block B", "Block C", "Medical" and "Utilities". Suddenly, the power flickers, the lights dimming and brightening erratically, throwing strange shadows. From deep inside the vault comes a low vibrating "KER-CHUNK!!!"[/b], a sound more felt than heard. Amber, you've heard a similar noise once before. When one of the generators threw a driving rod, causing the whole assembly to lock up until someone re-cycled the chamber and unstuck the whole mess. Not a complex task though. Cecil, faintly you hear a soft "clack" from your right, a sound that for some reason takes you back to Purewater, and Cindy's fashion show. The sound of a high-heeled shoe on a hard surface. Whipping your head, you think you see shapely shadows against a wall where the corridor branches, before the lights flicker again and they're gone.

Cecil made a point of tentatively scanning the hall in either direction, first left with his usual adroit movements, then a sudden snap to the right and a distinct stiffening of his posture. Slowly he backed from the entryway and under the balcony, knife coming out with a small click. Again he froze to examine the low ceiling for vents. Had anyone been watching him from the security station, he gave a nod and a shift of his eyes to the wall beside him, then towards the door he'd left. Words would come when he was finished, and a bit less spooked. He moved towards the closet. m1pa|jdJ3d6 Perception 4d6+4 Stealth 3d6·4d6+4

Amber gestures towards the computer, letting Christine read as desired and stands on shaking legs. "I wouldn't be opposed to some protection," She mutters, glancing between the vent and out at Cecil, "But I don't think that I'm necessarily going to be in the thick of things as often as you are. It might benefit you more."
She'll cautiously tuck the broken gun in her pocket to fiddle with later.
"Sounds like a generator might have just kicked it," She mutters at the sudden noise. "Fixable, but...maybe not right now." poZCkJfT5d6 Perception5d6

Christine silently scrolls through the files Amber had unlocked. After reaching the end, she goes back through a second time, to make sure she'd read right. "This is..." She isn't quite sure what to say. "I... this place. That machine up top, now this. It makes me wonder. Is this the norm, or is our vault? Or... could something like this be happening back home, and we didn't know? I'm sure it couldn't have been anything like this, I think I'd have noticed, but..." She trails off.
"Uh, but, we can worry about that later. Right now... well, I want to get out of here," she says bluntly. "But, this is probably one of a few chances to get the parts we need, so..." Christine sighs. "It's not good, either way. People being deliberately altered? And who knows what else was going on, unrecorded. At this point, if we see a... what we think is a person... we should be wary. Maybe ask them their name, if this thing is accurate. Hopefully we don't have to deal with any of this... but I doubt we'll be so lucky. I don't really want to think about it. This is just... I can't image what kind of person would run a sort of place as this."
"Part of me wants to try and see if I can figure out what happened to them, what was done, if we see one," she admits, "I want to try and keep us all as safe as possible, and stop something like that from happening to any of us. But... I really hope we don't need to get to that point. Because the rest of me is screaming inside. This is all wrong..."
The noise jolts her out of her thoughts, as she turns towards Amber. "A generator? Any idea, if this is anything like our own, if there'll still be enough power to get out?"

Bunnie freezes in her steps, lightly gripping her gun in her jacket. To no one in particular she talks, mostly to try and ease her own tension.
"What if our Pokemon aren't, you know, strong enough? You think Christine has enough of those tranqs to take out anything that comes this way?"

"If our pokemon ain't strong enough, we'll go down fighting like the rest of these sorry fellas with their bones all over the floor." Kat says with a shrug, then moves to don one set of the armored jumpsuits. She tries to ignore the niggling fear at the back of her mind at the revelations, steeling herself for even darker secrets to be revealed. The clunk does make her skin crawl, though-- especially with Christine's implication that they might not be able to get out. Cecil hears nothing as he moves closer to the closet quiet as a ghost, Kat slinking behind him on feet as silent as her namesake's. Her ears prove sharper as well, with the wild-maned girl picking up a soft "shush-hush" sound, like something breathing deeply and evenly, or maybe just the ventilation systems? Amber, in the sudden stillness after the mechanical sound, picks up a number of strange noises coming to her from various points, her long experience in the echoing maintenance tunnels and repair hatches giving her the ear to pick them apart. The lights have dimmed, but are still on as Cecil opens the door... to find a bizzare sight. A pair of bulbous floating... things, each one a pale green with two beady eyes and a broad grinning mouth, their bodies dotted with pores that open and close seemingly at random, and small buds and leaves that break up it's otherwise spherical shape. You can even see a swirling cloud of green, gray and purple gas, tinted by the creature's translucent skin, just under the surface. They eye you cautiously, even as one breathes out... and you're treated to a blast of fresh, sweet-smelling air, scented like the forests above.

Amber frowns, tilting her head to listen closely, and is /almost/ distracted enough that she doesn't notice the weird, floating...things. She does, though, and stares at them distrustfully, letting Cecil handle them as long as they aren't actively hostile.
"Christine, Bunnie," She mutters, frowning. "Did you hear that? Those were voices, I think. Those things the file talks about might still look human...or it might be survivors... should we push to head out, do you think? Or go after them?"

Christine doesn't notice anything amiss when Cecil opens the closet... instead, she's too busy going over the info in the computer, and getting distracted by the noises coming from the Vault. They didn't make her feel very good, as this was not normal for Vault life. She was feeling almost as worried as above-ground. Because rather than a safe place, this might be a cage, trapping them in with danger.
Amber provides a welcome distraction from that particular thought, though. Of course, the news isn't necessarily welcome... "Voices? Uh, I didn't hear anything, besides the shuddering stuff, but I'll trust you. You're probably better at hearing amiss noises in machines." She thinks momentarily. "Can you see how long ago the last log was? Because, well, if it was years ago, there's not likely to be survivors. But if it's only been a short time, it might be worth risking it. Besides... if we want the parts, we'll have to... to delve in anyways..." She doesn't sound very enthusiastic at the prospect.
Glancing again at the computer, she notices, "Oh, wait... there's the date. Uh," she swallows, "If these are using the same dating system we are - and I don't see why they wouldn't... The last log was almost two hundred years ago. I... don't think there'll be survivors." She scrolls through the other logs again, looking for the dates. "It looks like this place only lasted for... about three years. That doesn't bode well. At all."

There was a rattle of the knob as Cecil visibly jerked at the sight of the strange balls of plant matter, his knuckles white where he held the door, as he swallowed his heart again. Just a Pokemon Cece, get it together. The fuck even is that? A glance over his shoulder at Kat, before he forced himself to correct his posturing, and reached in to rub along a few of the creature's buds affectionately. He couldn't attend to both at the same time. "Hey bud... heh... no sun in a closet. What are you getting up to?" lb_mDz9q3d6+1 Charm, AP Spent 3d6+1
