I young human woman clad in the white and blue garb of the Azorious Senate greets you in front of a large opulent building with the insignia of each Guild of Ravnica blazoned around the door. She eyes each of you for a few seconds, surprisingly blase about the myriad of people in front of her. Wordlessly she leads you through the building, the home of Jace, the Living Guildpact of Ravnica. Eventually you all end inside a large room, one big enough to fit even Borborygmos if he were to suddenly need to meet with Jace. A young man in dark blue robes and sits at a plain wooden table filling out paperwork with a rather bored expression.
He doesn't seem to notice you all enter, and there is an awkward moment of silence before the woman clears her throat loudly and catches his attention.
"Hm? Oh, yes. Some of the Planeswalkers that passed the initial examinations."
He gets to his feet and walks around to the front of the table, leaning against it as he addresses you.
"You lot have been chosen to take part in what is, quite frankly, a monumental experiment for our kind. While, up to now, we've all been able to bring a single companion on any excursions to other Planes, with the help of the Izzet Guild," He nods at Cho Mizzem. "We've found a technology that can capture certain kinds of creatures inside them. Ideally, this technology will allow us to bring creatures to other Planes and habitats. The potential applications of this technology is, quite frankly, astounding. We've brought you this far into the Consortium, so we'd like you to perform one more task. Successful completion of the task will gain you full membership to our organization, and all the benefits that entails."
He reaches behind him on the table and grabs a box. He walks over and hands five Pokeballs to each of you.
"We have made contact with a few trusted individuals on the Plane this technology initially comes from. Among them are a Professor Oak, who studies a variety of creatures on that Plane they call Pokemon. Your test is to go to Arthea and meet with Professor Oak and assist him in a project. With his help we've created a safe location to Planeswalk to and from near his home of Pallet Town. Any questions?"

A pair of gray eyes met the women's, mirroring a look of indifference as similar to her own before looking once more to the other planewalkers that were recruited for this experiment. Ruta suddenly felt a sense of deja vu, the back of his mind dismissing the old colors of one's hair, the foreign clothes, and even the troll with a backward wave of his mental hand. The gathering reminded Ruta much of his ‘school years’ in the Orzhova and he have seen many of his ‘schoolmates’ fall the test to be turn into mindless thrulls. ‘This time it be nice if no one died… Not that i care either way…’
A light weight fell upon Ruta shoulders, Faultless black paws balanced comfortably upon his shoulders as dark wisp curled all of his body. At times Faultless was a comfort in strange environment but the rest of the time Ruta felt uncomfortably smuggled by Faultless especially when he wrapped himself across Ruta shoulders as he was doing now. Ruta felt the urge to shrug his and get the feline off him but resisted since he was in the presence of strangers. Ruta swore he heard Faultless give a snickering hiss as he moved to follow the guild women behind the other planewalkers.
Ruta was silent but for the hem his cloak brushing the floor, his impression of the place they were indifference with a silent question as to how a man as seemly important as Jace would have such a plain and small estate. Ruta spent his time in the awkward silence to take in the room, looking for some symbol of status when the women cleared her throat. Expecting the explanation of the experiment to follow Ruta settled in to listen, giving the slightest nod in understanding as Jace spoke.
Upon receiving the pokeballs, Ruta thoughtfully held the small orbs between his fingers with Faultless annoyingly swatting at his hand from his shoulder before tucking them into the pocket lining of his cloak. Ruta didn’t have any questions, at least none that needed to be answered at the moment. He was told by Teysa to follow Jace’s order and to assist him with his experiment. There was nothing more or less that Ruta needed to do. “...Sounds simple enough.” Ruta spoke with a despondent tone. “I have questions but I’m certain the answers are not for those outside the Consortium. So the sooner we be on our way the sooner we’ll get to hear the Consortium’s plan for these monsters.” Contempt somehow wormed it’s way into Ruta voice but by all visual appearance Ruta was just as somber as he when he first entered the building.

The old troll ponders the strange spheres he was handed. Stroking right tusk in thought before replying "Did dis proffessa state wat da job is? Or we'll be lernen on site mon?" he asks his one question as he sets the shrunken spheres onto the lattice work of his charms hanging off his crook. He then gets a good eye on the other planeswalkers. "Da izzet boy best not be maken trouba." Ori'cos taught to himself. He really didn't have beef with who had been selected but rumors of the Izzet's... perchance of recklessness had reached even his ears.

Arata studies the gathering with the shrewd eyes of a warrior. Being sure to stay his blade of course, much as a troll would have invoked some worry and definite strife back on Kamigawa. He would have to ensure it was not an oni later, but for now he would trust these guilds' judgement. Though if they were sending two of their own guild members on this task... While his blade is stayed, his hand still rests upon it idly, a pose mimicked by Shiki-kan as it follows him. When he receives the balls he places them into a small pouch at his side, convenient access might be useful for these tools. "You mentioned making a safe space, is his plane especially hard to get to?"

Jace shakes his head.
"Not particularly. Its likely that the people of the Plane wont be any real threat to you. Some of the Pokemon that live there are, most definitely, but I meant more along the lines of a place you could Walk to and not terrify a dozen people for no reason. While the Plane seems to have some gangs spring up from time to time, they're surprisingly uninterested in using any magic themselves. The Pokemon there seem to have deep connections to sources of mana from birth though, its honestly a curiosity.

As Cho-Mizzem walks into the room, she cranes her neck, taking in the large room. "So this is where the Living Guildpact works? Huh, thought it would be fancier."
When Jace got to the part with the pokeballs, the Izzet's eyes lit up. "Ooh, the new entity-storage-capsules, I heard a senior researcher talking about these! Apparently they work on something called the Onulet principle, where it sends out a net of charged Niv particles, which separate the entity into its constituent parts, and-" Looking up, she realizes Jace is in the middle of explanations. "Sorry, Mr. Guildpact, please do continue."

Bug looks at the man, tilting his head. While the wildboy had a head full of vibrant green hair, for the most part he looked human. He left the conversation alone, tending to his plant and his Root, but when the word Oak was mentioned he looked up. Oak. Noun. A type of tree, his mind told him. Trees? They were going to see a Tree? And this other word... Professor. Noun. One who teaches. THEY WERE GOING TO SEE A WISE TREE?! ONE THAT SPOKE?! He stood from his seat on the ground, settling Root on his shoulder in one smooth motion as he approached the desk. "This Oak knows much? Like how to grow forest? Oak can help Bug regrow Living Forest?" He asked, intent obvious in his eyes. He hadn't quite mastered the usage of Pronouns, but the rest of the language was pretty simple to grasp. It had taken him some time to get his vocal chords used to it though. And... These tests before... He cautiously spoke again, eyeing Jace distrustfully. "Oak not... ATTACK Bug like the OTHER tests, yes? Other tests good, but... Obnoxious." He said simply. Obnoxious was a fun word.

Jace shrugs at Bug's question.
"I can't really answer that question. His specialty of study seems to be the Pokemon themselves. Evidently he traveled Arthea searching for them to catalog as many of the creatures as he could. But there are a number of professors with various areas of study, perhaps one or two of the others may be able to give you a hand. You'd have to ask him yourself though. As far as your mission goes, these devices, Pokeballs as they are called on Arthea, are still very much in the prototype stage. We are relatively sure that they will transport the creatures inside between Planes, but that's not a guarantee. He's going to escort you somewhere on the Plane and your goals are going to be to find and capture at least one of the Pokemon each. Once you've completed your task, you're free to return here at your leisure. I feel this should go without saying, but I'll put it out there anyway. Should you fail to capture any of the Pokemon before returning, you wont be given entrance to the Consortium, meaning you lose access to all of its resources as well. It shouldn't be too hard though. From what I gather, children on his Plane do this for fun."

'A child can do anything an adult can if given the right motivation...' The lawmage thought introspectively at the trolls oddly spoken words. Meanwhile Faultless curls a possessive tail around his master's throat. Ruta shift uncomfortably at the additional constraints before tugging away the spirit's ghostly tail with irritated fingers. The shadow cat allow the mage to do so and instead patiently curled it's tail over Ruta's heart, furling and unfurling, waiting.
"If there is any 'muck up' it certainly won't be from the representative of the church of deals." Ruta blandly spoke with barely a hint of pride at the mention of his guild. "To be clear, this is a mission that each of us must complete individually not as a whole?" Unconsciously Ruta fuss with the front of his cloak smoothing a gloved hand over nonexistent winkles. "Of course, I'd be more than happy to lend a hand to the others..." Ruta solemnly tilts his head toward the others in question with a hint of a smile. "...for free, as a a show of good faith."

Bug nods to Jace, understanding. He could not nor did he expect the elder planeswalker, powerful though he may be, to know the answers to all his questions. "Bug understands. Bug will go find out. And these Pokeballs..." Bug fishes in his bag and pulls six out, which while of a different design than the ones offered by Jace, appeared similar enough. "Bug found some while scavenging on Home Plane. Perhaps prototypes dropped by an Izzet." He pondered that, then shoved all eleven balls into his bag, looking at his fellow test takers. "The Test sounds as if it will be judged on merits of Taker, but allowed methods were left unspecified. Bug thinks this means as long as Pokemon is in ball then Bug Pass!" Pronouns are hard man give Bug a break. He looked to the Lawyer, his eyes narrowing. "Knife Ears suggests Bug will not be able to pass test alone. Bug not sure the implications of that are well meant. Keep deal. Bug will catch pokemon alone." He nods, then stops himself. "Not trying to be antisocial. Bug just has reasons for doing some things alone. Bug needs to be stronger, and compromising this early would hurt Bug. After group passes, become friends, yes?"

Ruta stared at Bug as if he had suddenly turned into the very thing he was name by, which he didn't particularly care for, before letting out a scoff.
"Think again, if you think a simple test is all that'll cost for my friendship." The lawmage couldn't help but be amuse at the idea. "There is no 'deal' so much as there is a gift. You can take it or leave it however It'll be your own fault if you fail to reach your goal without taking advantage of those around you."
Ruta ended on an almost preaching-like note before turning his head away to look at Faultless as he gave the misfortunate cat a pet concealing a conscious touch to his ears. 'Should I have cut the tips off after all?'

Arata eyed up the lawmage, smoothing his imaginary wrinkles. "I too would like to pass this test by my own merits. As you said, allegiance on it by no means binds us beyond that, and more so if we cannot each prove ourselves here then we may yet be guild material. A brother of any such band should not merely draw on others, but be someone the warriors beside him can trust." Arata had no intention to bring down any warrior for his benefit. He looks then at the creature entangled around the lawmage. "Tell me, does that... spirit vex you?" He asks, as his eyes show visible distrust.

"Hm?" The lawmage tear himself away from his thought to the samurai, listening with a show polite boredom. It seems none of the planeswalkers so far are willing to take the bait. When the samurai question Faultless Ruta once more broke away from his thoughts.
"Ah, as vexing as any other feline and then some." Ruta replied belittling the true extent of how annoying black cat can be. Faultless smugly rubs his head against The lamage's outstretched hand before giving the hand a half hearted swip of his claws. Ruta hand easily evaded the attack and he continued to play with the cat as he gave the samurai a proper answer.
"This misfortune's name is Faultless he's on his last life. Not quiet dead, not quiet spirit but he's mine all the same. I don't suggest making him angry. " The shadow cat in question settled down enough to glowered at the samurai, he sense an enemy when he sees one.

Hearing the lawmage offer assistance "for free", Cho lets out a snort of derision. "An Orzhov offering his services for nothing in return? Yeah, I don't think I feel like finding where you put the fine print on that - I'll just do this myself. Besides, how hard can putting something in one of these balls be? Watch, I'll go grab something from the workshops real quick, easy as pi! I'll be back in half an hour, tops!"
She turns and heads for the door, seemingly haven forgotten the group was in the middle of an important briefing by probably the most important individual on the plane...

"Well if it is merely a cat, all is well." Arata seems pensive for a moment. "Forgive me if I seemed overly threatening. Spirits on my plain are... a great danger" He seemd to consider dowplaying them slightly before giving up and just telling it straight.

Jace gives you all a moment before interjecting his own comments.
"I'd prefer you to stay here for just a moment longer, if you don't mind Cho. And while yes, none of you are required to assist one another in obtaining a Pokemon, I should point out that here at the Consortium we're all trying to function as a team. There's nothing wrong with having you own personal goals, so long as you can achieve those goals while also working for the safety of the Multiverse. We need to know that when some interplanar monstrosity is trying to devour an entire Plane whole that we will be able to count on you to give aid in whatever way best suits your strengths. If we're worried that you're going to go rogue should the opportunity present itself, we're less likely to ask for assistance, or offer it when its requested in turn."
He takes a moment to consider if he should bring anything else up, but decides there's not really much of importance that needs to be said.
Right. Now, is there anything else you all have a need to sort out here before we head to Arthea? If not we'll be on our way shortly."

Arata thought for a moment. The mission seemed straightforward enough, but he should really try to be prepared. "Proving we can capture these creatures is obviously our goal here, but are there any additional threats we should be aware of beyond these creatures that we haven't yet captured?" Arata doesn't yet know the standards of these guilds, is this kind of test as it appears typically enough or is there a hidden danger there he is missing. regardless, he endeavours to stay on guard while in Arthea.

Jace nods.
"There is a slight secondary goal. The populace at large of Arthea has no idea the Multiverse exists. To date, we only know of a single Planeswalker hailing from there, which is how we came across it in the first place. Strangely, since his ascension, there have been odd happenings on the Plane. According to the professor, Pokemon used to come in a wide variety of species, but each species was relatively similar between all regions of the Plane. Something has happened to change that, and he would like our assistance in seeing just how extensive these changes are. We have a team on that goal specifically at the moment, but should you come across anything helpful in this regard, we'd appreciate you bringing it to the professor's attention."

Some form of mutation among the Plane's natural creatures? Perhaps a crossplanar contamination, or an excess of mana... Bug didn't know quite enough about the science behind magic to make a real guess, but it sounded like the ascension might have something to do with what Jace was worried about. But he wanted to clarify one thing first.
"Bug can fight back if challenged, yes?" Some of his... early tests had been surprise battles, with other planeswalkers getting the jump on him and Bug frantically defending himself, usually trapping the Planeswalker somewhere and fleeing. It had apparently gotten him good marks, as here he was. But this time he knew what he was doing. He was ready. And he was EXCITED.
