Jack doesn't hesitate much - he steps in between the two birds and does the best he can to loom in front of the larger one, his teeth bared in a snarl, his arms raised, and the fingers of his free hand curled into claws. His aim, of course, is to scare the apparent predator away from the smaller bird. "Boo!"Jack can make connections when he wants to; he glances from the little round bird to the injured girl. He's already got two examples of the connection, so it seems pretty easy to conclude that the green bird is the girl's Pokémon, just like Zero and Malkin for him or the little bear for Wendy. "Zero, try to keep her safe!"Zero suddenly returns to visibility, right in front of the first big bird's face. As he appears he lets out that earsplitting banshee screech he's so good at. Jack uses Manipulate: Terrorize! (targeting Bird #2) AC vs 6: M1BYY4v01d20; Intimidate check (opposed by Intimidate or Focus): 4d6+1 On hit, the target loses all Temporary HP and can only use At-Will Moves for one full round. In addition, Jack's Menace drops its Initiative to 0 and for one full round, it is Flinched on a 17+ on any attack (or an attack's existing Flinch range increases by +4).
Zero uses Screech! AC vs 4: 1d20; Burst 2, Friendly Lower the Defense of all legal targets by -2 CS. 1d20·4d6+1·1d20

As the birds battle overhead, Jack only just manages to get close enough to catch one of the birds' eye--it flinches in the air, dropping a meter in surprise, and seems anxious after Jack's scare attempt. It seems very...unnerved and glances down at him frequently. Still, his attempt at looming is a bit of a ruined effect, as they hover a few meters above his head amidst the branches, the small bird's dive interrupted before he could hit ground level. Zero's shriek results in both birds cringing, their flapping erratic--and they turn their attention to Jack and Zero, their previous prey almost forgotten in the face of sudden threats. At his feet, Wendy looks over the young, teenage looking girl, brushing the unconscious girl's hair out of her face and checking for blood from the impact.
Initiative List - Taillow Red - 17
- Taillow Blue - 15
- Natu - 14
- Zero - 13
- Jack - 10
Surprise round Conclusion! Both enemies take -2 to their defense stages! Blue will move at Init Zero on the next round!

With Wendy looking after the girl, Jack beckons for Zero to go after the birds as well. He does something very strange, then - his long, spindly shadow stretches out along the ground and then upward into a towering figure, swiping skeletal-looking fingers at the bird nearest to him. It looks like a rather vicious attack, but seems to pass through the bird harmlessly, leaving Jack frowning at the lack of effect. As Jack goes for one bird, Zero darts toward the other up above. He glides along the a branch, somehow ripping up leaves and blowing them ahead of him, hoping to blind the bird and keep it off-balance for a bit. Jack uses Shadow Punch on Taillow Blue! AC (for crit purposes): PWVPxf0R1d20; damage is zero because Blue is immune. (I haven't forgotten but Jack doesn't know.)
Zero uses a Dirty Trick: Blind on Taillow Red! AC (vs 2): 1d20; Opposed Stealth check: 4d6 On success, target is Blinded for one full round. 1d20·1d20·4d6
