Zero howls in protest as Blue's claws rip into him. If he was counting on his ghostly nature for protection, he clearly wasn't reckoning with Metal Claw. He draws back and fixes Blue with an intense glare before fires a wavering, multicolored beam at the offending Zangoose, hoping to catch it off-guard with Jack to distract it. Green's hungry case is still clearly unsettling him. Unfortunately, Jack has his own problems to deal with. He steps back slightly, using the branch's length and his long, bony arms to catch green with a proper swing. "You can stop that right now, thank you!"Zero moves and uses Psywave on Blue! 9fxo|S3j1d20 vs 5 AC 1d4 for damage - Blue loses 15 HP

Red swings at Zero angrily with steely metal claws moments before Zero releases his own attack in the direction of Blue. Blue flinches, wincing at the damage. Green takes swing of the same at Jack! Jack's own hit connects! There's a blooming new red mark in the bear-like creature's fur as Jack backs up. Wendy lets out a frustrated noise and swings again at Green. "Just go away!" She says with a grunt at the impact. At the impact, she glances down at the axe, licking her lips hesitantly. The smaller bear attempts to glower at the same bear but...well. It's a very /cute/ bear. The effect is a bit lacking. Initative List! Zangoose (Red) - 13 Zero - 12 Zangoose (Green) - 11 Jack - 10 Wendy - 10 Teddiursa - 4 Zangoose (Blue) - 0

The noise Zero makes as Red's claws dig into him again is more like a scream this time. There are rips in what passes for Zero's body that drip... well, it doesn't look exactly like normal blood, but it certainly doesn't look pleasant. His eyes and the gems at his "neck" glow a dark, unsettling shade, fixing Red with a vengeful glare, and he cries out what sounds like a brief and distinctly malevolent chant, laying a curse on Red to hinder his steely claws. Jack's yelp as Green's claws slash at him hits almost the same pitch despite his lower voice - pain feels a lot different in a mortal body. Wendy's doing a bang-up job, but things are looking a little bleak for our heroes, or at least for Zero. Jack snarls at Green, jerking toward it for a moment before pulling back to contemplate his next move. As fond as Jack is of his normal body, he really doesn't like the idea of getting to be dead again the hard way, or of Zero getting there himself. He touches the tattoos on his hand, recalling Zero into wherever Pokémon go and summoning up Malkin. He's not sure just what the little kitten can do against these things, but it's worth a shot. "Come on, Malkin!"Malkin mewls as she comes out, looking as if she's set to pounce on a stray bug fluttering past - at least until she pounces with a midair twist that sends her caroming off of Red's head, probably knocking it silly in the process. "Skit-eee!" She lands at Jack's side, a pace or two back from Red. Zero gains an injury! In response, Zero uses Spite! Red's Metal Claw is Disabled! Jack's Frighten lowers Green's Speed! Green loses -2 Speed CS. Jack switches out Zero for Malkin, sending her out at the X. Malkin's Initiative: 10 Malkin uses Fake Out on Red! Red glares at Jack and Zero as it's claws refuse to go metallic. It seems frustrated! As Zero holds back an attack, Green strikes at Wendy, digging claws in deep as she just barely shifts to prevent them from actually tearing anything but her clothing. There are ugly red scratches along her skin, though it doesn't bleed. Blue lumbers over and claws at Jack itself! Jack's response, to throw out a new mon in Red's direction is noted as the pink cat stuns Red, but the pokemon seems largely unbothered by the actual damage of the attack. Wendy hefts her axe, lunging at Green in frustration--and dark red blood spills as the pokemon collapses from the strike. She practically growls as she shoves a lose lock of hair out of her face. The teddiursa pauses where it had attempted to threaten Green, and stares petulantly as its target is removed.

Jack hisses between his teeth in pain as Blue's claws leave an ugly gash on his arm, blood starting to stain the torn fabric of his suit. He'd probably be reacting worse if he wasn't discovering one of the upsides of a living body - adrenaline. He's half spun around by the quick dash that brought Blue's claws raking over him. Malkin leaps up and bats her paw against Jack's hand gently in something resembling a parody of a high-five, hoping to encourage her trainer to take action. Then she bounds around to one side of the predator, hoping that a quick-moving target will distract it from Jack on its other side. Right now, Jack's feeling rather angry. These things have marched in, torn Zero nearly to shreds, and hurt him and Wendy both, all over a jar of orange gloop that not even he wants to touch. "You need to learn to stay away from my friends!" He brings the branch around in a powerful blow, targeted right at Blue's claws. Blue's shift provokes an Attack of Opportunity from Jack! Red seems amused that the ghost has been replaced by Malkin, and lumbers over to the small feline. It passes close to Jack, seeming unconcerned as it opens itself up to an attack! It lunges past Malkin, picking up speed, and reaches with sharp claws towards the small feline. Blue, in the meantime, still seems concerned with Jack--and lunges with shiny claws and a snarl at the man. Jack's own hit is enough to send it stumbling back, however, with bloody fur and a dazed expression. Wendy cements the deal, lunging from behind Jack with her axe raised high. Blue collapses at their feet! Initative List! Zangoose (Red) - 13

Jack swings his branch at Red as it passes, hoping to at least make it regret bypassing him. Hopefully the damage is worth leaving a nasty set of clawmarks scored across Malkin's chest, making her whine in pain. Now Jack's really seeing red - no pun intended - and with the other two attackers down, he's free to focus his attention on Red. He circles around behind the predator while its focus is still on Malkin, and brings the branch down across its back. "I told you already! Stay away from my friends!" He's mad enough that he hardly even notices, but he's barely standing, bleeding badly from several gashes of his own. Apparently Malkin is quite capable of taking revenge for her own injury, though. With a hiss of anger, she leaps up and hurls her whole weight right at Red's face, slamming into it hard enough to send it flying back past Jack - assuming she didn't already knock it completely senseless in the process. Red is hit by Jack's strike! It favors the arm where he hit it, grumbling, and throws itself forward at lightning speed to slam into Malkin! The next few moments are a chaotic whirl of strikes, and at the end of it, Jack and Wendy pant over the fainted body of the final figure. Teddirusa stops its low growl--and begins licking happily at the rest of the orange goo with a cooing noise. Initative List! Zangoose (Red) - 13

"No!" Jack cries out as Malkin goes down; as soon as the last attacker falls, he runs over to her. Thankfully, it seems that she's still breathing, just unconscious and badly battered from the last attack that hit her just as she was winding up to strike. But Jack's and Wendy's blows seem to have made up the difference. He fumbles through the things he's collected, trying to think of what he can use to help. The problem is that he's not a doctor and, in point of fact, is more than a bit hazy on how creatures that are alive actually work. The herbs might work if he knew how to use them, the scrolls are probably not helpful, then there's that weird glowing stone... Wait. Stones don't usually glow anyway. Maybe it's helpful, like the water from the fountain back in Halloween Town. Holding it certainly makes him feel lively... maybe it will help Malkin feel better even if it doesn't directly help her recover. He lays the stone against Malkin's forehead gently. "Here, maybe this will help. Do you know anything about injuries, Wendy?" She certainly seems like a knowledgable type... Malkin takes two more injuries and faints!
Zero gained 16 experience! Malkin gained 20 experience! Malkin grew to level 7! Attack went up by 1! Defense went by 1! Malkin forgot Growl and... Malkin learned Sing! Jack gained 5 experience! Jack grew to level 4! Gained Edge: Adept Skills (Stealth)!

The stone that presses against Malkin seems to heat up in Jack's hand, just on the edge of burning for a split second before it goes cool and dark--no different from a pebble. Malkin rouses almost instantly after, eyes opening to peer up at Jack.
Wendy watches in curiousity and lets out a soft noise at the process. "So that's what that thing does...I wonder how it works?" She realizes she was asked a question and blinks. "Uh..." She rubs the back of her head. "No more than really basic first aid, honestly. I can maybe wrap up a cut, that sort of thing, but not much more. Sorry."

Jack gasps slightly as he feels the rising heat in the stone, until suddenly it goes dark and cool again. He looks down at the rock in surprise as Malkin butts her head against his hand; he strokes her ears absently as he considers what just happened. "I have no idea. I suppose it must be magic, or something like it."
He bundles Malkin into his arms as he gets to his feet - a process which takes a little while as his legs unfold. "Some bandages would be nice, but it's not quite as important now that we know what those stones do. I wonder whether we could find more of them around." He glances up at the sky between the trees. Considering Halloween Town doesn't really have a sun, he doesn't have much experience judging the time from it. "How late do you think it is?"

Wendy nods her agreement. "They seem useful enough. I wonder if they can be recharged?" She says curiously, pulling her own from her pocket. She looks up at the sky when he asks her about time, and squints as she realizes that she didn't even notice the sky starting to purple. "Late enough that we should work on a shelter, at least..." She mutters, frowning. The rest of the night is a flurry of work. They settle in a nearby clearing, and Jack finds that Wendy is pretty good at shelter building--or at least, good enough that what she puts together seems sturdy enough. "Not as good as a tent, but it'll help keep us warm, block out most of any rain, at least.." She mutters, looking at the two person shelter with a frown, but eventually shrugs. "I'll take first watch," she mutters, taking a seat outside. However they split the watches--and she's very adamant that they have them, at the very least. Dawn breaks with a chilly mist rolling into the clearing, and as they wake up for the morning, Wendy spends a lot of the time sniffling and sneezing. "What's the plan, b-b-biggggg*choo!* ugh. big guy?" She asks, rubbing her nose with a grimace. You've finished your first day! Rollover! The idea of setting a watch surprises Jack slightly; after all, Halloween Town doesn't even really have much of a criminal element outside of Oogie Boogie, never mind dangerous animals. But after the attack by the creatures yesterday he has to concede that it's probably a good idea. Jack's never been terribly upset about interrupting his sleep - it's not like he's never stayed up all night with an interesting new project - so he's just fine with helping keep watch. Setting up the shelter involved quite a bit of interested watching from him, and maybe at least a bit of attempted help. If nothing else he can help prop things up - leverage is never a problem for someone built as long and lean as him. He shivers a little in the cold morning, but he can't help grinning at the enshrouding mist. As far as he's concerned, a spooky, mist-filled forest is a perfect morning. "Well, it's a wonderful day! We should do a bit more exploring, I think, maybe find our way back to where I woke up..."He's interrupted by a rumble from his stomach. Geez, this hunger thing again. "... After breakfast." He digs out some of the berries he's vaguely managed to collect over the past few days and a handful of what would appear to be leftover Halloween candy. It's about now that he discovers Malkin has somehow managed to get into that foul-smelling orange stuff in the middle of the night - how she even did it, he doesn't know, but she's sitting in the corner with a self-satisfied smile and a very definitely empty jar. The way she moves makes him wince, though, since it's clear evidence of the injuries she suffered the previous day. Breakfast forces him to reassess his food stores, such as they are. "We should see about finding some more food, too. I'm afraid this candy won't last forever." Of course, he says this as Zero snatches a piece out of his hand. "Do you think we can get anything useful from those things that attacked us last night? The fur, maybe," he adds, noticing the way she shivers. Hopefully nothing's dragged them off in the night... Jack gains a Milestone! Defense +1! Gained Feature: Shadow Arms! Attack +1! Gained Bonus Feature: Dilettante Rank 1! Gained Bonus Edge: Basic Cooking! Gained Bonus Feature: Let Me Help You With That! Wendy nods at Jack's assessment. "Probably a good idea...I was expecting to have a chance to cure some of the deer meat with my dad's supplies, but at this point, I don't know that it would be safe to eat. Raw meat left out this long..." She shrugs. She glances at Jack in surprise. "I doubt they'll still be there, honestly. I think they were still alive when we left. Unless you finished them off, anyway."
Her next yawn is interrupted by a sneeze. She grumbles, nibbling on a strip of something brown and apparently chewy that she pulls from her bag. "Either way, hunting for some food is probably a good idea. Any particular direction you wanted to head today?"

"I was thinking of moving back toward where I woke up, first of all." He looks around, but directions are hard to tell in the mist - they may not get their bearings until it burns off, unless Wendy has a compass or some such thing. "If we can make a map of the route between here and there, that's a bit of territory we have nailed down. Something solid we can call our own in this crazy place. Do you, um, have anything to write with, by any chance?"
They've both got the instruction scrolls, so they can write on the back of one of them, but Jack, unfortunately, doesn't often carry pens around. He's got this marvelous one that looks like a disembodied bat wing and even wiggles around while he writes, but it's sitting on his desk in Halloween Town.
"And perhaps we can find something useful on the way, or even in the area. Maybe another box turned up?"

Wendy shakes her head sheepishly. "I didn't have much of a reason to bring my school work or anything, since it was supposed to be a camping trip. Figured I'd have better things to do, you know?" She shrugs. "Maybe try writing with mud or something?" Her expression brightens at the idea of another box. "That would be helpful...or maybe we can find someone else out here who can give us directions?" She scratches a welt on her arm absentmindedly, looking around. "But if you want to head back, lead the way," She grins. Athletics and perception please for traveling~ And..maybe a survival to see how easily you find your way back or if you get side tracked.

Jack shrugs and sighs, looking down at the ground. "Hm..." He scoops some dirt up on his finger and tries smearing it on the back of the instruction scroll. He's not sure how well it will stay, but it's better than nothing. "It might work. I wish I had my library around here; maybe I could find a book about how to make ink. Then all we'd need is a feather. Oh, well. Let's get going!"Just like yesterday, he strides forth boldly into the mist, in the direction he thinks is toward where he arrived. At least he has more company than yesterday now, even if most of it still isn't very talkative. Gah, sorry this is so late. Athletics: DPr|8jxU3d6 Perception: 3d6 Survival: 2d6 3d6·3d6·2d6

Jack attempts to find his way back in the direction he came from. And he certainly does move in a direction, and it's...probably the right way? Either way, he ends up walking for quite a while with Wendy following after him, occasionally overcome with sniffles and sneezes. The misty fog isn't helping things, he's sure.
After what was somewhere between ten minutes and an hour, he is stopped by a crashing above him in the trees. There is a shriek that cuts through the air, like a bird of prey--and then a second, one that is clearly a feminine voice. The leaves above them shake and several twirl around them.

Jack wishes he knew more about humans. Chilly, misty weather is a lovely, spooky day, but Wendy is clearly not enjoying it as much as he is and he's not really sure how to tell how sick she is. The only thing he's really sure about is that humans can't deal with going to pieces as well as skeletons and ghouls, but he's not sure how to diagnose where she is in the middle ground between "fine" and "bits dropping off". The fog does also rather make it difficult to navigate or tell the time, without the sun. He's pretty sure he's going the right way, but until they hit a familiar landmark there's only so certain he can be. He's interrupted in his worries by that piercing shriek, and the familiar sound of a scream. That sounds... well, it's actually rather worrying. He peers up into the foliage, but there's too much fog and too many leaves to make out more than the branches shaking. After a moment, he taps a finger against the image of a ghost on his skin and calls out Zero. "Can you go see what's going on? It sounds like someone might need our help. But be careful!" Jack still remembers how his heart skipped a beat when the attackers yesterday left Malkin unconscious. It was an unpleasant sensation, even more so for someone not used to having a heart at all. Zero bobs in the air, his version of a nod, and starts rising up into the canopy toward the sounds of the struggle. He fades into invisibility as he rises up into the trees, hoping to keep himself concealed from whoever's fighting. Jack uses Inspired Training on Zero! He gains +1 Evasion and +2 to Save Checks! Zero's Shift: use Invisibility (time limit: 4 minutes, which he's almost certainly not going to use all of) Zero's Standard: shift up to his flight ceiling of 6 meters Zero's Perception (what's going on?): IwY_sU4z2d6 2d6

Behind Jack, Wendy pulls her axe from where she'd slipped twisted it in her belt. She's silent as she peers up, stepping back against a trunk, and tries to see through the leaves. Absentmindedly, she brushes her hand against a spot just under her shirt, by her navel, and the small bear makes a reappearance after vanishing early that morning.
Zero makes it up as high as he can go, until he hovers among the leaves just below the top of the canopy--where he has a perfect view of the red haired girl who falls from the sky and smacks into the branches, still shrieking. She's dressed in what is clearly a purple uniform--matching skirt, crop top, and thigh high boots with silver accents. They're slightly ripped and mussed, and her skin doesn't seem to be fairing much better. She seems to catch herself on the branches after a second--or above them, perhaps, because she seems to be slightly hovering, until the branches seemingly break under whatever force keeps her risen and she progresses further to the ground, slow going. Above her, Zero can see a large brown bird that shrieks again, following what seems to be a tiny green round one that attempts to dive down following the girl who fell--and who lands in a groaning huddle not far from Jack and Wendy.
The green bird's attempt at following the girl is met with a second bird's launching itself from the tree line to block it. They seem to be herding it--or hunting it.
