It's been three days since Sokka first awoke in this strange place, and he wakes up on the fourth day with the bright morning sun shining into his eyes. The clearing he's found for his self is small, and half of it is covered in a rich, thick earth, with tall trees casting a dark shadow over everything. Rocks and branches scatter the ground and make it difficult to sleep, and he's rolled into the wet muddy dirt more than once, but it's the one place he's found that has enough room for him to really stretch out on the ground without one of the strange animals of this world appearing and getting upset with his presence. The day he arrived, he was so weak he could barely stand, feeling like something had been ripped from his chest. It's taken these past two days before the aches have faded, and this is the first time he's woken up feeling like he has enough energy to actually try...doing /something/ besides figuring out the strange differences in this body of his, and meeting the strange pokemon that has refused to leave his side. The black book rests on the ground beside him when he sits up, though he doesn't recall having placed it there--but this, too, is something he's starting to get used to... Around him, he can hear the soft sounds of the forest--chirps and growls and cries of the animals--no, pokemon--that live here. It's day four, and the weather is clear, and Sokka is ready to explore. [Start us out with a Perception roll, please.]

Sokka's Untrained Perception: 9qWlBCQo2d6 Chilly's perception: 2d6 "Man, hurry up, will ya?" The boy kicked out at a small branch as he moved away from the tree he'd decided to camp near the previous night, looking everywhere but at the round little creature trailing behind. Four days now, and Aang and that girl he called his sister hadn't come back for him. Had they even noticed? He kicked another branch, followed by a small stone, face all kinds of glum. Benders, honestly. So caught up in their wishy-washy swirly-twirly hocus-pocus that they forgot about him entir-- The little blue ball of pain and overeagerness he'd (sorta)-fondly nicknamed 'Chilly' bowled its way under his foot as he raised it to kick at another stone. "Oi! What was that for?! You know what? I can already smell the delicious seal jerky sizzling over an open fire-- you better watch yourself!" But the odd creature was already rolling around gleefully in the grass ahead of him, and Sokka gave a long sigh. Another day, and hopefully this time he'd at least find some sort of civilization. Where in the Earth Kingdom had they left him, anyways? 2d6·2d6

Sokka's clearing seems...off, and something tickles at the corner of his mind, but in his rush to get moving--and his frustration with what seems to be a small ball of lard disguised as a sentient animal--it slips his mind quickly. As he preps to get going, though, something makes him glance back to make sure he didn't miss anything. As his gaze sweeps the ground, it falls on a strange churning in the mud, as if something had disturbed it.
Could those be...animal tracks, perhaps? Animal tracks might lead to something huntable, which could lead to something meat-able. On closer investigation, it actually looks a bit like someone had been digging, and done a really bad job at hiding their tracks.
Something itches on the back of his neck, and he feels almost like he's being watched...but when he glances around, he can't make anything out.

"Well that's great. Just great," he mutters irritably, scowling around at the clearing as if it'd done him some great injustice. "HEEEEEY, I know you're out there! Face me like a man instead of skulking around in the bushes, will ya?" His stomach growled. How traitorous. Finding a nearby dry spot--a log or stump, if there was one--he sat down and pulled out one of the bundles of dried meat that (thankfully) Katara and Aang hadn't taken with them. Maybe if he was lucky the stranger... or 'pokemon', as these creatures seemed to be called, would find the scent to its liking and come out of hiding... One way or another, he'd have to think about replacing his trusty tools soon. A hatchet, at the very least; no doubt that would make his life a bit easier if the wondrous bending duo wouldn't be able to find him for a few more days. It wasn't the south pole, but surely there had to be something of use around, right? Can this be flavored as the 300 that we use at the beginning of each day (or is that supposed to be, in character, spread out through the entirety of the day like rations?)
Don't know if you want me to use Tech Edu or Survival when it comes to thinking up how to make basic tools, but here's rolls for both just in case:

The dried meat he had left with him are slowly dwindling. At some point, he'd going to have to start finding more food sources. It's not meat, but maybe he can find like...wild plants or something. That's a thing non-water tribers do, right? Just eat the stuff that comes out of the ground? As he thinks, looking at the small bits he's gathered in the past few days in terms of building materials...there's certainly nothing here that he could use to make a really good, sturdy hatchet, but he thinks he can manage one that's at least usable, and will last for a bit... Carve the wood for handle, find a sharp rock or crack and grind one until he gets a sharp one. If he had a really sharp bone shard, or some metal, that would help, but until then, maybe use some of the mud and grasses to bind it.. [Recipe Acquired: Hatchet! Effect: For the next six attempts at foraging Build Scrap, add +5 to the result multiplier. Cost: 150 Build Scrap] As Sokka chews his way through his meat, lost in thought, there's a noise in the nearby grass. A small, grey canine looking pokemon steps hesitantly into the clearing, ears pressed against its head as it pushes its head forward, sniffing at the air. It's gaze settles on Sokka--or more relevantly, the stick of meat in his hand. It steps forward, a few cautious, slow steps in his direction.

His first reaction was to flinch backwards--which resulted in an ungraceful flailing of limbs. But Chilly didn't seem worried by the intruder, and it didn't appear to be ready to attack. He could understand its pursuit of meat all too well. And surely he couldn't eat a puppy. Wasn't there some unspoken rule between high-ranking, moderately-intelligent carnivores that more meat could be obtained by sticking together? He tossed a dirty look at Chilly (what kind of seal at only grass?!) before ripping a bit of the dried meat off with his teeth, and holding it out to the newcomer. "You want somma this, huh boy?" Or girl, he thought reluctantly, thinking back to Kyoshi Island. But those kinds of thoughts only left him in a sour mood at the moment, so he returned his attention to the creature at hand. "Well, c'mon then, I won't bite. Not you at least. Say, you got a pretty good sense of smell I bet, huh? Fancy hunting? D'you know what that means, boy?" Or girl. "Wanna go 'hunt'? Food? Meat?"His stomach growled again. Will put 300 food scraps towards eating some of the dried meat.

The small canine hesitantly moves forward more, it's desire for the bit of meat being held out far outweighing its caution towards the new strangers. It will stop at Sokka's feet, leaning its head forward to carefully nip the bit of meat out of his hand before taking a few cautious steps back to nibble on it. It stares at Sokka as it chews, and Sokka can't really be sure if it can understand him or not, but it doesn't react poorly to his words, in any case. Some of the tension leaves its body as time passes without it being attacked.

"Right. Well. I don't suppose you brought a bone with you, huh? Was it you that buried something over here?" Sokka stood up as he spoke, making sure to leave a good few feet between himself and the pup at all times, and headed over to the disturbed mud he'd seen earlier. Ugh. Well, he wanted to avoid dirtying his trusty boomerang if at all possible, so he grabbed a nearby rock and started scraping away at the spot layer by layer. "If you buried a bone, you're a good boy, yes you are." Or girl. "Just don't bury any more, because we're going to need those, got it?"He periodically looked back over his shoulder, watching Chilly roll around the wolf-like pup with extreme interest. Was it a 'pokemon' too? He'd seen Chilly's crazy abilities (who'd a thought a seal could be a bender?!) and wondered what his new hungry friend might be able to do. Sokka's rock seems very unqualified to serve as a digging utensil. After a few minutes of him pushing away dirt, Chilly seems to get bored of watching him and begins joining him, using small spurts of water to spray away the dirt as he breaks it up. They make a good team! It only takes around fifteen minutes before Sokka is capable of pulling what seems to be a medium black box out of the ground. Chilly sprays off the last bits of dirt crusted into the strange square engravings and Sokka gets a good look at it.
It's around a foot in every direction, and has no obvious opening that Sokka can make out. It's black, cold to the touch, and too light to be made of metal, certainly. There's a large outline of a hand on one side, the only shape that doesn't seem to be made of squares interlocking.
It's...totally and completely not a bone, and isn't that just the most depressing thing? The dog seems content, though most of this, to sit and chew on his meat snack--or rather, lick his hands of all traces of it after it's gone. It finishes and huffs at Sokka's questions, laying on its belly and resting its head on its front paws to watch Sokka work.

"Huh." Sokka turns it around in his hands again. "Wait..." He studies the odd designs and the fancy hand-print even more closely. "NO WAY! Chilly, did we just find buried magical treasure?! Oh, Aang is going to be so jealous once he finds out what he left behind. 'Hey Sokka, what'd you find there?' Oh, y'know, just some absolutely awesome secret artifacts, you abandoning, sister-stealing bald twerp!"
He looks back and forth between Chilly and the pup, a maniacal grin on his features. "Time for the great reveal, boys!" Or gir-- ah, whatever.
With a kingly flourish, he places his hand flat against the print on the odd side of the box, eyes glimmering with eagerness.

Sokka finds that his hand fits perfectly in the center of the the marking, each of his fingertips barely pressing against the circles when the engravings begin to light up, spreading from that center point. If he attempts to pull away, he finds that his hand seems to be stuck to the box, which seems...significantly heavier. It barely budgets if he pulls away. As the engravings finish lighting up, some of the etchings seem to shift on the box and there's a soft *click*. The box begins to...dissolve is perhaps the best word, the materal melting away under Sokka's hand to reveal a small pile of...stuff. There doesn't seem to be any trace of the original box at all, even under the various items that it has been replaced by. The mysterious pile of things contains four neatly tied parchment scrolls, two jars, one large and full of some sort of greenery and one small with some sort of orangeish paste, and a small box with hinges, not unlike what Sokka might expect a ring to be displayed in. Two of the scrolls are tied with a red ribbon, one is tied with a yellow ribbon, and the fourth is significantly smaller and tied only with a piece of string. The larger scrolls seem to have a series of intricate runes on them that make his head hurt to look at, not dissimilar from the etchings that were on the box, in fact. The smaller scroll has symbols much more in line with those he's seen in the black book--or she thinks, anyway, because when he next blinks, he's staring at a simple paragraph written in an almost perfect standard english font of some kind. It doesn't say much, and probably raises more questions than it answers, but seems to speak of using the other scrolls to 'capture' the essence of pokemon. It reads...very much like an instruction guide. The larger jar, when opened, smells strongly of herbs and medicine, not unlike the creams that Gram-Gram used to use on him when he burned his hand on the fire. The smaller jar smells...weirdly sour and gross to him, but Spheal and the dog both seems to perk up at the scent, sniffing the air. The box swings open to reveal a shiny, smooth glowing green stone...it's very warm to the touch, in fact. Sokka has found a hidden cache! But who buried this? How did they do it without him noticing in the night? And, perhaps most importantly....why? He obtains: - 2 Basic Scrolls
- 1 Great Scroll
- 1 Myserious Scroll of Instruction
- 1 Collection Jar
- 600 points of Medicine scrap
- 1 Baby Food
- 1 Revive Stone

Scrolls! And goop! And a rock! Sokka could hardly contain his... excitement. He frowned at the magical box as it faded away.
Well, the scrolls were interesting. Not entirely unlike the one Katara had snatched for water-bending, visually, but the one with the instructions suggested he might not want to open the others all willy-nilly around wild pokemon. He squinted at the dog curiously. "Oi, you! Still wanna go hunting? This here thing can make you and I partners. Think about it."
The two jars of goop and the warm green rock were far more interesting, even if not edible. He pocketed them, and three of the scrolls, still holding one of the red-tied ones out. It was related to that weird book that seemed physically impossible to leave behind? Well, he didn't understand exactly how or why, but if he could call on the dog like he could Chilly, it'd be darn useful now, wouldn't it?
"So whatcha say, little guy? Me and you, meat-eater-pals, bone-chewin'-buddies, carnivores-in-arms from now on? Could always use a good nose like yours. I won't letcha starve." He holds out the scroll experimentally. "Two barks yes, one bark no?"

The canine pokemon stands up as Sokka sorts through the pile, slowly moving forward to sniff at some of the goodies. Still, as he spends time reading and sorting, it seems to lose interest. At some point, it settles not far from Sokka's hip, gnawing on an errant branch. It looks up as Sokka finally finishes up and holds out one of the scrolls, the branch held between its two front paws. It sniffs the scroll curiously, then pulls back with a huff. It glances between Sokka and the scroll, and finally lets out a soft whimper of confusion. To use a capture scroll, break the seal on the ribbon and throw it within a meter of the pokemon you would like to attempt to capture.

Sokka frowns. "I guess you're not really the barking type, huh? Let's see... ugh, not that jar again, it's going to stink up my pockets... here, eat this while I figure out how to work this scroll thing." He unscrews the smallest jar and places it on the ground before the dog, assuring Chilly they'd find some nice grass or leaves for him a bit later. It takes him a minute or so to figure out how to work the scroll (with the help of the instruction manual, though he'd never admit he needed that). Once done, he kneels before the pup and--looking pensive--drapes the opened scroll over its back like a cloak. "Like this, bud? Hold still a sec..."Capture check if necessary? Do I need to roll accuracy if he's just placing it on him? :S

The dog is more than happy to consume the contents of the jar. As Sokka turns back to the pokemon, it's nose is inside the jar and he can see its flat tongue working on the last few traces. Sokka...isn't actually sure how it's going to get its nose out, honestly. As the scroll taps the pokemon, Sokka gets his answer. The ribbons whip around, wrapping around the pokemon, and the scroll immediately follows. The dog vanishes behind a shield of paper, and the edges of the shape begin to blur as the shape glows and shrinks. At the end, Sokka is staring a single sheet of parchment with a drawing of the sleeping dog, sitting next to a small empty jar.

Sokka felt a slight pain on his arm again, just below where the other tattoo had popped up just days ago. Instead of another water droplet, however, this one took the form of a paw-print composed of swirling black lines. "So that's how that works, huh?" He gritted his teeth until the burning sensation faded, then glanced at Chilly. "Funny, I don't remember a scroll wrapping around you." He wondered if this was a normal thing. Did the Fire Nation know about recording powerful creatures known as 'pokemon' down on scrolls? He dreaded the thought.
He picked up the book--the damned creepy stalker book he couldn't get rid of, annoying as it was to lug around--and flipped through the pages. Was he supposed to put the new sheet of parchment in here? He retrieved it from the ground and slid it in to a random page, waiting to see what happened.
"No offense Chilly, but your roly-poly self just ain't ideal for catching a load of meat. So how do I get this guy back out..." He consulted the sheet for a few more moments (before attempting whatever technique it lists).
He looked around at the clearing-- unsure of where he wanted to be, but knowing the answer wasn't 'here'. "Let's head south and see if there's something we can hunt, huh?"

The parchment is thin and weirdly soft in Sokka's hands--and as he flips through his book, he feels the burning in his arm start to sear, as if a piece of hot metal were stabbed against it. As he investigates, he'll find that the parchment in questions seems to have vanished--and the book has fallen open to a page with page with information on the small dog--a Poochyena, according to the book, anyway. Touching the small mark that has appeared on his arm, and simply /wanting/ the creature to reappear, seems to be all that's needed for the small dog to appear not far from Sokka from a ball of hazy white light. To the south of his clearing, Sokka finds that the earth beneath his feet firms up significantly. The thick, moist soil of his clearing is replaced with grass and plants and fallen leaves from trees that rise high above him and block out the sky. [How far does Sokka travel? What does he seek? Please include a perception check for me in your next post.] Sokka has captured a pokemon! +5 TXP for your first successful pokemon capture!

Sokka cuts along trees with his boomerang as he goes, giving them chevron slashes. He didn't like forests--too unfamiliar to him-- and preferred to keep track of where his trusty clearing was. "Keep an eye out, pup. Gotta be something around..." he watches the undergrowth and branches intently. Sokka perception, XTalcx922d6 Would like to pick up a scent with Pooch's perception as well, but still don't know it's gender etc. 2d6+1

Sokka's markings make it reasonably easy for him to see his path back--though he doesn't go nearly far enough to really be worried about that. The clearing is practically still visible as he tracks out around its perimeter, but the trees seem to be full enough that he thinks he can find /something/ out here, if he's quiet. Sokka doesn't see much out there himself--but the Poochyena, after a few minutes of this, lets out a huff as he sniffs at the ground. He glances back at Sokka, and upon seeing that the boy is following, launches himself into the trees!
The dog stops below one of the dozens of practically identical trees and crouches down, peering up into the trees and growling. Above, Sokka can make out something purple that the Poochyena seems to have tracked. It's very...Momo like, honestly, but with purple fur and a long tail instead of glider wings. It's tail is abnormally prehensile, as well, and Sokka watches as it snorts down at the Poochyena, hanging from a branch by the tail's tightly wrapped end. It grabs an acorn and tosses it down at the Poochyena, letting out a howling shriek.

The face on the thing looking down at them was surely only something a mother could love. Those insane eyes and terrifying teeth! It didn't look like it had too much meat on its bones, but anything could help. "Right! Good nose, buddy! Now let's... uhh..." The pup didn't have wings, unfortunately, and according to the book it wasn't able to fly, either. Shame. Sokka looked at his boomerang, and sighed. "Lucky boomerang, go! Buddy, go make sure you can get it when it drops!"LET'S DO DIS.
Sokka moves so that he's within 4m of the pokemon, and uses Wounding Strike (Weapon Move) on it. Trying to knock it from the branch somehow.
