Tiki lifts her head, and rubs her eyes. She looks around, and is confused by how dark it is. "Huh? Where are we? Did we find anything?"

"Lost track of the herd. I'm trying to figure out where they went, there's probably another watering hole someplace but I can't see it from here. Think we should try and find 'em?"

Tiki nods. "Ok. It is getting pretty dark. Will we be ok out here?" She slides off of Raido. Her legs are still pretty heavy, but she able to stand.

"All our teams are pretty fresh, it's not like we've been in any real battles today." Running away from Raticate doesn't really count. "I don't have a lantern, but Fan and Flower can both light things up if we need it."
Having recalled Red Child a little while ago to save the poor Growlithe's legs, he lets Flower out now, and she makes a little trilling noise as her flame casts an eerie blue glow. "I'm pretty sure she can see in the dark, too."

Everyone who is near Flower, especially if looking into her flame get kinda sleepy (especially Tiki, who was already sleepy). Woops. Clay forgot that Flower did that. He's still not sure what it means, if anything. (Rei might know, if she rolls Occult Ed.)

"Oh, um. Right. I forgot about that, she doesn't usually do it in a battle." Quick swap time! The glow from the flame around Fan's tail is a much more cheerful orange. Granted, Fan doesn't have night vision, but she also doesn't do weird things to people with her flame.
"Anyway, let's go find some Ponyta, huh?" It'll be harder to spot from far off with it getting dark, but at least they should actually be able to get close to the herd this way. "Let's see..."
He starts to look around the edge of the watering hole. If there's a stream feeding it, following the water might lead to a sensible place for the herd to be spending the night.

There is a stream feeding out, but not into this watering hole. Seems it's filled by an underground spring or stream or something. The visible stream leading away from the lake seems to be headed in a generally southerly direction. It's better than nothing, so off you go! After a few more hours (with Tiki haven fallen asleep on Raido again on her own), the full moon is providing a fair bit of light to see with, in addition to Fan's tail flame. You begin to hear a strange sort of whooshing or crashing sound. It's very rhythmic and kinda soothing. As you reach the crest of a small hill, you see it. A truly massive body of water. It's an ocean! But wait, wasn't the ocean further north? At Cerulean? You were just there a day or two ago!

At least it's a full moon, so there's more light than there might be. "Hey, Tiki, what was that story you had about - oh, you're asleep."
When they come over the hill and see the moonlight gleaming on the water, Clay blinks. "... Wait, there's an ocean over here, too?" Well, the herd is clearly not coming to drink here... where could they have gone?

Tiki lets out a big snore, and seems to wake up. "huh? Wha-? Is that...the beach?....Zzzzzz" Tiki is asleep once more, and cuddles more into Raido's soft leaves.

Clay sighs. "May as well camp. By the time we get back to the city the sun'll be coming up. Besides, maybe this way we can catch the Ponyta before they get going in the morning."
He stretches his arms out and shakes his head. "Guess we should have a watch or something? I'm not too tired, I can take first watch if you guys want."

"Yeah we should probably camp up. And you might be right, if we rise before the Ponyta that is. Go ahead and take the first watch, wake me after you."
With that, Rei carefully removes Tiki from her Raido-bed and recalls the Skiddo who's done his work for the day. She then sets up her sleeping bag for the night.

Clay rolls out his own sleeping bag, but rather than get in it he just settles down on top of it with Fan beside him. Time to keep watch! He hasn't had to do this since he was back with the troop, so this is a relatively familiar scenario.
"Just like old times, huh, sis? Let's see what hangs out here at night..."
Good thing Clay is good at staying awake! Still, he's obviously yawning and not as alert as he could be by the time he goes to wake Rei for her turn at watching. "Your turn. Seems pretty quiet. We should get up early, try to catch the herd before they get going."
Once Rei's taken over, he and Fan go to curl up in his sleeping bag, nice and warm.

Rei is shaken awake, and she nods to Clay.
"You are right, we'll try, but get some rest Clay."
Rei packs up her sleeping bag, and takes watch over the group. She finds her gaze heading to Tiki multiple times before she shakes it off. She sighs. She's can't keep her mind off of her friend, specifically the fact that she felt like she dissapointed Tiki during the day, and the other half wonders why Tiki's been in a bit of a mood toward her these last few days. She buries the thoughts, wondering why it's worrying her so much.
She keeps watch until the morning.

The first two hours are uneventful. Almost boring, even, were it not for thoughts of Tiki and her moodiness keeping Rei's mind occupied. During hour #3, however, Rei spots something slinking around just outside of Fan's circle of light. It mostly blends in with the darkness, especially when it hunkers down somewhere, at which point it practically disappears into the gloom as the moon's light has begun to wane by now. It doesn't look very big (compared to the giant version of Red Child the party saw earlier), but it's definitely big enough to be a threat if it wants to be.

Rei's eyebrow raises as she sees the figure approach. She stands as it hides close by, and she thinks first to shout out at it, but instead heads to her pokebelt, and in the waning darkness, she needs light of her own. She sends out Koto, her newly captured Vulpix. The Vulpix looks around, wondering why's she's been called out this early, but see's Rei's wary expression.
"Something's over there Koto. Ember and scare it off."
The Vulpix takes a moment to aim well, and lets loose a little bit of flame in the given direction.
