"Oh, that stinks, sorry." Clay sighs and rubs his neck. "The lizard went and hid in a Raticate burrow. You can see how that one turned out. No scent and a bunch of angry Raticate."
He shrugs. "There's probably more Ponyta around, Sam said there was a big migration going."

Tiki finds a nearby hill, and looks around from on top of it. Hopefully another group of ponyta, or even the dog/kitty, is nearby.

No dog/kitty to be seen, but there's those black and white horses again. They seem to be just hanging out, lying in the grass. Off in the distance is a large, moving dust cloud that is probably the ponyta again.

Tiki heads towards the giant dust cloud, and slowly drifts in the direction they are going.

Clay follows Tiki over the hill curiously. "Huh, what are those guys?" he asks, observing the black and white horses curiously.

The dust cloud continues on its merry way off in the distance. Way too far to reach before they're gone, and this plain is huge and flat, perfect for the speedy ponyta herd to zip about all day long. They gotta stop eventually though, just a matter of finding out where.

Tiki walks for as long as she can, and eventually has to sit down. She's too tired to keep walking after the constantly moving ponyta.

It occurs to Clay that he never asked how Sam managed to snag a Ponyta in time for the inspection 'mission' the other day. He probably would have mentioned it if asked. Too bad the thought didn't occur to Clay until just now. Poor Tiki is exhausted from trying to follow the hyper-mobile ponyta and just plops down in the grass somewhere. She closes her eyes for just a moment to catch her breath, then feels something crawling on her.

Tiki tries to rest, but gets a creepy crawly feeling. She sits up quickly, and looks at what is crawling on her. "Eeek! What is it!?"

Whatever it was quickly takes off when you screech and sit up. Buzzing around nearby is a weird, bug-like Pokemon.

You wander around the plains for several hours, but never seem to get any closer to the Ponyta herd. As night draws closer, you eventually stop seeing them. Obviously there is more than one watering hole in a place this big.

Clay makes a frustrated noise. "Lemme see if I can find another watering hole. Usually you can figure out where one might be if you figure out the landscape..."
He heads for the top of that ridge again, trying to see if he can spot signs that might lead to another watering hole or somewhere the Ponyta herd might be resting.

From where you're standing, everything looks pretty flat and open. Depending on how big this plain is, you may have to travel further in order to find any other landmarks.
