Going through the halls, Stan gets into territory he hasn't seen; the big dining hall, as well as the open shutters at the end with the table, wherein he can see Teddy talking to a sink.
Teddy himself hears a human-like noise of curiosity. Seconds later, a faze materializes, half-stuck in the wall. The yellow-red eyes of a Misdreavus look at him from halfway through the old paneling, head tilted curiously.

Stan checks the book again. Local currency? That's a good question; CAN they take things out of this storybook world?
Teddy seemed to have the... sink talking... under control. Given that he hadn't made his presence known, the book bearer quietly slipped back down the hall back to where Merchant was quietly painting. He wasn't entirely comfortable searching through someone's pockets but this was on request. A single coin would do, right? Yeah, just a single coin; Stan wouldn't want to upset Merchant by taking more than was necessary.
And even then, Stan would slip something back in return. It didn't seem like this would be useful in these mildly unlit corridors anyways.
Actions: Stan attempts to take a single coin from the pocket Merchant designated. Stan slips an Improvised Gadget: Threaded into Merchant's pocket. It is a wrist-mounted hookshot with a spider silk rope, and grants the Threaded capability when held in the Main Hand or Off Hand slots.

To his delight (and Koffing's confusion), Stan is able to pick a coin from Merchant's pocket, though it's bronze and decently large compared to a regular coin. It looks quite valuable on its own; the other coins jingling in his pocket show how busy Merchant has been living up to his name in this book. The improvised device slips into Merchant's pocket easily among the currency.

Teddy stares at the small shape that appears--before bursting out into a loud belly laugh. "Hello!" He says cheerfully. "It is nice of you to come out!"
"I am Teddy. This is Moon." He says, dipping into a quick bow. "Are you here alone?"

There! One prototype grapple device in practical application! The data from Merchant's use of it would surely be of some help back at the office... assuming they live to tell the tale.
Well, back to business then! There was one thing Stan hadn't fully investigated in that cold room yet; the fireplace! That room was dark as hell; the lack of lights really speak towards how important that one feature was as the only visible light source. Perhaps there was a way to activate it from within the room; it would make for a rather inefficient lounge otherwise.
A flashlight would be of good help here, but given the office monkey's lack of one he'd have to make due. His other prototype, the projectile spark launcher, might give a bit of light when set off. Hopefully enough to find some kind of switch.
Actions: Stan attempts to use his Zapper Improvised Device to provide bits of light while investigating the fireplace room. Stan attempts to find a switch to the fireplace with Perception: uF0viuIw1-61-6 (4) If an obvious switch cannot be found, Stan will use his technical knowledge to figure out how the fireplace functions, and where a switch might theoretically be. Tech Ed: 1-61-61-61-6 Given a failure with the first two, Stan will test to see if the fireplace requires manual activation by launching a Zapper-sourced spark attack down the grill hole in the fireplace.1-6·1-6·1-6·1-6·1-6·1-6

The little ghost looks around curiously, spying Moon, who has since stopped growling. She floats out fully, wafting in front of Teddy's face with a neutral expression, aside from her perpetually-wide eyes. Teddy's intuition seems to tell him she's not particularly afraid or skittish.
The lights provided don't reveal much that he hasn't already seen, and there doesn't seem to be a switch for the fireplace near here. The floor-level grate covers about a ten foot long drop to, as the light reveals, a pile of kindling. Stan's device gives the kindling at the bottom of the pit a good zap, and while the kindling is clearly singed, it doesn't light up like a proper fuel should. Instead, a pleasant smell rises up from the singed pile, reminding him of an Arceusmas tree and fresh gingerbread.
From what he observes, Stan gathers that the kindling in this fireplace is not fuel, but some kind of incense. He can't tell exactly what the incense is from up here, but it's probably meant to burn inside the fire once it's on.

Well. It seemed as though there WAS no switch. Which could only mean one thing.
...this must be one of those manual fireplaces? That you burn actual logs in and is not powered by gas or something? Do those even exist anymore? Heat from the fire might be enough to make the incense flare off... the vent clearly indicates a fire should probably go there. Stan pondered for a moment over this; he had never used a non-electric fireplace before. This might need some extra effort.
Resident's list, residents list. If the office monkey couldn't start a fire on his own, perhaps he could bring in someone with more experience. The smith might be a good pick for this; Mr. Gregory Copperworth, resident tent 34. Granted, a smeltery was likely far different from a furnace but surely the concept was relatively similar... right? At the very least he might be able to make sense of the pipework going on and offer a more proper suggestion for tracking where the incense could be accessed from.
Given that this would likely mean bringing a resident into the castle, Stan pondered what he could offer to make this worth Mr. Copperworth's time. Perhaps a quick sweep of the couch and other furniture for loose change? Even ancient castledwellers were sure to have loose pockets in chairs this comfy!

Teddy stares back at the neutral pokemon, consideringly. He's quiet for a few moments. "You live here?" He asks, looking around the kitchen. "Has been locked up for a long time." Something occurs to the large man and he grins. "Cute ghost, do you hunger?" He slides his back from his shoulder and begins to rummage inside. He frowns as he realizes he's rather low on goods and recalls a pack of snack bars he'd made....that he'd left sitting in his office at the restaurant when he left. Finally he pulls out what he does have. "I do not know what you like. Would you like to try?" He sets them on the counter: a very small, crusty loaf of bread, a small sheet of dried meat with visible flecks of bright red chili sticking to it, and a second bun of bread studded with small nuts and slick with sugar. Teddy is presenting the ghost with fluffed food options: baby food, a spicy wrap, and a sweet confection. Charm to make it love me: uyQXFDve4d6+2 4d6+2
