As Adam and Cleo ran after the unfortunate wild Hoppip, said Hoppip was stuck up in a tree, struggling to free itself from some branches as it continued to cry. Unfortunately, it didn't seem to be making any headway... But then it suddenly stopped, looking over to its side, and then began crying and struggling twice as hard as it was just a moment before, wildly trying to get away from some unseen danger. When the Skitty appeared, the Bunnelby in Beryl's arms gave out a cry, trying to bury itself further into the girl. The girl's Swablu appeared in a flash of light, singing happily as she was released from her Pokeball for the first time. Skye slowly drifted to the ground before turning back to Beryl, giving a happy call of ' Swaaaaaaaaaa~blu' to her trainer. The remaining Poochyena gave a startled cry, jumping up and growling, eyeing Theodore and the Cacnea before suddenly howling. The Poochyena then turned its eyes back to the boy, going into a fighting stance. Poochyena used Howl! The Taillow that had been sitting so happily above it all was suddenly dragged into the ever-escalating situation with a nasty Poison Sting, which hit the bird before it could even react to the fact it was being attacked. The blue bird fell backwards off the branch it had been standing on, falling hard on the ground at the base of the tree. The wild Taillow took a moment to get up, clearly injured, before hopping forward. It cried out in anger as it lifted its wings, whipping them forward to whip up a strong wind! Taillow took 23 points of damage, and is now using Whirlwind!
Accuracy Check: EVLHhv541d20 vs AC 2 vs Poly/Skitty
If it hits, Poly and Skitty are pushed back 7 meters (or to the back of the map, since I don't think they have 7 spaces behind them to be pushed). The Skitty, picking itself up after being pushed back so far, hissed a little at the Taillow... Before catching sight of its own tail, moving behind itself. The pink cat-like creature picked itself back up and began chasing after its own tail, seeming to forget everything going on around it! 1d20

"Shoulda known you rough n' tumble types like ta stick together, guess it's time for one o' them 'hard lessons'. Cordell, yer up. I know you ain't never shot a Pokemon what didn't deserve it, but it's high noon somewhere. Now draw!" The Cacnea stared at him blankly for a moment. "Raise yer arm, holdin yer needles like this." Theodore held his thumb and pointer finger in an L-Shape. "Use yer thumb like a sight, and give'em a Poison Sting." Cacnea took a bit of time to follow the command, but it figured it out eventually. Theodore gives Cordell Focused Orders as Priority, then withdraws two meters behind Cacnea at Initiative 10. Cacnea fires Poison Sting from close range following the motion instructed.

Adam gritted his teeth, picking up the pace as much as he could. If it was struggling like that, something was in that tree with it. Something predatory and BAD. He had to stop it from happening. He wouldn't be able to forgive himself if he had torn this friendship apart and just WATCHED one of them perish. He turned his head, hollering. "Come on Cleo! We have to help it!" With that, his eyes locked back on the tree, attempting to figure out what was threatening the Hoppip now. Adam's Perception, AP added. Ll4uu2vv2d6+1

"A-alright." Beryl used her free hand to pet the fluffy bird, letting the sight of her draw a smile on her face. "Okay, Beryl, think," she muttered to herself, while her hand drifted down to absently pet the bunnelby. She got a bit of an epiphany, at that moment. "Your name will be Skye," she informed the swablu with an even-handed tone. "If you like it, that is. Skye, could you please go help that boy over there? Get the hoppip down from that tree, and make sure it's safe, okay? She then turned to the bunnelby, combing back its large ears. "And you, you'll be Jura, if you want to come with me. I need your help over there, she said, and pointed to the two ongoing altercations nearby. "If you'd rather not, then I'll just keep you away from the scary poochyenas, alright?" She felt calmer, now that she had something else to focus on. This wasn't the start to her journey she had planned, but then again, few things went how she'd like on the whole. While Cordell was figuring out to use its decidedly not finger-like needles to perform this "finger pistol" action, the wild Poochyena charged, opening its jaw to reveal crackling electricity before going to take a big chomp out of the Cacnea. The wild Poochyena uses Thunder Fang!
AC 3: oOYdi5_n1d20 If it hits, damage: 2d6+20 Cordell grimaced a bit, almost taking a step back before bringing one arm up, firing a Poison Sting at point-blank range into the Poochyena, almost knocking the Bite Pokemon backward from the sheer force of the attack. The Poochyena yelped at the attack's power, and then took a step back, whining as it cautiously watched Cordell. As Adam neared the tree, the source of this Hoppip's renewed distress becomes clear. The terrifying tree-dweller was covered in a horrible red shell, dotted with menacing black dots, and its head possessed threatening black horns that moved backward... As it neared the Hoppip, the Hoppip continued to cry at an increasing volume, until the horrible creature was upon it, reaching out to the helpless pink Pokemon with one grisly white balled-up hand... Which the Ledyba used to gently pat the Hoppip on the head, attempting to calm its fellow wild Pokemon. The Hoppip was oblivious to this kind gesture, and continued to cry wildly. Skye whistled three happy notes as if to tell Beryl that she understood perfectly, and began flapping her way to aid Adam in his attempts to rescue that Hoppip. The Bunnelby, meanwhile, looked up where it had been trying to hide under Beryl's arms to look up at the girl. The small Pokemon sniffed once, and then nodded at the girl's words, hopping out of her hands and standing proud on the ground in front of her, striking a pose as if it was going to defend her. The Bunnelby took one look in the direction of the Poochyena altercation and shivered, and then turned itself in the direction of the wild Skitty - and then vaulted itself in the pink cat's direction, pointing its body so that its ears would make the impact against its opponent. Bunnelby uses Tackle!
AC 2: 1d20 If it hits, damage: 2d6+18 The Skitty stopped chasing its own tail as this Bunnelby faking bravery lunged at it. Rather than recoiling, the Skitty seemed to almost prepare for the attack, smiling coyly at the Digging Pokemon, waving its tail a little behind it as it did so. If Tackle hits, Skitty activates Cute Charm. Regardless, Skitty uses Tail Whip!
AC 2: 1d20 The Taillow watched as the ball thrown by Abigail fell harmlessly at its side, and then turned to stare at the girl, murder in its eyes. The small bird Pokemon stretched its wings and flew at the girl, angrily screeching as it flew. 1d20·2d6+20·1d20·2d6+18·1d20

Adam gives a small chuckle as he sees what's happening, making his way to the tree at a quick pace. Maybe he'd be able to calm them both down if he showed the Hoppip that its friend was okay? He returned Cleo, the poor dear was lagging behind on her tiny legs. He'd have to see about fixing that speed of hers later, maybe with some training. For now, he released Buttercup, who floated over to her friend to show that she was okay. Adam grinned, looking up into the tree at the Hoppip and the Ledyba. "Hello to both of you! Thank you for helping the Hoppip calm down." He nodded to the bug, respecting the fact that they didn't have to fight right now. He looked to the Hoppip, a very apologetic look on his face. "I'm very sorry for scaring you like that! I thought my friend was going to ask you to come along too! Well, I'm not going to separate the two of you, so I'LL ask. Would you like to come with us? You can stay with your friend, and I won't make either of you fight unless you want to. As for you..." He points at the Ledyba, a smirk on his face. "How'd you like to come with me, and become my assistant? Hours are good." He still had a few pokeball... And two more stars had just appeared in front of him. How could he say no? "Ain't no shame in walkin' away. You mosey n'keep to yourself, we don't have anymore problems." Theodore hooks his thumbs into his belt loops and casts a glance at the cactus. The bite wasn't too bad, Cordell was surprisingly rugged, and it was pleasing. "If he ain't gone by the count of five, we'll show him a crack shot."Focused Orders on Cordell. If Poochyena retreats on it's action, it'll be spared. If it instead attacks or stays, provided Cordell isn't fainted, there'll be another poison sting at Initiative 5.

Beryl winced upon seeing the rabbit miss so severely, but she felt relieved when the other pokémon did as well. "Jura!" She shouted, trying to get the bunnelby's attention in its moment of respite. "Focus!" She ordered, hoping the next attack would go her way.

The Hoppip now known as Butterup floated up to her wild friend, which between the friendly Ledyba and its own friends' reassurances calmed the wild Hoppip considerably. Buttercup secured herself on a branch and continued to pat her friend's head while the Ledyba began pulling on the Grass type, and soon enough the wild Hoppip was pulled free! As Adam gave his proposal to the wild Hoppip and Ledyba, Buttercup chimed in with a few happy 'Hop! Hop!'s. The wild Hoppip nodded almost immediately, floating down to Adam and smiling up at the boy. The Ledyba, meanwhile, seemed to mull things over for a minute or two, turning back to the forest behind it, then to Adam, and then toward Butercup... But it, too, eventually nodded, and dropped down to hover in the air next to Adam, outstretching one hand as if to shake Adam's. The Poochyena continued to whine, switching its gaze between the cowboy and the cactus, before turning around... Only to turn back, snarling again, running at Cordell! Wild Poochyena doesn't know when to quit! It's using Tackle now.
AC 2: j4gJ97|N1d20 If it hits: 1d8+18 and Cordell is pushed back 2 meters. Abigail's second throw was dead-on, smacking the wild Taillow in the face as it flew forward, and the bird Pokemon was sucked into the capture device. The ball wiggled once before making a click! sound, and the Taillow was captured! Poly seemed content enough to simply watch on as the Bunnelby and Skitty both attempted to fight one another. The Bunnelby was a bit shook up over having failed so spectacularly while trying to impress Beryl, but took its second chance to launch itself, ears-first, at the Skitty again! The Skitty made no moves to dodge, instead content to continue smiling with its smug face at Bunnelby with its tail still swishing back and forth behind it. Take two! Bunnelby uses Tackle!
AC 2: 1d20 If it hits: 2d6+18 and Skitty is pushed back 2 meters.
If hit, Skitty activates Cute Charm. Either way, Skitty is using Tail Whip again!

Abby takes a second to congratulate herself on the capture before remembering the two Poochyena. She notices there is only one left, staring down Cacnea, and remembers hearing the sound of a Pokeball making a capture.
"Poly, don't fight unless you have to! But if it comes up, Twineedle anything that tries to hurt you."
She runs towards the fight as fast as she can and throws a Pokeball with all her might, hoping not to recreate the first throw at the Taillow.

Theodore watches the ball snatch up the Poochyena after it slams into Cordell, the Cacnea's chest bruising from the impact as it totters backwards but doesn't fall. Bracing itself on it's arms, the circles that make up it's mouth draw into a thin line. The boy frowns a little and tugs the brim of his hat down. "Impolite to interfere in a man's duel Miss Abigail. If you wanted to catch it, should've said something and Ah'd have left you to it." His tone was gruff and slightly put out. Taking to a knee, he passes Cordell his canteen after removing the cap, and fishes a small tin of herbal paste from a pocket in his vest. "You did good, just relax fer a few." Cordell takes one injury, Theodore has his starter drink an enriched water as an extended action while tending to the Cacnea.

Abby smiles, near panting for air.
"A duel? We were outnumbered from the beginning. Besides, I didn't want to see the Pokemon get knocked out, would have been a shame to miss out on the chance to have an extra scout in the field."

Adam gave the Hoppip a gentle hug, pulling out a pokeball for it to ride along in. This whole trainer thing was a lot easier than he'd thought it would be thus far. However, that could just be because he'd met some friendly pokemon. If things had started more hostile, this situation could have gone completely differently. He'd have to keep that in mind for the future. For now, he returned Buttercup and gently tapped an empty pokeball against the male Hoppip's head, watching it fade into red light and swirl into the ball.
With that love story resolved for now, Adam turned his attention to the Ledyba, who was now extending a hand. He took it and shook gently, not wanting to hurt the bug. "It's a pleasure to have you aboard. We'll discuss hourly, policies and vacation later. For now, what say we get you set up in a pokeball and go meet up with my traveling companions?" He extends a pokeball, lightly tapping it against the Ledyba's hand, and watched it be absorbed into the ball. He'd have to think of a good name for his new assistant later. He thought he had a good one for the male hoppip, but more pressing matters were at hand! He had to go show off... He means reunite with his group! Can't be too boastful about this, that'd be unbecoming. If they ask he'd inform them, but until then let it be a fun surprise! That seemed like the best way to set the scene. So for now, Adam tucked the three filled pokeballs into his belt and made his way back to his group. Didn't seem like they were quite done fighting with those wild pokemon that had shown up shortly after he'd taken off running, but he was sure they'd manage just fine without his interference. There were three of them and... What, one cat? Did they befriend the rabbit? They should be just fine, Adam reassured himself as he took in the view of nature around him, a half-dozen potential scenes already emerging in his mind.

Beryl took her eyes off the bunnelby for a second, to try and check on Skye. Skye was so far away, though... was that a ledyba? On turning back, she saw Jura get a hit in... and then pull back acting all strange. "Jura? Are you okay? Don't lose focus..." she tried to remind them, with some hesitation. What if her pokemon got hurt in her first battle? No way... Before she knew it, she was already a step closer to the pink cat. By the time she noticed what she was doing, the pokeball was already in the air. bXvFYcXi1-20 Pokeball Throw

The Bunnelby shook its head, doing its best not to look at the Skitty, and then swiveled its head to look at Beryl. The small grey Pokemon put on its toughest face at the girl's encouragement - but as soon as the Bunnelby turned to look at the Skitty again, it started acting funny again, but still the Bunnelby charged forward! Bunnelby uses Tackle again!
AC 2: Rlx5Nbhm1d20 If it hits: 2d6+14
After this, Bunnelby's roll to toss off the Infatuation is:
Check of 16+ cures: 1d20 The Pokeball thrown at the pink feline hits its target, but the Skitty bursts out only a second after being sucked into the ball. The Skitty meows cutely at the Bunnelby, seemingly undisturbed by the Dirt Pokemon's continued attempts at attack or even the attempt made at capturing it. Skitty uses Growl!
AC 2: 1d20 Cordell had fallen forward a bit following the big hit from the Poochyena, and was only barely holding itself up with its left arm. The Cacnea was clearly quite battered from the attack, but the fire was still burning in his eyes - but that quickly gave way to what almost looked like shock as his Trainer offered up the healing concoction. The Cacnea sat back and downed the liquid as it was provided, smiling up at Theodore after it was all gone. 1d20·2d6+14·1d20·1d20

"Don't think about it too much Cordell, we gotta look after each other. I ain't much of a fighter, but someday I want to be the rugged sort of man that stands tall with his Pokemon, just like in the pictures. If you're good, we can mosey. May as well look for more Pokemon about with everyone already stirring up a big fuss." Theodore gave the Cacnea an affectionate pat on the shoulder and rose. Briefly, he took in the other's activities, and decided that they were all pretty set. The false alarm from Abigail still stung a bit, so the young Weed decided to tumble north to check the trees for more Pokemon.

Was she doing it wrong? Pokémon weren't supposed to just... ignore pokéballs! Had the ball been faulty? Yes, it must have been. It couldn't possibly be that she's incompetent, incapable, and bad at this in a way that she'd never be able to rectify... oh, Arceus. She had to force herself, trembling, to get another pokéball ready and- and try again. To make sure! She didn't want to be sure... HLZr8iYr1-20 Pokéball Throw
