Abigail watches Adam and Theodore interact with their Pokemon and holds her Pokeball in front of her. She had seen her father with several Pokemon, including the Scolipede. It seemed rather natural to him. Realizing that all of her experience with Pokemon directly had come from either wilds attracted by her father's Ranger equipment or highly trained Pokemon in general made her feel slightly overwhelmed. Now the pressure was on her to do the training.
She sends the Venipede out in front of her, smiling warmly at it as she checks her Pokedex for general information regarding it. Well, her, not it.
"You're just a little Roly-poly type fellow aren't you?"
She reachesaid out and pets her, getting what seems to be a smile from her Pokemon.
"I think I like that as a name for you actually. Poly. You and I are gonna do some great work together, you know that?"
Poly seems to agree in that regard, putting a great exclamation point on their first meeting. The more she thinks on it, Abby realises that with a beginning this good, what could possibly go wrong?

Adam's Numel looked up at the blue-haired boy for almost a full minute with her sad-looking eyes before suddenly switching gears entirely, smiling widely as she nudged Adam's hand with the side of her head with a reassuring 'Num'.Cacnea took the hand as best it could without hands of its own, shaking Theodore's hand vigorously with its own spiked arms. He took his new trainer's smile and did his best to duplicate it, closing his eyes and doing a Cacnea's version of beaming. Poly, as Abigail's Venipede was to be called, looked almost bored at first glance - but that's just the natural look of a Venipede, after all. Poly's closed eyes and her leaning in to the petting were more than sign enough that she was more than glad to be on her way on your adventure.
After a quick stop at a small local restaurant at Beryl's request, the newly-formed team made their way out of Mint Town to the route directly to its west - Route 1. Although chances are you've been on this route before (maybe even today, if you came into Mint Town on the path!), the route holds all sorts of brand new possibilities for the four newly-dubbed trainers. With their Pokedex, starter Pokemon, and a handful of empty Pokeballs, this route is more than just a simple path from point A to point B. A small blue bird sits quietly in the branches of a nearby tree, keeping a close eye on the four new trainers, while two strange pink Pokemon are frolicking in the flowers, occasionally jumping up and floating in the air as they play. As Angie said before, it'd be hard to ask for a better day to start an adventure.

Adam gave him Numel a gentle rub, his heart nearly melting at the display of affection. They'd had a good lunch, and now he let Cleo walk beside him as they entered Route 1. If this were a movie or a game, he'd put a small cut-away here with "Route One" along the bottom of the screen, maybe an aerial view panning over from the far end of the route? Well, those were thoughts for when he actually had a crew and a better camera than the one installed in his Pokedex. It'd be fine for now, when he was making small films with just Cleo, but in the future he'd need to buy some better equipment. Maybe with some prize money... For now, he turned his attention to the pokemon ahead of them.
"Do you guys see anything you want? I want to try befriending one of the pink ones."

"There's all sorts, do your best to understand," Beryl mumbled so only she could hear, clutching the pokéball at her belt. Her cheeks glowed a dull red when she realized she was quoting someone who was barely a walk away. She's just too prone to idolizing older people. "The bunnelby there looks fairly strong but... But she couldn't catch a pokémon without one of her own to weaken it with, and she was just too scared to bring out her one choice. What if her swablu hated her on sight? "Does anyone else want it?" She asked with a smile, trying to mask her anxiety. She could live with staying out of the battle for now; she had so many things to write about already! Beryl spends 1 AP to Archive Route 1

Looking at the Hoppip and Bunnelby, Abby is excited to be on the start of her journey. She had waited practically her whole life for this moment. Before she can get ahead of herself, she eyes the Taillow in the tree above. She had heard stories from her dad about how useful birds were in the field, as they could scout ahead and warn of danger.
"If no one else minds, I want to go for that bird. I think it'll have some tactical use in the future."

"Listen t' y'all, talkin' 'bout Pokemon like they's just some kinda thing to have. D' you 'want it'. Tarnation, can't rightly believe it. C'mon Cordell, let's go have a talk nice like with one o' them..." Pointing his Pokedex at one of the Hoppip, it unfolded impressively, registering a soft ding. It brought an image up on screen and began speaking. "Hoppip I guess they's called. Cordell, do Pokemon give each other nicknames too? I knows you can't talk too well to us human types, but it seems like you can be right decent to each other."
Theodore's voice began to grow distant as he approached the grass Pokemon, talking in that rustic accent, asking the weirdest questions of his starter. As he finally neared one of the Pokemon, he tripped impressively over his own feet and landed without so much as a grunt at eye level with it. "Hey there fella, er is it ma'am? Sorry teh drop in like this."

As Adam and Theodore made their way over to the two Hoppip, the small pink Pokemon stopped their bouncing and playing to stare at the two boys. The one that Theodore had fallen in front of stared at the downed cowboy for a moment before deciding to return to its happy bouncing - this time, bouncing off from the young Weed's head! The other Hoppip, hearing the joyous sounds of fun, turned away from Adam and joined its companion in jumping on and around Theo. Adam and Theodore: Charm checks, please! The Bunnelby's left ear twitched once or twice before it turned its head toward the two girls. Rather than turning tail and hopping away, the little Digging Pokemon made a straight line for the girls, hiding behind Beryl's legs as it stared back at the long grass it had been near a moment before. Abigail and Beryl: Perception checks, if you would! The boys can make one as well, if they aren't too busy being entertained by the Cottonweed Pokemon.

"Aight, aight, you both need to settle. No need to go trompin on strangers no matter how light ya is." Theodore chuckled helplessly, propping himself up on his elbows and settling a hand across one set of leaves. "Know it wasn't you what put me in th' dirt, it's these two left feet, but hop on pop weren't a book I liked, and I ain't yer pop, so settle."

Abby notices the Bunnelby acting strange, hiding behind a stranger. Whatever is in that grass is likely not going to be pleasant.

Beryl let out a surprised squeak as the pokemon rushed past her ankles. She immediately tried to step to the side and get away from the untamed creature, but her nervous paralysis got in the way, delivering her to the ground straight on her butt. The painful fall gave her a grimace to show for it, even as she tried to put her focus on whatever spooked the rabbit. Beryl Devinimade a Perception Check! | Z8hQGwLt3d6+2 from Chornicler! |

Adam watched the scene, surpressing a laugh. It was kind of adorable watching the tough cowboy be bounced on by the friendly pokemon. He caught himself though, putting a hand in his pocket and pulling out an Oran berry. Now was the time for friendship, not recording hilarity. He offered the Oran Berry to the Hoppip he'd originally come to talk to. "Would you like a snack?" He offered, giving a gentle smile. Charm Roll 3vuyq5Le3d6 Perception roll 2d6 3d6·2d6

The two Hoppip stopped bouncing on Theo after being told off, moving off of the cowboy to allow him to get up. The Hoppip Theo had fallen in front of was more than happy to get a gentle pat on the head from the boy, while the other bounced up, floating over to Adam to see what the other new friend was holding out. Without any gusts of wind to blow it around or away, the lazily-spinning leaves on the Hoppip's head were what steered it over to the other boy, until the small pink Pokemon was perched on Adam's arm. The Hoppip on Adam looked at from the berry to the boy, and back to the berry, before giving a happy 'Hop!' and grabbing the given berry, munching away at the gift.
Beryl and Abigail, both looking over at the area where the Bunnelby had run from, see two identical dark grey shapes moving in the grass! Now that you've spotted them, their low growls of frustration are much easier to hear, but the two shapes seem reluctant to move out of the grass now that their target has hidden itself behind the two young trainers...

Adam chuckles, offering the Hoppip a gentle pat on the head as it munches away. It was adorable little thing, and he thought it could shine both on the screen and on the battlefield. So, with that in mind, he pulled out a pokeball, holding it out. "I was wondering if perhaps you'd like to come travel with me? I'm just starting, so you'd get to see a lot of the country, maybe even the world! There will be danger, adventure, romance, who knows what else!" He grins, getting himself excited as he offered the option to come with him. "And, I can grow my own berries, so plenty of those, if you're interested in that. So, what do you say? Want to sign the contract?" He held the pokeball within reach of the Hoppip, waiting for an answer with an excited smile on his face.

Beryl paled, quickly rising to her feet with her arms around the rabbit, holding it to her chest. Predatorial pokemon already? "G-guys!" She called out, trying to warn them. They should get away and then contact Professor Pine from safety, she thought at that moment. It didn't even cross her mind to mind the wild pokemon's feelings about being held like that.

At Beryl's distressed call, Theodore gave a quick glance over his shoulder and began to rise. "It was nice meetin' you feller, but duty calls. C'mon Cordell." Walking to the middle of the path, he followed the girl's line of sight to the bushes.

Abby watches and nods to herself as Theo challenges the Poochyena. Ideally she'd be able to capture one of the two, as dogs have an incredible ability to track targets long distances. For the time being though, she was intent on getting the Taillow. One could never underestimate the advantage it could grant. She sends out Poly before pointing over towards the tree the Taillow is sitting in. There's a bird up there, I want you to get as close to it as you can and get it with Poison Sting and see if we can get it out of the tree.Poly is acting under Agility Orders, +4 Initiative and +1 Movement Speeds [/b]

The Hoppip on Adam's arm took a moment to consider, as it finished nibbling on the berry it had been given. When it finally finished, the Hoppip took a moment, glancing from Adam to its fellow Hoppip, before touching the face of the Pokeball. As the ball opened, a red light flew forth, enveloping the Hoppip as the Cottonweed's physical form turned into this same red light. The red light, Hoppip and all as far as anyone can tell, went back into the ball as quickly as it had come out, and the ball shook. Once, twice, three times - and then the ding, signalling a successful capture! The other Hoppip made a small, pitiful noise as it hopped up into the air, slowly making its way through the air towards Adam and the ball its friend had just disappeared into... But at that moment, the gentle breeze picked up. For anyone else, this wouldn't be noteworthy, but this wild Hoppip was picked up and sent flying to the west, crying out as it was ripped away from its friend and taken into the woods in that direction. The wild Bunnelby didn't mind being picked up, and in fact was now doing its best to bury itself in Beryl's arms, holding its ears down over its eyes as it turned away from the two Poochyena. Said Poochyena seemed surprised that someone was actually approaching them, let alone calling them out. The two Pokemon warily came forth out of the tall grass, growling all the while as they sized up this truthfully intimidating individual - and the living cactus ball beside him. But their growls quickly turned to whines as they sat, one staring at the ground while the other continued to bare its fangs and stare at Theodore. As Poly is sent out and prepares to use Poison Sting as ordered, it is suddenly interrupted by a good deal of rustling in the tall grass on the other side of the fairly low wooden fencing. All of a sudden, a rather cute-looking pink and tan creature with a big, almost bulbous tail pops out of the grass, quite easily jumping up onto and then over the fence beside Poly! The feline Pokemon rushes at the Venipede, trying to maximize the shock of its sudden appearance to get a good hit in. Skitty uses Fake Out! Accuracy Check: YPFv5C_B1d20 If it hits, damage is: 2d6+8+7 If Fake Out hits, Poly flinches.
Edit: I goofed up the damage roll, so lets try again:

The look on Adam's face as the Hoppip is torn away from them is a look of pure, unadulterated horror. The kind of horror that comes from, for example, watching a monster tear your mother from you as you're trying to escape, or when your dreams are shattered. That look takes about two seconds to change from horror to determination as Adam glares at the trees in the distance. It was a bit of a distance away, but if he hurried... He looked to Cleo and nodded, motioning for her to follow. "I'll be right back!" He shouted as he sprinted off towards the Hoppip, Cleo in hot pursuit! He grumbled, wishing he'd have realized sooner that these pokemon were so light... Maybe that'd get fixed as they evolved? Either way, he couldn't bear to see a friendship torn apart like this, especially since he had accidentally caused it. He powered through, knowing it would take him a bit to reach it, but seeing the Hoppip in the tree worried him. It would stop being blown away by the wind, but what about other pokemon? He kept an eye out as he ran, not wanting anything ELSE to happen to this poor duo of pokemon by his hand. Using Sprint, moved 7 spaces for Adam and 6 for Cleo.

"H-hey, don't..." Beryl started to say, though Adam put distance between them much too quickly. "... don't split up..." she mumbled in his general direction, with a sigh. What was she supposed to do now? So many things happening at once... Should she help Abby? Adam? the bunnelby in her arms. She looked down at the furry creature, hiding from danger. She needed help. She couldn't be everywhere at once.
With a hesitant movement, she swung the bunnelby a bit, to free up one of her arms. Her trembling hand then reached for the pokeball at her belt, and with a pause to take a deep breath, threw it gently forward. "Sk-Skye, I choose you!" She said, to try and salvage the moment, though she was much too scared to really feel the passion at that moment.

"Welp, I can see a stern talkin' to ain't going to be enough for one of ya's, so yer gonna have to come with me. Cordell, let's put him out with just one attack, give it a Grasswhistle!" Theodore snapped a Pokeball from the empties in his belt and gave it a spin along his knuckles to hold in the crook of his thumb and pointer finger. Hand pulled into that gun-like shape, he held for Cordell's attack, then made the attempt to capture the varmint. Cordell uses Grasswhistle on Initiative 5 Theodore follows it with a Pokeball
