Marshall starts forward after Terry, pausing only to curtly thank Brandon for the tip. He's only limping ever so slightly and for just a moment before he's back at full steam and racing Terry across town towards the entrance of the forest.

Brandon smiled ruefully and shrugged when the boys took off. "You've got to admire their enthusiasm, if not their sense." He glanced at Amber. "If you're going with them, I'd be prepared for battle. Whatever's disturbing the Beedrills is probably more than the average trainer around here can handle." He coughed self-consciously. "Not that, uh, you guys seemed particularly weak when you battled us."

"I've got a couple of type advantages for the forest, so I think we'll be alright. Although you're right I better catch up with the guys. I definitely don't wanna be going in there by myself." Amber said with a smile. Normally she'd be cursing at the thought of running to a deep forest, but somehow trailing behind the excited boys gave her enough energy to get towards the entrance.

Chuch realized Terry had charged out only when Marshall had shot out after him.
He exchanged a momentary look with Amber, and sighed. Thanking Brandon, they exited the Gym. Church saw two figures, reminiscent of wild Tauros, running towards the looming forest in the distance. Church trailed after them, not even trying to keep up with their speed. They were both really excited to go there. Terry obviously wanted the Bug-types. Marshall...was Marshall.
He had planned to stock up on Pokéballs for the forest, but his teammates were way ahead for that. Another time maybe.

i1380.photobucket.com/albums/ah182/chrystalrogue/Buzz%20post%20avatar%2020130505183230_Qimew_zpskldlaqqc.jpeg The two eager trainers encountered a young man with messy blond hair and glasses on the outskirts of Viridian Forest. Bearing a strong familial resemblance to Brandon, he must have been Buzz Bicker - the Viridian City Gym Leader! Unfortunately, he did not look at all happy to see them. He was scowling as he raked his fingers back through sweaty hair, barely concealing a scowl at the sight of the leading trainers and their friends following behind. “Woah, slow down there! What’s the big rush?” He jabbed his thumb back at the forest behind him, then hooked his thumbs into his belt. “This place is off-limits to anyone without a Pokemon League exemption. There’s been a lot of ecological disturbance in here, and we don’t need any over-eager trainers messing things up more.”

Church was almost catching up when he saw that the two runners ahead of him had gotten suddenly closer. He noticed that it wasn't that he was catching up to their pace, but rather that they had ceased moving altogether.
Slowing down and making sure Amber was following from a close distance, he caught his breath for a moment and greeted the figure. He recognized him as the local Gym Leader.
"H-hi!" he managed, pacing up to where Buzz was. My name's Martin, but they call me Church, nice to meet you. These two are Marshall and Terry, and back there is Amber. I'll keep it short, my side is all cramped and it's killing me. We got our Pokédexes from Prof. Oak yesterday and came to challenge you for Badges. Seeing that you had an issue, we thought it would be more beneficial for everyone involved to help you out with whatever was happening.
He paused, fighting the urge of bending over and putting his hands on his knees for ease of breath.
He managed to stand upright and finished:
"So, what can we do for you? We're certainly more than capable. You've seen the stamina these two have, and as far as these two days have shown, our battling skills are pretty competent, if I do say so myself.

Amber was of course the last to arrive, but she felt slightly confident that she managed to somewhat keep up with Church (unbeknownst to her that he had intentionally not left her in the dust). She was still breathing heavily and sweaty enough that she considered taking of her jacket. It wasn't like she would have to look presentable for anyone anytime soon. Who knows how long the group would be in the forest searching for... "Buzz Bicker. Sweaty Buzz Bicker."Amber felt her hands instinctively go for her Pokedex. She began to furiously tap away, but paused. Man he really didn't look like he was in a good mood. She placed her Dex back in her pocket. "Soon Amber. We'll take one when he's distracted. Yes. Soon" she thought with a smile. Trying not to be tongue tied and out of breath Amber mumbled, "Your brother -oh uh, we battled yesterday- told us there was something wrong with the hives? Can we help?"

"Also you should really lock your gym when everyone leaves. And I'm also because I've been waiting to get into a bug filled forest all of my life." Terry says, sheepishly rubbing the back of his head. I mean, I really want more bug pokemon. And Viridian Forest is full of them. Beedrill, Butterfree, Spinarak, Kricketot, maybe even Nincada! I can't just walk away from a chance to fill out my team!" He says, speaking faster and faster. "So whats the issue anyway? How many people do you have just guarding it, there's no way just you can keep everyone out of an area so big. And why are you a guard anyway, shouldn't that be someone else while you handle the hive issue? Is it poachers? A rival swarm? A Vespiqueen trying to take over? A rival bug trainer, trying to secure the position of gym leader?" Terry finishing, starting to pant.

Feeling his heart only just beginning to race from the brief dash across Viridian City, Marshall didn't want to let the cardio opportunity go to waste. As the others barraged Buzz with questions, he kept up his movements, alternating between jogging in place and one handed pushups.

i1380.photobucket.com/albums/ah182/chrystalrogue/Buzz%20post%20avatar%2020130505183230_Qimew_zpskldlaqqc.jpeg “Aside from the Pokemon League tracking TID and the location and time of a capture for prosecution under the usual statutes against poaching?” Buzz didn’t look terribly moved by Terry’s impassioned plea, nor did he look terribly inclined towards explaining the ins and outs of his operation. “Swarms of angry Beedrills, mostly. They barely tolerate me, kid. I can’t let you kids get hurt making a bad situation worse.”He looked over at Amber, his stern expression softening a bit as he pushed his glasses back up the bridge of his nose. “If you want to help instead of poach, you could try to find out what’s gotten the Heracross riled up and attacking the hives. Catching them all really won’t work; extirpating a species would just disrupt the ecosystem more, albeit in less visible and dangerous ways. It’s a solution, but not a good solution.”

Marshall jogs over to Amber, who is hanging back, and says "What the hell did he just say? That sounded like a bunch of legal mumbo jumbo. What's a pouch? What's a Heracross? Some sorta bear pokemon? They like honey, right?" The sound of his voice, combined with his continued activity, at the current moment, jumping jacks, means that Amber is likely to have missed the latter third of what Buzz said.

Amber was, of course, over the moon as she caught Buzz Bicker's attention. She wanted to savor each moment she could hear his lovely commanding voice. Which was kinda hard to do as Marshall began his exercise routine right next to her. She wanted to give him a death glare but didn't want to risk taking her eyes off of the gym leader. Once Buzz was finished, Amber mustered up as much assertiveness as she could, "Well Marshall, Buzz wants us to deal with...whatever is disturbing the Heracross that are disturbing the Beedrill. And Heracross are bugs, not bears."Mechanics: Pitiful intimidate check 5FFDs0vG1d6 1d6

"A Heracross is a fighting/bug type beetle pokemon with a powerful horn that causes it to somewhat resemble a Rhydon. They generally eat tree sap and fight by flipping foes in the air with their horn." Terry says, racking his brain for information on Heracross. (Poke Ed roll was 11)
"We'll definitely do that. I can't walk away from a bug in need!"

"Poachers? Here? How long have they been active? What are they hunting?" Church couldn't remember any poaching criminal organization that targeted species found in Viridian Forest. Aside from Pikachu, quite a popular pet, Pokémon found there were quite common and not in high demand.
This was quite interesting.
He remembered what Buzz had asked them and added "We'll deal with the angry Heracross, no problem. Would you like us to report as soon as we've found the cause via Holo Caster? We wouldn't want to take any reckless choices if the situation's delicate. Let's register then"
He signaled toward Amber, who seemed to be focused in observing her surroundings. Amber was always taking notes of the people she met. Surely, she was very good at handling information and contacts, and she meticulously analyzed them as she was doing with Buzz, carefully observing him for details. She should handle this sort of thing.
"Amber, why don't you register Buzz and give him a call when we find the Heracross?"

And just as soon as she was cooling off, all of a sudden Amber was sweaty again. She looked towards Church with a combined emotion of bewilderment, anger, fear, and pure elated joy. "Y-Yeah sure. Sounds...cool." Amber replied, a few octaves higher than usual. She tapped on her pokedex, managing to get to the contacts page without taking her eyes off of Buzz Bicker. She paused for a few seconds before gathering her courage and stepping towards the Gym Leader. "Yeah I hope you don't mind if we go with that plan. Also, would you ah-" Amber swallowed, "-could I maybe get your picture...so I can know who's calling?"Mechanics: Drain 1 AP for Chronicler

i1380.photobucket.com/albums/ah182/chrystalrogue/Buzz%20post%20avatar%2020130505183230_Qimew_zpskldlaqqc.jpeg “Could - could you stop that?” Buzz asked Marshall with a mildly annoyed expression. “It’s rather distracting.”To the others, he said, “the kid’s right - except instead of eating tree sap like they’re supposed to, these Heracross are raiding hives for honey. That leads me to believe there’s something scaring them off from the trees, but I haven’t been able to find it yet. To be honest, it’s about all we can do to keep kids out of the Forest proper. Everyone thinks they’re all hot stuff and can handle ‘a few bugs’, but it generally turns out . . . poorly. If you’re serious about wanting to help, I’d suggest going in at night - Beedrills are diurnal - with a Poochyena or something that can track and sniff. Maybe you’d be able to find something I wasn’t.”He glanced at Amber, a curious expression mingling apprehension and bemusement on his face. “. . . Sure?” he assented, albeit hesitantly, before reaching into his back pocket to pull out his own Pokedex. “I take it you’re the one whose contact info I’ll be getting, then?”

Church thought for a moment. If the Heracross weren't feeding from their natural food source, then something must either be competing with them and outclassing them, or denying their food source altogether to the point of making them go fight Beedrills seem a better option than fighting the invader...
It would be more plausible if their food source was gone, but trees were very abundant. It was, after all, a forest.
"What kind of species can get into the forest and scare Heracross so bad that they want to take on the Beedrills? Have you seen any foreign species in the forest lately?". The implications were very concerning, the more he thought about it.

My duties with the Gym have been keeping me in town, especially with the Academy graduating soon. It could be there's something causing trouble, but I can't think of any Pokemon species that could conflict with Heracross like this.”

"I think Pinsir and Heracross are natural rivals, but I can't imagine a Heracross backing off from such a fight." Terry says, scratching his head. "Is it possible something is poisoning the trees the Heracross feed off of? With their primary food source removed they'd have no choice but to look elsewhere."

The wireless connectivity on the pokedexes took awhile, allowing everyone else to ask a few more questions on the situation. Soon the screen showed a popup saying "Contacts Updated." She double checked just to make sure all of the information was correct. "That should do it!" Amber beamed as she quickly switched functions so the Gym Leader couldn't back down. "Say 'Cheese,' Mr. Bicker!"
