Hey!
If you're reading this, it is likely because you are considering me for a spot in your game! Well, either that or you're just sussing out the new guy cuz' why not, right? Either way, let's not muck about and get right to it!
My name is Chris, and I'm a 22-year-old from Australia. Yes, the place with all the bitey-stinger-i-doos. I'm studying to become a social worker, but given by location in the country I do so externally to save myself the 4-hour commute. I also work on the weekends, because I like not starving to death. Basically what this means is... I don't get out much. But that's why you guys are here!!
Okay. Time for the technical stuff. I haven't played PTU before; in fact, I only recently learned of its existence. I have been staring intently at the pdfs for a solid 72-hours or so, occasionally wading through the sea of mostly-empty coffee mugs that carpet my floors to use the restroom. As a result, I THINK I've got the gist of it. I've got about 3-years of DnD under my belt, so I'm no stranger to tabletop roleplaying as a genre. I am, however, unfamiliar with the PBP format... sort of.
I should expand on that. See, I've never played a tabletop roleplaying game in a pbp format. What I do have a chunk of experience with is playing on a site called Mizahar. For those of you unfamiliar with it, it's a fantasy setting game with heavy emphasis on writing quality. Of course, I imagine there are a few nuances that are different between the two (rolling dice in the forum, for example) but I imagine I'd pick it up soon enough.
When I play DnD I have a soft spot for Dwarven characters, mainly because I can do the voice pretty darn well if I don't say so myself. That's not really a factor here, but I think it merits a mention all the same, cuz' Dwarves are awesome. In general though, I like to play a wide variety of characters; from the cooky eccentrics to the grizzled veterans, I like to try a bunch of different things. I do shy away from playing female characters, because I feel my portrayal would feel either satirical or simply fall flat as a cringe-worthy cliche. While this obviously isn't as big of an issue with the PBP format, I think the point still stands.
While we're on the topic of RP gripes, I find myself with an inherent aversion to 'Edgy Anime MC' characters. You know the types: orphaned at a young age, cloaked loner in the corner cuz' no one understands them, doesn't talk much, yada yada. While I'm sure it could be done well, I have yet to see it done so, and it typically leads to a lot of face-palm moments - at least in my experience.
On a slightly more personal and ironically timed note, I do love me some anime. Books, cartoons, comics, manga, anime, films, whatever - I just like stories. I recommend Brandon Sanderson if you want some top-tier fantasy novels, by the way.
Now. Pokemon. My first game was Pokemon Gold, and I got it when I was 6-years old. I suppose my first exposure was technically with the anime, but I digress. Obviously, I love pokemon - I wouldn't be writing this if I didn't. My favorite pokemon is Teddiursa, because he's adorable and Ursaring is a beast.
As for what I want from this site, I'll be keeping an eye open for a good ol' fashioned gym crawl. Nothing too out there gimmick wise, I'm keen to get the O.G experience, at least for my first game.
I think that should just about cover most of the important stuff. Anyway, hope to get to know some of you in game soon!
