Hello, all. I'm stepping in to pilot Ash in the wake if his player's absence. It's good to meet you. I've never played PTA before, but I've played a lot of PTU. I'll be learning by doing for a bit here, I suppose, so pleas excuse any mistakes I might make and please feel free to offer any constructive criticism. I'm currently looking at the rules for posting so that I submit character speech and actions in the specific format that the GM has requested. Thank you for having me.

Wait, where did Squirtle go? He didn't seem to be fainted yet.

I apologize. Squirtle was fainted, but I forgot to note that. I read your post noting your future plans, and so I guess I went all the way toward following said plans before posting what happened. I was possibly half-asleep at the time. Sorry; I should mention I've started a new job this week, and don't have as much time as I used to.

Oh, I understand. Yeah, Squirtle didn't seem like he had much time left, so you just jumped over the part where he got knocked out and Pikachu took his place. Got it.

A very big 'thank you' to my fellow players, who patiently waited for Ash's battle to play out.

I am bumping this to explain that DJW PMed me to say he quit. Disappointing, but he's the first person to have extended the courtesy of saying anything at all, which I commend. Besides, his reasoning was that this game was moving too slowly, and he's right.
I am now unsure of where to go with this or whether to continue. I started this campaign to test out revisions that I and others had made, and I think I did collect some data. However, looking back on it, the game was also more than a little of a vanity project for me, which became a weakness. I additionally used it to put together my vision of an ideal alternate path for the Pokemon anime to take, and its characters develop.
This, on top of me having to develop maps specifically based on real regions--which ruled out the normal graphics of Pokemon games, at least for towns--became a problem both in the past, when I had a harder time recruiting players than I would if I'd let them make their own characters, and later--in fact, it essentially remains the problem to this game.
Most PTA campaigns can survive the departure of a player. His or her character usually has to be written out somehow, but the game can go on. A game based on the anime, and in particular, my view of how the anime should have gone, needs Ash, Misty and Brock to stay together as a trio. This meant that everyone was a victim when just one player went silent or quit; things all halted.
I see no end in site for that sort of scenario. This game began as an experiment in what works or what doesn't work, and it did, in fact, reveal something of what doesn't work. Maybe things would have been different if I had been using a more popular system, characters, etc, but as of right now it is looking like a failed experiment. I welcome input from anyone who still cares as to whether we should continue this...
