The group of four Trainers, having met each other just outside of Star Top Village following a harrowing encounter with a large man and his Staryu, proceeded onward towards New Eve Village, where Professor Sycamore suggested they start. With a Gym and a Contest Hall immediately available, there was certainly plenty to do in the otherwise small spooky village. While not much happened on the trip to the halfway point that is Mt. Finale, it was when traveling through Mt. Finale that the group stumbled across an event in progress.
There was two Trainers, a girl with a black and blue baseball cap, a white hoodie, and a blue and black skirt. Her socks were white, and her boots, black. Her blonde hair was swaying as she shook her head, her blue eyes looking quite afraid. At her side was a Bunnelby. The other Trainer was a boy in a maroon sweater vest, who wore a blue jacket over it. He had a black baseball cap with a team logo on it, and blue jeans that looked somewhat worn, but were still in good shape. His black sneakers dug into the ground as he grew incensed, and he clenched his right fist, his left hand tightening on a baseball bat. His short blond hair looked messy and wavy, but was stylish nonetheless, and complimented his own blue eyes that were covered by glasses. He had a Voltorb, which looked even angrier than he did, at his side.
Opposed to the two of them was a young woman dressed in a charcoal colored long sleeved coat that was worn over a dark gray shirt. Black pants and black boots rounded out the simple and efficient outfit. On her back was a gray backpack that looked quite heavy. Blonde hair was tipped at the ends with blue highlights, and she had eyes that looked a cross between green and blue. She also bore a black choker, and an apathetic gaze. Her paler skin eerily contrasted with the inside natural lighting with the route that traveled through the mountain, and though she wasn't completely pale, she was definitely someone raised in colder areas.
At the woman's side was a Malamar that lightly swayed side-to-side as it stood. It had a malicious smirk, and was hovering off the ground at the moment. Its eyes glowed yellow in the dark, and its body lights were fully lit, solid and bright yellow lights. The woman's gaze was expressionless, and currently putting the rocks in the area to shame for emotionless demeanor. It was a startling contrast to the emotive Malamar.
The male Trainer yelled after an intense standoff with the woman. "I don't know who you are, you stranger! But I won't tolerate threats, even if you look my age! Go on! Shoo! My sister and I don't want anything to do with you!" His voice was somehow lacking solid confidence, though the mysterious woman showed no active response. The girl in the baseball cap seemingly tried to get her brother to back down. "D-Darell! It's best if we don't bother them too much! We can't fight a Malamar on our own! We'd need some more Trainers or Pokemon to help us. If we could get three or so more, I think we can take her on even footing. My Power Radar is telling me that estimation!" Her fearful comment prompted an anger to cross his face. "No... She won't leave us be, I can tell just from looking at her. We're going to have to fight her off! There aren't other allies around here. We'll be on our own!"
The Malamar seemed very excited, as if anticipating a battle it terribly wanted to participate in, several small rocks on the floor surrounding the Malamar lifted into the air, levitating beside it.

Mathis hummed a small tune as he walked down the road, enjoying the nice breeze as it glided across his face. His hat rustled a bit, but a certain Aipom was keeping it in place. The trip to Mt. Finale was pleasant, but uneventful as a whole. Thinking about the previous encounter with the man called Rekt, he began to reach for a knapsack that was strapped to his lower back. The knapsack was dull-black, but with a white circle near the flap. On the circle itself was the shape of a red cross, showing it was his medic kit. After a bit of finagling, he managed to pull out a piece of paper. The paper itself had a checklist on it. "We should do a quick inventory check before we get inside the mountain." Mathis said, tilting his head upwards a bit. The monkey gave a small cry before climbing down his back. Mathis moved a little slower as he adjusted himself due to the weight shift. Once the Aipom was secure, he began to open the knapsack and began to rummage around. Since they haven't perfected the check, Mathis would keep it short and simple. "Alright... Potions" "Pom~" "Purple Bottles" "Pom." "Yellow Bottles" "Pompom!" "Red Bottles" "Aipom" "Emergency Kit, more than half full" "Aipompom~" "Alright, we're good till we hit the Village. Thanks Aipom~" He said, his voice getting chipper as he handled the list back to Aipom. The Pokemon merely shoved the list into the knapsack before climbing right up his back. With his paws on Mathis's head and his feet on his shoulders, the Monkey simply leaned back and enjoyed the nice breeze. When they began to travel through the mountain, Mathis took a moment to enjoy the scenery. It was his first time going through a mountain without his parents. He had a small regret that he didn't bring a camera, it would have been nice to take some pictures and send them back home to everyone. Oh well, maybe he could do that in the future. For now, it was likely a good idea to keep focus on what was ahead. A few moments later, he soon saw a group of trainers. It looked like two of them were having a small problem with the pale-skinned woman. Taking a moment, he began to looked all around them. First the surroundings, than the trainers. His eyes quickly began to scan their equipment, he didn't want to be caught off-guard after what happened with Rekt. Once he got a good look, he simply walked up to the two trainers who were standing away from the woman. His eyes briefly met the Malamar's, and a small shiver went down his spine. Maybe it was just the way it was all lit up, or maybe it was just the way its eyes looked. "Hi, I'm Mathis~" He said, introducing himself to the three with a small smile on his face.. Even though he got a bad vibe from the Malamar, he figured the woman who owned him was more collective and calm than him. Aipom simply waved at the group, sporting his cheeky smile. He soon stopped next to the girl, before turning his body towards the brother and sister. "Is something the matter here. You seem distressed?" He asked the two before turning his attention to the woman with the Malamar. Mathis rolled a 14 for his Perception, and a 19 on his Charm.

It had been such good luck running into the other three just as he was setting off. He'd probably need three allies for taking on the league, and Will at least looked like she might be able ot keep up with him. Running into this other trio of trainers though was a different story. He just catches the end of the girl talking, and his feet do the math before his brain does. He yells "They need our help, CHARGE!" and without waiting for any of his companions, he charges headlong for the Malamar, releasing Kali as he goes, who joins him in his assault. Ryden performs a charge action, and moves as far as he can towards the Malamar. He releases Kali with a free action through Quick Switch. If Ryden can reach Malamar this turn he uses Slam as a free action with smite AC 6xWpID8aAd20, 2d8+22 Normal Physical damage Kali has initiative 30 this round thanks to Juggler, so should be able to go immediately after him, if it can reach the Malamar it will use poison sting(Range 6) AC 2 d20, 1d8+19 Poison Physical damage d20·2d8+22·d20·1d8+19

Barberry had been strolling along, just enjoying the scenery and the presence of his new friends. Sure, he hadn't known them that long, but he was sure they were going to get along famously! As such, he'd simply been walking with them while Jinjo rode on his back, as he frequently did.
He shakes his head, drawn out of his thoughts by the situation with the trainers and the Malamar. He follows Mathis and goes to investigate. "Yes, indeed," he says in response to Mathis's statement, "But I'm sure there's no need for unpleasantness. Tell me, what seems to tbe the proble-" He's cut off as Ryden rushes past him to attack.
He watches said attack in confusion. "Jinjo?" "Shrew?" "That just happened, didn't it?" "Sand Sandshrew." "Things are probably going to get... fast, aren't they?" "Shreeeew."

Mathis could see that the boy had three Poke Balls total, one of which likely belonged to the Voltorb. The girl had two Poke Balls, one of which likely was the Bunnelby's. The woman across from the two Trainers had two basic Poke Balls and one Luxury Ball. The Malamar probably belonged to one of them.
The Malamar turned it's gaze towards Mathis after the Trainer greeted in a friendly manner. "Well, well! Finally, a pleasant Human! It seems that there are some of them who do understand proper procedure in my presence. It is a pleasure to meet you, Mathis." Somehow, the Malamar's voice had a real quality to it that did not scream "good guy". Furthermore, it was talking proper language! The woman standing beside the Malamar smiled slightly, breaking the cold expression she had had until that point. She spoke one word. "Viper." Was it her name? Or an alias? There was no real hint given from her corner, and her face returned to the cold look it had.
The boy was next. "Hello Mathis, I'm Darell, and this is my sister, Davea. To answer your question, yes, something is the matter. We're trying to chase down some of those vile Team Chain members! They stole one of my sister's Pokemon, but then these two showed up, and they refuse to let us by!" His sister nodded to confirm before gasping as Ryden ran right by her in his rush to attack, before they even had a chance to address Barberry.
As Ryden attempted to Slam the Malamar, it put it's tentacles up to block the attack, quickly following this action with a swat from its right tentacle that mostly deflected the Poison Sting, though a small prick could be observed if one looked closely. The Malamar looked entirely unfazed, and seemed to apply little, if any, effort to block the attacks. "What spirit! Bravo! Unfortunately, attacking me like that is futile. I'll gladly give you a chance to apologize to your superior though. It's very much the right thing to do, no?"
The woman who called herself Viper reached for her Poke Balls, grabbing the basic ones. She seemed ready to battle. "Do not attack him. You are not worthy of his presence, and he will not hesitate to brush you aside." Her voice was cold and monotonous. In response, Darell readied his Baseball Bat. "Why can't we attack him? You're obviously challenging us to a battle. If we need to beat you and your Pokemon before you'll let us through, we'll do that!"
It seemed a fight would likely be breaking out soon.

Ryden was surprised. Usually his slams only felt like that when he ran into an actual stone wall. It actually took him a moment to compose himself and another moment to remember how to talk to things. "Well umm yeah sorry this just looked all serious and..." he rubbed the back of his head sheepishly, and then held his hand out to tell Kali to stay back. Finally the situation clicked, these two were blocking the way to retrieve a stolen Pokémon. His face turned serious again, and he yelled point blank into Malamar's 'face'. "What are you doing blocking these two from retrieving her stolen Pokémon! Get out of the way." Initial charm for his apology CbXmdsza2d6 Command as he orders these two out of the way 3d6 I would understand if either or both of these rolls were moot from each other or his actions in general 2d6·3d6

The Malamar talked. He actually talked, and Mathis actually understood him. For a moment, He was unsure about how to feel about this. On one hand, he didn't expect the Malamar to be this cordial, which was an interesting and pleasant experience. On the other hand... there was something about his voice that made Mathis a little weary. His encounter with Rekt made him learn to trust that feeling in his neck, to be cautious whenever it occurred. Maybe it was for the best he developed that feeling early on... His eyes turned to the woman as she said her name. Mathis thought she had a rather nice smile, it was a bit of a shame she didn't show it till now. Aipom on the other hand still kept the same cheeky smile, but his paws were tightly planted on his head. The monkey was a little unnerved, but he didn't want to show it. His concentration broke when the brother introduced himself and his Sister, Davea. From what he gathered, some people from Team Chain stole their Pokemon, and were in pursuit when Viper and Malamar stopped them. That would explain why the tension was a bit high. He had a gut feeling about the pair, but maybe they could let the duo pass. It was then that Ryden had just ran right passed them, yelling out a "CHARGE!" Mathis, with a look of befuddle on his face merely watched as his companion tried to make an impact. His pupils went wide as the Malamar effortless parried both attacks in quick succession, almost without a scratch. No wonder this Malamar looked like it wanted to fight, if it could just take Ryden's hit like that... Still, maybe it would be best if they could let them passed, Mathis was worried for Darell and Davea. He was now worried for Ryden as well, especially as he was now yelling in the Malamar's face. He didn't want to get into a fight, but at this point it looked like it was going to happen regardless of what he said. Still, he needed to try. "Uh, Mr. Malamar, Sir." He began, taking a step forward before coughing softly into his hand. "I apologize for my friend, he just wants to see the stolen Pokemon reunited with them. Could you please let us pass?" He asked, making eye contract with the Malamar. Every nerve in his neck was telling him to look away, but he had to try. Mathis rolled a 14 on Charming their way through.

i.imgur.com/QY9LEmx.png Will had slowed behind the rest of the party slightly, a familiar, but still annoying ache creeping into her knee after the trouble with that gorilla man and his team of Staryu. Of course, kicking his butt so hard that he dropped the stolen supplies and fled with his tail between his legs felt great. That and the trainers that set off from Star Top with her all seemed like a pretty decent bunch. Mathis and Barberry looked pretty soft, but maybe she'll be able to fix that if they stick together for longer than just the first gym. Bridget is also putting in some great work play-training as the group moves, keeping up on her own and spinning cartwheels on her small paws every so often, tail ready to catch herself if she stumbles too much. It's just her luck that she stops and pulls her ankle back up in a stretch when the situation comes into view a little further down the route. Ryden's already running full-tilt towards the Malamar and something tells her it's not the best idea to pull 'surprise attacks' on the Dark/Psychic type based on looks alone. "That guy...C'mon Bridge. Let's go and pull his butt outta the fire.""Ai!"Jogging into the mess, Will comes to stop just ahead of Barberry, eyes flicking between both parties. She's mainly surprised that the redhead's charge into the squid-like Pokemon is met with such little effort, brushing Ryden and his stalwart Beedrill's stingers aside like they were nothing. As much as she likes a challenge, there are times when people are just in another league. They're definitely going to need more practice before they can tackle this Malamar in a fight. "As much of a blockhead as he seems right now, our friend has a point. Is there any particular reason you're stopping these two from chasing down the thieves? We already took care of one Team Chain's thugs earlier, so adding another to the count probably wouldn't hurt.", she calls out to Viper and her Pokemon, already planting herself on the side of the nervous looking kids they stumbled into. A short moment later, a sheepish look crosses onto her face despite the tension in the air, introducing herself casually to the strangers with a short wave. "Oh, my name's Will, by the way."
Will rolled 14 on Intuition to get better handle on Malamar and Viper's motivations.

As Ryden returned to the Malamar to yell at it face-to-face, it laughed audibly, as if mocking his attempt to demonstrate any authority. "My word. Mathis, you should teach your friend some manners. Unfortunately though, we won't budge."
Viper moved to stand between the rash Trainer and the squid-like creature, though she seemed a bit hesitant about doing so. "Those two have something we require. We will not let them by until it is given to us." Viper's voice was cold, and she seemed distant, emotionless. There was no feeling or personality in her voice.
The Malamar continued. "Davea, I normally don't address inferiors by their names, but I'm being polite. Please, do hand over the Type Diamond you are bearing," it stated as it leered at the scared girl. "I even used the magic word. Let's not be unreasonable."
Viper herself then narrowed her eyes as Mathis approached the Malamar to apologize. The Malamar responded with equal politeness. "We'll let them pass once they hand over the Type Diamond. It's no use hiding it, since I can feel its energy." It then turned to address Will. "Will? Humans have the strangest naming conventions. You look like a woman, yet bear such a name. I pity for you. I really do. Unfortunately, I care not about the Team Chain members. They're insignificant pests I will swat later. So we won't budge, not until a Type Diamond is in our grasp."

"Well, that is a problem." Says Barberry, apparently unperturbed by the Malamar's speech and genuinely concerned with its desires, despite its demeanour. "I must confess, I'm not entirely sure what a "type diamond" is, but..." He trails off, thinking for a moment, before he realizes he hasn't introduced himself.
"Oh, I do apologize!. Barberry! Barberry Buckthorn!" He says, cheerfully. He instinctively reaches forward to shake hands, before realizing that a) he doesn't whom to shake hands with, b) neither party is in the mood for such pleasantries and c) Malamar doesn't have any hands. He withdraws his hand, but doesn't lose any momentum.
"Anyway, I'm sure we can work something out. I take it you have issues with this... request?" He says to Darell and Davea. It's not clear whether he's using the word "request" ironically or not.

i.imgur.com/QY9LEmx.png Will narrows her eyes a bit at the Malamar as it finally turns to address her, shifting her weight onto her stronger leg while Barberry steps in. If it weren't for the fact this drone and her squid-like Pokemon were strong enough to shrug off Ryden's bull rush, there's little doubt a fight would've already broken out. "I'm pretty happy with my name, so you can keep your pity to yourself."Whatever the heck a type diamond is exactly, it sounds like it's pretty valuable judging by the name alone. And the facts as she sees it are it belongs to these two kids. At least Viper and the Malamar don't seem to be part of Team Chain. They're more just selfish. Taking a deep breath, the tracksuit-clad girl holds her hands up in a 'back it up a second' gesture. "Look, I don't know why you want their diamond thing so bad either, but did you at least offer to buy it or trade for something before you followed up one robbery with another? Like Barberry said, we can probably work something out, but the longer we wait, the more time it gives to let Team Chain get away." Tapping her foot anxiously against the ground, she turns a questioning glance at Darell and Davea, as though asking if that makes things any better. But most of all the former soccer star is growing increasingly tempted to bolt off and go chasing after the Pokenapper on her own. Another two or three minutes without any progress here and she'll probably do just that anyway. As her trainer talks, Bridget waves her tail through the grass as she waits for the order to jump forward, the Aipom's naturally cheeky grin still fixed across her face. "Aipom!", she chirps after Will's made her point, a simple echo of agreement.

Ryden gives up the yelling. Taking a step back. He realised how little impact he had on these and it left him feeling less than useful. He tries the talking thing instead, though gruffly. "Ryden. So why do you need this type gem thing?" He addresses all this toward the Malamar.

Mathis remained silent when the Malamar told him about Ryden's attitude, but that was Ryden for ya. His eyes shifted back to the Malamar once he mentioned the word 'Type Diamond'. He had seen that name pop up a few times during his history phase, but he didn't know much about them besides the name. They must be very valuable, judging by the way that Viper and Malamar were acting. He took a few steps back, and began to listen to his teammates. Barberry seemed ready to comply, but was double checking with Darell and Davea. Will looked almost ready to just run through them, and Ryden was asking a question he felt would not get answered, at least fully.
Mathis wanted to avoid a fight, but he was almost unsure of himself at this point. As Barberry began to talk to the brother and sister, Mathis took a few moment to take in his surroundings. How did they feel about all this, as well as anything he missed from his first examination of the group.

The Malamar seemed unfazed at Barberry extending a hand, but appropriately did not react beyond pleasantries. "A pleasure, Barberry, for you too seem to know your place. As you grace me with your name, I'll grace you with mine. I am Ziabolo. A bit tricky to pronounce for lessers, but they survive...mostly. Hmmhmmhmmhmm."
Darell looked ready to charge the Malamar, disregarding Barberry's question. Davea however nodded to him. "Yes... We don't even know what it's talking about! We don't have a Type Diamond..."
The Malamar chuckled at that. "Oh, delightful. Feigning ignorance. But why would I have expect more of common rabble? Putting that aside, Will, was it? I don't bother with buying or trading of such things. There is a time and place for such matters, but that time and place isn't now and here. She claims they don't have it, yet her necklace stands out, no? As for your question, Ryden, that is something I cannot divulge right now." With a more maniacal laugh, the Malamar continued, and his comments on the necklace rang true as indeed, there was a large colored gem hanging from it. "Why not read some books, you illiterate whipping boy? There is plenty of information about the Diamonds in old textbooks. Perhaps it's too much for your admittedly small mind to comprehend? Hmmhmm. For Will's sake, we can work out a deal, sure. I'll make your lousy lot a deal you can't refuse..."
The Malamar slide backwards, hovering over the ground before floating into the air. "In fact! It'll be generous! Two choices! Oh, I am charitable beyond all! Your choices are these!" The Malamar hovered down next to Viper's left side before continuing, running his right tentacle around her waist in crude taunting fashion. The act did manage to get Viper to close her eyes, an unusual break in her so far stoic demeanor. "Battle my subordinates, Viper, Nazar, and Goro! Defeat them, and we'll let you through with no further quarrel." The Malamar then hovered away from Viper, who opened her eyes again, resuming her neutral gaze. "Or, battle me. If you survive such a feat, we'll let you through with no further quarrel."
The Malamar chuckled again. "I'm being plenty generous here, and you outnumber us heavily so in either case. I have no doubt in my mind that your little group of special needs can pull it out of the hat! Haha! Hahahahaha! So, what will it be? Take your time to decide..."
Mathis can see that Darell was about ready to blow his top and issue a beatdown of legendary status with the baseball bat, while Davea seemed afraid of the Malamar in particular, and was unnerved by its actions.

Ryden backs off to beside the others, no longer giving any benefit of the doubt to Ziabolo. Still, the offer is reasonably generous, they probably can take the other three. "Alright we'll take on your subordinates then!" Kali was already taking position in front of him, literally buzzing with anticipation to be unleashed.

At this point, it begins to occur to Barberry that Ziabolo's intentions may not be entirely virtuous. Still, he had issued a valid challenge, and while it probably wouldn't be as simple as he was making it out to be, Barberry sees no reason not to take the Malamar at his word.
"Well, that seems... equitable enough." Barberry says, before turning to the Sandshrew peeking over his shoulder. "Do you fancy it, Jinjo?"
Jinjo nods and smiles. "Shrew." He says before leaping in front of his Trainer. "Sandshrew."

i.imgur.com/QY9LEmx.png Fighting the urge to outright roll her eyes at the smarmy Pokemon's outright refusal of a proper dealing, Will starts bouncing on the balls of her feet, the anticipation building up. Surely time has to be running out for these kids to reclaim their lost Pokemon. Finally, the issued challenges have the training Pokleympiate rearing to go. Competition is where she thrives, after all. "Alright, perfect! The faster we burn through your challenge the better. You guys make sure you're ready too.", Will calls out with a pump of her arm, focusing on the brother and sister they're helping at that last part. Ryden's already made the same choice she would have too. As much as she'd like to rub their win in Ziabolo's thieving beak, having some energy left to track down Team Chain after seems important. Bridget scurries up next to her trainer's feet at the same time, palm-like tail swaying above her crouched head as she readies for another battle.

Mathis reeled back slightly when the Malamar, Ziabolo began to insult Ryden, a small look of annoyance appeared on his face. Looks like that chill he felt earlier was right, as he was getting more and more of a 'true' look. It wasn't until that the Pokémon began to move his tentacle around Viper that he found himself gripping his kit with a startling strength. His mind flashed back to the time with Rekt, and how he mentioned about taking Will with him. However, there was something... off about the way he did it. Taking a deep breath, he began to realize that he was doing that on purpose, he wanted a reaction out of them. Taking a quick look, it seemed Barberry and Will were thinking the same thing. When the others began to ready themselves, he quickly unbuckled the strap of his medical kit, and swung it to his front. Crouching down slightly, he began to sway slowly from the left to the right, in a rhythmic fashion.
"Guess we have to fight after all... Alright you silly monkey, time to help everyone.~" He said with a smile. Aipom let out a small cry before hopping off of his hat. With a small mid-air roll, he landed on the ground... but the landing wasn't perfect, as he found himself on all fours. Luckily he seemed fine, as he quickly got up and held out his tail-hand to the ground, ready to support them.

With a small smile, Viper rebuked the Malamar. "I can take them on my own. They are slow and weak. I will fight them without the aid of the others." She assumed a fighting stance at this point. "I also have my secret technique. I have shown you it before, Ziabolo. They will not stand a chance."
Her smile faded, and the Malamar spoke again. "Oh, I do remember that one. A neat little trick. If they can handle it, I'd be surprised. You have permission to go all out. Do what you do best."
Viper's eyes narrowed their focus onto Will. "Will. You are the one Rekt spoke of. He had trouble with you... He is weaker than me, so you will not be an issue this time. If you guys can hit me, I'll be surprised.

Ryden assumes his own stance, energy collected like a spring. "Good. If it's us on you then I get to fight too." This time his hits will matter.
