"Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyy", Leslie utters... well, for anyone else it'd be apathetically, but from her it's probably as enthusiastic as she's been all day. Maybe. It's probably best not to think about it too hard.
Mmmmeeeerrrrrooww, the Espurr mimics. Over the course of the walk the small floof had scampered about on Leslie's body, but thankfully it finally settled into the labyrinth of locks and purred from inside that mess now and again.
"Lllllllleeeeeeeeee' gooooo", she decrees, staaaaring at the others. Leslie. Impatient. Amazing.

"Well, I hope that it's the wrong person, and that it wasn't your friend who jumped," the man seems to be taken aback at Soleil's attitude. "But all I know is that I didn't act soon enough... I might have been able to do something. I'm sorry."

"Can we hang him over the balcony and ask again?" Soleil asks turning to look at the group. "I mean, nobody believes this right?"

"Hey!" The man protests, "I'm telling the truth! Ask anyone else around here who saw it! Believe me... I wish I was lying."

Silas stops peering over the edge and joins the conversation. "He's telling the truth. We should let HQ know, have a team further down confirm." Silas's tone is direct and matter-of-fact, but he's fighting a growing sense of unease. Previous interaction made it clear that Requiem's supernatural mental powers showed no correlation with her normal mental powers, but he didn't expect something this foolish. Requiem had plenty of information and superior mobility. Escaping shouldn't have been difficult for her. Escaping without using her powers would mean she has allies, and that's not something Silas wants to deal with right now.

"Shush for a minute, talking to them." Soleil says with a friendly smile at the guy (that really didn't match the conversation) as she turns back to listen to Silas. "Well I mean, you might think he is, but that doesn't mean he is. It seems very unlikely and just trusting people isn't going to make things work out." Soleil said before sighing and shrugging, "But I guess it's not like the first time you guys just trust whatever people tell you." She walked away from the guy. "Well, whatever, doesn't matter either way if she's alive or dead since its not like we can just fly down the shaft."
Soleil then skipped over to the edge and looked down. "I don't buy it though." She said as she gazed down the pit. A part of her was very curious and she wanted to prove she was right. But at the same time it would take forever to get back, she'd have to explain absence, and that was assuming no danger. All just to confirm if some person had died earlier than they would have. People died eventually regardless.
As she gazed down the shaft she rested her chin on her hands and thought about what if it was true and Requiem had died. Should she feel bad? She started to try and think about how she should feel, but she didn't really know. Dwelling on death wasn't her style, so she decided to do what she did when she fired her gun. She gave a final parting thought of a dead Requiem and pushed aside any concerns as she instead pictured the woman with a cross-hair over her. Smile, you're dead. She thought as the mental image pulled a trigger.
Soleil then pushed back away from the railing and turned back to the group. She clapped her hands together and gave a big smile, "Well then! Let's go back! Mission success! And we maybe completely dealt with the source too! So that's like extra points for dealing with for good!" It was probably pretty strange to see the girl that had gotten along the best with Requiem seem fairly unphased.

Leaving behind the now-uneasy man, you all make your way back up to the Technician Headquarters. When you arrive, you're directed into a room within the facility, with a mention that Cain would be there shortly.
The room is fairly plain, with only a shut off display screen behind a table that has several chairs around it... but at least you won't be standing for however long this takes. True to the word of the person directing you here, after settling in, Captain Vincent Cain walks in. He sits down, and steeples his fingers, before starting. "Alright. I understand that it has been a long day, and a lot has happened, so I'm hoping to keep this short. We have a rough idea of what happened, thanks to reports from your P*DA" "I have a name you know." "but there's a fair bit that would benefit from clarification. So, I'd like each of you to tell me, as best you can, what happened on this mission."

Thoron was rather curious how comprehensive Omega's reports had been. He expected, actually, that they had all the information they needed from the AI, and their own accounts were going to be used to gauge their honesty and Peter's, rather than supplement the ones they had. Not that that was a problem, it could even be considered a test of sorts.
Briefly going over the events of the mission, Thoron explains, "Very well, Captain. Starting outside the Casino Chrysalis, we decided it was best to separate and look for suspects. To that end, Silas and I were able to find a suspect willing to sell the identity of his dealer. At the same time, Soleil not only found said dealer, but lured him out to his home, away from prying eyes. We pursued her there, and thanks to clues she had left, discovered his residence." Pausing to get the next scene straight, he continues, "We suspect Technician Jensen also unlocked the door for her team, as there were no difficulties in entering, catching the dealer, 'Chris', off-guard. From there, Soleil took the opportunity to investigate deeper in his home while the three of us extracted information from Chris. Unfortunately, said dealer is now abroad, looking for "The Poppy District", but he proved able to lead us to the next target, the Supplier. Technician Kincaid was instrumental in, coercing Chris. Through a decoy consisting of Soleil, and intimidation from Leslie as well as further persuasion from Silas and I, he decided that remaining in the employ of Requiem was too dangerous, and an exchange was made. Following this, we proceeded to the Scintilla district."
Considering the rapid-fire nature of what came next, Thoron wanted to make sure his facts were straight before reporting, and so paused again. Then, he said, "We were granted an audience with Requiem, Soleil leading the negotiations at the time, when it was discovered that she had a Pokemon under her control. We were unable to identify it at the time, but it appeared to have prominent Psionic abilities including Telepathy and Telekinesis, if its behaviour was accurate. It bears mentioning that Technician Floros reacted poorly to both Requiem and 'Angel' possessing these abilities, but he was successful in limiting this to a single outburst at the onset. Actual impact appeared minimal, and he maintained an acceptable performance from then on. Eventually, in no small part due to Soleil's negotiations, the supplier led us to her home and place of manufacturing, to, ahem, 'convince us of her operation's legitimacy'. Yes, as an illegal operation... Needless to say, we consented to a tour."
Nearly finished, Thoron concluded, "While I do not understand the technical details, her Prescient Powder appeared to be created by Psionically crushing Magikarp - of which she had several hundred in a bunker under her house - and containing the resultant energy in a suitable vessel. A brief debate ensued, wherein it... appears we angered Requiem, as she summarily concluded negotiations and attempted to eliminate us. To that end, she employed some ability to dominate Technician Jensen's mind temporarily, and demonstrated a teleportation ability when Silas attempted to have his Pokemon incapacitate her. She also released a curious, floating humanoid Pokemon, and caused a chain reaction that killed all the Magikarp save one... fusing them into a Gyarados. Alarmingly, she, or at least Angel, appeared to maintain a high degree of control over the creature. Requiem made a hasty escape, and although hampered by a temporarily-compromised Soleil, we were able to dispatch and contain the two Pokemon. Unfortunately, Angel was destroyed in the ensuing fight, after Requiem fled by switching places, and he sealed the door behind her. We later learned that, perhaps due to the loss of her partner, business and home, Requiem took her life by plunging down The Shaft. Or at least, a firsthand testimony from a nearby civilian reported as such. I recommend dispatching a Technician to investigate."

Soleil beamed when Thoron started feeling pretty good about the dealer thing. The Requiem parts praising her also helped. She could show she was a great technician and not have to fear being useless.
However, at the comment about dominating her mind and compromising, Soleil frowned. Just because she had felt talking thing out was a good idea didn't mean she was some psychic puppet.
When he finished Soleil raised her hand. "Me next!" She said. "First off, the casino stuff is pretty spot on. I looked around some tables, got some attention, felt the guy looked shifty, and by getting attention he came over to offer to sell me stuff. I made sure others saw me and went with him to get privacy for interrogation and to maybe find the source. As they said I unlocked the door and was working on learning about the drug and source. The others barged in and with them taking over I went searching for the source. They decided to pretend to capture me and somehow got info from the guy which they just trusted without any assurance. Luckily their trust didn't backfire though he got to run off to do whatever scummy things creepy guys who hit on cute girls do." Soleil said slightly annoyed despite her smile.
"So we went and met the lady who was supposed to supply it. Her name was Requiem and she was really pretty and as such some of the guys were stammering drool boys. She implied she knew we were technicians and stammering drool boys confirmed. However, I got her to offer to show us the production and off we went! We arrived at her place and she offered food but she didn't have cookies so we declined and she showed us her production room. She turned fishies into the vialy drug stuff. Then drooling faces got angry and cranky and so she got defensive. And then threats were issued by her and rather than deescalate the situation like I was trying so that we could get more information pokemon were released and attacks were thrown. In an attempt to break up the fight so that we could learn more about the method and if she was the only supplier I attempted to disarm them of their pokemon so that we could detain Requiem peacefully and learn more." Soleil stated, "She didn't turn me into a puppet or anything. I was not compromised or anything." She added again. "In fact when she tried to run I tried to stop her. When she fled and the scary blue snake attacked I also attempted to open the door and follow but sadly was unable." She stated. "Oh! And 'we' is a bit of a stress. I caught the blue snake." She said putting the pokeball on the table. "But yeah we didn't catch the pink kitty. And then she ran off and disappeared near the shaft. Some old guy said she jumped but he was probably lying. The local area seemed to like her so he probably was covering for her. Sadly the group felt trusting people was ideal so no interrogation occured." Soleil shrugged.
"Overall mission a success. If she is a splatty bloodstain then awesome dealer dead. If she isn't a splatty bloodstain then she is at the very least forced to start over. Shame we couldn't find out if others could do it too, but that's what happens when attacking triumphs over attempts to get information. "
Soleil paused for a minute, "Oh this death isn't my fault by the way. Just figured I would mention cause of the briefing. Maybe next time."

As his teammates give their version of events, Silas grows displeased. Thoron's report was thoroughly whitewashed, making the team look more competent and organized than it was. Such an attitude was dangerous. Refusing to acknowledge any shortcomings makes the story sound scripted and fake, as well as removing the possiblity of fixing those mistakes. Soleil's version of events was.. worse. She seemed determined to show Silas in the worst possible light. She even had the gall to make a big deal out of 'trusting people' when she trusted both Chris and Requiem for no reason.
Silas closes his eyes, exhales, then opens them, looking at Cain with a blank expression. The man was probably smart enough to see through Thoron and Soleil's bluster, so Silas tries to give an accurate rendition of events.
"When we arrived at the casino, we split into three groups: Soleil, Leslie, and Thoron and myself. The two of us convinced a drug-user that a medical emergency could result from using the drug. We used his fear and a bit of money to get him to tell us about the dealer. He showed no signs of lying, so we met up with Leslie and started to look for him. We saw Soleil talking to a man with the dealer's description, so we followed the two to the dealer's house. Since we had no way to know if she had been led into an ambush, we entered. Soleil went to investigate the rest of the place, we did the fake-capture thing, then got information about the supplier with threats and bribery."
At this point in the story, Silas pauses. He needs to decide how much to reveal about his anti-psychic abilities. While he'd like to hide as much as possible from the government, some of his actions just don't make sense without that information. He had notices a mind reading attempt during the initial phases, so they probably knew something about his abilities. It would make sense to use a telepathic Pokemon to scan incoming recruits, and he had manage to avoid making a scene at the time. Silas rubs his eyes, clears his throat, and continues.
"This next bit requires a bit of background. I've run into Psychics in the past, so I know when they try to read me and see leftovers of their power. Right after we introduced ourselves to Requiem, she tried to read all of our minds. I kept her out, but the power she displayed later makes me think she read everyone else. I reacted poorly. Despite this, Requiem brought us to her home to convince us of the legitimacy of her business."
The emotions of a few hours ago are returning to Silas as he continues his story. A tinge of anger can be heard on the occasional word.
"What she showed us was unconvincing, her arguments were foolish, and I told her so. She offered us a chance to go free, if I would allow the memories of the place to be removed. As she gave this offer, I saw psychic energy swirling around Soleil and Leslie. That much energy around someone's head is an attack, either to damage or to infiltrate. I released my Pokemon in an attempt to take her out before a fight really started. She teleported away, and the fight started. It was rough for a little bit, as the Trapinch and the Gyarados took out Thoron's and my Pokemon pretty quickly. Requiem escaped in the confusion. When the Luxio tracked her scent, we found a bystander who said he saw her jump down the shaft. I expect she escaped somehow, but it's still worth a look."

It's good that her partners gave their renditions first, because it took Leslie that long to get into the chair properly. She came close, when they entered the room. Kneeling in front of the seat with her head and arms resting on it was the best she could manage. It made her pleased that no one bothered waiting either, cause she wanted this done more than anyone. She probably would of been done faster if she wasn't fooling around with the databracer.
Listening to the three differing renditions made her chuckle on the inside. She still had work, but first came sloth.
"Sstuuuuuuuuffffffff. We diiid stuff. We waaaaallllllked. I saaaat in the casinooo until I got borrred, and then sat agaaainn waiting for the guyyyyss. Leslie directs a No Care Stare™ at Cain as she lounges farther and farther into her seat.

Cain listens intently and silently, only looking briefly away at the few times that his datatablet beeps, or when he types something after a point that's made.
"I see," he says, nodding, when everyone is finished. "I can say that you certainly accomplished more than we anticipated, sending a junior team on the mission. However," he lingers on the word, "there are some things that I would like to just... talk about. First of which being your tone in these debriefings. Jensen, I'd like more professional terms than things like 'drool-boys'. Kincaid, I'd like some more detail than 'stuff'. But, you can elaborate further after, as I'd like you to stay behind, and we can discuss how well the P*DA system worked for your team." He scans the Technicians in front of him before continuing. "Beyond that, though, I have questions. To confirm, you say several hundred Pokémon were killed instead of captured? And that this is a fundamental part of the powder production?" He pauses for a moment. "Now, did any of you get a sample of this powder, so that we can examine it? You all seemed to have some... differing reports, but none of them mentioned any acquisitions."
"And that leads into my next question, which I would like you all to consider, and answer, before we go any further. Are you an effective team?"
"Also, sit up, Kincaid."

Soleil thought for a minute, "What's the professional form of drool boys?" She asked curiously. She legitimately wasn't sure what word to replace it with.
"Well effective would mean we achieved the objective and you said we did more than expected." Soleil said. "So seems good." Soleil said with a nod.

Thinking back to varying points, Thoron answers, "Yes, the aquarium in Requiem's workshop was full of Magikarp when we arrived. And also had a levitation-capable Pokemon who may have been shepherding them all? Regardless, she indicated that it was, if not the majority of the production, an integral step. Nor were there any production mechanisms in her workshop. Only the Magikarp, and several empty vials."
Puzzled that she hadn't commented on what was, for all intents and purposes, the part of the mission she had the greatest information on, Thoron says, "When Soleil examined Chris' home, she appeared to have found a white powder that Chris confirmed as ruined product. However, the methods she used to extract it appeared, too extreme for the flimsy vials that stored them. We were unable to secure any Prescient Powder during the mission."
Having dealt with the easier topics, he reluctantly answers, "By your own admission, sir, we functioned beyond what was expected of four junior Technicians. So it stands to reason that we are effective. Unfortunately, expecting complete cooperation from a team even on their first mission seems... unfeasible." Less reluctantly, he offers, "Perhaps 'disoriented' or 'surprised' would suffice, Jensen?"

"Hmmm...disoriented... That seems less descriptive but if that's what you guys want." She nods. "Distracted not drool boys then."
"And uhhh yeah...I accidentally broke some vials. Lockpicking is a lot trickier than it works. It blew up all over me and it was white and icky. I mean there might be some in my shirt." She says. Sure she had tried to wash it off, but maybe they could find traces. "Want it?" She asked.

Cain's phrasing makes Silas think. Was he reprimanding them for letting hundreds of Pokemon be killed? Or did he think it took hundreds to make one vial? Either way, he feels the need to clarify the situation. "One Magikarp was used to create one vial of powder. Requiem took that vial when she left. She somehow fused the remaining fish to form a Gyarados when the fight started. We had no way to know that it was going to happen or how to stop it. However, the resulting Gyarados was captured."
The issue of the team's performance is a bit more troublesome. The team's coordination and ability to get along is abysmal. Still, he should probably phrase it more diplomatically. "Our success came from individual ability, not teamwork."

Seeming to think for a few moments, Cain at last nods, and says, "Alright. Thank you for your reports. We will not be requiring your shirt, Jensen, as we already have traces. It would just have been nice to have a full sample." Glancing once more at his datatablet, Cain continues with, "Everyone except Kincaid, you're dismissed. Please make sure you return all unused and obtained materials, including your Pokémon and any you caught. I do have to inform you that for the next several days, you will be confined to Headquarters. We just need to ascertain that this psychic did not introduce any abnormalities into your behaviour. Hopefully, everything should check out, and you can return to duty soon. Until then... think of this as a vacation of sorts." He gives a wan smile at the little bit of levity. "Alright, dismissed."After the three other Technician make their final comments, and leave, Cain fixes his gaze on Leslie, clasping his hands. "So... Technician Kincaid. You mentioned you wished to wait to make your report. You may do so, but, before you do that, I'd like your opinion on how well the P*DA system worked. I have... reports of my own that I need to make on that." ʗʭʳɞʬʭʲʧʡʣɞʲʦʟʲɞʟʲɞʲʦʣɞʪʟʱʲɞʱʣʬʲʣʬʡʣɪɞʁʟʧʬɞʱʣʣʫʱɞʲʭɞʱʲʟʰʲɞʲʭɞʥʧʴʣɞʟɞʲʳʰʬɞʠʟʡʩɞʲʭʵʟʰʢʱɞʲʦʣɞʠʪʟʬʩɞʢʧʱʮʪʟʷɞʱʡʰʣʣʬɞʠʣʦʧʬʢɞʦʧʫɪɞʠʣʤʭʰʣɞʱʲʭʮʮʧʬʥɞʟʬʢɞʡʭʬʲʧʬʳʧʬʥɞʲʭɞʪʭʭʩɞʟʲɞʷʭʳɬɞʗʭʳɞʩʬʭʵɞʤʰʭʫɞʣʶʮʣʰʧʣʬʡʣɞʲʦʟʲɞʟɞʠʪʟʬʩɞʱʡʰʣʣʬɞʫʣʟʬʱɞʟʠʱʭʪʳʲʣʪʷɞʬʭʲʦʧʬʥɞʧʬɞʰʣʪʟʲʧʭʬɞʲʭɞʭʲʦʣʰɞʲʣʡʦʬʭʪʭʥʷɬɬɬɞʱʭɞʧʲɥʱɞʯʳʧʲʣɞʮʭʱʱʧʠʪʣɞʲʦʟʲɞʲʦʣʰʣɥʱɞʱʭʫʣʭʬʣɞʣʪʱʣɞʪʧʱʲʣʬʧʬʥɞʧʬɞʭʬɞʷʭʳʰɞʡʭʬʴʣʰʱʟʲʧʭʬɬØ

Having moved from slowly lounging all the way out of her chair to sitting up in a hunched over pose, Leslie had waited impatiently for the solo report with a bored expression. So you know, her normal look, more or less. With the others' departure, she answer's Cain's query. Her speech is not as fast as when she shilled Chris out of his secrets, but it's definitely faster than her normal pace.
"Peter? He was fine. Almost too fine, heheh. Him being so fast with the info he could get us was proobably a factor in why we knocked this out in a day. We had all the pertinent data and directions, so why not keep going... besides my silent pleas for resting." She rolls her eyes. "It probably would of ended better had we checked in more, but honestly I think it's safe to assume we all thought he was reporting back to HQ with updates on our progress all day." Thinking for a moment she adds, "He was very helpful."
Doubling back on the prior question, she sits back and speaks more critically, her face stark. "As for whether we were an effective team, if the only variable for that was mission completion, we likely set the record for that today. If it's judged by how trusting and knowledgeable the team is about what each member does, needs, how they work best... there's a lot of room for improvement, believe you me. It's obvious Soleil doesn't trust or like the guys. Add in her impulsive and confrontational manner of dealing with adversity making it hard for all three to come to terms, well..." Leslie shrugs. "Eh, someone somewhere thought it could work. Or it's just shits and giggles watching us crash and burn." Looking away she finishes quieter. "If Requiem had made another Gyarados or several, had stayed to fight, or had another personal Pokemon in addition to the two she had, I really don't think we would of made it out."
Going into further detail she sounds like she's reading off a menu. "Requiem had unknown capabilities. Had full knowledge of the area. Stuck us in a corner in a featureless room. Willed, compulsed, or charmed Soleil into being a third side of the engagement. Trouble really started when she tried to neutralize both sides at once and failed in stopping Requiem's escape. In her defense she couldn't of known how slippery such a culprit would be. Not having access to her weapon also hampered her, though considering how events played, I prefer the idea of it being absent. My own launcher wasn't prepped either. Putting that all together with the rising water and the men's Pokemon being rock dumped by Soleil's, it's not good. We got out with luck, happenstance, and the quality of the capture balls I made and were utilized. The assured security of the devices is what finished the debacle, not a masterful battle plan or expert tactics.Technician tech won the day."
"Also, Omega un-muting himself and declaring that I was rigged with a bomb is probably what set the psychic into fleeing, so don't punish him for that if he broke a rule."
Leslie loosens up and sags back into the seat, boredly smug. Or is is smuggly bored?
"Is that enough for you and whoever else will be getting all this... siiirr?"

"I believe that is." Cain says, nodding. "If it turns out that I need more information, I'll call you back in." He gestures towards the door. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to make my report, then send some teams out." He pauses, before becoming a little less formal. "You're lucky, Kincaid, even if you don't feel like it. Make the most of the time that you have to be out and about, before you get too high up, and are stuck sending other people to do jobs while you have to deal with the bureaucracy, relaxing standards, and inadequate numbers of Technicians." There's a barely perceptible hint of bitterness at the end. After a pause, he sighs. "Just enjoy whatever you have, before it's gone. Dismissed."
End Mission 1 Gain 2 Milestones, and each of your Pokémon gains 5 levels.
