On laying eyes on the Absol, Ruruo's shoulders sag. "Bleedin' hells. Th'last time I laid eyes on onner these, the wh-" There's a distinct catch in Ruruo's speech, and his eyes flick to the Lordling. "Woman I frequently entertained came calling 'bout wild oats. Only one thing t'do I spose."
The pirate started rolling up his sleeves behind his elbows, revealing the hairy, well tanned forearms of a shipsman.

Aethus only understood half of what the pirate said. What he could tell was that according to his new ally, these Absol were bad news.
He draws his sword from its sheath, a bright silver Rapier with a gleaming tip. He pulls out a similarly shiny shield with his other hand with a massive red and gold illustration of a Salamence on it.
"Of course."
Aethus doesn't really know why this absol is bad news, but he plays along anyway to avoid appearing foolish.

Edgar looked to his two allies, then to the Absol, shrugging and taking his glaive into his arms, made entirely of steel, curved and without any special illustrations, but shiny, sturdy and razor sharp. "Well, if we're gonna be fighting this thing, I can't complain, even if grouping up on one enemy wouldn't exactly be fair. "
Stepping a bit away from his allies as to not accidentally hit them with his big stick, he eyes the thing. "That blade it has looks kinda nice, I admit. But I bet mine's better!"

The absol, finally discerning the intruder's intentions, stands up and stretches. The fur of its mane puffs slightly, then settles back down. The dedenne have shrunk back from the area, forming a very loose ring around the scene, their loot deposited safely against the roots of the tree. The clearing is 9 meters from edge to edge, and the party is about 6 meters to the Absol.

Unfortunately for Edgar, he hadn't anticipated a battle so soon after they left. Had he had an hour of exercise, he'd be in full fighting form! But alas, he'd just have to make do with what he had.
That said, that was just one Pokemon. Surely, if he is a fine swordsman, he can take it? He watched the battle closely, preparing to lunge in at a moment's notice. >Delaying initiative until after Absol...

Ruruo slipped in beside Aethus and swung a booted foot squarely towards their opponents knees. "Gotta aim for the joints boyo, they're more delicate!"
It'd been awhile since he'd been in a scrap, but meeting eyes with an ill omen like this so early in his ranger career didn't bode well in Ruruo's mind.

Aethus quickly swings his left hand down, blocking the Absol's horn with the butt of his shield, making a loud *clang* noise. Snivy slithers out from the back of Aethus' armor by his neck, and then hops off, slapping a vine down at the Absol.

Sanga let out an excited squeak, rolling off of Ruruo's shoulder lazily. The cloudy Pokemon bounced off the ground with a soft 'pfff' before turning towards the Absol. It's lower body whips up into a whirlwind, the whirling dark cloud slipping free of it's body, whipping into the other Pokemon.

This one seemed to take the hits rather well, considering. He may not like it... But sighing, he joins in on the melee, dashing forward and swinging his huge pole downward on the bladed monster! 'They may be strong, but there's just one of them. We can do this!'

Pride and Sanga add to the combined assault on the mysterious absol. Their attacks are shrugged off, but it creates an opening for Edgar to strike true, his staff whirling in with a flourish and significant force -
When it is met with absol's own gleaming weapon. It was a swift, decisive strike, but the absol parries it successfully with its own blade. It will not be deterred from its declared challenger. For the longest heartbeat, time seems to stop - and then accelerate again, a sudden flurry of fur and claws.

"Do you...think thats... enough to fell...me!" Aethus breaths heavily as he fights off the incoming wave of attacks, attempting to dodge, block, or parry each one. One hit closes in, slicing at Aethus' legs and knocking him back just enough so that the second slice misses. The third comes in to his right side and he's only barely able to twist his arm just enough to knock it off with his Rapier, sending him off balance.
(Using Protect against the second attack that hits).

Ranger Tei-Zen gave his cestus bearing hand a flex or two, listening to the weathered sinew crack and snap along with his bones. "Broken this hand on harder skulls then yers mate, have at it!" At Pride's vine attacks, Sanga let out the faintest peal of thunder, a small charge of light and heat arcing to the Absol.

Edgar stopped after a moment. Yeah, this thing was strong, but this was already completely unfair. That said, to just stand there as his allies fought wouldn't be a good choice, either. He looked to the Dedenne - were they worshiping this thing out of fear or respect? Why were they not acting when they were fighting four to one?
That was not something to be concerned about right now, however. He looked back to the fight, lifted his weapon high into the sky and cheered, mostly to bolster his own will to fight. "Alright, we can do this! Come on!"

The crack of a whip, the crack of thunder, the pokemon's attacks do not relent. The absol's forced back a step, and it looks just a little less ethereal. Something still feels wrong though. . .
Aethus notices a sudden pain along his right ribs - when did that happen? He had deflected that third attack, hadn't he?
Ruruo's fists come crashing down - finding only trampled grass and soft soil beneath. The absol reappears to his right, then with otherworldly speed dashes through to his rear, slashing once at Ruruo and Sanga before making another pair of attacks with its scythelike blade against Ranger Tai-Zen.
Even Edgar's careful observation is failing to make sense of what's happening. The pokemon has been hit several times, and seems weaker, but he can't shake the feeling that the fight isn't over yet. . . It's an unfair fight, but he's suddenly less sure that its the Absol at a disadvantage.
The whole party gets a sense of overwhelming, arcane power impeding their actions!

Sanga continues his assault of small tornados and little arcs of electricity, chirping and spinning and bobbing in place, little eyes peeking just over the top of it's cloud.

Current Turn; Lifting up and away over the incoming Blade, Sanga nimbly darted to one side, Ruruo flat-handed the blade and weaved around the creature's first stroke. His barehanded parry only seemed to enrage it, tragically, and with each strike it's blade bit deep. Ruruo bled and cursed, deep swaths through his light armor. "I'm going to beat a hard lesson into 'im after thatun."
Digging one of his basic balls free, Ruruo looked between it and the king of beasts that had been thoroughly trashing them and taken everything they'd dished out. "Going for it!" Adjusting his position, Ruruo hurled his weapon of choice.

To Edgar, this still seemed somewhat unfair, even if the enemy was doing incredibly well for the situation - of course, he wouldn't have such an issue if he was on the receiving end of it. This made him hesitate still to join in the battle, but deciding that maybe the Pokemon with him wouldn't have as much issue helping, he released the Pokemon he got earlier for what was likely the first time as he steeled himself (get it?) to join in on the battle himself. Maybe he'd think of a name when all was said and done. "Go, Aron! Give them what for!"
