Calyx makes sure to re-iterate your words in the Pokemon language so that there are no misunderstandings. The Wartortles look at each other, obviously discussing what they should do when the runner returns with several large Blastoise in tow. They say something to the Wartortles, getting them to stand down. The one in the center motions you and Calyx forward, and the other two take up position to either side of you, as a sort of "guard escort". You are then brought to a series of caves that appear to be the living quarters for all the Pokemon here. Squirtle of varying ages stop and stare at the visitors being escorted to the elder/leader (at least, that's what you assume is happening) and a few Wartortles seem to be grooming their fluffy ears and tails, ignoring you entirely.
After some time, you reach a larger chamber, where your escorts stop and take up position to either side of the entryway. Your "guide" (the Blastoise leading the way) takes you inside. Within this chamber are a small handful of elderly Blastoise, as evidenced by their faded, sun-bleached shells and scales. They seem to be... inspecting... you, for lack of a better term. They look you over, silently judging your merits (or lack thereof). Finally, after some internal discussion, the eldest of them speaks. Its voice seems to boom loudly, echoing in the rocky chamber.
"Young one! Why is it you have brought this human here?" It asks. Strangely, you can understand it perfectly, as if it were speaking in the human language. Well, at least this makes things slightly easier. However, it seems to be addressing Calyx directly, rather than you. Perhaps it doesn't see you as worthy of being addressed yet.

Floyd's expression goes utterly neutral as Calyx grins at him before turning to the elders and speaking.
"I seek the greatness that is my due and he is my path to greater power. Together we will ascend to glory." She says arrogantly as Floyd slowly shakes his head.

The Elder Blastoise snorts derisively. "Is that all you crave? Power and Glory? That's just like you human-trained Pokemon. Always arrogant and selfish! Denied. Be gone from this place until you learn some humility." It waves its hand dismissively, signalling an end to the conversation.

Floyd immediately starts laughing as Calyx glares at the elder.
"That's what you have to say? Of course I seek power and glory. I am a warrior. And when me, my trainer and our friends overcome the Champion he will shape the culture of the land to one that better matches the way the world will be. And I'll be there to make sure he doesn't fail. If you want nobility ask the magnet. If you want humility or obedience you want the jackal or the dinosaur."
Calyx starts ranting, only for Floyd to shove her back towards the cave entrance.
"I'm sorry about my partner." He says, turning back to the elders. Though he doesn't really disagree with Calyx he can recognise a lost cause. "I'll talk to her about this, get her to think about her answers and motivations before we come back." He says as he heads out.

Once they leave the cave Floyd leads Calyx to a secluded part of the island.
"That went as well as I expected." He says flatly, receiving a glare from Calyx. "Seriously,they're old and this is a spiritual thing. Mega evolution is about our unity of purpose and transcending our limits. It isn't about glory and victory. Even if that is what we'll be using it for." He pauses and lets Calyx think for a few minutes.
When the Blastoise's expression changes from confusion to annoyance again he continues.
"Look at it this way; I could be going after a stone for Telum. He's been with me for about a week longer than you and there's a reason most trainers do this with their starters. Or I could be with Ossia - Lucario are famed for mega evolution and she could certainly use the boost. I could be out here with Esuri or Ligurio or even Falchion. But I chose you. Over all of my other pokemon I chose you. Because I trust you. Because we are far more similar than anyone is ever going to give us credit for. And because I really want to see what you can do with an even bigger cannon." He says looking his partner in the eyes. After a nother minute of thought Calyx grins again, turning back towards the cave
'Now I just have to hope Calyx doesn't get too unbearable. Floyd thinks to himself.

For reasons unknown to you, the Elder Blastoise humors your request for another audience so soon after effectively being told "get lost and come back in a few years when you're more mature". He waits patiently for Calyx to speak her piece.

Calyx turns and looks at Floyd for a moment before speaking.
"I have come here to prove my trainer isn't wrong to have faith in me." She says, somewhat reluctantly.

The Elder's expression remains neutral as he motions for Calyx to continue. "In what way do you plan to do that, young one? How will you prove your partner's trust is not misplaced? How does that coincide with your desire for a Blastoisenite?"

"Floyd believes that I am the best suited to bond with him through mega evolution than all of his other pokemon, despite them being better suited to it. I will prove him right by succeeding at mega-evolution and not descending into a berzerker rage the moment I possess that power." Calyx says, resolutely avoiding Floyd's eyes.
"I don't know how to prove my purity of purpose to you, but if you have any tests beyond talking I will take and surpass them all." She adds confidently.

The statement about avoiding the berserker rage earns a hearty guffaw from the elders. "And here I thought you were confident before! Child, the only Pokemon in known history to not fall into a berserker rage from Mega Evolution are Legends. It is certainly a possibility, however slim, that your Will might match theirs, but I would recommend that you plan for the rage nonetheless."
The Elder pauses for a moment, considering his options. "I'll tell you what, young one. I will grant your request for the Blastoisenite, but first I wish for you to take some time to prepare yourself."
He leads Calyx (and Floyd, by extension) to a small (by Blastoise standards) cave behind a waterfall. Within it is an even older Blastoise, who is named Guardian of the Stones. Calyx must meditate in here with the Stone in his possession for three days. After that time, he will Mega Evolve. If he cannot contain himself, the Stone will be taken from him. This is the ultimate test.
Mechanics: Wait 3 days, each day making a Focus Check. At the end of Day 3, Calyx gains a +6 to his Focus check to control his Mega Evolution. If he succeeds, he does not go berserk and gets to keep the stone. If he fails, he does not get to keep it and Floyd must leave empty-handed.

Somehow, it pays off. All of it. Calyx manages to keep herself calm and relaxed for three full days; breaking only to eat once a day. On the third day, the Stone Guardian presents Calyx with the Blastoisnite. After some effort (and assistance from Floyd), she manages to tap into the power of Mega Evolution. With the surge of power comes a surge of adrenaline and Calyx begins to feel overwhelmed. She wrestles for control over her own mind and body and eventually quells the raging storm of power within her, thus taking her first steps into a new realm of power.
Once all congratulations are offered, the Elder Blastoise assists Floyd and Calyx in departing the hidden island safely and with far greater speed than them coming in. It's a close call for Floyd's air tank, due to the need to avoid ascending too rapidly, but he manages to make it back to the boat.

Floyd emerges from the water on Calyx's back, smirking at the others as he removes his breathing apparatus. Calyx leaps from the water to the deck, with a significantly smugger grin on her face.
"Calyx went beyond the expectations of the elders and prevailed." Floyd says, holding the blatoisinite up high.

Lia was pacing back and forth, debating on if to jump in after Floyd when he finally pops back up. She breathes a sigh of relief before heading over about to throttle him.
"Dude, if you had to stay down there for days can you like... send up a flare or something so we know you aren't dead or something?"
She sighs.
"Well alright, so there were elders or something down there? I mean I guess you got it then."

Floyd calmly catches Lia's hands as she approaches.
"There's a tunnel to an island full of Blastoise, Squirtle and Wartortle. The elder Blastoises thought Calyx was too arrogant but gave her a chance when she was actually honest. Then she meditated for 3 days and mega evolved without going berserk, which the elders said was impossible. Then we came back."

Kaeda sighs, and rubs her temples. At least everybody was safe. "Good job, Floyd, and Lia. Let's get back home. I'm dying for some dry land, and seeing Sasha again!"

After what seems like a long time boating back, they finally get back to the dock they left from. With that, Lia goes to find the captain to thank him and discuss their full bill. It ends up being pricey but... reasonable. Lia pays it and thanks him before unloading her stuff (and Kaeda's too, to be nice). After turning in their rented scuba gear, Lia turns to the others.
"And... land. We are back people! And I feel like I need to fight someone! It's been weeks from a trainer battle! Gotta make sure my muscles didn't atrophy or something dumb after not fighting for so long."
