"Look at some of this stuff," the man says, picking up items that were purchased by Jax such as the Psychock TM. He picks up his Pokédex. "What is this?" he says, pulling a yellow-colored card out if it. Upon removal, the Trainer Card info in Vincent and JoJo's 'dexes changes from Jax's info to the info of someone named 'Peppers LeSpíce' with a picture matching the man in the chef outfit.
"So that's how you managed to parade around as a Trainer," he says. "I wonder who you got to make this thing for you." He snaps the hacking-card in half.
"Sorry, kids, I forgot to introduce myself. I'm Peppers. Peppers LeSpíce. I have a small kitchen way over in Kalos. This Ditto stole my stuff and used a lot of it to forge some kind of false identity, and I've been chasing it for weeks. It looks like whatever wild urge it had to be a person is finally out of its system now, though."
Ditto bounces up and down and momentarily turns into the shape of a human fist.
"Huh. Looks like it wants to battle. Well, either of you are welcome to battle and catch 'Jax' if you want to. I don't want the thing. I'll stay here and keep watch, though, just in case you kids end up needing any help."

"Nice to meet you Mr LeSpíce, I'm Vincent Roth," Vincent said politely. It's funny, with the way he always called everyone Miss and Mister I thought Jax was really by the book. To think he was actually something of a troublemaker.
"Alright," Vincent said. "If we're going to do this, it'll have to be Vel who fights." With that, he promptly called out his first Pokemon.
"Vel, we're fighting Jax-" Machiavelli gave Vincent a confused look. "Yes, he is a Ditto. Don't go easy on him though."

"Mm, best of luck, there, uh, Vincent," Peppers says absent-mindedly as he looks through his Pokédex.
"Goodness," he says to himself. "Did he really capture all of these Poké-.. Oh, he seems to have it set to share data with these two Trainers. Well, now that it has been restored to me, my original two entries should unlock again."
As if on cue, the Pokédex pings twice.
"There they are. Meowth and Dedenne." Vincent and JoJo can add Meowth and Dedenne to their Pokédexes, as they are the two Pokémon that Peppers brought with him.
"Now, what to do with these others. A Mankey, a Silcoon, and a Cacnea. Well, those are intriguing. But this Abra and this Zangoose, ugh, they shall have to go. I have no desire for these two."
Chef Peppers grunts as he breaks the Poké Balls of Abra and Zangoose, releasing them into the wild.
"I suppose I have a lot of explaining to do to you," he says to the Abra. "What's that you say? You've been reading minds this whole time? You already know what has happened? You're okay with returning to the wild and you'll explain everything to Zangoose? Well. No wonder Ditto was so fond of you. You're a very helpful and well-meaning Pokémon. I'm glad that we both want the same thing. Okay, then, off you go."
Abra leaves, taking Zangoose with it. Peppers continues to get his recovered belongings situated but tries to keep an eye on the brewing battle between Vincent and Ditto.

"Well done, my boy. That was quicker than I expected. You're quite the Trainer. No wonder Ditto was following you around. Well, now it gets to be with you from now on, so I bet it's happy about that. I also noticed a gleam in your eyes when I mentioned the Cacnea. Or was that just me seeing things?"

"Ah thank you," Vincent says, caught slightly off guard, though it doesn't show on his face. "You would be correct. I had an agreement with Jax to trade the next Pokemon I caught for that Cacnea. My main specialty is Dark-types you see and Cacnea evolves into one of them."

"That Ditto was watching me for some time before he made his move, I suspect. A lot of his behaviors seem to match up with mine. I'm a bit of a capture-holic myself. Completing the Pokédex would be an amazing accomplishment for me. I had a different Pokédex a few years back, but it was destroyed. I had nearly a hundred entries unlocked in that one. Now I'm starting over. But, hey, how about this - traveling here from Kalos was a heck of a trip. I'm in no hurry to make the journey again and, since I've already come all this way, I'd like to explore Kanto and learn about its regional cuisine. A pair of nice Trainers like you two would be the perfect companions for me. You seem like a nice boy and she seems like a nice girl, if a little quiet. I'll join you kids. Whatever you were doing, count me in. And you can have the Cacnea, sure. Just trade me something decent for it that I can trade to someone else in turn. I like to trade, you see. Did the Ditto mimic that behavior as well?"

Vincent eyed Peppers as he talked. Did he really want to travel with an adult? That must be something of an embarrassment for a young Trainer, having a chaperone like that.
I suppose we do need another member to complete the team now, but him? Vincent wasn't sold on the idea. Now, how to communicate this without being rude however...
"Ah, well, to be completely honest, I'd hoped to travel with people my age. I'm sure there's a lot that we could learn from you, but I'm not sure I'm comfortable travelling with an adult I don't know." Vincent then thought for a moment. "Well I suppose we do know you in a way. You're right, Jax acted exactly as you said. Or, as you do, I suppose. Maybe this won't be as awkward as I imagined then," Vincent had to admit.
Hmm, in that case, this man should be rather useful for completing the Pokedex. I'm sure having him around would be a boon in battles too, he must have some kind of experience with battling. Does he have powerful Pokemon? That Meowth seemed strong. I wonder just how good he is at cooking. If he's anything like Jojo with her skill at fashioning clothes, he might be someone that I could respect. I can't be sure unless I allow him to come with us however. Vincent nodded to himself. I hope Jojo doesn't mind.
"Alright, I say you can come with us, on the condition that you are prepared to cook for us from now on," Vincent said.

Now, I was just about to follow up on a rumor I heard that people drop things occasionally on these Kanto Routes. I've been having to scavenge wherever possible, you see, to finance my pursuit of the Ditto, and now it's just become a habit I enjoy, so I think I'll keep doing it."

As you stand around talking, it suddenly occurs to Vince and JoJo that their original intent was to try and make for Pewter City today. Between the time spent searching Route 1 for discarded/lost items, and the battle with The Ditto Formerly Known as Jax, it is now around noon. You won't make Pewter before dark, even if you start now. The forest may be dangerous, but it's not impossible to traverse at night.
So your party has two options: Pass the day doing whatever (like you've been doing) or make a break for Pewter.
(For reference, Sunset is officially at 7:30-8:00 PM, but the trees of Viridian Forest make it grow dark within by around 4:30-5:00 PM. A one-way trek through the Forest will take approximately 4-5 hours, including time spent fighting off aggressive Wilds.)

On his initial visit to the Viridian Pokémon Center, Peppers also notices the note left there by Jax. Shaking his head, he walks over and reads it. It's surprisingly accurate to his own plans for tomorrow. Looking over his Pokédex entries, Peppers had noticed that a Kakuna and Beedrill were captured and seen, respectively, in the nearby forest, and he had planned to spend the day exploring it tomorrow. He wonders how much of a person's personality a Ditto could genuinely mimic while still trying to be an individual of its own creation. In the end, all he has to do is change the name and the date on the note.

Peppers gets all his newfound items squared away and then whips up four Baby Foods for his old and new Pokémon. He cooks a late lunch for his new companions to prove to them what an amazing chef he actually is.
After everyone has eaten, he suggests that they still go ahead and spend some time in the forest until it gets too dark and then return to Viridian.

Vincent agrees with Peppers and allows himself to be lead towards the forest. Once there, he keeps an eye out for interesting Pokemon, especially that Scyther he'd been obsessed with for a while. He's not so much interested in it anymore, but if he's here anyway, he may as well look for it, right? He also remembers to scour the Forest for items, eager to try and find at least something of some value. His actions once again leave him a little ahead of the group.

Peppers stays with Vincent, searching the forest himself as well.
FcP_AUf21d20 But the forest is not as treasure-laden as the Routes were. Peppers doesn't really find anything worthwhile aside from some interesting natural ingredients that he scribbles some notes about into his little recipe book.
He stays near Vincent until Vincent finds a wild Pokémon. Then he'll see if he needs to stay around for the kid's safety or if he can search for a wild of his own. The kid was, after all, just fine against that advanced Ditto, so maybe he won't need any just-in-case level adult supervision.1d20·1d20

JoJo got to the edge of the forest just behind everyone else, then stopped. She remembered what happened last time. Every doubt and fear tripled in her mind. What the fuck was she doing. She didn't have to travel to make a name for herself. She didn't have to force cute little creatures to fight to make the world know her name. Why was she doing this to the people she loved?
She pulled out her phone and sent a brief message to Vincent, sadly she couldn't text Peppers as she didn't have his pheone number
"I'm sorry guys, I just can't do this. You'll hear from me eventually, I'm still going to be famous, but it's not going to be from being a pokemon master"
