Although Pewter City was a bustling hive of activity in the mid-afternoon, the Museum of Natural History was anything but. A quiet and dusty old place, it was on the north end of town in the foot of the mountains that overshadowed Pewter City itself. The receptionist manning the Museum's front desk was a polite and cheerful young woman, and fortunately admission into the Museum was free of charge - although donations were gratefully accepted.
Inside the Museum, a number of fossil and subfossil Pokemon skeletons stood on display. The most dramatic was the display in the foyer, the skeletons of a Tyrantrum and Aurorus with a pair of Amauras taking shelter behind it, their old bones posed as though they were in the midst of battle.

Terry runs into the folder, red faced and panting from exertion. He stares at the display in awe for a moment before moving to the receptionist's desk. "Hi, I'm here about the fossil reviving service you guys offer? I've had a really great day at Mt Moon and wanna make it even better."

The receptionist smiled and nodded. "Yes, it's actually a separate building from the main campus. You can get you it by heading down that hallway on the left and going out through the exit. You'll find a greenhouse that Professor Jones maintains - he's the Gym Leader around here, too - with some fossil Pokemon in the saltwater pond. Go over the raised walkway and through the other door, and you'll find yourself in the reanimation facility! Let me know if you have any more trouble, okay?"

This was long was from Cinnabar, that's for sure.
A young man, dressed sharply, walked into the Museum. A dwebble skittered by his side.
I suppose this is it then, where the letter said to meet.
He looked down at the letter in question, held in his hands. An invite from Professor Oak to aide in his research. A bit long-winded of a letter, but it's not one to really refuse. And he was really itching to get out into the nation to begin his ascention.
He takes a few steps to the side, and scans the room for the one he's supposed to meet.

"Awesome, thanks!" Terry says, pulling a 400P donation out of his wallet and leaving it on the desk before turning around to leave.
"Oh cool! Nice Dwebble!" He says excitedly, crouching down to get a better look at the adorable little bug. "Where'd you get him from? He looks pretty strong and his shell is definitely nice and hard." The excited blond youth stands up, at his diminutive 5'1" and holds out his hand. "I'm Terry by the way. Bug type specialist and fossil fanatic."

"Hmmm?"
His mind seems to snap back to reality when Terry approached.
"Oh yes, Stoisko here was brought straight from Unova for me. A gift from my mother to get me started on the road."
He grabs the hand and shakes it firmly.
"Stephan Slider. Craftmaster extordinare. A pleasure."

i1380.photobucket.com/albums/ah182/chrystalrogue/Scarlett%20Oak%20post%20avatar_zpspnywqiog.jpg “Stephan Slider?” A blonde teen with a blue butterfly pin in her hair, dressed in a bright blue shirt with a red-and-gold S shield on the chest, a black skirt, and thigh-high stockings approached from the other side of the Tyrantrum-and-Aurorus display. Evidently, she'd been rather engrossed in the bones and the informative placards. The blonde smiled politely and held out a Pokedex. “I’m Scarlett, Professor Oak’s daughter. Daddy wanted me to deliver this to you.”

"Ah yes, then that means 'you' were the one I was supposed to meet. Thank you for not keeping me waiting too long. It's appreciated."
Stephan grins and takes the pokedex.
"Thank you. But I suppose just 'having' the pokedex isn't the end of your father's instructions?"

"Oh hey Scarlett." Terry says cheerfully. "Nice shirt, I can definitely buy you as a bringer of hope. Your dad paying you for delivery or is this pro bono?"

i1380.photobucket.com/albums/ah182/chrystalrogue/Scarlett%20Oak%20post%20avatar_zpspnywqiog.jpg Scarlett’s cheeks colored in embarrassment, though whether it was from Terry's calling her out on her geekery or her forgetting the instructions was hard to tell. “Oh! No, the Professor wants us to collect data on foreign Pokemon being introduced to Kanto to see what they’re doing to the native ecosystem. He’s also interested in evidence of wild interbreeding between native and foreign Pokemon, like with Pokemon that know moves they don’t normally learn. Apparently, before the increased travel between regions Pokemon very rarely would know egg moves, but with increased travel and Trainers releasing their foreign Pokemon it’s becoming more and more common.
“Pro bono,” she said to Terry, making a face before shrugging it off. “But I’m doing pretty good with money, so I can’t complain too much. I'm thinking about doing some excavation work with Professor Jones to see about finding a couple of fossils to sell the Museum - they pay a good price for fossils of high enough quality to revive.”

"Me and my friends are doing that." Terry explains to Stephan. "Well, that and battling gyms as we go. I can tell you now, loads of Wrumple are all over Viridian City.Though I'm not much of one for non bugs. My friend Marshall has found Deerling, Phantump and Skiddo in the area."
He turns back to Scarlett and pulls a Dome fossil out of his bag. "There are so many fossils to be fund on Mt Moon. After yesterday I went hunting and found a whole heap! Dome, Helix, Cloaw, Root and Amber. I'll almost definitely be selling a few."

"Us?"
Stephan looks to Terry, noting that the two do seem to know each other well.
"Like him too, us?"
Terry quickly explains that, however that's more or less forgotten right away as Stephan hears a money-making opportunity.
"Where could we find this... Jones? Enjoying a rather lucarative opportunity to make some start-up cash."

i1380.photobucket.com/albums/ah182/chrystalrogue/Scarlett%20Oak%20post%20avatar_zpspnywqiog.jpg Scarlett leaned in, her blue eyes wide and shining with enthusiasm. "Oh, wow, that’s a really good one! It’s perfectly preserved. You really ought to show that to the Gym Leader here, Professor Peter Jones." She looked from the fossil to Terry. "He’s a paleontologist on top of being a Gym Leader, and he’s really interested in getting together a breeding population of fossil Pokemon in an enclosure that replicates their native environment. Daddy helped him with analyzing some of the ecosystem data."Scarlett looked at the other man with barely-concealed dislike. Something about his yen for yen set her off. She was fine with scientific expeditions, but such naked greed was disgraceful. "Aside from Terry and me, there’s a few others - Terry’s traveling with a couple of them, two guys named Marty and Marshall. They were traveling with a girl, but she kinda vanished.
"As for Professor Jones," she said, "He's usually either in the Fossil Lab or the Gym."

Stephan just seems to plain ignore the ill-will sent toward him, looking off to the side, feigning contemplation.
"Hmmm. Well I suppose if they are all traveling together, that makes for an easier time of everything."
Stephan looks over to Terry.
"It sounds like you lost one of your original group. Care for a 'very' talented replacement?"

Terry grins and shrugs before twisting his face in a mock 'thinking' expression, his arm coming up to rub his chin. "I guess you can tag along. You'll need to get the Boulder Badge soon though, we can't have beginners slowing us down." He thinks and nods decisively, before spinning and moving for the door. "Come on. I need to go revive some prehistoric monsters ASAP!"

"Excellent. But don't worry, you'll find I am no 'beginner'."
He moves to follow Terry, but stops first and turns to Scarlett.
"A pleasure to meet you my dear."
He then continues on after Terry.
"So I suppose if you have that kind of aura of confidence, then you must have had some success at the league so far."

"Yep. I beat Buzz on my first try, winning this Hive Badge." Terry says, tapping the honeycomb shaped badge on his bandanna as he heads out to the greenhouse. "Seeya Scar! I can't wait to take on Peter with my own Fossil pokemon! It'll be a clash of ages!"

"Well remind me to find my way back to this 'Buzz' at some point to take him down. I'd like to catch up after all."
Stephan continues following, looking around the museum, seemingly in thought.

Scarlett seemed only too happy to take the dismissal and depart; in truth, she wasn’t eager to spend more time than necessary with this Stephan character, much less go visit the Professor after he’d handily trounced her earlier that day. Her Pikachu had done well enough, but that Aerodactyl had finished her electric varmint off and then utterly devastated her Nidorino.
The receptionist didn’t do the greenhouse justice. A glass dome nearly a hundred feet in diameter and thirty feet tall in the middle, the raised walkway took visitors over a small piece of the distant past. Most of the ground was covered in shallow pools interlinked with small waterfalls and streams, primitive plants and algae growing everywhere to give the revived fossil Pokemon darting about both food and shelter. Not only were there the expected Omanyte and Kabuto, but also Magikarps, Yanmas, Lileeps, and Anoriths. A purple-skinned Aerodactyl roosted in the rafters, watching the two humans with its raptor’s gaze. It gave a shriek when it saw them enter the greenhouse, flapping its wings loudly.

"Didn't your friend Scarlett mention that the professor was indeed the Gym Leader as well?"
Stephan looks up to the nearly-literal fossil shrieking at them.
"That thing doesn't seem to like us."
