Jack gives the professor an incredulous glances as the man loses himself in his musings. There were a few things said that Jack doesn't want to let slide, but it's clear that he won't get a straight answer out of the scientist for a little while. After Sienna speaks, Jack folds his arms, turns his attention to her, and replies. "I think that's... debatable." Jack then settles into a more amiable posture and continues talking. "Anyway. The name's Jackson Michaels, but most people call me Jack."The self-introduction is polite, though slightly rehearsed. Before Jack can decide if Sienna's preference to curtsy means that he shouldn't offer a handshake, a nearby snap and Hemlock's remarks derail his train of thought. Jack doesn't bother to respond and looks into the darkness for the source of the noise. As the professor keeps walking away, Jackson catches up with a few quick strides then follows the other two, paying much more attention to the new flora than to his new companions. The Sodden Den Cosette is dragged through the darkness, the path the thing that had taken her on twisting and turning through several tight channels. The journey is fast paced but still is long enough that it strains her ability to hold her breath, and just before her limit is reached she finds herself being thrust out of the water into fresh, though humid, air.
The place she finds herself in is dark, moreso even than the forest which she had been in previously. What appeared to be a dense arrangement of branches was assembled above her formed a dome, which even at its highest point forces her to stoop down to avoid hitting her head. The claustrophobic environment is only enhanced by the fact of there being only a few meters in any direction before the dome meets the ground. The thick roof only allows the faintest bit of the already faint light above through, meaning that Cosette can only really make out vague outlines of the area. The ground underfoot is hardly what could be called solid; Cosette's feet sink at least half a foot into it with every step.
The creature which brought her here seems content to leave her to her own devices at the edge of the small pool which seems to serve as its entrance and exit from this place. In the poor lighting Cosette can only make out its rough outline, though the light reflecting off of it gives the impression of it being covered in some sort of mucus or slime. Whatever it is, it is large, almost five feet tall when it stands upright, though it seems more comfortable walking (or in this semi-solid environment, wading) on all fours. It lets out a low gurgling sound, which is responded to twice: once by a sound which sounds similar, only much higher in pitch, and once by a faint but undeniable answer in English.
"H-hello? Are you back?"
The Dark Tangle Jack and Sienna follow the professor, unable to see anything amongst the trees which may be watching them but also unable to shake the feeling of being watched. Occasionally when Sienna's eye's wandered, somewhere in her peripheral vision something like a face flashed into view for just a second, but vanished if she ever tried to focus on it. Jack's eye on the flora never saw them move, but any time he looked away and back another flower which had been facing away had apparently turned to follow them, like sunflowers following the sun.
For his part the professor does not seem perturbed by these strange goings on. Though admittedly, from his distracted muttering behaviour it might simply of been that he had not yet noticed such things. Neither Sienna nor Hemlock are well adapted to walking in the thick undergrowth, and if Jackson so wished he could easily outpace them with his more practiced wilderness experience.
Once they had gone a fair distance from the site of the attack, they begin to hear sounds up ahead. While at first it only sounds like only a slight disturbance of the underbrush, after a few more steps are taken and a distressed voice can be heard, it becomes clear that what they are hearing is a struggle.

Ordinarily, Jack would love to stop and examine the flowers, memorizing every detail so that this forest could be as much of a home as others he's seen, but two things prevented this action. First, the clumsy trudging of the professor and Sienna serves as a constant reminder of the current abnormal circumstances. Second, these plants seem wrong in a way separate from their unfamiliarity. Jack takes a deep breath and shoves down the apprehension beginning to creep up his spine. The behavior of the flowers may be unsettling, but it's not dangerous, right?
Once Jack notices the sounds of a struggle, he hesitates in his stride for a moment. He then pulls his hands out of his pockets and picks up the pace, passing the others and heading straight for the voice. A part of him questions the wisdom of such an action but is ignored. If someone is in real trouble, you help. That's just what you do.

Sienna couldn't let the new person out of her sight, something in her very bones told her bad things were to happen if they were separated so with strength she didn't know she had she would help steer the professor with her and follow behind. Not taking to a liking of seeing faces following her that vanish like ether.

The moment she breaks the surface, Cosette takes a deep breath, and then proceeds to scream as she crawls away from whatever dragged her here. She turns once she reaches the dome, and starts hitting it, trying to break through. Her sodden clothes make her tire quickly, after which she sits against the dome, glaring at the thing, holding her knees to her chest. She shudders as she sinks into the mud, or whatever it is she's sitting on.

The Sodden DenAfter Cosette's outburst had ended, the creature which apparently did not care for having its home being assaulted wades over to where she had struck and busies itself there, the low light making it difficult to discern its exact activities. While the creature attends to the structural integrity of its home, Cosette sees another figure make its way towards her. Judging from the silhouette, it is a human, and by her figure and faint whisper of a voice it could be said with a fair degree of certainty that she was a woman. "Hello? A-are you... alright? Hurt?" The voice is halting, fading in and out as though she was having difficulty even finishing a sentence. The Forsaken GroveJackson bursts into the clearing ahead of Sienna and the professor just in time to see a strange tableau: a man falling unconscious, apparently losing a battle against pieces of litter crawling all over him. Upon being walked in upon, the creatures cease moving as though in doing so Jackson might be taken in by their deceptive appearance. This only lasts for a moment, as they scurry away seconds before something else makes its presence known. A canine creature with shaggy black fur coving its back, tail, and paws, and silver fur covering everything else creeps out of the treeline on the other side of the clearing, slowly making its way to the prone form of the man and growling threateningly at Jackson. The Dark TangleJust behind of Jackson, Sienna and the professor stumble through the undergrowth with considerably less grace than their newest companion, so they are not yet able to see the scene Jackson has stumbled upon. While they could hear anything happening in the in the clearing up ahead it would be a few moments longer before they would reach it. Unfortunately their unseen stalker decided that this was the opportune moment to strike. Falling from the trees, a hooded serpent longer than a man is tall descends between the professor and Sienna, attempting to wrap its dark purple coils around Hemlock before either has a chance to react. Upon making his initial assessment of the scene, Jackson pauses and blinks at the sight. Living trash was pretty much the last thing he expected to see, given how strong nature is in this place. Any time to speculate is cut short, however, as a new beast enters. Like all the other things in this place, everything about the creature is disturbingly unfamiliar, aside from its wolfish presence. He recalls the standard procedure for dealing with potentially hostile animals: appear large, threatening, and not worth a fight. The animal is smaller than him, so Jackson figures that he has a fighting chance if it decides to attack. After a moment's heistation, he spreads his arms so that the upper arm is parallel to the ground and his forearm is perpendicular to it. He stares the creature dead in the eye and makes his voice as threatening as possible as he takes a solid step between it and the unconscious man. "Get back." Jackson's Intimidate: 8bM8M6583d6 3d6

" Eek!" Sienna squeaks out as the great hooded snake drops onto and begins coiling the professor but a male voice calls out to her giving instructions " Strike quickly, draw attention away." Sienna doesn't quite know where the voice is coming from. It sort of sounded like it was coming from an old gramophone. But thanks the the large profile of the snake in front of her she lines up the stylized scarab's wings like edges of a blade and with a shout of " Let go!" strikes down upon the snake with great vengeance, a mysterious black fire flaring from the old microphone as she does. Sienna calls upon Secret Force against the 'snake'

The Forsaken GroveThe canine creature seems more confused than threatened by Jackson's display, but for the moment it stops its advance so the outcome is a net positive it would seem. It watches him warily as a brief flash of light with no apparent source appears in its eyes. After a few more moments of facing off it finally... chuckles? No canine should be capable of that but that is all you can call the sound it makes. It barks into the treeline behind it, and on command two smaller canines come out. Their colouration is slightly different than the larger one- black fur on their faces and paws and mostly silver everywhere else- but they seem to listen to its instruction. Namely, as it nods its head in your direction and slinks back into the trees, the two take a low hunched stance and bare their teeth at you. The larger canine is still barely visible at the edge of the clearing, sitting on its haunches and watching what unfolds with great interest. Jackson has the higher speed, so he's got the initiative. The Dark TangleThe serpent may have expected an attack from its prey's companion, but it clearly didn't expect the black fire which sprung from Sienna's weapon. The swing goes wide, but the flames sear the creature's scaly flesh as it passes by, causing it to hiss in surprised pain. It recovers quickly, setting its sights on Sienna. Its eyes seem to pierce her like daggers with a glare. Arbok's Glare: ct3DexVy1d20-6 vs 2 + Sienna's Special Evade, Sienna is paralyzed if successful The sounds of each of these scenes of increasing danger are loud enough that both Sienna and Jackson can hear that the other is in some kind of trouble. 1d20-6

The lead wolf's actions were concerning at best. Laughter (if that's what it was) and bringing out children for 'practice' were signs of intelligence surpassing the average animal. Jackson mentally admonishes himself for his error in judgement. There is something unusual about this forest, so there was no reason to expect the animals to be normal. Hopefully, he's not dealing with a spirit or devil of hunting. Jackson considers running but that's usually the worst thing to do when encountering a predator, and he doubts that the alpha would let him. He may be able to communicate properly with the leader, but instinct tells him that winning this fight is an essential first step. After a moment's hesitation, Jack takes a step forward and aims a kick at the right cub's nose. Struggle Attack! AC 4: tG7ZwnrQ1d20 Damage: 1d8+11 1d20·1d8+11

The Forsaken GroveThe pups are intelligent enough to approach their target from different directions, one coming directly towards him with the other pulling away to attack from Jack's left, but don't seem to be particularly evasive in their individual maneuvers. Jack is able to soundly connect his boot with the snout of one of his attackers, causing it to yelp out in pain. It isn't enough to disrupt their own offensive however. Rather than biting as he might expect, the wolf he had just struck makes a full body check, setting him up for a follow up in the form of another tackle from his left. The Dark TangleThough she can feel its intent, the serpent's paralyzing glare washes over Sienna like water off a duck's back. The note she sings out in response causes it to scream out in agony, and suddenly Sienna can be quite sure as to what made the noise that had drawn them deeper into these woods in the first place. Its mind in chaos, the serpent lashes out randomly in an attempt to put an end to Sienna's noise. Jackson sidesteps the first attack with relative ease, but the distraction allows the second cub to make contact. The creature's small body kept the impact from hurting too much, but it was enough to knock Jack off his balance and force him to stumble a few steps to his right. It's a little strange that the beast didn't just sink it's teeth into his legs, but there's no reason to complain. He circles around the cub he already hit, placing it between himself and its untouched sibling. Jackson then attempts to plant another kick on the cub, this time with a sweeping blow toward the ribs. 2 Speed Evasions, I never thought you'd be useful this early on

The Forsaken GroveJackson's foot strikes true, connecting solidly with the pup's ribs. He may have even hear something crack, though in the middle of the fight it would be hard to confirm that. The 'minor' impact of the cub's bodies isn't minor anymore. From a headbutt to the family jewels to getting pinballed across the clearing, he wonders if bites would be less painful. The last hit does some real damage; it's going to leave a very colorful bruise. He's not going to be able to take many more of those, but at one of his foes is in the same boat. With more than a little anger, Jackson dashes over to the injured animal and punts it in the chest. If still conscious:
Jackson uses the momentum of his first kick to bring his foot above the pup's head, then viciously stomps down with his hiking boot. He's starting to get carried away in the heat of the fight, and his instincts are saying that something so small shouldn't be giving him this much trouble. If first target fainted:
With the first threat taken out, Jackson turns to the other obnoxious mutt. He takes a step back from his fallen foe, then pivots, allowing the momentum to send his boot at the side of its head. No mercy for this little bastard. Fortunately, Tackles put Jackson out of AoO range, leaving him free to attack who he pleases. Target remains A.

The Forsaken GroveThe pup manages to duck enough to turn what could have been a critical hit into a glancing blow, though still a painful one from the look of it. It retaliates immediately, charging forward to ram its head into Jackson's gut. Poochyena B uses tackle! fNp3|7bT1d20 vs 2 + Jackson's physical evade Damage: 1d8+12 The Dark TangleThe serpent seems to have gained enough of its senses to turn and face Sienna again- just in time for her to bring her microphone down on its head. It connects solidly with its skull and finally downs the massive creature, its coils loosening from around Professor Hemlock. Though he seems to have lost consciousness, he appears to be breathing regularly if a little roughly. From somewhere, Sienna cannot seem to tell where, the sound of clapping and a chuckle filters through the trees. It is followed by a voice much different that the one which had been guiding Sienna up until now. It is filled with amusement and just a hint of mockery. "Well done, well done. I hadn't thought you would be up to the task, but a dutiful little disciple wouldn't back down when her master is in peril, would she? Now, however, might I suggest turning your attention from him to that other ally of yours?"1d20·1d8+12
