"Nah, they're fine staying as however for however long," Brad says. "It's mostly whatever's easier for you. They tend to get more energetic in the sun, melancholy in the rain, stubborn in the sand - which, uh, can be a problem if they don't want to find water - and then mischievous in the snow. Though, any individual might not meet those molds, or prefer certain weather, so, your mileage will vary."
"Eight years?" Val asks, "Why so particular? But... no, not really. There was some turbulence and problems back when Groudon and Kyogre woke up, like, fifty years back, but they worked towards normalization over the next little while. Around the time of the meteors, things got a little bit more out of whack, but they've remained stable within acceptable parameters over the last twenty-odd years."

"Oh? A little out of whack in what sense? I'd heard inklings of a pair of legendaries duking it out, but not any details." She considered Rainbow's talk of the goddess before. "Certainly nothing about the meteors impacting the weather either." Conversation was naturally steering that way, it might not seem so odd for her to segue into a conversation about the spread of the radiation.

"Not much to tell," Vince shrugs. "We don't really know any more than the next person. League might know more, but they couldn't exactly keep quiet that Aqua and Magma had woken up some legends a half-century back. Someone was able to wake Rayquaza up without dying after a week or two, and so weather-controlling heads got knocked together. We know that much, at least. Places dried out or got deluged on, seas got a bit nastier. All in all, it meant some weird seasons for a few years, until things levelled out. Woulda been worse if they'd been able to carry on."
"Shouldn't need to worry, though," Val adds. "People actually pay attention to whackos saying they want to wake the gods or whatever other stupid thing they're spewing now. On the off chance someone tries that again."
"As for the meteors... still couldn't really tell you. Might've been some atmospheric turbulence, or something," he shrugs again. "Maybe dust? We haven't been able to tell, though. All we know is the average has stayed the same, the variation's just gone up. Befuddling." He laughs. "But... hey, as long as there are mysteries, science is never boring."

Folding her arms across her front, the girl dipped her head in thought. "Well, I should hope it isn't dust from the meteors, given what the radiation does to people and Pokemon. Highs being higher, and lows being lower, a maintained statistical average, that is something akin to a pollution model isn't it? Greenhouse gases and a rising global temperature causing for more extreme weather?"
So there were three of these Pokemon that checked each other. Two had shown to create the Deadlands, but there had been no sign of the third at that time. Rainbow's belief was that time was inflexible, but maybe it had a tensile strength, a change with a large enough impact remaining because it could not be undone. It was dangerous thinking, and she much doubted that she would be capable of such a thing.
"I know it might not be as topical to our presence here at the Weather Institute, but what can you tell me of those three Pokemon? This 'Rayquaza', it's the first I have heard of it."

"I was more meaning impact dust, from the existing land," Vince says. "Whatever those things are made of, I really wouldn't want it spreading, no. But we'd have noticed it happening. Or, well, someone would have."
"Ah, you must be from further west," Val says. "That side of Hoenn doesn't really have much in the way of ancient heritage. Mt. Pyre's the big one, but there's the Cave of Origin, the Sky Pillar, weird underwater ruins... a lot of kids on the east have a phase where they obsess over that stuff. I never really did, but enough people 'round me did to learn the tales."
"Basically - and apparently Mt. Pyre has this all in picture form on the walls - there were three Pokémon that crafted the world. Groudon the land, Kyogre the sea, and Rayquaza the sky. There were some golems, too, that towed pieces into place, but they aren't important to this. Now, Groudon and Kyogre bickered a lot. The surface of the world constantly changed as the land and sea battled for supremacy. Eventually, Rayquaza had enough, and forced the others to play nice, because she was tired of downstairs constantly yelling at each other."
"They settled down for a time, slumbering beneath the ground and the waves, and people grew up on the land and thrived from the sea. But their power couldn't be contained. It eventually bubbled up in the form of the Red and Blue orbs - according to legend, at least. Nobody was able to really make them do anything until that incident ages ago. Used to be on display atop Mt. Pyre, League has them locked away now, apparently."
"But... yeah, so, as Vince said, there was that kerfuffle, orbs got used to wake up the Land and the Sea while the Sky was still sleeping, and then we had the weather fighting itself, until someone went to give a wake-up-call up Sky Pillar. Dunno what happened to 'em all afterwards, though. Haven't heard a peep. Guess our parents got all the fun." She laughs.
"It's hard to believe that, until then, we didn't have any proof that these legends were true. Just stories passed down through the ages. But now we have video evidence, sensor data... it makes you wonder what else might be true."

Beatrice fidgeted gently in place. "Whoever woke Rayquaza, are they known? Is that footage something you have available on site? Anything that can control weather on that grand a scale must be worth studying." Her eyes sparkled. "Shame I wasn't born sixty years sooner, but learning about it now is probably far safer then experiencing it then."

"Nobody knows for sure, but rumour has it that it was the person who ended up becoming Champion fairly soon after, Brendan Yuki." Vince shrugs. "Doesn't really make a difference in the end. It's pretty clear that messing with things tends to end poorly, so I can see why people wouldn't want that getting out."
"Uh... probably don't have it, no," Val says. "We have the data from that event in our system, but not the event itself. It's not actually relevant to us. You could probably go and look at a library or archive or something. 'Specially in Sootopolis."

"I can only imagine it would take someone of that level of skill to do what was done." Bee replied in awe. "He'd have to be well retired by now though? I'm afraid I haven't kept track of the upper echelons of League structure, despite being five badges in now." The trainer laughed sheepishly. "At any rate, thank you for your time, all of you. It's given me a lot to think about, and a few places to visit in my travels as we explore Hoenn."

"Yeah, there's been at least one or two Champions since him," Vince says. "I dunno. I kept up with the League more in my youth, but it's not really super-relevant to me nowadays." He laughs. "Ah, young-me would be so disappointed that I didn't keep up with the latest trading cards or anything."
"Were you one of those boys who just wanted to complete their 'ladies of the League' collection?" Val asks, wryly.
"No..." he replies defensively. "Not... entirely, at least. Look, I wanted them all, okay? Uh anyways," he turns to Bea, chuckling, "thanks for the shakeup in an otherwise ordinary day. Always nice to have people who appreciate what we do."
"It's certainly taught me a lot," Rainbow says, genuinely.
"Well, I'm glad. Maybe someday you can actually come work here," Val laughs.
"I appreciate the offer, but I feel like it wouldn't work out."
"Hope it all goes well with your Castform," Brad adds, as Vince leads them back to the entrance.
"So, Bee..." Rainbow asks, once they're outside again, "Why the interest in the weather patterns and stuff. Do you think it has something to do with what we're doing?"

"Three Pokemon of incredible power over the land, sea, and sky. If anything were capable of regenerating the world in your time, it would be them. I have a new theory, but testing it would likely be excessively dangerous." Beatrice explained as she began walking along with Rainbow. "I believe there is a threshold to which history corrects itself. If we exceed that threshold, then it would be forced to change. Events the magnitude of the lands and sea going to war with each other."
Her hands searched for pockets that weren't there and eventually settled for bunching up her skirt a little for some way to rest her hands. "Consider, Kyogre and Groudon's slumber in the corruption and their eventual waking creates the Deadlands when they went berserk. Capturing them, pre-empting this task, and moving them forward in time prevents two catastrophes at once. Time can only correct one of them. The Deadlands undergo a volcanic eruption, or an earthquake, some other manner of natural disaster. Those beings of incredible power over the earth remain unblemished. Safe."

"Or we die trying," Rainbow says, simply. "If you are wrong... then any attempts to alter time in that way would be doomed to fail, likely at the cost of our lives." She shakes her head. "I... I don't feel like it would work. Besides, even if they did get saved initially... the world is still corrupted. So nothing changes. Except there now being two catastrophes."

"They are still Pokemon, and can be protected in the way that Yellow said he can protect them from the corruption... or, barring that, a compatible partner found for hybridization. Something that takes Millenia to corrupt may never get properly well again. How far into the future are you willing to go to find that time?" Bee frowns. "I understand you are skeptical."

"I... will not go beyond my own time," Rainbow says, shaking her head, voice wavering, tears welling in her eyes. "I'm... I'm sorry, Bee. I don't... don't want to risk fixing the future into something that cannot be changed. That's how it's always seemed to be. And... I just can't. I can't have that happen."

"It's alright Rainbow, it's okay." She soothed, concern on her face. "We'll figure out something that works together. I'll learn what I can about Rayquaza, and the Sky Pillar for now. If she wasn't corrupted like the other two, finding a way to cleanse the pollution from the air might be a place to start. One problem at a time though. I won't press again, I was just trying to help." Pulling the hybrid into a firm hug, she was careful of the girl's wings.

"Th...thanks," Rainbow says, returning the hug. "I'm sorry. I'm really sorry. I want to help... but I don't want to make things worse."
She takes some breaths and calms down before releasing Bea. "They said something about the League... right? So... you have someone you can call, right? She might be able to tell you more."

"The power that they possessed bubbled up from the earth in the form of Blue and Red Orbs... which are now under the protective watch of the League." Bee tapped the side of her head. "That isn't the sort of thing they would just hand over either, no matter my progress or achievement." Exhaling softly, she considered the dirt at her feet. "Yellow might be able to retrieve them if I knew where they were. I'll call Evelyn at our next stop and see what can be made of this line of thought."

"I meant just... learning more," Rainbow says. "Not necessarily trying to do anything. I... don't know if trying to have that sort of power would be a good idea." She seems uncomfortable at the thought.

"Oh, I'm not sure what else there would be to learn about the league beyond who the current Elite Four and Champion are. I'm bound to encounter them eventually anyway if I stay the course with the League challenge. I suppose I should take Yellow's bemusement about humans to heart. Rushing things, or being impulsive about this repair we're moving to make is more likely to do harm then good." Scratching her nose softly, she sighed. "Still, learned that there is a lot beyond my field of expertise of potential relevance today. Exploring the occult portions of Hoenn's culture would help making the time capsule, and possibly yield a solution."

"I meant about the Pokémon," Rainbow says, laughing, "not the League itself. They have the orbs, so they must know something, right? Or they might not... I don't know. And, right, the time capsule! I do feel like that's a misleading name for it, though..."

"Finding out about what transpired, and if Brendan Yuki is still somewhere in Hoenn, there is certainly more I could include in my notes there. Do you have a better name for a vacuum sealed container containing information from a bygone age?" Bee playfully quirked an eyebrow.
