Upon crossing the misty portal, the party pursuing the town of Salec finds themselves at the outskirts of the desert town. Towering above them stand various concrete buildings, that may appear to be more barbaric constructs, but upon closer inspection bear their own intricate and intuitive form of engineering. The people wear light and flowing cloths to help bear with the intense heat of the land, and walk upon the sandy streets in their bare feet. Many chammer about in foreign tongues, while a few stare off to the odd sight of ravnican citizens suddenly appearing out of nowhere. In the distance, there appears to be some buildings with clear heavy damage. many have craters missing from their sides, with large scorch marks burnt from a large area of impact, spreading out in a spherical form. There are plenty of options on how to proceed from here.
- You could start by seeking the local soldier's keep, as the military figures of the town would surely have been involved if a calamity occurred nearby. - The Town's regent, Sai'la may be of use, though she is a very important figure in the town that might not be available at the moment. - Various stores and shops have individuals who are versed in combat, such as alchemist's shops, blacksmiths, wizard's abodes, and druid's ware's. Perhaps they may know something? - Or you could just ask random people! That's always an option.

Since Orzhov is one big hierarchy, where it is imperative not to pass those in a higher position, Helga can't fathom any other first step than to speak with the town's regent, and inform them of their inquiry.
She turns to the group. "Fellow planeswalkers, it seems there are many ways to skin this cat. We can opt to split up or to remain together, there might be value in both." Helga looks towards the center of the town. "I will seek out the town's regent, to inform them what we're doing here. They could also point us in the right direction, who knows."
Helga pauzes and looks at her companions, Ghot, Romil and potentially others. "What will be your next course of action?"
OOC: are there other NPC planeswalkers joining us on this quest?

Romil moved through the portal at a slow and deliberate pace. Upon reaching the other side, he let out a groan at feeling the arid air. Looking down to Helga as she spoke of her planned actions, his response was to point toward the destroyed and damaged buildings where a conflict, if not the actual death of the dragon had occurred.

Helga looks at the treeshaped man with enlarged eyes, as they seem to move and do something profoundly. She follows his finger with her eyes, tilting her head sideways.
She smiles and shrugs. "One down to inspect the scene of the crime. Anyone joining him?" Helga appears awkward, hoping she guessed their gender correctly. But she quickly bulldozes through her own sense of awkwardness. "I'm Helga, what's your name?" She says as she puts her hand out for a handshake.

The treant seemed to regard the offered hand for a moment, before mirroring the motion with an effort toward gentleness.
"Romil."
While the voice was graveled and the response curt, there was no hostility in the tone. It sounded welcoming, nodding in agreement to her assessment of his intended actions.

"It's a pleasure to make the acquaintance ..." She feels a bit out of her wheelhouse communicating with Romil, because of his brevity, definitely not used to that in Orzhov. Although she does appreciate his apparent gentle and authentic nature.
"I'll make my way back to the scene of the crime after I've talked to their leader, so let's reconvene there. Although we have to be ready to be on our toes and react fast if needed. If I don't find you there, I'll know that something happened." She nods, then looks at the other Planeswalker(s) to see what their next move will be.

[OOC with you are Ghot, and a few background characters who we can dive deeper into should you find them interesting enough. One is the Rakdos Planeswalker Tenor Kabrul, and his tiefling child, and one is an Azorious Angel, known as Adoel] Adoel Tenor Kabrul speaks briefly with the tiefling child and looks up with a chuckle. "We would be delighted to accompany Romil to the destroyed buildings. I believe we may be a bit better at articulating the inquiries our dear herbal companion may struggle to communicate"Ghot shuffles to Helga's side "Gh00t Fol!oW5 thE OzzzhoR!on . . . When Ghot speaks about his desire to protect her, Helga radiates and smiles gently. "That's very sweet Ghot."
Helga had been trying to avoid Adoel but when she floats over the party, she can't contain herself anymore. Aasimars are considered fantastic beings, while they're only the descendants of these magnificent creatures. Angels ... they're the real deal. Helga has never met an Angel in real life. She only just fantasized about how perfect they must be. And now she doesn't just find herself in the presence of one, she also has the opportunity to work with her ... Helga's eyes sparkle from the mere thought. With Adoel there, this mission would be nothing but a walk in the park.
Helga snaps out of her fan fever and notices that she has to grab hold of this opportunity, before anyone else does.
She bows before the Angel. "It would be an honor to have you accompany us to see the regent."

The warrior treant groaned again. Whether in agreement to the vampire or in protest was indeterminate. He did not look toward Tenor or the tiefling child as he moved toward the battle site.
His movements were slow and methodical, even in the desert heat. Despite the lethargic motions, the wide gate covered the ground quickly.

Adoel nods and gracefully floats behind Helga and Ghot as she lets Helga lead the way. The young girl's charisma apparently was strong enough to obtain an angelic follower, and an abomination beyond mortal comprehension. Ghot seems to struggle to walk through the denser sand, loosing bits and pieces through their sinking sensations, leaving Adoel to pick him up bone by bone. After a bit of travel, you all approach a large, ornate building garbed in various curtains, lights, and bells. The Regent's front door is guarded by a pair of anthropormorphic lizard warriors, who seem to recognize your status, and let you into the equally gallantly interior of the building, leading through a large hallway, and the regent sitting upon her throne The regent looks down upon you, unfazed, unfeeling. "Ravnicans? What brings your lot to my quarters?"
Tenor Kabrul and the demon child follow Romil to the blackened craters and rubbles of the former homes and businesses. During the entirety of the walk, the demonic child kept pestering Romil with various questions regarding Romil's life, upbringing, friends, enemies, and so on. Upon arriving at the damage, you find that the entirety of the craters and the buildings have hardened into black chalk, clearly rememnants of the sever burns they experienced during the conflict. The craters in the buildings and ground seem to all be in perfect spherical forms, giving you a decent understanding of the type of damage being done. Each crater is roughly 10-20 meters wide in diameter, except for a incredible large crater that, while a few miles away, is clearly the impach where Nicol Bolas died. It seems large enough to fit most of ravnica, and will likely age into a great wonder for generations to come.

When making their way to the Regent, Helga tries to help Ghot through the sand but fails to offer any real assistance, they just cock about together. When Aboel comes to rescue the situation, Helga gazes upon the ease of which Aboel handles things. Such grace, such perfection. Her mind wanders off into how perfect she is and her imagination runs wild. She starts thinking about what type of character the Regent will have, the expected pitfalls of us intruding into her lands, sticking our nose where it doesn't belong and how Aboel will probably be able to navigate that diplomatic maze with her amazing skill.
Just before they enter the room, Helga shivers from excitement and whispers to Ghot. "Play close attention ... this is gonna be awesome."
The Regent speaks and Helga responds first. She steps forward, kneels and bows her head. "Dear Regent of Salec. Thank you for this audience on such short notice. I would like to introduce you to Aboel." she brings up her head, to look at the Angel. Her eyes are twinkling with emotion. This moment is already perfect. Now she'll get to see the brilliance of the Angels ... the admiration, the hope ...

Adoel majestically floats closer to the honored regent. Before you stand two extremely powerful, graceful, and admirable women who likely have inspired and traumatized hordes of strong and powerful warriors. It could be considered a very fortunate and rare opportunity to witness such a meeting of two titans. Adoel clears her throat, and begins speaking
"Look you stupid C**t. We F*****n know all about the B** D** Dragon B**S*** that hapened here, yet you ***** back riding *****'s **** are acting like nothing f****ing happened!! DO YOU THINK WE'RE SO D*****N R*** YOU ****** PURPLE NOSED **** *** ****** SUCKING ON A ***** WITH **** ******** *** ***!!!"
The room is silenced at the atrocity and vulgarity of Adoel's speech. The Regent looks to Helga. Ghot leaned close to Helga's ear and whispers
"Was G00D? GhoT dOeSNtt th!nK was Goodd"

Helga falls to her knees.
Her mouth drops open and she can't believe this is happening. With the first couple of words, it could have still made some sense in her mind, that it'd be some weird negotiation technique or the setup for a punchline. But the diarrhea of words just kept coming. A cocoon of pure anxiety and pressure surround Helga's mind.
This isn't possible. This can't be reality. Angels are perfect. This must be the dumbest and most rude thing I've ever heard. Aboel must be a shapeshifter or an imposter, pretending to be a majestic being. Yeah, that's the only explanation. Or maybe this is real. Maybe Angels aren't that great. Maybe my life has been a lie. My identity, my self-image, my heritage. Did I just tell myself a bunch of lies to make me feel good about myself? Am I a fraud? Not who I claim to be, but a worthless piece of garbage?
Her face turns whiter than a glass of milk. The expression on it screams despair. She's cowering, almost unable to move. Ghot's words don't even penetrate into her skull.

It wasn't that the treant couldn't comprehend the excitable child. It simply did not have the speech pattern to answer the devil as fast as it could spit out questions. Keeping the answers to single words helped slightly, though Romil was focused on the craters. More specifically, the buildings and people around the craters that might have witnessed such a calamity.
The central hole was so massive. He peered down into it's chasm, curious as to the composition of the soil layers beneath the desert sands. As he looked down, he pointed out surviving buildings.
"Should ask... witnesses."
If the vampire desired to help with all of his eloquent speaking, this was the time.

With no response from Helga, the Regent swings her arms at the group, distain seething promanently from her unveiled eyes.
"Such vile speech shall NOT be tolerated in my hold! OUT! ALL OF YOU!! AND DO NOT RETURN!"
Tenor Kabrul nods and heads to some of the broken buildings. Many of the residents seem damaged, covered in bandages, and bearing casts and canes. They don't seem to to pay much attention to you or Tenor Kabrul until the vampire greets a few. His charm and eloquence seems to gather a soft smile, but the patrons of the desert seem to have little to no energy to offer much more. The patrons also seem to be in such an exhausted state that they aren't able to offer much information before breaking out into tears.

As the reality of the moment starts to sink in, Helga goes from despair to panic, she moves closer to the Regent, although at this point she quickly notices that that's easily mistaken for a hostile act.
"Dear Regent, I'm truly sorry for Adoel's behavior. I did not know she was gonna do that. I had this illusion that … nevermind, it was a failure from my end. If you choose to cut all diplomatic ties, I would completely understand." She drops down to one knee with fierce yet humble intent. "But if you could find a way to put this foolish outburst behind us, there is still a way for us all to cooperate. I will personally see to it that you don't have to share the same room with Adoel anymore, as long as we're here in Salec for our investigation. I beg you to reopen the dialogue, for the good of Ravnica, and for the good of Salec."
She looks towards Ghot. "Can you please wait outside of the building with Adoel?"

Adoel rolls her eyes as she and Ghot leaves the building. Ghot asks for clarity regarding a number of the idioms used by the angel, which are explained in further humiliating and detailed explanation. The Regent is clearly still highly offended, but seems willing to give Helga an opportunity to remedy this situation . . . though you are confident she isn't going to give you another chance. The Regent settles a bit.
"Such a vile woman. I pray for your sake that you are far more reasonable than that cretin . . . what was your name again? Helga?"

Helga stands from her kneeled position. She bows her head from the neck: "Your wisdom is inspirational."
As she raises her head, she looks to the direction of the door. It closes after Adoel and Ghot leave the room and Helga sighs from relief.
"My name is Helga indeed. I'm an investigator from the Orzhov clan. Please forgive my ignorance, due to the time constraints of our mission, I hadn't researched your name before coming here. Otherwise I would have addressed you properly." She says to test the waters, depending on how the Regent reactions to this, will influence her approach in this conversation.

The treant moved closer to those that were gathered around, the glowing orbs of life energy that would be his eyes seemed to move over each in turn. Finding the most severely injured, he broke a twig from his own shoulder and made a motion of eating as he handed it to the individual.
"Eat... strong. Then talk. We help."
There was a deep groaning rumble emitted from the chest of the elemental. It bent down and seemed to root itself into the sun-baked soil. The ground trembled and cracked, seeming to come alive as a massive tortoise erupted from the earth. Shaking the dust off of it's head, it looked to Romil, waiting.
Romil pointed toward the smaller craters. Without a word between them, the shelled reptile plodded toward each of them in turn. Stepping into the holes caused them to heave and roll until once again filled and level.

The Regent seems to have settled a bit from the previous outburst, but still appears to be alert
"The kind words are respectable child, but they are wasted on me. I care not for flattery. It is merely a more lucrative attempt of dominance. Should you be here for a particular purpose, simply state it, without the use of flowery language, and I will assist to the best of my abilities . . . or my patience."
Torterra is able to fill the smaller craters with ease. The townfolk are deeply moved by Romil's kindness, and some of the children have even gathered enough energy and joy back to cheer and climb the grassy turtle, respecting its strength the entire time of course. One particular villager approaches Romil, one eye covered by a bandage, barely standing with the support of a large wooden staff.
"You are too kind traveler. It's not common for a complete stranger to show up and assist this pitiful bunch. I am Daxas. I sell bread and meat nearby, but besides that, I'm not a very significant person. I believe your companion was asking us about the fight that occurred here. Please forgive these villagers. It is not that they don't want to speak, it's just . . . it was all so confusing. First a giant dragon appeared, threatening the sky itself, then it began spasming and flailing as if it was fighting against some wicked foe, yet there was nothing around it, and it started spewing out powerful blasts, destroying most of our buildings. I have no idea what was causing it's frenzy, but I know it was shouting "Usiel", and was cursing who or whatever "Usiel" was, but I couldn't tell you what it was arguing with. Then the dragon suddenly burst into the sky, and disappeared. Many took to the streets to help the injured but . . . I was too stricken with fear to leave the safety of my basement. I recall hearing a devestating explosion from the distance, and when I came out, that massive crater appeared, but more curious, no one seemed to remember the dragon other than me and the few other less courageous citizens who hid whilst the dragon was flailing. Most of Salec denies the incident ever happened, despite having witnessed it with their own eyes, so I'm afraid many might not be able to assist you"
