"Houndoom, huh? Let's douse some fires - shake the earth, Anguihorn!" The Rhydon snorts threateningly, the sound echoing from the tunnel walls as he stares down the Houndoom. Nori glances back up the tunnel the Houndoom came from, wondering just what sent a pack of hellhounds running.

The intimidating display the two Rock-types put on doesn't seem to frighten the Houndoom off, so Nori chops the air with his hand. "Aaaand... now!"As one of the Houndoom lunges in to bite him, Anguihorn meets it with a bone-rattling punch. They're outnumbered, so being fast and ruthless seems to be the best way to fix the situation. The Houndoom's jaws close on Anguihorn's armor, but it doesn't last much longer than that. Then Anguihorn turns and slams his tail into the ground, sending a shockwave at the back of another hound in a cloud of dirt and debris. Nori's eyes widen, then he grins triumphantly. "Hah! Down, boy! Two of the Houndoom are taken down fairly quickly by Anguihorn. The third one is greatly weakened. And then, her ego soaring, Melissa throws a ball... and it soars... and soars... and keeps soaring way back into the distance. Ooops. The remaining Houndoom roars angrily, hoping to get the rock types to back off so it can run past. User declares Roar! (Melissa and Vitruvius can go again before roar's effect takes place)

"Yes! Today Houndoom, tomorrow the world!" Once she's done striking the mandatory victory pose, Melissa glances down the tunnel. "What do you suppose they were running from?"

(Nori is free to answer, but I'm going to just post so we don't stall too long, we got a lot to cover ) After the Houndoom are deftfully taken care of, the three of them continue on, and end up finding what looks like an underground stream. Probably something that would lead to a deeper lake inside Mt Moon. It's not hugely active, probably formed from dripping water from above. But something seems wrong, and Alexa peers close. "Ummm, those guys don't look so good... what the heck is that purple stuff?"Both Nori and Melissa look close, and they see there's some sort of purple 'guck' for lack of a better term, settled in the bottom. There's also a couple of Staryu on the side of the stream, half in the water, looking exhausted and this purple stuff seems to have affected them... badly.

"... Grimer in the water, perhaps?" Melissa guesses. She takes a step forward and holds out a Pokeball. "Staryu! Join me, and I will lead you to cleaner water and GLORY!"

"I dunno, there's probably a lot of Rock- and Ground-types in these tunnels that could give 'em a fight, but they didn't look beaten up. Well, not until we got through with 'em," Nori adds a little smugly. He gives Anguihorn a pat on the snout, then recalls him and turns to follow Melissa deeper down into the tunnel.
He frowns into the water when Alexa points out the problem, but shakes his head at Melissa's hypothesis. "Nah, I wouldn't think so? Staryu are like this far from being Psychic-types; I wouldn't think a Grimer would give them that much trouble." He debates the merits of poking at it, but using a finger for that would probably be unwise.
"Maybe if we could get a closer look at that goo... you got any sample jars or something like that, Doc? I mean, worst case, it is a Grimer, and we tick it off and have to kick its amorphous butt."
He glances along the stream, trying to see where the purple stuff begins and ends. He isn't that interested in catching a Staryu, himself, but he could certainly give one of the poor things a lift until they're upstream of the goop and have some clean water around.

The staryu are in fact - unconscious, and the stuff on them seems to be 'pulsing' and almost looks like an infection. But, on the other hand, they won't put up much of a fight if caught!

"Hmph." If there's one thing Melissa hates, it's being ignored. On the other hand, easy capture? She'll take what she can get. She drops the Pokeball on one of the afflicted Staryu and removes another from her pack, crouching down to examine the purple substance more closely. Medicine Ed: shClweNo5d6 5d6

Melissa catches one pretty handily (Level 20 + Uw|cU_6M1d10, nature, abilities of your choice), although she knows deep down it's going to take some serious work to heal it up. Regardless, she peers at the substance settled in the water, and tries to figure out what it is... and can't. She notes that the coloration is very similar to something like Grimer, but then again grimer is the color of most poisonous attacks like Toxic and the like. So, who knows really. But it is 'off' somehow, and there are streaks of what look like pink in it. Despite looking for a while, she can't really figure it out.
However... she gets one thing. A weird sense of deja vu. She can't place it that feeling, and her memory isn't helping her here. And that's concerning in of itself...1d10

"Hmm. Hmmm. I feel like I ought to recognize this, but I can't quite place it... if my memory has been tempered with I'm going to be very annoyed with someone." Melissa pops the other Staryu into a second ball, then draws a sampling rod and gloves from her pack to collect some of the contaminated water. Carefully, without touching it - she's no stranger when it comes to working with hazardous materials - and into a lead-lined storage flask it goes.

Melissa narrows her eyes at the stream. So something thinks they can pull one over Dr. Macavity, hmm? We'll see about that. Her right arm hums and crackles for a few moments, sparks dancing across the synthetic skin, and then she points and discharges a few thousand volts into the water.

Melissa zaps the water and OH BOI does she get a reaction. The gunk rears, as if hurt, and then begins to expand to an absurd point before popping in the water, spreading purple clouds that start to flow downstream.
... that's weird!

Nori hasn't had much to do but watch while Melissa collects the Staryu and takes a sample. He does startle when Melissa zaps the water and the gunk starts to swell up.
"What in the...?" He reaches for a Pokéball, but all the gunk does is pop in the water. Nori watches the clouds drift downstream. "... Y'know, that's probably not a good sign. That thing looked alive. We should probably see where it's going."
And he sets off along the stream, trying to keep pace with the flow of purple.
