The Maractus makes a dramatic flourish as it takes the attacks... but is still unable to keep fighting. It collapses, and Maisy recalls her Pokémon. Bea's Ledian does a little flying dance, though wincing from the poison, while her Cutiefly elects to just... stand on a flower and eat something. "Preparation is important, yes," Maisy says, walking over towards Bea, "but you cannot ensure that you always have what you need. Sometimes what you have is not enough, and you will have to improvise. Adapt. Sometimes things will happen that are unexpected. Make sure that you can go with the flow, rather than being swept away." She grins. "But, regardless, you still pulled off a resounding victory here. Congratulations. You've earned the Flower Badge." She hands over a seven-petaled flower, each extension a different colour of the rainbow. "It will help one of your Pokémon draw power from the sun. When you leave, the attendant at the front will also give you a small reward, plus two copies of the TM that I use most - Round. You managed to stop me from pulling it off, but it becomes more Powerful the more Pokémon use it at once. It requires some coordination to pull it off, though. I wish you luck on the rest of your journey. You've had a strong start, but there's much more to go."You earned the Flower Badge! It grants Solar Power to one of your Pokémon. You also earned 1000 pyen. You also gained 2 copies of TM 48 Round. You also gained a Milestone! You also gained 200 EXP for your Pokémon.

I'm not going to say it was damage, but it was damage.

"I know a lot of today can be chocked up to type advantage, and that particular facet of battling will never be garunteed. Thank you for taking the time to battle with, and instruct me." A wily trick here or there had saved her friends from more injury then was necessarily. She returned Tempu, so that the poison didn't wreak further havoc on his body, and let Bylii have a moment to eat and rest before beckoning her along too. The money was welcome, as were the goods, she would have to experiment with them a little going forward.
How much even was an egg warmer? Well, this was the biggest town she had ever been in. Time to follow what leads she could. After dropping her partners off at the Pokemon center for some aftercare, she went shopping for an egg warmer.

Looking around in the shops (of which there are plenty), it seems as if the cheapest that she can get an Egg Warmer for is 2500. Not particularly cheap, especially for only one egg. Doubly so because who knows if it would actually work on something that has a distressing habit of not being there.
It does give her plenty of time to experience the massiveness of a big city firsthand, though. People wandering every which way, buildings towering above, and just the smell of things. It's as prevalent as the smell of ash in Fallarbor, but certainly different. And even after a half-hour of wandering, and checking shops to make sure that she wasn't getting price gouged, she's still barely even seen a fraction of the city. One could easily spend hours just walking down all the streets, seeing the offices and shops, looking at parks, mingling with people. It's all, to sum up, very big.

It seemed like quite the investment, for not a lot of egg currently. Maybe she would try body heat tonight and see if that made any difference. Petalburg was large, and having already walked a fair distance that morning, not to mention gotten her fill of camping, Beatrice was content to wander the city until nightfall, taking in the sights and slaking her curiosity on what she could. She would set out bright and early the next morning after a pleasant evening of low-key celebration for progress.

There are more Trainers in Petalburg than in the Oldale Center - precluding more study on the egg, or experiments with body heat - but far less bears than out in the wild. So, all in all, a desirable trade. She did find out on her wanderings around the city that there is apparently a rest house next to the beach just before Petalburg Woods, so she shouldn't have to sleep under the dense trees overnight at least. With that reassuring fact in mind, she heads out of the city once more. End Episode 1
