The poor little crab-bug was on its last legs anyway, so that serves as the end of it. (Sturdy w/ Odd # for HP equals ~3 "lives")

Not wanting to get too close to her parents' home, Mayu turns east onto Route 25 next. She actually has been out this way before, on a rare family trip to the seaside, but it's been a long time and small children rarely pay attention to the road. It might as well be new to her.

Traveling along the well-worn path of Route 25 towards Cerulean Cape (and the supposed location of eccentric Pokemon Researcher Bill's vacation home), Mayu is accosted by what looks an awful lot like that Bug Catcher's Shelmet. Except it's flying now. And has lances? What? It seems to be issuing a challenge to her though, so Mayu understands that much at least. Even if not much else makes sense at first glance.

The exploding bubbles definitely connect, but most are popped on Escavalier's armored shell. (Shell Armor Ability - Crit immunity) It hefts its lances and rushes the gun-shaped fish.

This time the ball does what you want and captures the Pokemon. On cue, your Pokedex offers to bring up Escavalier's dex entry. Surprise of surprises, it is not the evolution of Shelmet. Instead, it is the evolution of Karrablast, it's...rival? Something like that. Apparently Karrablast steals Shelmet shells, causing both to evolve. Neat.
Escavalier is level 20, male, Careful, with Shell Armor and Overcoat.
Mayu earns 20 Poke XP.

How odd. Mayu keeps going for a few minutes longer, but eventually turns around, to make sure she'll be back in Cerulean before dark.
