Well, that's the end of it. Three Spinda used, three Spinda defeated. Eric collects Thoth the Spinda (the most recent), hands over Mayu's prize money and bids her farewell.
Mayu earns 1 Misc XP, 45 Poke XP, and 600 PYen.

Mayu's very first attempt is successful, despite her overall lack of charm. A Trainer will give her a Chespin for either of her offered Pokemon.
Chespin will be the same level as the traded Pokemon, Male, Jolly, with Bodyguard.

The newly-christened Mu does well enough... but it's Alpha who steals the show, evolving at the conclusion of the first battle. Mayu is aware, of course, that Lucario is a fearsome fighter. That's why her parents procured a Riolu to be her starter in the first place. But she's used to her companion being, well, just Alpha - loyal, determined, and clever, but not the sort of Pokemon who can clear out an enemy team on his own. Now... well. Time to take another shot at Cerulean's badge.

Mayu heads back to the Cerulean Gym to try for the badge once again. As per the norm, she is politely greeted by Gym Leader Aleisandra, there is perhaps a bit of small talk, and then the battle begins. Alei starts as she always does, with Wartortle and Corsola.

Mayu starts off with her usual pair as well. The new and improved Alpha appears haggard and bruised, as if they hadn't bothered to visit the Pokemon Center after the last fight... but it doesn't seem to slow him down. The opposite, if anything. He slams into Corsola with terrifying force.

Corsola is sent flying into the pool wall, and only psychic barriers in place specifically to keep Pokemon attacks from harming spectators keeps it from blasting right on through. Both Wartortle and Aleisandra seem quite shocked. This kind of force isn't often seen outside of higher-badge battles. Aleisandra and her Pokemon quickly steel their gazes as she recalls her poor coral Pokemon and replaces it with Starmie. Starmie spins in place as it blasts Alpha back with psychic force.

Lambda is hit hard and frozen; Alpha, on the other hand, ducks nimbly out of the way. Mayu focuses on the Starmie - not hurling cold at it, as she's done in the past, but drawing the heat out and causing the Pokemon's watery essence to freeze inside its body. Alpha decides to copy the technique.

Starmie eats its Sitrus Berry and Recovers. It's hard to tell without it having a face, but it seems mildly annoyed at that.
Alei and Wartortle turn their attention to bringing down Alpha. It's obviously much more powerful in its final form, so best to deal with it now and worry about what else Mayu uses later.

Alpha eats a Sitrus Berry of his own; Mayu's seen this trick enough to realize its value. Then he goes for Alei, the vortex hardly seeming to bother him at all. Mayu, on the other hand, conjures ghost-wind to throw at the Starmie.

Wartortle shoves Alei out of the way of Alpha's absurdly lucky strikes, its shell absorbing much of the impact. It eats its Sitrus Berry and uses Rain Dish to help restore some of that lost health.

The attack is dead on... but Alpha seems to all but ignore it, staring Alei dead in the eyes as he does. Showoff. Then he launches a snap kick at Wartortle, determined to take it out so it can't do that again. Mayu makes another attempt to leech the life and heat out of Starmie, and her Pokemon followws suit.

Mayu turns her attention to Aleisandra, directing a focused beam of cold at her. Not unlike the one her Pokemon are so fond of using, in fact. Alpha turns his back on Wartortle to swim towards the larger newcomer, hitting her with his signature punishing kick.
Meanwhile, Lambda finally thaws enough to start moving again.
