Sandshrew easily withstands a second barrage of bubbles, but that psybeam threw it for a loop. The poor thing can't continue the fight as it is knocked unconscious. Leader Nekura recalls it and Juri (as referee) declares it Mayu's victory.
"Congratulations, Shiba-san. You have earned your Desert Badge." Nekura says as she turns over said badge to her.
Mayu earns 162 Poke XP, 2 Misc XP, 1 Milestone (Badge), 1875 PYen, and TM 38 - Sandstorm.

Victory is an interesting feeling. Not the visceral rush other people have described, but not the hollow feeling of relief she felt whenever she passed one of her father's tests. It's a quiet sort of satisfaction. She did this, she and her Pokemon, with nobody else to give her direction or drive her onward.

Mayu elects to begin with Kappa; not especially effective against either of Faith's Pokemon, that she knows of, but not at any particular disadvantage either. She doesn't know what else Faith has in store, after all. She directs the Horsea to focus on Sigilyph, and follows up with her typical ice.

While she'd been weathering Faith's attacks well enough, the psychic blast from Sigilyph is too much. Mayu withdraws herself from the fight and sends out Beta to take her place; he immediately latches onto the strange-looking bird with his teeth. Kappa flops closer to try to join in. Mayu uses Brutal Orders on Beta.
