His grin turns fierce and his eyes almost seem to flash with an otherworldly light. "Let's get started then." Morty still opens up with Mismagius, just like before. It's understandable. Mismagius is a real pain in battle, and serves as an excellent bench test for Trainers to warm up with.

The attack hits pretty hard, and Victoria winces. She wants to retaliate, but she knows it's better to set up. Helping against four attacks in the future is better than the two attacks now. Ash sets up more barriers!

Mismagius channels ghostly energy from the tiny wisps that Victoria is only just now noticing and lays a nasty Curse on Ash. It then cackles again as it disappears.

One of the barriers shatters into the a thousand pieces as Ash is ROCKED by the attack. But the barrier helped mute it a lot, and now Ash gets his chance to fight back! Frenzy Plant

Pain Split takes half the current HP of both Pokemon, adds it together, then divides the result evenly between the two combatants.
Both Mismagius and Verg regain 36 HP after Pain Split resolves.

Naturally, the first thing Morty is expected to do is capitalize on the Curse he set up a bit ago. Instead, he has Marowak toss the bonemerang!
